The month of April celebrates Earth Day and there are lots of events happening in New York City and across the country, to highlight how it affects us and how we can become involved.

My client Candice Kumai was asked to sit on a panel with experts in food and shed some light on how our choices affect us and others. She did a great job sharing her knowledge and inspiring others. I learned so much from the event and it was great to be a part of the event itself.

I try to accompany clients to as many events as I can, which is not always possible, since I have so much going on each week. I like to not only be on hand in case any media related opportunities or questions arise from the press, but to also led some support to what they clients are doing. It is imperative that as a publicist, you are available to provide client support and guidance and ensure that their "brand" is positioned in the best light possible.

E's! Playing With Fire: Client Candice Kumai

Don't forget to tune in to E!'s Playing With Fire on Fridays at 8pm EST

So the new show Playing With Fire aired on E! a couple of weeks ago and features my client, Candice Kumai. The show follows the lives of 5 dynamic individuals in the food industry, making it in New York City.

It's been a whirl wind few weeks of promotion and press, and one of the many fun experiences include visiting NASDAQ, to watch Candice and the rest of the cast ring the opening bell! That was a once in the lifetime moment.

I was working backstage with my client, the talented hairstylist Nelson Vercher. He created gorgeous hair to compliment the collection. I will post my New York Fashion Week recap later this week.

Kettlebell Kickboxing & Megan Hilty Fitness Gala Recap!

After all the planning and hard work, the Kettlebell Kickboxing Fitness Gala, co-hosted by actress and SMASH star Megan Hilty finally took place.

The event turn out was amazing, excellent media and tons of enthusiastic attendees, all to raise money for the Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization founded by actress Mariska Hargitay. We raised a ton of money and everyone had fun!

I handled all media attendance and oversaw the red carpet arrivals and interviews. You can catch me in action here, where I appear around the 34 sec mark and you can see me working amidst the red carpet frenzy!

So I had the honor of speaking at the Black Public Relations Society (BPRS) Bootcamp event in NYC this past week. I was one of three PR professionals, who were able to share our experiences and offer advice on various topics.

I covered the topics; Strengthening your Brand and Becoming a PR Expert through Public Speaking. I was so inspiring listening to my peers and watching the enthusiasm of PR newbies.

Bob Mackie mentioned in the NY Times (Jan 2013)

The New York Times included my client Bob Mackie in a story about red carpet Oscar fashion. Bob Mackie has worked with many famous icons, from Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, to Madonna and of course, Cher! In 1991 he dressed Madonna and she wore 20 million dollars worth of Harry Winston jewels to accompany his design. He created the infamous Queen Elizabeth dress for the 1999 Oscars, when he dressed the host Whoopi Goldberg.

Bob himself has received 3 Oscar nominations for his costume designs. Check out some of his work below:

So I have been working away on this new project, securing pre- and post-event press for the Fitness Gala, hosted by actress Megan Hilty and Kettlebell Kickboxing this Saturday Feb 2nd.

This morning the event co-host, celebrity trainer and creator of Kettlebell Kickboxing Dasha Libin, made an appearance on WLNY's "The Couch". She demo'ed some exercise moves with the Kettlebell, which attendees will be doing on Saturday. Check out the footage from the TV segment here.

I'm feeling exhausted in that the call time was 6:30am, so I have been up since 5am! As a publicist, you need to be on site to ensure that your client is prepped for any TV appearances and to make sure that all runs smoothly.

Fitness Gala with Megan Hilty & Kettlebell Kickboxing

I have been hired to work on a charity event in NYC, hosted by the star of NBC's hit TV show SMASH, Megan Hilty and celebrity trainer and creator of Kettlebell Kickboxing, Dasha Libin.

What makes this event different is that it is a "fitness gala" so all the guestsshow up red carpet ready - in fitness gear (as opposed to cocktail attire) and train alongside their favorite celebrities. All proceeds from the sale of tickets go directly to the Joyful Heart Foundation, founded by actress and activist Marishka Hargitay.

As the person heading up PR, I manage the media and VIP guest lists, coordinate the red carpet, make sure that the media show up to cover the event and interview the VIP guests. It is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun!

The event is taking place on Saturday February 2nd, 2013 and you can purchase tickets here.

2012 - in Review and What's Next for 2013!

Whoa, what a year 2012 was! I can't believe it flew by so quickly! I can't believe how many amazing experiences I had and how many incredible people I met last year.

I had the opportunity to go on an amazing European work trip with my client Candice Kumai which was indescribable!

Together we visited Portugal, France, Italy and Spain and had the best time, while similtaneously promoting her awesome new book Cook Yourself Sexy! We even sailed back via the Carribean airstream and managed to catch some rays while working. Talk about perks of the job!

Working even on vacation!

I have some great news, which I can now officially share. On Monday E! announced the newest show called "Playing With Fire". The show follows the lives of five movers and shakers in the NYC food industry and the beautiful and talented Candice Kumai is one of them.

Since I am her publicist, but most importantly, one of her closest friends in New York City, I agreed to be a part of the show and will appear as a supporting cast member in some of the episodes. We have been filming since September and I have been keeping my lips sealed - until now! I am so happy I can finally talk about it. I myself, cannot wait to see the show when it airs in April 2013!

This weekend I worked at an event called Closet Swap, sponsored by my client Domaine Carneros. A group of fashionable ladies gathered their clothes and accessories and traded them with other guests. A fun way to de-cluttter and update your wardrobe!

Time Inc Event: 10 NYC Start-Ups To Watch in 2012

Last night I attended an event hosted by Time Inc to celebrate the 10 NYC Start-Ups To Watch in 2012. My client, Truth Art Beauty were one of the 10 companies honored and the event took place during Internet Week New York, which is actually going on right now.

Held at The Dream Hotel downtown, the view from the penthouse was amazing, such a great venue choice. Guests sipped custom cocktails and we got to meet the other 9 honorees. It was great being in a room with such dynamic, creative people who were all being recognized for being innovators in the tech world.

It was a fun night, and I was happy to see my client get the recognition they deserve, because they truly have great products and a unique online platform which gives you the chance to create your own, custom, bespoke skincare products.

Check out some pics from the last nights event. The legendary Quincy Jones stopped by and I even bumped in to Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes on 9th avenue while I was trying to hail a cab (only in New York!). All in all, a great evening and I am SO proud of Caron and Emily, they deserve all their success!

Flirty Thirty Party at Beauty + Essex NYC

This weekend I attended Flirty Thirty, an event hosted by Chef Candice Kumai at Beauty + Essex. One of the hottest restaurants/lounges in New York, the party was held in the beautiful Pearl Room and guests enjoyed cocktails by Croft Pink and food was prepared by the super talented Chris Santos - partner and Chef at Beauty + Essex and star of Chopped The Food Network.

The crowd included publishers, producers, agents, editors and of course, publicists! We all had a great night the staff were so amazing. The woman of the hour - Candice Kumai, wore a beautiful design by my client Gemma Kahng and she looked stunning!

Client Media Coverage: Jada Michaels Better TV Segment Shoot

I visited the Better TV studios in midtown Manhattan to film a segment with my client, designer and lingerie expert Jada Michaels. I secured her a segment on bridal lingerie solutions, talking about the best lingerie to wear under three difficult dress styles; backless, one-shouldered and the sweetheart neckline.

Jada, the three models and myself waited in the green room prior to filming. What a surprise it was when The Biggest Loser's trainer Bob Harper and Tia Mowry - from the show Tia and Tamera walked in! They were both filming their own segments for the show.
