RIM unveil Blackberry Playbook a Blackberry tablet-pc

Research In Motion today release its tablet-pc called Blackberry Playbook on its Blackberry Developer Conference. This new baby boast uncompromised web browsing, true multitasking and high performance multimedia while not forgetting the advanced security features.

Powered by a Cortex A9-based dual core 1GHz CPU, 1 GB of RAM and Blackberry Tablet OS and also equipped with dual HD cameras ( one is front facing, and yes its for video conference ) which can record HD video at the same time. The Blackberry Playbook is also has an HDMI output for presenting to external displays, MicroUSB jack, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth connection.The audio output is also offering rich stereo sounds.

The Blackberry Tablet OS is built upon the QNX® Neutrino® microkernel architecture which mentioned as one of the most reliable secure and robust operating system architectures in the world. New CPU and Graphics update for Sony Vaio E , F and L Series

Sony has upgrades their Vaio series lines. The Sony Vaio E Series is available for 2.66Ghz Core i5 580M and 2.53Ghz Core i5 460M and also new 2 Ghz Pentium dual-core option.

The updates also available for Sony Vaio EA and EB which provide Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics video and 1020 pixels display. E Series also provide purple as a color choice. Sony Vaio F series is also update its video graphics for newer GeForce GT 425M which is available by this month and equipped with USB 3.0 ready to meet fast external hard drives.

The Sony Vaio L Series has options for Blu-ray and 2 TeraByte hard drive. For CPU it has 2.66Ghz Core 2 Quad S and has options of a TV tuner.

HP announced its new all-in-one PC on their TouchSmart product line. This latest TouchSmart powered by 2.8 Ghz Athlon II 24oe Dual-Core processor, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4270 Integrated graphics and 1 TeraByte storage drive. The HP's latest version Windows 7 Touch with custom user interfaces for Facebook, Twitter, Hulu, Netflix and HP's built-in TV tuner running on an 20-inch 1600x1900 resolution touchscreen. The product will hit the market on this 22nd.

Lenovo LePad coming in this December

Remember the Lenovo's IdeaPad U1 Hybrid ?, the netbook that have retractable multitouch screen. It called Hybrid because it will runs on two different operating system and two processors. It seem the retractable screen part that will hit the market very soon; it called LePad, while the U1 dock will be released later. The tablet will be obviously sized 10.1 inch touchscreen. What about the LePad specification ?

Although it is not clearly what are being put into this device, back during CES it was featuring ARM CPU and Windows 7 and Skylight Linux OS , however it has since been changed to Android OS. Rumours said the device might also featuring 16 GB flash drive and 512 MB of RAM.

This will be likely more interesting once U1 is released, the netbook will comes with Core 2 Duo CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 128GB SSD, a full QWERTY keyboard, additional ports and Windows 7. Quite powerful device, and it's great choice for Xmas gift too.

How to handle 49.4C02 errors on HP Laserjet P3005 series

Have you ever facing the problem when your HP P3005n Laserjet Printer is returning 49.4C02 Errors on its control panel screen ?. Recently I got it and found the solution is very easy. My colleague was sent the printer to the vendor for fix but apparently he was asked to pay $250 to replace the printer main board. I said no and would be glad if he can pay me only a half of those price if I can fix his printer *grin* . The error occurs when users are trying to print from Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.x , however it is not always occurs on every documents that are opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.x, hence only happened on few documents, depend on the content. So how is the solution ?.

The cause of the error is the firmware. You need to update your HP Laserjet's firmware to the latest one. HP confirmed their old firmware is having problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.x, and probably any later version. To update your printer's firmware you need the firmware itself and firmware update utility from here . Extract the firmware update utility and the firmware. Copy the firmware, usually it has .rfu extension to the firmware update utility. Execute the firmware update utility and select the printer that need to be updated. Wait a few minutes for the uploading the firmware to the printer is processed. When the process is done, the printer control panel will be back to status READY. This indicating the firmware process is done. Now your printer is ready to print.

This logo of Google made me curious at first, until I found that the logo depicting Large Hadron Collider, a multi-billion dollar project that has been under construction since 2003. It has been installed in a 17-mile-round circular tunnel down under Swiss-French border and expected to complete and starts fully operating early next year. .

What is it actually ?, this beast is made in attempt to help human know what actually in God's mind in creating universe, be precisely the collider will helps scientists on studying particles and forces that yet unobserved, where collisions of beams of protons travelling at the speed of light will show what particles are created during collisions. Recently Mozilla Labs announced the launch of Ubiquity, an experiment from Mozilla Labs to connect the web with language in attempt to provide new user interfaces that enables everyone to do common web tasks more quickly and easily.

Ubiquity is made to simplify tasks on Web interaction. As illustration Mozilla gave an example, there are lots of tasks you should do to send invitation to a friend for a meetup in a restaurant where in the invitation email you want to include the map of the restaurant so your friend easily find them as well as a review of the restaurant. All of these requires you to do many web tasks, composing on a web-mail service, finding the map on map site, copy the map image to the email or maybe just put the link of the map, searching review on search-engine, then paste the review to email or just put a link of it. Can you count how many clicks and windows involved ?.

