It makes me wonder when the time comes, will I be sad? A friend told me that it broke her heart when her son stopped nursing at 8 months. She was hospitalized for dengue fever and due to that many nights of absence and weird taste of the medicine she has to take, her son refused to nurse directly.

I have to admit that it feels empowering, knowing that no one else has the power to comfort your son other than the pair of breasts that God endowed upon you since you are like 14, 15? hehe..and pre-baby and pre-marriage years, you thought those breasts are just a sex symbol or the perfect trophy of womanhood.

Being a mom and breastfeeding your child, you realize it means so much more - it provides food for the hungry mouth, it gives comfort during trying and sleepless nights when he’s teething, having fever, had a nightmare or simply to let him know that Mom is around.

It’s a precious drop that no one else can provide and no money can buy. Try ask around any lactating moms whether they would be willing to be a wet nurse to your child, I bet unless you are some royal Queen with humble servants, you won’t have a chance to get a willing mom to do the nursing job..heh!

So while it lasts, I will try to enjoy the experience (although there are times at night that I wish I can sleep peacefully on my stomach for the whole stretch of 7 hours). I know it won’t be forever and when it comes to the weaning moment, I will for sure be sad like hell!

I’m not sure whether in Malaysia there exists such thing like Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Gamblers Anonymous (GA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting. And I don’t have anyone close that goes to such meeting to clarify. It’s embarrassing enough to admit that you are an addict and need help, thus why many addicts opt for silence treatment and attending anonymous addiction groups.

For those who need to look out for a relevant meeting in their area, you can check out InTheRooms Meetings database. This Wiki will also allow any member to help manage the most accurate meeting database online. You can make any revision to any meeting and their moderators will review and approve. Thus we can have the most accurate meeting database online to date.

For now they have several meetings database including Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous and Gamblers Anonymous. It also covers all meetings from most of the countries in the world (alas, I couldn’t find Malaysia in the list). So if you know any such meetings in Malaysia, please register and submit the details so that Malaysians who need such help would be able to attend the anonymous meeting.

This is your chance to make a difference and get to know fellow friends who are in need of support to overcome whatever addiction they are battling in life.

The phrase “working mother” is redundant. ~Jane Sellman

It was the kind of splendid September day when sending kids to school just feels wrong. Fortunately, that year I was home schooling and calling the shots. Plus we were living in California, an hour from the Pacific Ocean. For all I knew, it could have been the last day of summer, and we wouldn’t want to miss that. So it was off to the ocean with five children under eight―Josh, Matt, Ben, Zach, and Sophia.

Together, we cleaned up from breakfast, prepped the car, and then gathered beach blankets, umbrella, towels, swimsuits, diapers, sunglasses, sand toys, first aid kit, sunscreen, a cooler full of snacks and drinks―ay yi yi yi yi! Hello, motherhood; goodbye spontaneity. I loaded the assorted car seats and strapped, snapped, and buckled five wiggling bodies into Big Blue―the 1989 Suburban we outgrew only a few years later. We were on our way.

With everyone else in school, the whole beach was ours. I staked out our territory close to the water, hauled everything down from the car, and set up camp. For five hours I served as personal valet, sunscreen slatherer, weather advisor, recreation director, swim instructor, lifeguard, EMT, food concessionaire, manners consultant, bus boy, interpreter, peace negotiator, psychologist… not to mention keeper of the lost-and-found.

Finally, I hauled everything back to the car, strapped, snapped, and buckled five sunscreen-and-sand-coated-but-no-longer-wiggly warm, limp bodies back into Big Blue and headed for home. The sun through the window was soothing, and the car was full of contentment. It had been a wonderful day and I was pleased with myself as a mother. Then, from the back seat, I heard Zachary clear his throat, and in his deadpan four-year-old Eeyore voice ask, “Mom, when are you going to get a job?”

“This is my job,” I said, somewhat amused and just a little edgy.

Homeward bound with the kids falling asleep one by one, I was left alone with my thoughts. I began to see the beauty of Zach’s question. Somehow―even though it could be hard work and even though I had my testy moments―my kids didn’t think of motherhood as a job.

