News Fatigue, Rising Cynicism, and "Catching Your Second Wind"

Watching the news everyday, hearing the status quo; Congress and The House Republicans refuse to work with President Obama in passing key legislation, police officers continue to beat to a bloody pulp and sometimes murder unarmed black men (as if trying to prove a point or set an example).

A racist song/chant has made it's way into the headlines causing a corporation like Starbucks -- to use it's well-known brand to lead race discussions, a hijacked plane leaves hundreds dead, or an unfit parent chooses to abuse and murder their own children -- more innocent lives lost.

So due to my mental fatigue it was necessary for me to not write anything -- to rest my thought process, which on many occasions had me with head in hand or tears in my eyes.

I wanted to write about President Obama's extraordinary and

history-making 'Selma' speech, which had me completely overcome with emotion and pride. Then, I thought about how 50 years ago that day, our American citizens took the same walk across that Alabama bridge (which is still named after a well-known racist) in the fight for equality and fairness under the law, only to be met by what we're seeing today.

President Obama is correct in saying that this country's progress has indeed come a long way, but when you watch before your very eyes as people use their authority and power to strip away the centuries of sacrifices brought about by the blood, sweat and tears of Americans, you find your cynicism kicking itself up a few notches until you almost give up in defeat.

However, when you come to realize that our adversaries would love nothing more than for us to give up in defeat, you draw your second wind and strength from the fact that "you've already been paid for", as the iconic Dr. Maya Angelou would say.

And because we've already been paid for is more than enough reason to not sit back and become complacent; like parents that have already paid for their child's college education and instead of getting that education, the child chooses to sit and do nothing while wasting their parent's investment.

But does the child even realize that the investment was in him or her? What was the child lacking that made him or her think, that they weren't worthy enough to be invested in?

Regarding the latter, is how we must always view our opportunities in life; we've already been paid for and we're investments to society. As long as we keep this in mind, it should make it easier to fight against complacency and whenever fatigue sets in, your "second wind" and regrouped strength from those already passed -- should be enough to keep you going in the present...and into the future.

In taking my own advice...I press on.

Denying The Truth Within Obama's Prayer Breakfast Speech #HappyBlackHistoryMonth

As I read President Obama's Prayer Breakfast speech in it's entirety, it perplexed me how a few could concentrate only on a small part of the speech versus the speech as a whole.

After reading the President's words, I comprehended his story of faithfulness and how important it is to love one another, and humble ourselves enough to realize that we are one another and we all need each other, and that it'd behoove some of us to stop acting as if we ourselves are GOD; as some carry out acts of evil and violence while using the Lord's name in vain to do so.

There were comments stating that many Republicans were offended and pretty angry by Obama's speech, or his particular word usage in scolding the United States for falling prey to sinful acts while using God's name to justify those acts -- such as slavery and Jim Crow.

But why get so angry over something that is obviously true? History shows that what he spoke of is true, and if you don't believe it check out the newest film currently in theaters -- Selma.

How does one retain only that part of the speech without factoring in the rest, which was clearly an all-inclusive, peaceful and loving speech?

His words were said to make us all stop and look in the mirror while asking ourselves, "who am I to judge?" Who am I to look down on your religion or the lack thereof, who am I to think that I'm better than my neighbor and so much so, that I don't need to help thy neighbor? Who am I to be so cold-hearted and cruel to think I can wipe innocence off the face of the earth and not suffer consequences for it? Who am I?

Quite simply put, the President elaborated that we're all children of God -- that's who we are. And until we can all retain and sustain the humility needed to love one another, then as a result, the constant hate and fighting will ensue. It's really that simple, however, evil is very real; but as long as we continue to press on with the love and light that God provides us it will most certainly drown out the darkness.

President Obama Delivers Unapologetic SOTU Address

It's easy to think that if you've seen one SOTU address you've seen them all; over the years of the Obama presidency, I learned that this hypothetical simply wasn't true as every year seemed to get better.

This past Tuesday, Obama's sixth SOTU address was no exception as he barreled forward totally confident, in control, and unapologetic as he made all aware of his past and most recent accomplishments and his plans in building on those accomplishments.

The President touted his horn as he talked about job growth being at its fastest pace since 1999, and the unemployment rate being much lower now than during the financial crisis of 2008, the fact that more people than ever before are insured, and bragging that America is now number one in oil, gas and wind power.

Every SOTU address President Obama extends an invitation to Americans that may have a written a letter to him, or who he may have noticed doing extraordinary things in which to tie their personal story into his speech while relating to their struggles, and allowing fellow Americans the same privilege.

Rebecca and Ben's story was no different; a hardworking middle class family who made necessary sacrifices for their family and future. As the President told the couple's story of hardship, he also took the time to piggyback his final referendum for the last two years of his presidency -- using the invitees personal story, he acknowledged what would've made all the difference during their struggles if certain laws had been in place.

Laws like affordable high quality childcare that he described as a "must-have", and further reiterated that "childcare isn't a side issue or a woman's issue -- it's an economic issue."

Obama pressed on with his mantra of 43 million American workers not having access to sick leave and women still not being paid equal to men, and the fact that America needs a better minimum wage and access to quality education without a price tag attached to it, new trade deals to protect the American worker, having the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes while closing loopholes on companies that ship jobs over seas, and so on and so forth.

The lawyer inside the man was making a firm case for America's future, as votes on the television screen chimed in unanimous agreement during the majority of his speech. Furthermore, because the voting polls during the speech showed democrats, republicans, and independents agreeing with one another the majority of the time, it became that much more confusing to me as to why republicans clobbered democrats during last November's midterm elections?

