Just had an incredibly long, fun, crazy, inspiring awesome day shooting a crazy antler-esque styled shoot with The Soft Voice Collective

Last night I dreamt of home. Of my family and the land, and the feeling of the wind in your face and the soft swimming of grass as you walk. The smell of garlic and onion as you walk into the kitchen, being reminded to come in home from the evening by a toot of the car horn, the smell and warmth reeling you in as you race to remove muddy boots at the door.

I can't shake the ache I now have in my heart, I miss home. I miss the years of childhood where they were far less cares in my world. I had my mum and dad and siblings within arms reach, could talk and laugh with them everyday.

I dreamt of my beautiful dogs, we ran and played in the mud and chased bunnies down a hole. I walked to the horse paddocks and was met by three soft muzzles of my horses of past. I held their heads in my arms, their forelocks entwining in my ponytail. Leaping up on to a strong black back, we raced the wind beneath the mountain, while storm clouds raced overhead, the air was electric, we moved as one.

It was such a beautiful dream but it has left me heartbroken today. It's like a sinking, a caving in of my chest for the days when these dream images were the norm. The freedom of youth and the blessing of family and growing up on a farm. My beautiful horses and dogs who are now but warm memories I keep close to my heart and see only now in my dreams.

Editorial winner of ACMP emerging photographer of the year Projections 2010...

Trampoline invites emerging students, assistants, photographers and photo artists to submit a series of images for ACMP Projections 2010 in association with Sony, an annual photographic competition that showcases the work of emerging photographic talent.

Now in it’s seventh year, ACMP Projections 2010 in association with Sony provides an excellent opportunity for students, assistants and emerging photographers and photo artists alike to gain exposure, raise their profile within the creative community and be recognised as the future of the photographic industry.

Still in a whirl after being awarded the Editorial win:

Held in the beautiful Astor Theatre in St Kilda (and then again at the Chevaul in Paddington) we were fed sushi and beer and then watched the gorgeous screening put together by the talented, dedicated and completely lovely Trampoline team: Carla Orsatti, Anna Warr, Lisa Cross, Craig Proudford, Gary Compton, Fiona Wolf, Joseph Feil, Ernie Gal, Nick Duell, Rodney Dekker, Simon Mossman, Michael Wearne, Janette Mitchell and Michael Kai.

It was so lovely to meet so many wonderful people at both the Melbourne and Sydney events, and see all the work up on the big screen.

Words cannot express the surge of excitement I felt from the first caress of this camera. Lucky I had my glorious friend Viktoria with me when I purchased it. I am positive there is not another person on the planet who would be so excited about exchanging money for such a seemingly insignificant little black treasure. She didn't even laugh when I told her I make it up a little bed each night next to mine

The last few weeks...

Life has been manic over the last few weeks. All of a sudden I wake up and the shops are selling Santa treats and bon bons. It's scary how quickly time flies, I have lost count of how old I am as it seems the next birthday always is just around the corner. Being busy is great, but sometimes you have to stop and let your body rest, your mind rest and make sure your not missing out on the important things in life like watching clouds and laughing till it hurts with friends and family.

Although the last few months have been ridiculously busy, I did get to go home to the farm for a rest and a much needed run in the hills. I drank too many beers with my dad, had plenty of mum hugs, had long chats with my grandma and warmed my brother's new house. It was wonderful.

The amount of km's I have travelled lately I don't even want to know. Being away from home is excting as it is lonely. Hotel beds are soft, but they are missing essential ingredients like a kitten on your feet and a pair of all embracing arms to fall into and melt the day away.

There has been fashion shoots in Darwin (think 3+ showers a day, dying hardrives, fun with Ash and Jamie, lovely models, stylist extrodinaire Jo Moo, breakfast beers, Bunnings adventures, client Dan-the-rain-maker-man, beautiful Australian landscape and lots of laughter and exhaustion.