And I decided that was a good thing because it’s not really a job at all, but a calling. And callings just don’t look like jobs, because they require more of a person than a job requires. This is particularly true of stay-at-home mothers whose days are spent conquering mountains of laundry, creating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and kissing owies.

We live in a world where success is measured by progress, as recorded on report cards, sales reports, performance reviews, pay raises and symbolized by ribbons, trophies, and merit badges. In our lifetimes, our husbands and children will bring scores of these items home and make us proud. We’ll put them in scrapbooks, sew them on uniforms, frame and hang them up for all to see.

But I don’t know of any special awards for teaching a child to tie her shoe or come to dinner when called. No raises or praises when a mother drops everything to drive someone out for poster board―”your project’s due tomorrow? But it’s almost eight o’clock!”

Every day this goes on with everyday moms doing everyday things― sometimes struggling with feelings of inferiority or even worthlessness ―just being obedient to their calling.

But while motherhood can look easy (after all, it certainly is not rocket science), the irony is this: while lots of important people in important places conduct lots of important business every day, the truly most important work in the whole world is really going on at home, where the CEO is mommy.

I guess if we got disgruntled enough from lack of appreciation, we could start a Mommy Power movement with bumper stickers that say, “If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.”

We could sue people who put us down at parties and maybe even become a protected minority.

But that wouldn’t be very mommy-like, would it? Because there’s something about mommies that should be soft where others are hard, kind where others are cruel, patient where others can’t wait. We may not start out that way at all, but there’s absolutely nothing like motherhood to change anything about us that needs to be changed.

At least, that’s how it’s been on my motherhood journey. I set out to make a home, to grow a family, and to help my children reach their potential.

The most amazing thing is that while I was helping them reach theirs, they were helping me reach mine.

I think there are many pro and cons when you are a homemaker in the housing area where most of the neighbors’ wives go out to work, leaving you with their bibik around.

First, the neighbors might have this impression that you are not educated enough, since you are not working.

Second, sometimes even the bibik around will think that you are a bibik as well since you don’t have time to put on make up and dress nicely like all other “ibu-ibu”…heh!

But the pro will be, you’ll get to know all the internal affairs about other bibik and their “ibu ” and “bapak” if you manage to strike a camaraderie with them..heh! Of course I’m still not sure how much I can trust their words since you know, people might lie and make up stories to save their ass..thus the reason why I don’t feel like hiring a bibik..although there are moments that I feel kan bagus kalau ada maid, boleh suruh buat kerja..

Seeing and hearing things make me feel grateful that I have what I have now. I don’t think I could survive another human being making me annoyed and frustrated, you know how I can’t stand slow people, apatah lagi to have them living under my roof…isk isk..huhu!

Well, you can’t really blame them if you realized the facts that these bibik are all less educated than you, coming from poor background with lack of facilities, never use any weird kitchen appliances, yet you expect them to come equipped with all kind of homemaking skills to run your home as perfectly as you thought you could do.

I think if I ever need outside help, I will rather take the part time basis, just to clean up here and there occasionally. I don’t think Hubby will like a maid cooking his dinner, or wash his boxers..haha! And help raising our son, definitely no-no!

It’s kind of a popular question..if you are not married, people will ask when will you get married, once you are married, they will ask are you pregnant yet? and once you popped out your first child, they will ask when are you going to have the second one, if it’s a boy, they will ask don’t you want to have a girl?…sigh!

I don’t know about other women, but personally I feel really offended and demeaning when a man dictates how many kids he wants…hello?? no uterus, no demand, OK!

Do you know that it’s hard to be pregnant - if you don’t have morning sickness, then you are really a lucky woman, but if you do, then you know how it feels to puke all day long, whatever you eat and drink, come out through the mouth, right from your stomach once again makes you feel tired (some even vomit blood because the esophagus get irritated by too much vomiting), you are feeling really sick, your body are in silent pain - all the major organs are working too hard, all the joints stretch to accommodate the extra weight causing pelvis pain, backache, the heart is pumping more as if you are climbing a mountain, you have nausea, and you put up with all these just because you want to bear your hubby’s son or daughter..