Republicans in The House and in Congress remain deeply divided on Obama's past and current agenda, and is almost sure to continue giving him a difficult time passing any progressive legislation in these last two years; why did they win again?

The division within the Republican party was even more evident during the GOP response to President Obama's SOTU address, where they had not one, not two, not three, but five republican responses!

The first response was delivered by newly elected Republican Senator from Iowa, Joni Ernst (the woman's perspective?), then by Rep. Carlos Curbelo of Florida (the Spanish perspective?), then by Rep. Curt Clawson of Florida (the Tea Party perspective?), then by Rand Paul (the 2016 presidential candidate perspective?), and finally by Ted Cruz (the 2016 presidential candidate slash the "Ted Cruz" perspective?).

If the Republican party is "one" united party then why so many responses? Does the GOP really require so many different outlooks within their party instead of one solid vision? Maybe this is the reason why republicans never have a set plan in place, due to the many sides that are in constant feud? Or maybe there is one set plan in place but because it may not have mass appeal, is it necessary to give multiple versions to see how many of their constituents take the bait? And depending on how many take the bait -- ultimately that determines who the new leader of the republican party will be?

I'm beginning to confuse myself, which is probably why the GOP remain so confused. But at any rate, it's still January, which means there's a lot of time to see what direction this new congress plans on taking us.

FORMER KKK LEADER DAVID DUKE ISSUES WARNING

Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, has come out of the woods issuing a "red alert" to all politicians that they better think twice before throwing the number 3 top Republican, Steve Scalise under the bus.

Since a Louisiana blogger made all aware that Scalise indeed spoke at a David Duke campaign event in 2002, the recent news has rocked the GOP at its core coming fresh off the heels of Republican Congressman Michael Grimms' latest 20-count indictment by federal authorities for fraud, federal tax evasion, and perjury.

Although Scalise denies having any involvement with the hate group as he pleads his case that he never knew what kind of function he attended 12 years ago, it makes one wonder why White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest repeatedly commented Scalise once described himself as "David Duke without the baggage." A reporter for the New Orleans Advocate newspaper said Scalise made the remark to her as he was starting out in the Louisiana Legislature nearly 20 years ago. Scalise's office did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

It would seem that this Scalise/Duke fiasco might not go away as easily as some may think, now that this information has been made public it will only embolden more people to look into their relationship as well as other politicians ties to the two, especially those that immediately defended Scalise without having any real evidence to support their claims of him not being a racist or apart of the hate organization.

Furthermore, the latest revelations about Scalise isn't surprising in the least...actually it's as American as apple pie, but it has always made me leery about how protected our current president is while he resides in The White House, and especially as he engages with the many politicians on a daily basis. But being fearful of the known and unknown never generates progress, it's actually pushing through fear that ultimately creates change.

Not sure if it's bad to say, but I actually hope David Duke does release names of the affiliated politicians. I mean, the fact that he has Scalise's back so fiercely only makes it that much more obvious the two have a connection; only time will tell.

Hollywood Hacked

Sony, the Hollywood hub of entertainment has had quite a week regarding it's latest hack attacks on the company's email systems, leaving top producer Scott Rudin and Sony executive Amy Pascal apologizing to some of the biggest names in film.

President Obama, actors Angelina Jolie-Pitt and Leonardo Di Caprio as well as comedian/actor Kevin Hart, were all negatively targeted within the private Sony emails.

As the personal emails began making headlines even more degrading emails came pouring out, with actors Will and Jada Smith's children Willow and Jaden Smith being the next targets -- while a few of Sony's private business deals were also leaked.

During a recent run-in with Angelina Jolie -- Amy Pascal tried making nice after the recent email revelations and if looks could kill, Pascal would've dropped where she stood as Angelina glared at her with laser eyes.

Other celebrities decided to speak their peace about the latest involuntary email discoveries with writer Shonda Rhimes, tweeting out that "Calling Sony comments "racially insensitive remarks" instead of "racist"? U can put a cherry on a pile of sh*t but it don't make it a sundae."

MSNBC host of PoliticsNation Reverend Al Sharpton called the executives comments "offensive" and "insulting" as he stated, "Don't write anything you don't want broadcast in an email...everything is broadcast and published."

Even Kevin Hart posted an Instagram response to his fans about the attacks, "Knowing your self worth is extremely important people … I worked very hard to get where I am today. I look at myself as a brand and because of that I will never allow myself to be taking advantage [sic] of. I own my brand … I make smart decisions for my brand … I protect my brand … which is why I’m able to brush ignorance off of my shoulder and continue to move forward. I refuse to be broken people…with that being said its now time for me to get back to building this empire that I’ve always dreamed of."

Reverend Sharpton made a point on his show as he stated the facts about the latest 2015 Golden Globe nominations, with 64 white actors being nominated verses only 6 actors of color. Reverend Al seems to think that part of the problem in Hollywood is the lack of diversity, which was most recently and eloquently penned in an essay by comedian/actor/writer/producer Chris Rock.

Could Hollywood's diversity problem stem from the fact that it's very foundation was purposely structured to be this way?

In 1944, the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals, was formed by politically conservative members of the Hollywood film industry. Among the notable members was a Russian writer by the name of Ayn Rand, whose works are largely followed by many conservatives and especially conservatives within our American Congress. The purpose for forming this organization was politically driven -- as conservatives sought to keep "communist infiltration" out of the film industry.