There was fashion in Wollongong ( think standing on a cliff at sunrise - gail force winds and model teetering on edge with 6inch stilletos, catching walkers unawares in the Botanical gardens with semi-naked model)

Newcastle Editorial shoot for up and coming designer Alex Robinson of Arrabelladidit (Think gorgeous model Peta Serras , stunning make up by the talented Tanya at Chic Artistry, thanks to Talbert for lending us his muscles and Diddy for popping his modelling virginity with us)

Food and Lifestyle Shoot for Stephanie Alexander and GPT at B2 studios Sydney (Think reserved parking space next to the incredible Kane Skennar and Jez Smith (let me know if you ever need an assistant guys), heated/massaging/bide toilets, great crew and catering that was coming out our ears )

Royal Apartments Penthouse photography (think fun with Mel, ocean views and Coco Republic)

And these are just the adventures I can think of right now, there are many more stories and many more pictures. Life is good.

I am down the south coast for work, and was lucky enough to catch up with an old friend who I havnt seen for about 4-5 years. It's amazing how revitalizing it is to be in the presence once again of someone you hold in high regard. Despite the constant shock that hits your brain reminding you how many years have passed and what has happened in this time. And even more amazing that despite barely having boo of one another in all that time, that when you see them again it's as if you've never been apart. The words just flow and you are reminded of what drew you to them in the first place. It's times like this that remind me how important true friends are, hard to find and impossible to forget.

Last night I dreamed wildly, in vivid colour and of particularly chaotic and strange subject matter. I woke up feeling drained, like I hadn't slept at all. There was a strange peace though. I dreamed of the place I was born, of people from my childhood whose faces or voices I have not seen or heard for a very long time. One face was that of the first boy I ever loved, almost a decade ago. We fell in love as teenagers, on horseback galloping through pine forests, watching cowboys and Indian films late into the night. It was that intense all consuming love that you have when you have never been hurt before. The love you love when your not afraid to give away your all. The sort of first love that ends in tears and misery and broken hearts, when youth and inexperience fail to help you through tough decisions, or be able to recognise and navigate through to safe waters. We have both moved on many many years ago, and speaking for myself am very happy and very much in love. Not before the learning of many more lessons and tears from the heart. My partner asked what did I think this dream meant, so I sat down began to write this. This dream was like making peace with my youth, with the memory of a memory. For in the dream the boy brought a beautiful woman to meet me, she was pregnant and they were getting married. We talked whilst it rained outside, and when they left I hugged them both goodbye. I will always love him, not only for the beautiful experience of youth we shared, but for the way the glory days and hard lessons of youth and innocence cannot be ignored or forgotten, for it is where your journey to find yourself and place in the world began. It shapes who you are, and how you maneuver your future adventures of the heart. Affairs of this kind are always particularly taxing, and the wounds take a long time to heal, but none the less they make us stronger. Although we no longer speak, it was as if the dream came to give the message that will not be spoken. Don't worry for me, for I am happy.

Recent shoot adventures

So for anyone who doesn't know, I have been madly working on a tourism campaign which has been going for a number of months now and I am just downloading down the cards from the last shot now! It has been a mammoth job and basically has seen me shooting the beautiful East coast of Australia from Central Coast right up to the border in Queensland. Paul and myself piled into a van and took to the road to see and experience this epic roadtrip. It was a load of fun, we saw some amazing things and met some fantastic people.

The amazing woman in the first image is a foster mum for Koalas...she was so kind and lovely and so spritely, being in her 90s has not slowed her up one bit. This little baby is her 97th foster koala. It brought tears to my eyes seeing the devotion and love she has for these animals, a truly inspirational human being.

ABOUT US

Born in a Bondi living room in 1999 when a group of friends took turns showing their latest work, Reportage has grown to become Australia’s leading showcase of international documentary photography.

Reportage is one of the few forums in which photographers can exhibit images in an extended ‘photo essay’ format offering greater insight and depth of subject.

It is an opportunity to view images previously unseen. Reportage aims to share, inform and inspire the community with extraordinary visual narratives taken by Australian and international photographers.

Reportage provides an opportunity to keep the camaraderie of the photography community alive and is a forum for ideas to be expressed and exchanged. Open to professional photographers and students of photography.