I think if God grant a man a capability of conceiving and giving birth, the entire human population will soon diminish.

And not to mention the agony of childbirth, the pain during contraction, the pushing out process, even with petadine, you will still feel the pain. I just can’t imagine how women in the old age stand childbirth without any drugs, no wonder some even die while giving birth..huhu!

It’s painful to the extent that when the gynae is doing the episiotomy, snipping your perineum, you can hear her scissors snipping but you don’t feel the pain or rather can’t differentiate the pain because the contraction pain was more powerful..(as Hubby said he saw the blood gushing out from the snipping wound, luckily he didn’t faint! heh!)

Note: Episiotomy is a procedure where the skin between the vagina and the anus is cut. (This area is called the the perineum.)

During childbirth, the area called the perineum is often cut to facilitate delivery (A). First, a local anesthetic may be given (B). The perineum is cut on an angle with scissors (C). After delivery, the layers of muscle and skin are repaired (D and E). (Illustration by GGS Inc.)

And the sore that comes after the episiotomy…huhu…and yet a man dare to ask for sex after 30 days (I heard stories about some men who do it even during his wife’s confinement period - 20 days..what a beast! - as if he can’t think of anything else but sex, and the timid wife gave in painfully because she feels that it’s her tanggungjawab, takut nanti laki cari pompuan lain, bullshit!) Imagine if someone slash your penis and during the healing time someone rape you..

And the burden doesn’t stop there, some women battle with postpartum depression, fighting the weight gain problem (bini dah gemuk lepas beranak, komplen pulak tu), and the tiring experience of raising a child..oh, please don’t preach to me about all the pahala of being a mom, try for once taking over a little bit of her responsibility and you’ll know why God give such big appraisal for the job..

For all the men who simply “do it” and somehow proud of impregnating their wives every year (konon jantan habis la tu), I am not sure whether your wives do it because she really love children, or she terpaksa dalam rela, or she has to put up with all of these susah payah because she wants to be isteri yang taat, giving in to your demand to have how many children in how many years…as a woman, I pity her!

To all men (who happen to read this), I don’t mean to create any controversial issue here, but if you could at least sit back and ponder through, I hope you could appreciate your wife even more for all that she has done for you..

I’m not sure how soon I can be back into full operation, but currently I’m doing some hantaran stuffs for a friend for a July event. We decided to devote this one room for my SOHO space, means that this is where my craft studio will be from now on until I could find a shop lot for the business.

All of the craft stuffs were packed in the boxes, even the shelves and the display cabinet have been placed in the room.

The old air cond which has been installed in the previous master bedroom is now the SOHO air cond. There is also a ceiling fan just in case I need some breezy air (I don’t like opening the windows especially when I am working on a certain project!)

I’m not sure when will I have the time to sort and arrange all the craft materials, although some of them will stay in the boxes until the time I need them for coming project…sigh!

If there is one thing I regretted not doing, it would be to save the stem cells from my son’s umbilical cord blood. For those who are not aware, stem cells from umbilical cord blood are known to treat over 70 diseases, and have been used in over 12,000 transplants worldwide.

Taken from the Cryo-Cell website,

“Your baby’s cord blood is rich in stem cells, which are special cells normally found in our bone marrow. Stem cells are the master cells responsible for producing all of the mature cells in our blood and immune system. They form the white cells that fight infection, the red cells that carry oxygen, the platelets that promote clotting and the cells of our immune systems.

Stem cell treatments and transplants have already been used for such wide-ranging diseases and conditions as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemia, sickle cell disease, severe anemia’s and severe combined immunodeficiency. ”

Honestly we were not against the idea of the cord blood banking when we attended the antenatal class, the only setback that time was the expensive fees. I thought I will have time to reconsider and later sign up, but then the precious one decided to pop out too soon..heh!

I am not sure whether there will be another child in the future, but if I decide to have the next one, I will make sure that time I will choose to bank the cord blood.