For example: "communist infiltration" in Ayn Rand's opinion would've been a film about "portraying businessmen negatively"-- a common rhetoric within our 21st century Republican party, and "giving veterans collateral-free bank loans" -- as some government officials negatively label this cause as a "free ride" and/or "giveaways". Rand also found issue with films that showed one sacrificing their life to help thy neighbor, instead of devoting time strictly to one's own endeavours.

Seems kind of selfish...doesn't it? I guess it makes sense of why Ayn Rand wrote and titled a book 'The Virtue of Selfishness'?

This ideological thinking seems to be what Hollywood was constructed from, and what seems to continuously pervade the atmosphere till this day -- almost seventy years in the making. So when one hears about racism and/or a lack of diversity within Hollywood -- knowing these historical facts...should you really be all that surprised?

Does 'No Indictment' Signify A Pass To Purge?

After watching the recent events of "no indictments" unfold in the cases of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, the pattern of unjust actions almost seem intentional.

Moreover, as we delve deeper into the evidence of the two cases we discover things that we've never heard before; regarding Brown's case we now know that officer Darren Wilson was allowed to drive his police car back to base all while still handling the gun that in fact killed the now deceased victim, and was even allowed to put the gun in the evidence bag himself -- something that's totally unusual in these cases.

Since there's physical evidence (photos) that show Darren Wilson hovering over the body of Michael Brown after he was savagely gunned down, and since Wilson was allowed to handle all evidence from the scene of the crime, then wouldn't it be easier for him to tamper with the evidence? Like couldn't he have taken some of Brown's blood and smeared it inside of his police car, so that his story of Michael fighting with him inside of his vehicle seems valid?

It was also said that Wilson was able to wash blood off of his hands before being forced to go to the hospital. But if Wilson shot Brown from 35 feet away, why would he have blood on his hands?

In the case of Eric Garner whose death was ruled a homicide -- his killing received no indictment although the entire murder was caught on camera. How is one's death ruled a homicide but then the killer isn't charged with the act of killing?

Although these deaths were unwarranted we must comprehend that they happened for a reason; the pain and sacrifice of the families are obviously more than any of us could ever imagine but their deaths will not be in vain.

Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Ezell Ford, Tamir Rice, Darrien Hunt, John Crawford, Sean Bell, Amadou Diallo, Lamar Jones, and the countless others who've either lost their lives or been severely hurt by the hands of police officers who have an agenda, please know that your lives mattered and even in death they still matter.

Your names will forever be tied to a legacy of defiant change and due to your involuntary sacrifices of life, you will give new life to this nation that has risen up in a way that hasn't been seen since the 1960's.

Let's be clear; no indictment means no justice but it's also a fundamental understanding to millions of Americans that we (the human race) must stand up in the face of adversity in order to bring about the justice that we seek. No indictment also gives this country an opportunity to have a long overdue conversation about racism in America; the big "elephant" in the room.

(We) comprehend that it isn't enough to put all of our trust in a system that has constantly objectified minorities in this country for far to long, because it is the "system" that is rotten to the core. It has been allowed to reign oppressively and discriminatorily for centuries, and the recent "no indictment" actions were like pulling the band-aid off an old wound while picking at the scab "intentionally" to make it bleed.

Well, the bleeding has begun...in the form of protests, organized structures built to mobilize people to vote, and the media spending countless hours on the ground making sure that the revolution is televised.

As for when the bleeding will stop? I guess that'd be left to our adversaries to decide.

Reverend Joseph Lowery, said it best in his inaugural benediction in 2009; "Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in the back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen."

Left Brain Verses Right Brain?

President Obama signed an executive order on Immigration Reform last week in Las Vegas, Nevada, although the Republican party is staunchly against it.

However, when previous president's took the same executive actions (President Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush) -- where was the rebuttal from the Republican party then?

Did the GOP not know what kind of legislation was being passed and is the reason for not refuting? Or did they know about the legislation from past president's and decided to go along with their party because well...it's their party?

I'm just trying to make sense of why Republicans deem President Obama to be an emperor and/or king for his executive actions, but didn't label past president's as the same; or did they?

Also, let's not forget that it was Speaker of the House John Boehner's idea for President Obama to act on the border crisis/ immigration reform alone -- knowing that his party wasn't going to, so what gives? Why such hostility against the 44th President for doing exactly what previous president's have done?

The Democrat and Republican way of thinking made me want to research the inner workings of our brains -- to see which sides fall in line with liberals and conservatives; research shows that the left and right sides of the brain are indeed fundamentally different.

- The left side of the brain reportedly targets; decisive, reason, control, logic, numbers, strategy, science, realistic,

etc.

- The right side of the brain reportedly targets; intuition, love, the arts, freedom, passion, vivid, peace, creativity, etc.

It would seem that the left brain operates more or less robotically (like one that has no rhythm and is easily programmed), while the right side tends to be more fluid (like one that has all kinds of rhythm and walks to the beat of it's own drum).

Moreover, it would seem that both sides would be extraordinary if they worked together instead of being divided -- like our country's government.

Liberals seem to acknowledge both sides of the brain while conservatives appear more comfortable staying on the left-side while rebuking progressive history such as science; choosing to see things only in black and white verses a semblance of a whole.

Due to this left brain thinking, is this a reason of why Republicans constantly try to do away with the board of education and the humanities department; any form of progressive learning and art -- because it allows one to actively learn while using the art form to define oneself instead of having someone dictate to you...who you are?

And is science denied by the right-wing because facts and evidence seem to always prove a valid point, which of course means that as long we continue looking into past history with our questions it will almost certainly provide us with answers?