This feature reminds me to the Stealther plug-in for Firefox which does the same thing and Google Chrome with Incognito mode browsing. And I strongly suggest to folks at Mozilla to made this feature by standard rather than rely on a plugin.

Double-sided touch panel display prototype introduced

A double-faced touch panel display recently exhibited at Sign & Display Show 2008 , 28 - 30 Aug in Tokyo, Japan. The dual-faced display by Teraokaseiko Co Ltd was made by attaching a resistive touch panel to the both sides of a transparent inorganic EL panel. The prototype is an orange monochrome display with is 256 x 120 pixels, that can be touched at either both sides.

So what this thing is best for ? Teraokaseiko expects the dual-faced touch display will be suits for mapping software where users can touch the back side of the display to operate it without hiding a part of the map with their fingers and chance two users of gamer facing each other can play a game by using both sides of the display. Sound cool.

Google Chrome first encounter

I have downloaded Google Chrome beta this morning and haven't tried until this afternoon. Installation is straight and easy, a file sized about 475 Kilobytes was downloaded and running the file will do the installation. When install is finish you are offered to import from its big brother, existing Mozilla Firefox. However you can just skip the import process.

This afternoon I tried to browse with Google chrome for small Google Chrome review. First impression I got was, the screen is so clean and tidy and fast initialization. There are no cluttered buttons. Bottom area of the browser is naked free from buttons and space for status bar and any other common thingy on a browser bottom. This uncluttered screen area gives wider point of view, especially for one with average monitor size. However, since the extension for Google Chrome is not available at the moment, I think when the time is come for extensions, this clean appearance will be populated by buttons.

Clever solution from folks at Google is for the status bar that is only appears when mouse is hovering the links on the page. This solution provides more space for the content of the browser. As I wrote in previous post that Chrome is isolating each tab to prevent crashing another tab. This feature is represented by the Task Manager on Google Chrome, hence just like Windows task manager, when you found one tab that is freezing, with task manager you can easily kill the tab without losing other tabs. The feature that I like the most from Google Chrome. I've always having trouble with freezing Firefox tabs and ended with losing all opened tabs.

On tab browsing side I found there is no button to switch to previous or next tab ( very useful when opening lost of tabs ), however keyboard shortcuts Ctrl-Shif-Tab and Ctrl-Tab is enough for solution. Opening computer files can be done through three ways, by pressing Ctrl-O , dragging the file onto Chrome window and by common browsers solution, typing the file path on address bar. Searching internet can be done easily by typing keywords in address bar. It is automatically search the internet with preferred search engine you like. The default search engine uses for this searh feature can be set and managed through the options menu, whether you like Google, Yahoo or any other search engine. Bookmarking can be done by pressing Ctrl-D, pressing star button beside address bar and dragging the page link onto the bookmarks tab that is activated and toggled by pressing Ctrl-B. Creating folders on bookmarks tab is easy and will appears on bookmarks tab. By showing folders on bookmarks tab this way, accessing bookmarks is even easier.

Overall Google Chrome is quite satisfying, despite some lacks at some points, it is acceptable as this is beta version. I couldn't comment of the speed of Google Chrome on browsing the page as I run it on shared connection where I found the speed is average comparing with Firefox on the same condition. At the other hand, following the hype, at the first day of beta release, techcrunch reported that Getclicky web analytic says that almost 2% of all traffic to 45,000 sites they monitored is coming from Google Chrome; quite interesting

Lets hoping the final release will have lots of improvements and heading the way to better browsing experience with Google Chrome.

Ups ... Microsoft did it again : PageUp and PageDown keys patented

It seems Microsoft is racing approaching 10,000 mark for their US Patent. At the other hand, Microsoft has a long story for its patents that are many argue about it , or can sometimes demonstrate or were based on earlier work carried by others or common basic self-evident idea. One example is patent on mouse wheel that can scroll up and scroll down .

And now Microsoft did it again with Page Up and Page Down keystrokes, the patent was granted on August 19 under US patent number 7,415,666 " Method and system for navigating paginated content in page-based increments " and was applied for the patent in 2005. For your information, Page Up and Page Down buttons have been in existence since the beginning of personal computer.

The Patent abstract for this patent stated :

A method and system in a document viewer for scrolling a substantially exact increment in a document, such as one page, regardless of whether the zoom is such that some, all or one page is currently being viewed. In one implementation, pressing a Page Down or Page Up keyboard key/button allows a user to begin at any starting vertical location within a page, and navigate to that same location on the next or previous page. For example, if a user is viewing a page starting in a viewing area from the middle of that page and ending at the bottom, a Page Down command will cause the next page to be shown in the viewing area starting at the middle of the next page and ending at the bottom of the next page. Similar behavior occurs when there is more than one column of pages being displayed in a row.

