Lil' Wayne to Write Prison Memoir

Rappers are tagged as poetic with lyrics that zing, zang and rhyme. The assertion is left to your own personal opinion. Hip-Hop Artist Lil' Wayne is set to release a Memoir based on his time at the New York prison Rikers' Island.

The rapper spent 8 months in 2010 serving jail time where he wrote diary entries documenting the time behind bars. The book to be titled, Gone Till November, will be accompanied by a November 28 release date.

Grand Central Publishing is excited to publish the work and reportedly call the material they seen so far very interesting.

First Round of Grammy Performers Announced

Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars are just a few performers announced today to perform at the Grammys. Other acts set to be on the stage to sing are Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson and the Foo Fighters.

Minaj is nominated for Best New Artist, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Performance. Swift is nominated for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance. The Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars are both up for 6 awards, trailing behind Kanye West who has the awards' most nominations with 7.

More performers and presenters will be revealed over the next few weeks leading up the award shows. Adele is rumored to singing the opening performance of the show but it has yet to be confirmed.

The 54th Annual Grammy Awards will air live from Los Angeles, February 12, on CBS.

Madonna's New Album Title Revealed

Madonna's album title, "MDNA", has already begun trending on Twitter and being interpreted by the Media. New Madonna material cannot come soon enough for fans! Drug Reference or Genetic Reference, or no intended reference, the album is expected to drop in March of this year. It will be the artist's 12the studio album.

The lead single "Give Me All Your Luvin" is expected to be released February 7 in the United States. The track will feature M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj.

Not only is Madonna working on finishing up the album, but the musician is also set to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in a few weeks. Not to mention, her film "W.E." is also ready for theaters in early February.

Jay-Z becomes Duracell Spokesperson

Rapper Jay-Z signed a multi-global agreement with battery company, Duracell, announced the company earlier today.

The new dad will become an investment partner and the spokesperson for their new product the Duracell Powerboat JV. The "Powerboat" is a simple mat where your cell phone charges directly by placing it on top. No cords or wires to plug into.

President of Duracell (P& G), Stassi Anastassov, stated that "When [the company] thought about bringing together representatives from best-in-class categories, Jay-Z was the natural choice to be the new face and voice of Duracell Powermat."

The hip-hop mogul responded, "I believe in the future of wireless energy and I believe that Duracell Powermat is the company to bring on the revolution. I'm partnering with Duracell Powermat because they're providing the solutions for the future."

The Wanted Makes US Debut Tomorrow on Ellen

UK Boy-band, "The Wanted", is making their first stateside performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show tomorrow. Already having great popularity in the United Kingdom, the boys are hoping with their recently released second album.

The album, dubbed Battleground, had its first UK chart-topping single "Glad You Came" during the summertime. That single is reportedly what the band will sing on Ellen tomorrow at 3:00 PM Eastern Time.

The band consists of men in their late teens, early twenties hailing from both Britain and Ireland. Their names are Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker, Nathan Sykes and Max George.

Right after the performance, the boy-band are hoping all over America touring for the next two months. Dates are listed below.

RiRi claims Top Title in All-Time Digital Sales

Rihanna takes the reign as the top selling digital artist to date, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

As the most talked about Artist on Facebook in the past year, Rihanna edged out the competition with a total of 47.5 million paid downloads. The Black Eyed Peas, Eminem and Lady Gaga trailed for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively.

Rihanna's music career began in 2005, racking up popular singles from 2006's S.O.S., 2007's smash-hit Umbrella to 2011's Dance anthem We Found Love. She just released her latest album, Talk that Talk, with You Da One as her recently released single.

However, in 2011 alone, Rihanna was the 3rd Top Selling Digital Artist in Digital Sales.

EMI sues for Copyright Infringment against Music-Sharing Site Grooveshark

Record label company EMI has finally filed a lawsuit against Grooveshark for copyright infringment.

Grooveshark is an online music website where users can upload music and share their playlists with others for free.

This record label becomes the final member of the music industry's major record label companies. It becomes the fourth in total joining Warner Music Group, Sony Music, and Universal Music Group.