But I guess if the GOP's plan is to continuously blind us with false pretense, then it would behoove them to try and make us conform too strictly left brain thinking verses right; of course with some dilution.

I say all this to say, if Republicans are indeed mostly left-brain thinking, then this current governmental fight between both parties and the nation as a whole -- stands a chance of lasting longer than I thought.

GOP Trounces Democrats in Midterm Elections

The midterm election season came and went with a dry spell and as a result was less fruitful, as regressive seeds were sown in favor of the Republican party who took complete control over the Senate and kept power of the House.

It was a total tide saturation by the GOP, who sought out to conquer and control the rest of President Obama's presidential term.

But what happened? Did the Republican voter ID suppression laws work? Did the Republican redistricting maps work in their favor? Or was it low voter turnout on behalf of the Democrats? What?!

Many predicted that democratic votes would be low due to statistical facts, and it would seem that yesterday history indeed repeated itself. But with such important issues on the table such as the minimum wage, the Affordable Care Act, immigration reform, climate change, tax reform and the economy -- why would anyone choose to "sleep" during such an important election?

I'm beginning to understand why Democrats become Independents; when one gets so disgusted with showing Blue pride against it's Red opponent -- only to not be backed up by fellow Democrats who become complacent and literally fall asleep at the wheel as if life is great.

America is for the rich...period. Capitalism (or as rapper Method Man would say C.R.E.A.M.; Cash Rules Everything Around Me) is what runs this country and the people in it. If you're rich than you can play the game of monopoly and if you aren't -- if you're poor or apart of the middle class...basically you're owned. You don't control your livelihood as much as you think you do -- as you'll always have a hierarchy dictating to you where you'll live, how much you'll make in wages, whether you'll have access to affordable health care, and whether or not your children will have a bright future.

If Democrats/liberals are okay with this prospect than fine, as for me, international residency is starting to look pretty damn good.

How Liberals Make It Harder For Blacks To Succeed

Jason Riley

Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal Editorial board who joined the company in 1994 as a copy reader on the national news desk in New York, and who's also a regular Fox News contributor, spoke at the Heritage foundation about his new book How Liberals Make It Harder For Blacks To Succeed.

Mr. Riley made the comment that Black kids read half as many books and watch twice as much television as their White counterparts. He feels that part of the problem is "a culture that produces little black girls and boys who are already worried about acting and sounding white by the time they're in second grade"; this comes from an experience Riley had with his 8 year old niece who asked him "why does he talk white?"

Riley goes on to quote Bill Cosby with regards to Brown vs. Board of Education, "when you look at the black under class you see no appreciation for this sacrifice," as he spoke about black activists and pioneers that came long before us. Cosby went on to say, "What's the good of Brown v. Board of Education if nobody wants it?"

He quoted Cosby again as he argued, "it was a cop-out to blame white racism for the breakdown of the black family and other subsequent problems that we see today in the ghetto."

Taking us back to Philadelphia in 1880, Riley expressed that "75 percent of black families were comprised of two parents and children, verses 73 percent of white families. By 2007, the number would be 68 percent for whites but only 34 percent for blacks. Was there less racism in America 15 years after the end of the civil war, then there was a year before Obama was elected president? Data from every census taken between 1890 to 1940, showed the black marriage rate exceeding the white rate. So during the time of open rampant racism, the black family was in better shape then it is today. The black incarceration rate was lower than it is today and the black labor participation rate was higher than it is today."

Now, here's where the clash begins for me as Mr. Riley made his black family comparisons -- acknowledging that past history had more homes with fathers as well as incarceration rates that were lower.

We could argue that the reason why so many present black fathers existed back then, was due impart to having a different mind set; coming fresh off the backs of slave ancestors who taught their children first hand about the struggle for freedom, equality, opportunity, and how family is the foundation which makes one stronger -- is in fact a different mind set then now.

Back then there were no television programs to distract, no high rates of blacks killing blacks, and barely opportunity for a solid education which was kept from black people -- as the opposition firmly understood that knowledge equaled power. So the fundamental awareness of life and what it meant to really live, as well as being completely unified against those doing the severe oppression, makes sense of why black on black crime was low and why the black family stuck together more fiercely then now.

Breaking black families apart was a slave strategy and because blacks were subjected to this treatment time and time again, that was more the reason for families to stay bonded. So when Mr. Riley speaks of high black incarceration rates now verses back then, and using his fact that "Black boys without a father were 68 percent more likely to be incarcerated" -- we must not forget that just like tearing apart the black family was "slave strategy", that the tactic never changed it simply took on a different form; systemic racism and/or school-to-prison pipeline.

Mr. Riley then quoted President Obama's speech which was given at the historical black college Morehouse, where he openly admitted how he wished his father was present in his life even though he was raised by a single mother and grandparents. He then went on to encourage the young black male graduates to be apart of their children's lives, which is why he makes sure to do the same for his girls.

Furthermore, Mr. Riley stating that the "Black labor participation rate was higher than it is today"; yea, I bet it is was, especially since free labor was the norm before slavery was abolished. Then the reconstruction period began where more black people than ever before started their own businesses -- using their natural talents of making products and services to sell. But because black people were flourishing in business, again, staunch racism crept into the picture and it literally destroyed the reconstruction period as black people, their homes, and commercial properties were burned to the ground out of searing jealousy and hate over black progression. Once again, black people had to start over -- pulling themselves up by their boot straps with not even a boot.

What happened as a result of Black reconstruction deconstruction?

