I have seen these boots every time I walked into Little Burgundy or browsed online, but I have never tried them on. They definitely caught my eye because of the contrasting chunky wooden heel. And then out of curiosity, I tried them on the other day and oh my goodness they are so comfortable. The height is just perfect for casual, every day wear. And as surprising as it is, I don't have a pair of black ankle booties.

I gotta wait for my next few paycheques, I made a deal with my self to not spend past a certain amount. Until then, I'll just be thinking about these babies all day and deciding which color to get.

New Year's Eve was super fun! I spent it at Barcelona nightclub down on Granville Street. Although I enjoyed my night, It was probably the first and last time I'll be clubbing for NYE. The reason is because I purchased my ticket for $50 including service fee. And the result was just a regular club night. Sure, we had free champagne and appetizers... But they food and drink weren't great at all. The performance that was featured wasn't that exciting either. I think I'd much rather go to a pub or hit up a house party instead.

Started 2013 with a regret! Didn't take more pictures with other friends and with my whole outfit. Whatta waste :( Ah well, I'm excited for the new year, 2012 was fun but it didn't end very well. Hopefully 2013 will be a fresh new start.

I went out two nights ago with some friends to a club called Ginger 62 here in Vancouver and I had a great time! I have heard mixed reviews on Ginger 62, but I would give it a 4/5 star rating. What I liked about this venue was the decor and the music. The music was house and it kept the energy going; perfect for dancing all night long. They also serve aloe vera vodkas which is something I tried for the first time that night and fell in love with. It tastes amazing! The only downside is that the crowd is a tad older. Which really isn't a downside I guess and wouldn't be a problem with a couple years to come. I would definitely check out Ginger 62, it's a lot different than the popular and typical Venue and Caprice night clubs.

Speaking of night clubs, It's almost mid-December and Christmas and New Year's Eve are quickly approaching. If you're in the Vancouver area, any suggestions on where to spend New Year's Eve?!

Baked some cinnamon-glazed pumpkin spice chocolate chip (phew what a mouthful) muffins over the weekend! Delish. Here's the recipe:

4 eggs
1 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
3 cups pumpkin purée (canned is fine)
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 lb. (16 Tbs.) unsalted butter, melted
1-1/4 lb. (4-1/2 cups) all-purpose flour
2 Tbs. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3 Tbs. ground cinnamon
3 Tbs. ground ginger
Pinch cloves
Pinch white pepper
1-1/2 cups golden raisins

Heat the oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, sour cream, pumpkin purée, brown sugar, sugar, and butter. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and pepper. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet, stirring until just mixed. Gently fold in the raisins. Grease and flour a muffin tin (or line it with muffin papers, preferably foil). Scoop about 1/2 cup batter into each tin so that the curve of the batter is even with the rim of the cup. (Refrigerate any extra batter in an airtight container for up to a week.) Bake the muffins in the middle of the oven until firm to the touch and a toothpick inserted into them comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes. Remove the muffins from the tin when they're cool enough to handle.

I actually modified the recipe as I went along. I added nutmeg, didn't put raisins and put chocolate chips instead and I used OIKOS vanilla Greek yogurt. These muffins turned out super moist, and the flavors were spicy and incredible. I also added a cinnamon glaze that I just whipped up together myself with butter, milk, cinnamon and confectioner's sugar.

Some more on-the-go quick snaps of what I wore this past week. It's quickly getting really cold in Vancouver and I really have to keep layering and bringing out the beanies, scarves and sweaters!

I watched the new James Bond movie, Skyfall, last night and it was awesome! Probably one of the better, new James Bond movies. The cast was fantastic as usual and the effects, plot and filming was just phenomenal. What I loved most though, was actually the opening credits/sequence that was played to "Skyfall" by Adele.

I can't find or upload the sequence, but this official music video is still great.

Semester 1 is quickly coming to and end I can't believe school is going to end soon. I still have 2, 2500-word papers left to do and a bunch of finals. Oddly enough, I choose this time to decide to eat clean and eat healthy and work out. I guess anytime is better than never. To every one in school out there, good luck on your finals!

Love. Beanies. I've been wearing these bad boys whenever my hair is down and outrageously messy or poofy. They are an instant quick fix for those hurried mornings and they make your hair look super cute without really doing much! I love the slouchy ones and the circle/beret ones and I have them in grey, black, red, cream and plum.

Alexander Wang "Rocco" purse

Reasons why this bag has been a favorite ever since I got it because it's so roomy and it fits everything, even A4 papers for school. Not to mention it's super stylish with the studded bottom. Another reason is even though it's leather, I don't have to be as careful with it as I am with my other leather bags because the material is so incredibly thick and durable. It makes for a great everyday bag.