Check out this Cryo-Cell Customer Testimonial:

“My children are the most precious gifts that I will ever have and I want to do everything I can to make sure they are well. While I was pregnant with my first child, I would see articles and ads about cord blood and it bothered me that it was so expensive but what if I one day needed this blood. The reality of having only one chance or it really went in the garbage kept me wondering if I would regret not investing. What if he had cancer or his dad or I were sick, would that blood have been the cure? Through research, I came across Cryo-Cell International, Inc., a company with the most reasonable rates and the assurance of two holding facilities.

When I was pregnant with my second child, we wondered if one bank was enough? Finances were tighter and should we spend the money? Then we realized that his brothers blood might not match for the new baby. The next day, stories were breaking about how Cord blood had saved or changed the lives of children, one cancer, one cerebral palsy. Then we discovered that a friend was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. He didn’t bank his daughters blood and wished he had. Three years prior, I lost a friend to renal cancer when she was 29. We felt like it was our answer.

We are just beginning to see miracles that this blood can bring. We have two “life insurance policies”, that is how we look at it. If anyone in the family gets ill, there is a chance that the blood could save our lives. If we don’t use it, then it is there for our son’s children.”

Sincerely,
mother of Parker and Davis

We found this among all the junks when we packed our things to move to our new home. Well, I can’t really remember when I first had my mobile phone and this prepaid package. If it was during college years, then it will be about 10 years ago. The point is check out the price for the prepaid - it’s RM238 with RM50 reload in the SIM card..huhu!

Now you can get as low as RM10 for a prepaid package…sigh!

Hey you! Check out the Scrubs, the nurse’s guide to good living. Even though I am not a trained nurse, but being a stay-at-home mom makes me feel like one - having to staff the household health care system 24/7, 365 days a year, have to stay fully awake and alert, keeping an eye on the little one and even to work around the clock, on evening (morning, night) shift to breastfeed, well for all that, the guide seems to ring a bell to me.

How about checking their article on wake up looking younger. You moms out there wouldn’t want to look like a grandma on the first day of sending your child to school, right? I for once would love to keep this young face of mine..(hubby, please don’t puke..hehe!)

The guide says, first you have to make sure you have a clean face before you fall asleep. Not that I wear any make up at home, but still after gruelling hours of taking care of the son and settling the house chore, a good face wash won’t hurt either.

And the second tip, moisturize..that’s one aspect of facial I find too hard to do especially when all I want to do is to grab some sleep while the baby is sleeping at night.

Oh, read this :

“Tame stray hairs. Nothing makes you look older than ungroomed eyebrows or those chin hairs that would make a billy goat proud. Plucking and depilatories often cause redness, so grooming at night lets your skin calm down by morning.”

Chin hairs…haha! I thought I am the only one with such ugly hairs at places that should be hairless (at least for women..haha!)

And how about try to sleep on your back, rather than on your face or your stomach? That do-able, if I don’t have to sleep while lying on my side all night long nursing the little one…sigh!

This was once our home together, where we spent many happy hours being a couple.

It was where we dreamed and came home to after work, that one day we will be able to buy a place of our own.

The front yard was where I spent many hours, sowing seeds of love, watching them grew, and enjoyed the flowers when they bloomed.

This was a sanctuary of 9 months of conception, in which we brought the precious bundle home.

It might not be ours, but it surely held memories of many meaningful moments.

It used to be our home…

Lately I have been pondering on the idea of installing wireless security system for my new home. I can’t help but to feel great fear whenever I read or heard on the news about theft and burglary. It’s not so much about the lost of belongings or whatever mere possession I have at home, but what if something were to happen to our family? (Touchwood!)

For now we only have bars at the door and windows. And Hubby bought a sensor light and installed at the front door to detect motion at night. Even having a large dog won’t ensure the safety as the previous neighbor told me about how her house was broken in a few weeks ago, even though the next door house has a dog. Luckily nobody was harmed in the burglary.

If given the choice, I think I will go for their Gold package as it covers 12 entry points and gives 1 motion detector. What these 12 entry points mean is that the wireless door and window sensors will cover the most vulnerable perimeter openings. When an intruder opens any of those doors or windows, your siren will activate and the alarm system monitoring station will be notified immediately.