More black leaders began stepping forward in the fierce face of adversity and one in particular -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who fought for equality with regards to all races but especially the black race, who continued to experience the harsh realities of governmental corruption that gave way to institutionalized racism.

MLK was successful in getting President Johnson to pass Civil Rights legislation to which Mr. Riley, quoted LBJ from a 1965 speech (as he signed the civil rights act a year earlier and the voting rights act 2 months later) as saying "This is merely the end of the beginning (quoting Churchhill), that beginning is freedom and the barriers to that freedom are tumbling down. Freedom is the right to share, and share fully and equally in American society; to vote, to hold a job, to enter a public place, to go to school," said Johnson.

"But freedom is not enough; you do not take a person who for years have been hobbled by chains and liberate him, bring him up to the starting line of a race and then say you are free to compete with all the others, and still justly believe that you're being fair."

According to Riley, LBJ stated that the "next and profound stage for civil rights was not just freedom but opportunity, and not just equality as a right and theory, but equality as a fact and equality as a result. That's how we're going to measure whether there's equality in America -- by results."

What I found to be interesting was that although Mr. Riley admitted that liberalism is what led to the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights, which outlawed discrimination against blacks in employment, education, and ensured blacks the ability to vote -- but that he said all this as he stated how the "black unemployment rate has been twice as high as whites over the past five decades."

He then proceeded to bash President Obama for calling on federal intervention with regards to Head Start in order to help out, in his words -- "The Blacks". He continued throwing more venom at Obama for wanting to increase reading efficiency amongst minorities, while condemning him for opposing school voucher programs.

It was completely bewildering to me that despite Riley admitting that liberalism was the progressive force that brought about positive change in America, that he seemed to be looking through rose-colored glasses as to the reason of why the liberal agenda was necessary in the first place.

Mr. Riley, with the history of this country why do you think the black unemployment rate is higher than whites? Mr. Riley, why do you think it's okay for President Obama, to approve a school voucher system that only seeks to allow corporations to privatize and profit off of education and as a result, can hand pick who can be let through the school doors all while indoctrinating our children to believe solely in a capitalistic system that has driven our country into the ground?

Mr. Riley says, "What's much more disturbing to me is that half a century after the civil rights battles were fought and won, liberalism remains much more interested in making excuses for blacks than in re-evaluating efforts to help them."

He was great when quoting Fredrick Douglass in 1865, as asking "What should we do with the negro?" To which Douglass answered his own question by saying, "I have had but one answer from the beginning -- do nothing with us. If the apples will not remain on the tree with its own strength, if they are worm-eaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall -- let them fall. And if the negro can not stand on its own legs -- let him fall also. All I ask, is give him a chance to stand on his own two legs."

Riley also quoted Booker T. Washington (a former slave) as saying, "It is important and right that all privileges of the law be ours, but it is vastly important that we be prepared for the exercises of these privileges."

Again, Riley seemed to get that Douglass and Washington, comprehended that government would be a huge factor in getting blacks equal rights and protection under the law, but then blacks must learn to seize that opportunity and run with it.

But what happens to a race of people who've been trying to seize those privileges and rights over the course of centuries, only to be constantly met with discrimination, violence, and murder by the opposition who refuses to let the race of people win?

They get tired, they get broken, not only in spirit, but in the realization that any hope of trying to ever win this life's race will continuously be road blocked by those that seem to hate their very existence.

Mr. Riley ended his speech saying that, "The history of the 1960's liberal social policies is largely a history of ignoring that wisdom."

Once again I combat the latter, because it isn't about ignoring history or the wisdom of others -- only simply not knowing the history and wisdom of others, as I fully believe that if more people really knew and understood the past it would embolden them into the present, and they would firmly comprehend an old MLK quote -- "The Fierce Urgency of Now."

Has Complacency Become Our New Culture?

When horrible things happen in our states, in our cities, and local communities we become outraged. And if there's some kind of injustice taking place, we really become outraged.

Being pissed off is one thing as our emotions usually develop into negative feelings, which causes our tempers to flare up until it erupts -- however it erupts. But instead of allowing our tempers to erupt in negative ways, we should opt to let it erupt in positive ways -- progressive ways.

Nothing would piss off those causing the injustice more than the mobilization of people -- young and old, using their "people power" to oust corruption and inputting in its place those that are credible, logical, and compassionate enough to restore justice.

We all get fatigued when fighting against unfairness, but are you so tired that you're unwilling to fight for your freedoms? How about your kids and your grandchildren; are you to tired too
fight for them?

Well, I have news for you; the fighting never ends. That's right, it's a constant battle because unfortunately there are people who wish to cause others harm; some like to cause strife while others actually get paid to do it. Your suffering means a whole lot of money for specific individuals and until one can fully grasp this concept of awareness, the plight for many will continue to endure.

This is why it's so important to pay attention to presidential and midterm elections, that way you fully understand who's vying for the right to be in complete charge of your livelihood. That's right; without your cooperation and participation anybody can slip threw the cracks of The White House, and begin a project of destruction using their power to write into law -- key legislation that will either hurt you and your family directly or indirectly.

Let's look at it this way; governmental corruption comes in many forms and if you're not privy to politics and refuse to engage the electorate with your vote (your voice), then it can allow bad people with personal agendas to enter into your local offices -- therefore, teaming up with outsiders who also have personal agendas that can affect your day-to-day.

For example: every purchase that you make is from someone else and more than likely you expect your purchase to benefit you in a positive way, right? Whether it be your car, groceries, clothes, toiletries, office supplies, hair supplies, your home, health care or car insurance; anything that you can think of came from somewhere else.