Google Chrome , new open source browser from Google

It is reported that Google is planning to release its Google Browser known as "Google Chrome" tomorrow. Another browser ?, yes and Google is serious about it. Google Chrome is claimed to be streamlined and simple as well as clean and fast. I haven't seen any of Google Chrome in action before, here I put an image of Google Chrome courtesy of Techcrunch. Meanwhile take a look at this comic strip that explains about technical design of Google Chrome.

Built from open source Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox components, Google Chrome is open sourced as well. On the official Google Blog it is said Google Chrome will keep each tab in an isolated sandbox, hence to prevent tab interfering another and provide better improved protection. They also boasts more powerful Javascript engine, V8 that will power up the next generation of web applications that aren't possible in others today's web browsers.

Correct AdSense placement enforcement: No ads below blog title allowed

We all know that Google AdSense ads placement below a post title just above the post content is one of a heat spot. At least that was what Google documented before. There is guidelines months ago that suggesting putting ads below post title is a no-no as it could implies the ads as not ads . The guidelines clearly stating "ads shouldn’t be placed under a title or section heading in a way that implies that the ads are not ads ". It seem now Google team try to enforce the guidelines, one blogger was contacted to follow this guideline.

Quickonlinetips was contacted by Google about the Adsense placement below post title, and as a result quickonlinetips now put "Advertisement" word above the adsense ads that placed below the post title.

Do I need to follow putting advertisement word above the ads ?. Currently I'm preparing for it, however I think my Adsense ads that placed below the post title is slightly different ( as the guidelines shown ). Mine were formated in banner style instead of square and it is quite distinguishable from the post content. Lets see, I'm working on it to fulfill Google guidelines requirements.

You may already noticed this feature on your adsense account. Although monetizing feeds isn't new, having this feature from inside adsense account is just great. The setup allows all adsene setup items, including ad type, position, channel and colors plus the frequency of ads and post length that you wish ads to show.

Up to now, you need to inform Adsense team your Feedburner account to get your feeds account in Adsense for feeds, no self service available yet. If you dont have feedburner account, you can create new feed and get the ads displayed.

The oldest blogger is Olive Riley from Australia, aged 108 years. Olive Riley had passed away on 12 July 2008. What Olive Riley has done is such an achievement, she embracing internet in her 106 th year. You know what ?, she called blog as blob, and her blobbing is inspiring, a true blogging spirit.

'This tape will destroy itself in 5 seconds', is renowned quote from Mission Impossible film. We are now can do the same thing as those MI agents. Sending message that will destroy it self after the receiver read the message sounds cool. Privnote is a web application that lets you creates message and sent it to receiver and then deletes it. However, don't expect the message will destroy itself with auto-exploding scene as on those MI movies. It just deleted when the intended message recipient read the message, that's all without explosion ado.

So how about losing the message ?, well that is your mistake then. The message is secret, please read the message then memorize it, if you have kind of short term memory loss, then your capability as an agent is questioned.*grin*. The message is deleted right away as you read the message on browser, which means when you close the browser window the message is gone.

SEO Friendly Flash : Google on progress to crawl Flash better

Is it mean now we can build SEO friendly full fledged flash websites ?, well I can't tell you for sure about it, but obviously folks at Google has made some improvements on crawling Flash. This is what SEO experts and webmasters waiting for since years, as Flash considered not SEO friendly. Although this is not a major breakthrough and there are pessimist opinions and drawbacks about it, it is not wise to judge it is bad, at least this is better than nothing.

Although the news couldn't make us jump for joy, just yet, what we have to note is Google has made improvement and brings light to webmasters. However many many tricks available to make Flash working fine with search engine. Benj Arriola of Business Online Blog wrote about four solutions for dealing with SEO problems of Flash covers about techniques and suggestions that can be adopted by full flash or partly flash websites such as using SWFObject and sIFR.

We all know, sysinternals tools are useful system tools for Microsoft Windows. ProcessExplorer is the tool I always love to use. Now we can access all Sysinternals tools through internet as file share live. Simply enter \\live.sysinternals.com in your browser address bar, all files showed and ready to be accessed lively. I found this is great, now you can run the tools directly from the file share or simply drag it to your local folder to download the tools.

You are also can run the tools directly from command prompt. Just type: \\live.sysinternals.com\tools\procexp.exe in command prompt to run Process Explorer tool.

There are many services that offers Twitter search, but I found this webpronews service called Twellow is interesting. Twellow let you search Twitter user and they organized them in category and simply provides you Twitter directory that is simply useful. It reminds me to the dmoz web directory project, and Twellow is just pioneering the directory for Twitter, a yellow pages for Twitter.

In previous post I was posting about web2.0 application called only2clicks that simplifies your actions on visiting your bookmarks. We do love simplicity mainly because basically we are lazy, wait, simple is sophisticated no ? as most people said refer to Da Vinci quote, "simple is ultimate sophistication". I clearly seen this on Apple products, iPhone, iPod etc.

Speaking of simplicity, having RSS and access to social media in a one page and rich in features is another simplicity. That's what Feedly does, giving you a more social and magazine-like start page for your Firefox 3.