Club Monaco Sunny Tee

I found the perfect basic t-shirts and Club Monaco recently and have stocked up on a few different styles. This classic pocket tee hits my body in all the right places and the material is super soft. It's perfect for layering in the fall time.

M.A.C. Vintage Vamp nail polish

I actually just rediscovered this nail polish in my collection of polishes when I was digging around. This polish was gifted to me a good year ago and I never used it until now. It's a very rich deep red and it's super on-trend for fall.

Maybelline Blissful Berry lipstick

I'm never the one to wear lipstick, if anything tinted chapstick or Revlon lip butters. However, this one was on sale for $5.49 CAD and it gives a really nice color to my lips which is great during the fall/winter seasons when one tends to look more pasty than usual.

Downton Abbey

Ermahgerd. New found love. Downton Abbey is an amazing show on PBS and Dame Maggie Smith is just the absolute best. Yes, that's Professor McGonagall for you Harry Potter fans out there. Everything about this show is great. I love the era (1920s) that it is set in and the story lines. Not to mention the phenomenal costume designs! I would kill for Mary Crawley's dresses. Definitely check this show out if drama and quality shows are your thing.

London Fog and Chai Tea Lattes

Mmmm. Very few things can top a warm, comforting drink on a brisk, chilly day. I love coffee, but i've been enjoying lattes a lot lately and these two delicious drinks keep me nice and toasty when I'm running about outside.

OIKOS Greek Yogurt

Delicious! Once I've had Greek yogurt, it's hard to go back to regular yogurt. The texture is very rich and it tastes so creamy, but it's incredibly healthy for you. I've been having it almost every morning with organic granola and a handful of berries and a dash of cinnamon.

Quick head-to-toe snap before I left for school this morning! Excuse the bare feet, I wore my HIBOU tan moccasins when I left the house :)

I went to my boyfriend's after school and got down to some serious jack-o-lantern carving! You can't see the outlines of the pumpkins, but it's the lit up cut out image the matters anyways. My boyfriend carved the left Darth Vader, and I did the auto-bot on the right! It was super fun and satisfying to see it lit up and put out on the porch. Carving pumpkins every year!

halloween update

This past weekend was insane. I have essays coming outta my ears. I didn't go out for Halloween which I regret because I really wanted to dress up this year! I just didn't have time because I went out for my good friend's birthday on Friday, had work and family dinner on Saturday which took up the whole day. And those two days were the days that every one went out since Halloween lies on a Wednesday this year. So for Sunday and Monday all I did was my tedious readings, essays and 2500 word discourse analysis. I miss the trick-o-treating days. I do get to relax a bit after school today though since most of my work is due today :) I'll be carving some jack-o-lanterns with my boyfriend! Should be fun times.

In the mean time, I ran across this quote recently and have been obsessed with it:

Recently whilst online browsing at some of my favorite online stores, I found some dresses that really intrigued me. They are the plain little black dresses with added cage detailing in the neck area and ones with mesh panel detailing. The mesh bodice on these dresses are sweet because you can show some skin without bearing all. The mesh panel of the American Apparel bodysuit is too wide for my liking but the idea and design I think is appealing. And because it is a bodysuit, you can pair it with high waisted shorts too and different colored bottoms.
As for the cage dresses, I think lattice looks so cool and geometrical. It's almost like an alternative to a statement necklace. The Nasty Gal dress is too expensive for my price range but the Sabo Skirt one is affordable. Too bad it's currently out of stock in my size. Hopefully they'll restock soon!

isabel marant: sneaker wedge trend

Are they sneakers? Are the wedges? Let's call them snedges. I've been seeing these interesting looking shoes all over the web and I can't say I understand why they are so coveted. The only thing I like about them is the color combinations they come in. But that doesn't even have anything to do with the actual physical design of the shoe. I think they are so clunky, chunky, odd and very unflattering. The main rave about them seems to be how "comfortable" they are. Hm... comfortable and bulky and ugly shoes... this is starts to sound familiar. UGGs seem to fall into the exact same category! It got me thinking, will these Isabel Marant snedges be the "new" UGGs? Although maybe not because they do have a much steeper price at around $650 a pair! Like UGGs, there are tons of knockoffs out there that are slowly leaking into regular commercial retail stores. I just don't understand the appeal. Above I found some photos of celebrities wearing these snedges.

Yes, after many recurrences in my "lust list" posts...I finally took the plunge and purchased a pair of JEFFREY CAMPBELL "Litas" in the classic black leather with the wooden heel. Those of you that have followed my posts for awhile, it should be known that I've been wanting a pair for the longest time. For awhile, I was set on getting the taupe suede ones because I thought the black was too edgy for my style. However, a fellow blogger pointed out that living in Vancouver, taupe suede would not fair well in the wet weather. I purchased the black pair today in a size 7. I find that they do run smaller (I'm usually a size 6.5). I haven't regretted my purchase at all! I wore them to The Head and The Heart concert tonight and loved how tall they made me look and how easy they were to walk in because of the chunky heel and hidden platform. Pairing these with black leggings give the illusion of longer legs too so that's always a bonus for someone my height, at 5'2. Loving my new purchase!