Now, it's a great thing that we have access to so many wonderful products and services, but how often do you stop to ask yourself before you purchase something "Hey, I wonder if me buying this electronic...will make rich the very CEO that just paid off a member of Congress to stop my access to SNAP and/or health care?"

Or, "Hey, I wonder if me buying this candle, toilet paper, or cookware, will help to make rich the CEO that just paid off The House member in my state to remove the minimum wage requirement in order to decrease my bi-weekly pay?"

And, "Hey, I wonder if me buying this gas for my car will help make rich the CEO, who's currently working with my state senator to run an oil pipeline through my backyard, therefore, possibly contaminating the water supply that my family drinks?"

It seems like a tiresome battle doesn't it? Yes, it absolutely can be, but imagine if we didn't have people from our past to fight for the rights that we currently have now -- the battle would be even more fierce.

And because there are those that wish to turn back the clock on our rights -- is more the reason why we must stay engaged in the political process. It isn't enough to just say to ourselves that someone else can fight the battles for us, because it's all of our battles and the more "people power" that we have...the lighter the burden is on everyone.

There's enough good people in this nation to get this country back on track and guess what? We can start now...you know why? Because this is midterm election season where we get to vote in November, for the people that we trust to work for us. Most of the local government officials within your districts can be replaced, but it takes "people power" to come out in droves to the voting polls.

But don't just stop voting after presidential and midterm elections; get involved in your kids' schools and check out who's apart of the board of education. Make sure you make your voice heard with regards to your children's academics and if something doesn't seem right to you, make sure to document the issue and put the proper date and time of when you noticed the problem.

We have to start looking at our communities as ours, and that we should protect it along with the people in it. It's our right to know what's going on in our towns at every level.

Put it this way, whatever you use freely whether it's the town library, recreational facilities, fire department, police department, grocery stores, retail stores, if you rent an apartment -- anything at your disposal is grounds for investigation if you find something to be unequal or violates the law.

Be your own citizen reporters if you will -- which seemed to work well with regards to the current police brutality charges against certain crooked cops. It also helps to pay attention to your local news channels, this way you'll always be abreast of any latest developments occurring within your communities and again, if you notice something fishy don't be afraid to speak on it. Giving voice to injustice is the only way to bring about positive and progressive change.

So let's start with change by looking into who's running for your local government offices, all of this is public information and can be easily attained by looking it up on the Internet, or visit your local government offices to receive the information.

Research the candidate's credentials as well as their personal backgrounds and even chat with local neighbors to get a different perspective, and to also make sure that they're registered to vote. Once you've decided on who you'd like to vote for -- make sure to write the names down so that on election day in November, you can go to the polls ready to vote.

Remember, change starts with just one person -- you, so be the "change" that you want to see. Let the race to the polls begin!

Should President Obama Be Fearful of Ferguson Race Talks?

This past Monday, the President addressed the nation with regards to unrest in Iraq, as well as the disturbing violence that has taken form within Ferguson, Missouri.

Although the Commander-in-Chief gave a balanced response to the out-of-control situation in Ferguson, he was careful not to push the race issue to hard -- as if he was coached to know the exact temperament of the "race button."

The President claims that he'd like to wait for a complete investigation of the Michael Brown case, which the DOJ and FBI are currently conducting -- however, others feel that President Obama should say more with regards to race relations in America.

Georgetown Professor Michael E. Dyson joined The Reid Report yesterday and voiced his views to the host of the show, Joy Ann Reid.

He described how he felt the president should've addressed the nation as he stated, "Don't even talk about Michael Brown, talk about what led to Michael Brown. Tell us as a nation what happens when festering rage in a community then begins to ignite and then begins to consume not only that community -- but the people around the nation who are empathetic."

"So I think the president has a lot more latitude; does he have opposition...yes, but guess what, when he opens his mouth on Iraq he's opposed, when he opens his mouth on the environment he's opposed, when he opens his mouth on gay marriage he's opposed -- he's opposed at every step; don't use this as an excuse to not speak about race."

It would seem that Dyson would prefer for Obama to not care about the race button at all, and instead expects him to smash it all the way down...and than hit it a few more times just in case the alarm wasn't sounded loud enough. President Obama's balanced approach is understandable for sure -- but so is Professor Dyson's "ring the alarm" method.

The former Chicago, Illinois Senator may be a bit nervous to share his insight on Americas racial epidemic, for fear that as soon as he sets the flame -- it'll ignite into a mighty fire and spread outside of Ferguson and clear across the nation. He comprehends all to well that for some -- his candid rhetoric could give others permission to negatively act out, which is something I'm sure he's trying to avoid. But if not him...than who? If not now...than when?

Was MLK, JFK, RFK, LBJ, Medgar Evers, and even Abraham Lincoln who was racist but still freed all slaves -- fearful of race discussions? Maybe. But at the end of the day they did what they had to do -- in order to bring about definitive change within America. And although many of these leaders have assassination in common -- today in the 21st century things are different; there's more media and secret service coverage with regards to the first family, who's better protected than the majority of Americans.

Yes it's scary to speak truth to power, yes it's scary to take on evil while looking it straight in the eyes, and yes it's scary to enter the lion's den while standing an arms length away from its ferocious bite, but must we wait for the next president to take on this fight? Can we even guarantee that the next Commander-in-Chief will?

What if we don't get another Black president for a long time; will future president's stand up for minorities in this country?

I don't think that President Obama is asking the question of "why me?" However, I do think he may be asking himself the question "why now?"

