Based on my personal experience of the Charlottesville Real Estate Market in the past 4 weeks, I cannot disagree with this sentiment. Buffett is talking specifically about real estate as an investment vehicle, but in general, whether you are shopping for a home or a rental property, the market seems to be “taking off”. Inventory is moving and multiple offer situations have been the norm in February 2012.

Will it last? Too soon to tell, but it’s my cautious optimism is becoming more concrete daily.

Match Day for medical students is just around the corner on March 16th. If you are a graduating medical student applying for a resident slot at UVA in Charlottesville and you’re going to be a resident for more than 3 years, buying a home might be a good choice. If you’re only going to be in a 2 or 3 year program and then plan to leave Charlottesville, I would not counsel buying at this time, but for you future neurosurgeons, facing a seven year residency, it could be a great option!