Just got back from the Head and the Heart concert at the Commodore Ballroom. It was amazing! It was kind of frustrating that they didn't come out until 11pm because of the the two previous opening acts. But it was still amazing! I loved the Commodore Ballroom venue. Kicked back with some beers and just listened to some chill music and enjoyed the great vibe. I couldn't get over how well the vocals harmonized during the live performance. Absolute bliss. Times like those, I wish I had the voice of an angel. (I like to believe that I do, with the expense of my mother's ears. Bless her soul.)

Today consisted of the usual fall Vancouver weather that one would expect: cold, grey, and foggy. Although we've had some fantastic sunny, brisk fall days these past two weeks, all great things come to and end and today was the day. Just look at the amount of fog up at SFU! The fog was so thick that I could see the air moving in front of me. It was as if we were in the clouds.
This morning I was digging around my closet and found this navy and dark red striped scarf and loved how fall-esque it was! I paired it with a striped top, but the trick to pairing like patterns is to make sure one is more dominant than the other. In this case, my thick striped scarf stands out against the thin striped top. I love layering!

I am infamous for spur-of-the-moment baking sessions and two days ago I made a delicious apple pie! I had so much pie filling leftover that I used it to quickly make an apple crumble. Another great recipe that I've been loving are Oreo truffles. Ermahgerd. They're so delicious and easy to whip up, plus they look so cute and pretty!

What else have I been up to? It's the dreaded midterm and paper season so I've been pretty occupied with school as usual. I haven't gone shopping in awhile! Two of my classes are going to be cancelled next week so I'm definitely going to take some of that time to do some fall shopping. A full-fledged TOPSHOP is coming to Vancouver finally! It opens October 18th and I cannot wait. I wasn't satisfied with the tiny "pop-up shop" in the Bay downtown and now knowing that this TOPSHOP is going to the second largest in the world...well let's just say I'm gonna be a happy girl for awhile :)

I'll be going to The Head and the Heart concert tomorrow and and I'm super stoked! They're an indie rock band from Seattle and they play soothing and comforting tunes. If you haven't heard of them, you should definitely check out my favorite song by them, " Down in the Valley"

I can't decide on black leather or taupe suede! I originally was certain that I wanted the suede ones because I thought the black was too badass and edgy that I wouldn't be able to pull it off. But I'm starting to really like the bright contrasting heel, at the same time I love the color of the taupe suede.

September flew right by and it's already October. We had a late summer than dragged into September but it's clear that the seasons are now beginning to transition to the chilly fall season here in Vancouver. The weather has been very sunny so I can still wear my sunnies, but it's very chilly in the shade, in the morning and at night. I came across this photo on Pinterest and the pairing of a chunky knit scarf with a chunky cardigan just looked sooo cozy. I dug around my closet and found similar items and paired it with some shorts and some booties for a transition, fall look. To keep myself extra warm, I wore a think quarter sleeve tee underneath the sweater. School as kept me so busy and there is so much that's coming up for October! Paper are due, midterms, so many birthdays, Thanksgiving, Halloween and also I'm PR interning for WE Day which i'm pretty excited about! Good bye summer, and helloooo fall!

The opening gala to kick off Vancouver Fashion Week was last night at the club Five Sixty (560). At 8pm, tons of Vancouver's elite poured through the doors and soon enough the DJ music was bumpin, cameras were flashing and glasses were clinking. The vibe and atmosphere was fantastic. I'm most excited about viewing Gretchen Jones' collection come down the runway on Sunday at 4pm. She was the winner of Project Runway Season 8. Hopefully I get a chance to talk to her and ask her a few questions about her experience! This week is going to be hell week, stay tuned for more photos!

Last night was Vancouver's first ever Fashion's Night Out! My girlfriend and I lined up for CBC studios featured fashion show, but unfortunately the venue reached max capacity and we couldn't make it inside. We still had fun down Robson, Alberni and Burrard Streets at the participating retailers. The above Tiffany & Co. disks are branded chocolates! The store also had a photo booth. And the cute cake pop was in a swag bag that the CBC studios handed out while we were in the line. It was so delicious. Many places served champagne such as Tiffany & Co, The Bay, and J. Crew. A lot of stores at a candy bar which was super fun and yummy. It wasn't as busy as I would liked it to be, but hopefully it will improve over the years. I can't wait for next years!

how to: vintage levi cutoffs

All summer, I had been searching for a pair of vintage Levi's and if you have gone on this search before, you know what I'm talking about when I say that it is so hard to find the perfect pair. Urban Outfitters sells them in their store for $50.00 and first of all, the sizes are enormous! Believe me, I've tried to make them fit and tried belting options, but they are just way too big. Second of all, they are SO distressed and worn, to the point where the back label is half ripped or completely ripped off. I'm so glad I didn't purchase them from there. I've also made trips to Value Village and Community Vintage, a vintage store in Gastown with denim pieces. Again, the sizes were just way too big.