Is Boycotting Corporations Who Take Away Your Unalienable Rights the Answer?

When thinking about "religious freedoms" with regards to the SCOTUS ruling in favor of the Hobby Lobby decision 5-4, which gives this corporation the right to choose whether or not a woman can receive reproductive preventative care through her insurance -- and recently pushing to allow corporations to openly discriminate against LGBT individuals; doesn't it make you wonder if the corporations are really following "religious freedoms" -- ie GOD, or if they're simply following themselves...who they deem to be God's?

It's quite troubling to know that a corporation can rule against a majority based on one's religion -- whether you believe in God or not. Corporations might as well hand pick their consumers to and during employee interviews, make sure to ask the interviewee what their religious preference is as well as their stance on contraception.

I mean, if a company is going to discriminate against you then they should at least be upfront about their tactics, this way you the employee can make a better employment decision that benefits and accommodates your needs.

Is it fair for corporations to cover male reproductive medication such as Viagra -- verses a woman's reproductive medication such as contraceptives?

One medication gives men the ability to have a full erection while the other, allows a woman to prevent an unwanted pregnancy and in most cases -- helps to regulate menstrual cycles. Why is one more important than the other?

Moreover, since America is a nation of immigrants who practice different faiths and have different cultures and identities, that's even more the reason why corporations shouldn't dictate to women how to handle their body parts.

But per radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, there's a simple solution for women to not need contraception and it's called "if you don't want to get pregnant, don't have sex until you want to get pregnant."

However, Limbaugh's rhetoric seems indicative of slave master's (dictators) who thought it proper to only have sex with their wives when trying to produce heirs, but thought it okay to rape women slaves as often as they wanted too. Could this be why some conservatives think that "rape" can be "legitimate"?

Ladies and gentlemen, what we are witnessing is a clash of the times -- with the majority of us living in the progressive future while a regressive minority wishes to turn back the clock...literally. And how does one turn back the clock?

By stripping away all progressive laws that were put in place to protect the American people; no laws mean no protection -- kind of like banks not having any regulation, which makes it a free for all with regards to executives of those banks.

Furthermore, when corporations and/or people use religion as a valid reason to carry out cruel and violent acts, and than prey upon ignorant civilians to help them carry out those acts, this is considered to be cowardly nonetheless and is exactly what certain corporations and supreme court justices are doing.

For example: It's a fact that most people who join gangs are simply looking for love and acceptance; someone to care for them and possibly help them with survival tools. Those tools could be food, clothes, money, weapons and/or a roof over your head, and more than likely you'll feel obligated to do whatever that person wants you to do -- therefore, loyalty to your "gang" or "crew" becomes priority. Some may call it generosity and others may call it blackmail, but either way you automatically feel indebted.

So when religious extremists garner their followers -- using Gods' name in vain for the sole purpose of committing heinous and treasonous acts, just know that the God of good, love and light, would NEVER want you to physically harm anyone or anything just because "man" told you too. There's a way to do many things and if it doesn't feel right...then it probably isn't.

On a side note: If you wish to fight back against corporations that discriminate against people, animals and mother earth, there's a right way to do it; simply boycott those corporations.

Boycotting restricts companies of constant cash flow which they need if they're going to stay in business. As Americans we must do our due diligence of paying attention to where we spend our hard earned money, because as soon as we turn our heads thinking that our boycotting practices solved all of our discriminatory problems -- new corporations will begin emerging with different names as a means of tricking us into consumerism.

So make sure to keep your eyes and ears open, otherwise, you'll continue to make rich -- the very people that are trying to take away your unalienable rights.

Have you heard about the KKK Cops?

Although certain cops being apart of criminalized gang activities isn't anything new -- especially not in this country, it does call into question police brutality, murders and random pullovers of minorities within this great nation.

People are often ignored whenever they scream out about crooked cops being racist -- and purposely targeting minorities as a "quota" verses it being a legit routine stop. But from this latest discovery I can only hope that a larger investigation will be conducted in Florida with regards to police officers, and whose team they really play on -- because it definitely doesn't seem like it's on the side of the civilian.

Furthermore, it would seem that due to the cop corruption that takes place far and wide, that this is the reason why civilians in Jersey City are praising the latest cop killer (whose name I wish not to use) that took a newly graduated police officer's life -- which of course is simply a sign of ignorance.

We can't praise a person that takes another person's life it doesn't matter who it is, other wise....what does that make us?

Border Crisis Sends Republicans Overboard

In light of the humanitarian crisis currently brewing within our nation's walls, President Obama is asking Congress to pass a bill worth $3.7 billion in order to help aid the children that have crossed the border -- fleeing from war zones within their native countries. Should congress get to work on this, or at least get to work on immigration reform?

Come on guys, if we can afford to waste taxpayer dollars without conscience on government shutdowns, the Keystone XL Pipeline that would kill our earth, unnecessary wars, Benghazi scandal probes and IRS prying, all while not passing one jobs bill, reactivating long term unemployment or renewing the SNAPS bill -- I'm sure we can handle a bill to help thy neighbors who just so happen to be many innocent and vulnerable children.

Slavery Reparations Supported in Texas?

The Raw Story reported on a Dallas, Texas, County Commissioner who was so inspired by journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates' case for reparations, that he decided to draw up a senate bill with regards to Juneteenth -- the month in which slavery was abolished.

And while he was at it he interjected in the bill, that all descendants of slaves in Texas should receive monetary reparations as a result of over 400 years of enslavement.