The package also comes with internal siren. Their X10 Powerhorn Siren, a piercing, 105 db, plug-in sirens can be added anywhere around the home. They work through your existing home wiring. The siren responds to signals from an alerted Command Station. No intruder will hang around when one of these sirens sound.

For those in the US, check out this toll free number, 877-470-2751 and if you call now you will get 2 keychain remotes with your order.

As per above picture, I have here 2 pairs of Women’s Levi’s 545 & 515 Boot Cut Jeans for sale. These two pairs of jeans have never been worn at all. All the tags are still intact.

Reason being I can’t fit into it. Hubby bought them in the US last year and I being the kampung-type who seldom wear authentic jeans gave him wrong size. He bought both in 8 Medium Misses size..huhu! (which translates to jeans with Waistband 34″(86.5 cm), Inseam 32″(81.5 cm), If the Jeans lay down flat: Waist 16.5″(41.5 cm))

I thought being pregnant would enable me to wear the jeans, but my pregnant waist never go past 28″ in size…

So for those with a 34″ waist size, please buy my jeans so that I could buy one locally in my size. I’m selling one pair for RM150, and if you are taking both pairs for RM250. Please leave your details in the comment if you are really interested to buy.

People say take one step at a time, but in my case being a SAHM, I feel that I’m taking one day at a time..huhu! Why would I say that? Because I feel that for me time crawls rather than flies..I’m not sure when I really fall asleep, when the day starts, and when does it end..and the cycle continues..

I feel bad to confess that I have this ugly thought in my head, but me being a mere human, I just can’t help it. Sometimes it makes me cry, most of the time I feel like running away and leave this life behind. It doesn’t make me love my son any less, but at times, honestly I feel suffocated simply being “a mom”.

Now I know why some women can’t stand being at home, not working and solely taking care of their children. This is why some women rather brave the wee hours of going to work regardless how small their pay is, rather than being stuck at home with their kids, unpaid! Or why some women choose to hire maid, send their children to nursery or send the kids to grandparents and go back to see the children on weekly or monthly basis.

The toll of being a mom is too much, this is not a job just anyone can do. I finished reading the Baby Whisperer book and I really like this part:

” A lot of mums go into denial, particularly those who leave thriving, high prestige careers in favor of motherhood, or those who are superorganized. Their lives are thrown out of sync when the baby arrives. They want to believe that life will be exactly the way it always has been. And rather than feel the emotions that come with early motherhood or own up to their fears, they minimize the experience.

In fact, prospective power mums often ask, “How hard could it be to have a baby?” or “How hard could it be to breastfeed?” When they get home, they find out that although they can run multimillion-dollar companies or shepherd complex programs through committees, motherhood poses challenges they never dreamed of.

Thus, part of their denial manifests itself in an urgency to embrace something they already know how to do and are good at. Business or lunch with their cronies is a no-brainer compared to all they have to do and learn when they first come home with a new baby.”

I hope I will be strong enough to journey through all these baby years..and may things will be easier, Amin!

Well, the weekend started early for us since these days, Hubby’s Boss in US allows him to go back on Friday at 4pm..keh keh! So off we went to Ikano to take my Gucci “spek cikgu bedah”..well, it’s my turn this year to enjoy the optical RM1k benefit since last year we used the allocation for maternity and Hubby’s specs.

And guess what, KL Bird Park comes to Ikano to promote discounted tickets during these school holiday. I think you can save RM5 per person if you buy the ticket there. There are also birds in the concourse area and we took a family picture with those 3 very tame birds..(of course Hubby has to hold all 3 birds - I think 2 are bald eagles, and one cheerful red kenari(?)..eeiii I was so scared of all the birds..kalau dia patuk, or somehow tiba2 terbang mengamuk towards me..naya je!)

So if you could see the polaroid picture you will see how terrified, and buat2 muka tak takut face I had while holding our son. And the son was not even terrified of the birds..bagus la, if later ada burung sesat terbang masuk dalam rumah, at least I have a rescuer..heh!

On Saturday, we went to the old house to clear up one last time. Actually the plan was for me and the son to stay at home while Hubby went there alone to clean up, but since the tailor SMSed telling my baju for dinner dah siap, apa lagi kan..has to use the reason to clean the house sebab nak collect the baju kurung..heh!