Officially filing the suit on Wednesday to Grooveshark's parent company Escape Media Group, EMI claimed that the web server failed to present the company with any royalty payments or accounting statements from the music shared. According to documents obtained by the New York Times, EMI is seeking unspecified damages, including at least $150,000 in royalties.

Kanye West's Twitter Rant Reveals Top Hip-Hop Agent Company Switch

Late evening yesterday, Kanye West went on a "Tweeting Tirade" to his almost 6 million followers. Over 70 Tweets posted involved rants, raves, a new design company, and an announcement that his former agent, Cara Lewis, was no longer with the William Morris agency.

Cara Lewis, a long-time agent (23 years to be exact) for the William Morris Talent Agency was known to hone in major Hip-Hop and R&B talents, including the names of 50 Cent, Rihanna, Lupe Fiasco and up to recently Kanye West.

Even though the move to Creative Artists Agency occurred almost one month ago, signed artists like Roots drummer Questlove, was just informed through West's tweets. Like Questlove, most of the public had no idea of the transition.

This leaves many questions in the air as to who will follow in the months after the transition and the affects that it will have on both agencies. Supposedly, Eminem, represented by Lewis, will follow over with her. Many wonder as to why the move was made and what could be occurring behind the scenes at the William Morris agency.

Adele's 21 Nabs 2011 Top Album Sales

Adele's 21 sold the most albums in 2011, almost hitting the 6 million mark (5.82 to be exact), according the the Nielsen Soundscan data.

Runner-up was Michael Buble's Christmas album finishing weakly behind with 2.45 million. Lady Gaga's Born This Way completed the top three albums of the year.

Other data revealed that record sales increased by a whooping 1 percent this year, the first increase in 7 years. However, CD sales were down 6 percent.

Adele's hit, "Rolling in the Deep", also was the top single of the year with 5.81 million companies. Party-Rock Duo LMFAO, danced their "Party Rock Anthem" to the second position with 5.47 million copies.

On the upside, Hipsters are reviving the Vinyl Industry as record sales in this area increased! Supposedly, clothing store Urban Outfitters is currently selling a shirt with the phrase "Vinyl is Killing the MP3 Industry".

Deadmau5 bashes Ultra Music Festival, then Apologizes

Deadmau5 recently posted a 12-minute video bashing one of the largest DJ community performances with the 3-day Ultra Music Festival. As of right now, links to the video were taken down for viewing.

Ultra Music Festival 2012 will be held from March 23-25 at Miami's Bayfront Park. Acts signed to the event already include Grammy-nominated Skrillex, Sweden's Avicii and Tiesto. Phase 2 list of more DJs are to be released soon, according to the Festival's official website.

In the video, the Canadian Producer specifically mentions that high ticket prices ($600 dollar for VIP tickets) and the business dealings behind the stage are ridiculous. Also he mentioned the absurdity of the weekend festival's policy preventing all performing DJs from performances at other venues during the few days the event is held in Miami.

The DJ/Producer did mention that it is definitely worth going for a one-time experience but that the festival is repetitive if planning on returning. A few posts later on Facebook, he apologized for the rant blaming mental illness and lack of rest.

Deadmau5 has performed at the event since 2008 and headlined the annual festival last year in 2011.

Ultra's Press Representative had no response to the video.

The three-day general admission tickets are still available for $299.95 and may be bought at ultramusicfestival.com.

New Year, New Music, New & Improved Show

Hi everybody!

Trying to integrate all social media outlets of AEW RADIO 1. The show will not return until mid-January but new improvements are being made. Including the revival of this blog! The show is coming back bigger and better. Music News can be found here on the website & hopefully future episodes of the show (in the process of being a podcast). Music Videos from Music that could be heard on the show can be found at Majestic-Lion.tumblr.com.

If you want to hear that show, that will still remain on WERW.syr.edu! All you need is a technological device that has the ability to get connected with the web!

As the new year is blooming, this show will be expanding and better carried out! Start looking for more blog posts!