The bill passed with flying colors and only when the story was nationally recognized, did the opposing Texas commissioners object that they didn't read the bill in its entirety.

The piece of legislation wasn't a binding agreement unfortunately, meaning that it could be overturned at anytime, but you have to give huge kudos to Democratic Commissioner John Wiley Price, for having the cojones to write such a bill.

Will this bill spark even more calls for monetary reparations across the nation? Only time will tell.

93 Year Old Civil Rights Activist Rosanell Eaton is Fed Up with Voting Rights Violations

Yesterday on Politics Nation the Reverend Al Sharpton introduced one of the oldest civil rights activist to date, 93 year old Rosanell Eaton, who is absolutely furious that her right to vote has been violated -- again.

During the brief segment the North Carolina resident reminisced on her past experiences with fighting for the right to vote during the Jim Crow era, as she was constantly shot at and threatened for helping African Americans register to vote.

It was amazing listening and watching this woman who's a 'walking talking piece of history', explain to the public how the past has certainly become the present and in her opinion -- the present "seems much worse."

Ms. Eaton has been around since the turn of the century and her eyes could almost certainly write many books, due to the events and experiences she has encountered throughout history -- as she is a very real testament of Americas past shortcomings that still fall short today.

The fact that this extraordinary woman is still fighting for her right and ours to vote, should make us all take heed to stand up for what is right and just.

Ms. Eaton's story as well as the stories of many others will always remind me to speak out and take action, instead of remaining silent on the sidelines.

What's Next for Former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor?

House Majority leader Eric Cantor, has lost his reelection bid to tea party darling, Dave Brat.

Apparently, Mr. Cantor's loss is historical as no House Majority leader has ever lost an election to a public service newbie, but it would seem that the tea party wanted no parts of Cantor -- especially with regards to immigration reform. And yesterday, Cantor decided to resign from his post as House Majority leader, leaving his colleagues to vote for a replacement by June 19, 2014.

Being that Cantor doesn't officially leave his congressional post until January of 2015, why would he step down as House Majority leader? Did he only keep his position because he felt it was a stepping stone to become the House Speaker? Or, is he embarrassed by his defeat and would much rather sulk away from the camera's?

Moreover, now that Mr. Cantor has been ousted by his own party doesn't it make you wonder what next employment ventures await him, as most republicans that lose their jobs in Washington usually end up working for a conservative lobby and/or "think tank".

What do you think? Will he be joining his former colleague Jim Demint, over at the Heritage Fund?

Side note: As Mr. Brat makes his way to Capitol Hill next year, I can only hope that he doesn't live up to his last name. Just saying...

Liberal Feminist Activist Sarah Slamen Literally "Slays Men"

If you haven't I suggest you watch this video to get a better understanding of who she is, what she stands for, but more importantly how she's out there fighting for democratic values with an intelligence and fierceness that's sure to get you "fired up and ready to go" for the midterm elections.

Sarah held no words back on the Ed Show, as she berated Texas republicans for using racism and misogyny in order to shut up and shut out women and minorities -- with regards to Texas policy.

This young stunner is blazing a trail for women and liberals alike, and we'll probably see her heading towards Capital Hill soon enough -- once she's been elected by the state of Texas that is.

Corporations That Ship American Jobs Overseas

When corporations that reside within America, ship jobs overseas as a means of saving money; does that not bespeak to Americans that they shouldn't be able to make a livable wage?

Is it fair that American taxpayers who help to sustain corporations by paying their fair share of taxes, end up receiving the middle finger from CEO's of these companies with regards to their livelihoods?

It's as if the corporations are saying that Americans aren't good enough to work in their companies, but are only good enough to purchase their products and services rendered by people in other countries.

Why should one purchase foreign made products from American companies, when they'd rather give your job away in order to save money -- but still expect you, the American taxpayer to help keep their corporations afloat?

Americans were the laborer and the consumer, but it would seem that as of lately certain companies are structured to make Americans...consumers...only.

The newest revelation of American jobs being shipped overseas has affected LA artist's, whose musical jobs that are being transferred out of the country for a better price; but shouldn't the federal government step in to work with those whose livelihoods have been turned upside down?

Moreover, I'm not talking about unemployment because that's a given, but what if a representative from the federal government worked with those afflicted individuals to create new companies that seek to sustain one's creativity -- and/or profession within their local communities? Everybody working together to make their bad situation a good one and as a result, future generations will benefit from such positive progressiveness.

American companies taking away employment from their people doesn't always have to be a devastation, especially if there's a backup plan in place to counter the negativity -- as there are more job creators in America than actual jobs. The federal government intervening with much needed funds to partner with local entrepreneurs to create and sustain new companies, will always be the best and smartest economical solution.

"Intolerable Racism" Led Charlie Crist Away from the Republican Party

Former Florida Governor Charlie Crist, who's running for the governor's office again this year stated that the reason he chose to leave the Republican party to become a Democrat, was due to the "intolerable racism" within the GOP.

The GOP is now seen as "anti-women, anti-minority, anti-gay, anti-education, anti-environment," commented Crist as he rested his case to Fusion's Jorge Ramos, that the Republican Party's leadership had "went off a cliff."

The current Governor of Florida Scott Walker, is vying to keep his spot far away from the man that jumped ship while turning his back on republican ideology. But given the reputation of the current occupant, it would seem that Crists' chances of being elected governor of Florida again -- may not be that far out of reach.

Folks in Florida wanting to vote need to be registered by July 28, 2014, in order to vote on August 26, 2014, in the primary election. The final election is held November 4, 2014.