Sunday, we went to hand over the rented house keys. The landlady was very nice, even her mom (or MIL) was very friendly telling Hubby that for Chinese they considered the rented house very “ong’ because the tenant live there for a long time (5 years!!) and lead a happy, healthy life to the extent of having child and manage to buy own house.

After settled everything (and got back some portion of our utility deposit..hehe!), we went to Low Yat because Hubby wanted to buy something but he said I shouldn’t tell what it is..(curious tak?…heh!) It was the first IT trip for the son..but unluckily we couldn’t find the gadget. So considered the mission was not completed…aarghh tension!

We are still looking around for the gadget. Hopefully Hubby will manage to get it soon so that the son and I will be able to enjoy some great entertainment in the master bedroom with the air cond on..heh! (seriously panas la sekarang even with full blast of ceiling fan downstairs).

Oh, in the meantime, I’m trying to curi masa to sew the beads on the new baju kurung for me to wear to Hubby’s company annual dinner..heh! The theme is occupation so here I come as a teacher..ceh! I was hoping to get something like Bob The Builder costume for our son, tapi macam tak de je..huhu! Hubby is still not sure what he wants to be to the dinner..

At least with the son put in the Jumperoo, I don’t have to be worried of him being tergolek, tertiarap on the floor. He can roll over to the left or to the right, but still is unable to turn back to the normal position, thus the cry for help..huhu!

I hope he can sit unsupported soon so that he won’t be so bored lying down or being on his tummy most of the time. Of course the best remedy for him to stop crying will be a hug from Mama, berdukung all the time walking around the house.

With an almost 7 kg weight, lugging him around a few hours a day, I don’t need to lift dumb bell anymore..huhu!

I have been chatting with a friend about how to make more money these days, with less effort, minimal capital but good profit. And then I found this website about Naveen Jain - Wizard of the Information Industry.

He used to work in Microsoft for 7 years, and now is listed in Forbes 400 with a net worth of $2,200 mil. During his career years in Microsoft, he was involved in OS/2, and MS-DOS, as well as Windows NT and Windows 95, systems for which Naveen Jain still owns patent rights. He then later became a group manager at Microsoft and launched Microsoft’s online service, The Microsoft Network.

Got tired of making billions for Bill Gates, he founded InfoSpace (with little financing), an internet technology company once heralded as the next Microsoft. He took the company public on NASDAQ in 1998. InfoSpace became the Internet content supplier which provides horoscopes and stock quotes to AOL, Lycos and other Web sites.

He then founded Intelius in January of 2003. Intelius started out as an online information service providing “intelligence” on individuals, including court records, property holdings, address information, and the various associations between people.

The point here is how with experience and sheer determination, a person could build a business (and even more businesses) and make it a success. Quoting from a website on Bootstrapping : the secret to entrepreneurial success seminar in which Naveen Jain was one of the panelists,

“Bootstrapping is the act of starting a business with little or no external funding. Bootstrappers don’t write lengthy business plans, chase deep-pocketed investors, or indulge in overly academic market research exercises. Instead, they focus all of their considerable energy, brainpower, determination and skills on creating a business that can actually succeed in the real world.”

I hope I will find the courage and strong inspiration to get it moving. Who knows in years to come I might be invited as one of the panelists in any entrepreneurship seminar..heh!

I bought this before I delivered my son many months ago. The intention was to use it while breastfeeding him. But since he nursed almost all day and night long, I resorted to breastfeed him while lying down.

So since I hardly even use this pillow for nursing (and have no intention to keep it for the next baby), I am letting it go for RM100. I bought this from ebay and with the international postage I think it costs me even more than RM100, but I couldn’t find the transaction receipt.

Last week I checked at Metrojaya, they are selling the non-travel type for RM188.

Please check out the details in myBrestfriend official website - Travel Pillow.

This is how it will look like once you inflate the travel pillow and put on its cover. The design of the cover is sunburst (in soft green).

For those who are new to all these breastfeeding “gadget” you can check out the features that most moms will find useful.

For anyone interested to buy, kindly leave comment with your valid email address, and I will get back to you soon.