My friend and I were shopping on Main Street when we decided to duck inside this small vintage store across from Front & Company. I remember we were contemplating whether or not to go inside. In the end we both agreed to just check it out, you never know. And in this vintage store, I found a very clean and fairy new pair of vintage original 501 Levi jeans! The tag said size 28 and I'm a size 25/26 so I wasn't very hopeful that they would fit, but they did! I guess the sizes back then were much smaller than they are now. I was sooo excited, I got these for $30.00.

When I brought them home, I washed them first then marked a straight line across the legs with plenty of fabric to spare. I did this so that I could try them on and roll up the fabric to easily picture what my shorts would look like. From there, I began to snip more fabric off. When I found the right length, I began distressing with scissors, seam ripper, a nail file, and tweezers using YouTube tutorials. I threw the shorts in the wash and out came the final result which I was more than happy with.

If you were to do this yourself, I would keep in mind that the shorts WILL fray, so do not cut too short! Also, since your butt is rounded, the fabric in the back should be slightly longer than the front to prevent the length from being too short also.

For those of you out there still searching for your perfect denim cutoffs, don't fret! They're out there somewhere :)

I've never been much of a jewellery/accessories collector or wearer, however this past month, when my friend gifted me the above spiked gold and silver bracelets, it sparked something inside of me. Since then, I have purchased a few pieces of jewellery and as you can see, I'm absolutely loving the geometric shapes.

I LOVE this shirt. It is one of the most flattering tops I own. something about where the first button begins and the stretchy sides and the cut of the shirt that really makes my waist look tiny and elongates my neck. This shirt is a classic piece in James Perse's collection and still retails at Holt Renfrew for full price in all different colors.

I've been looking for a pair of green cargo skinnies since FOREVER. I finally found the perfect pair!

Overall I must say I did very well on these two shopping trips. Probably the best I've done in the past! I think I should have purchased more fall/winter clothing from Portland, but I didn't see much that appealed to me. There was a very cute Free People pullover sweater at Macy's, but it was the last one in my size and it was damaged. Oh well, wasn't meant to be. I think I'm good with shopping right now. I have to save up for my trip to Tofino with my friend next summer!

The sunny weather today was a great way to start September and end the summer. I hope it stays warm for the first half of September at least because that way, I'll be more motivated to have a fresh start at school. There is so much going tis first week of September what with school, Vancouver Fashion Week and my part-time job. I'm super excited for what is coming up this fall/winter season though. I can't wait to start wearing boots and start layering! I love season transition, but I always miss my wardrobe from the previous season. I guess you can't have both! To the students out there, good luck in the new school year!

Vancouver Fashion Week has come up with a weekly fun and engaging contest for followers. During the week, using the hashtag, #VFWFashionFriday , twit pic your outfit of the day for your chance to win tickets to attend the September show! At the end of the week, we have guest judges to decide who's outfit will make the cut and deserves the win. In the past we've had Reiko from the Real Housewives of Vancouver and the editor of KENTON magazine to judge. So hurry and participate because the show is less than a month away!

Today was my mom's birthday, I treated her to brunch at Cafe Medina. It was my 3rd time eating here and each time I've tried something new. This time I tried the paella which was orzo with tons of chorizo, spices, a fried egg, avocado and lots of veggies. It was delicious! I love Cafe Medina, their food is just so unique and the flavors are amazing. My mom ordered the braised short ribs which was delicious as well. We shared a waffle with a raspberry sauce to accompany it. On the downside, the waffle didn't taste very fresh. It wasn't warm either. However the raspberry sauce was delicious and tasted very fresh! Overall it was a delicious meal.

Off to Portland tomorrow for the weekend! Going to do some tax-free shopping and I can't wait.

Only a month away until Fashion Week starts! It's crunch time now. Every one at the office is buzzing with excitement as well as stress. I'm super stoked that Fashion Week is coming together and I can't wait to watch the show. But until then, there still is a lot of work that needs to get done.

The weather in Vancouver has been blistering hot. And at my part-time job, I'm forced to wear black. It is way too hot. I just wanna prance around in a bathing suit all day. It's going to be a late summer, with the heat going well into early September. I can't believe summer is almost over. I gotta enjoy every last minute of it!
