As you may have noticed by the title of this post, I have chosen to close the encyclopedia of knowledge and wonderment known as A Jarbo Journal.

I started posting to this blog in 2003. Before that, I dabbled in the web since 1999. 2009 will mark 10 years of me on the internet, which may be a good or an awesome thing, which is true? I'm not sure.

But seriously this blog holds a special place for me as it holds detailed descriptions of memories and stories long gone. I've read posts that have brought a smile of special moments with friends. Accounts of my depression which make me feel better about where I am now in my life. There's a lot posted here that can bring me down to earth.

This isn't to say that I won't be posting anything in the future, in fact quite the opposite. I am condensing all things Jared into WyomingJarbo.com. In fact, head on over and check out some new design magic.

As you may recall, I haven't really posted a lot here with what I have been doing, what I'm doing currently, and what I plan on doing. While I could try to post everything, I just don't dedicate the time I should to do that anymore. But if you do want to know just email me at jared(dot)cherup(at)gmail(dot)com. Or call me up.

One of my goals in 2009 is a lot more blogging. So make sure you are subscribed to the WyomingJarbo.blog

And with that my friends, is the closing of this chapter of me. A Jarbo Journal will stay up as long as I can keep it up.

Thank you for reading, and as always. I loooove cotton.

Awesomely yours,
I feel this is the most important election for my generation. I hope everyone out there does not take this election lightly as your vote does matter, and it will shape the next 4 years to come for our country. I do have a hard time wondering how people haven't decided who they are voting for yet, however, that I will save for another day. I will be sitting by the TV tomorrow night in anticipation.

GO VOTE... OR <strike>DIE</strike> BE TICKLED BY A GIANT GROUND SLOTH WHILE EATING NOTHING BUT SAUERKRAUT FOR TWENTY SIX AND A HALF YEARS.

No More Vember

No More Vember, is actualy what November stands for, in case you didn't know.
I received an email on June 5 asking if this photo could be used in an upcoming issue of Rolling Stone magazine. Well I thought it was spam at first, but it was legit.

Anyhow my photo is the most recent issue of Rolling Stone in an article about Jimmy Buffet.

I do have news albeit bittersweet. We found a home for our cats. They will be living with Erica's Uncle, and will have the freedom of being outdoors. It was ultimately a difficult decision, and as you may know I haven't been happy with them for a while. I left the decision up to Erica a while ago. If she did not want to get rid of them, then we would keep them and deal with whatever happened.

When we got the cats forever ago, in the apartment they were fine. Cat hair was everywhere, and the litter box was always a mess but those were really givens for a cramped environment. We moved to this house in October of last year. And for the first few months, things were just fine really. The cats seemingly adjusted well. But a few months ago they started to test their boundaries in specific Emilio started to test his boundaries. We are always at work , sleeping, or away on the weekend. Emilio probably needed more attention. Anyhow, after numerous vomiting, pooping, and especially peeing coupled with various things scratched, knocked over, or peed on again, we agreed we would be better off without them.

I know that animals will be animals, and I should probably expect these things. I did feel bad punishing them for things they really can't comprehend. The couch is not a scratching post for example, I would not know that unless someone specifically told me. That's exactly why I felt we should not keep them any longer, and I think the home we found for them will be much better for their inquisitive and adventurous natures. And now they can also pee wherever they want. I remember when I could pee wherever I want, those were the days.

I do miss Emilio a bit. I admit, I liked that cat even though he was the one that also angered me the most. I guess a lot like a rebellious teenager. But I do feel a lot better not having that responsibility and anger every time the animal does something an animal would do. Jesus on the other hand, I will not miss. He was everything I hated about cats in terms of personality . Emilio was everything I liked.

So there you have it. I know that some people work these things out instead of just getting rid of them. And to be honest I'm sure there are far worse cats and pets out there in general. But I'm glad to be liberated from them. Probably like parents when they get an empty nest when the kids go off to college.

I'm sorry that you are finding out about this in a blog post, but, the opportunity to find them a home came quick and we acted fast.

I'll post about non <strike id="uo970">pee</strike> cat related thoughts hopefully later.

Springin'

Not much to report currently. Here are some videos and photos to check out.

I'm pushing a year without pop which is incredibly amazing since I was raised on the stuff. In college we had an entire mini fridge stocked with Big K soda. I haven't even drank Vanilla Coke after they brought it back. What's funny is that it's incredibly easy to avoid it now . Which leads me to start a new habit/drop an old one. I am kind of stumped though.

So for the year of 2008, what should I stop doing (or start doing), forever?

It has to be simple. For example, walking to work everyday would not be an easy task. I came across some old school papers, and some things I created while I was programming director at WMSR. I deleted them. I have no use for them, but in a way it was like deleting memories. In this digital age, it's not like they were taking up an enormous amount of space. However, I do have emails (in outlook pst files), and chat logs (created from trillian/gaim) saved from eons ago.

Do you keep documents like these on your computer? It was the first service I used to be acquired by Google. It actually brought me to love Google in many ways. However, the times have not kept up with Blogger, and even the "new" version is still behind the times. I recommend Wordpress. They have hosted, and self-hosted solutions and tons of advanced features. It's really hard to say anything. I'm fairly certain I want to change the format of this blog or get rid of it altogether. It would not be the typical cheerless posts of ole, where I whine or moan, or posting about trying to find myself or other boring material, but something else entirely. Instead of a brief rundown of the mundane events of my life, I would rather focus on current thoughts, ideas, and accomplishments. I'll elaborate on this later. But first I'll start with an obligatory section about the New Year.

I don't believe in New Year's Resolutions, but it's hard not to set goals when "it's the thing to do". I accomplish cool things but don't set goals. That way, I can never be disappointed and only impressed with myself.

Here are some things I did in 2007 that I am proud of that I never intently planned on doing but am pleased with the result:

I learned to love beer. Not just drink beer, but to appreciate it. This goes against my hatred of the expression "to acquire a taste". I guess it's sort of like wine testing. You can tell what's good, and what's horrible. But I'm not super snooty about my beer.

If chopsticks are available, I will eat with chopsticks. I forget how this came about. I guess I just thought it was cool to do it. It also helps portion the size of my bite.

I learned CSS in a matter of a few days. I also learned why it was awesome. You have to understand, I used to build web pages in Microsoft FrontPage. Now I use Adobe Dreamweaver. Additionally, I'm learning PHP currently.

I became aware of the mighty power of Resolve Dual Power. I now advocate it for anyone who has parties where people typically spill things.

I purchased a new video camera and digital camera. A Canon HV20 and Canon S3 IS respectively. The video camera was something I had desired for a while. It allows me to shoot much higher quality video, and upload it directly in a digital format instead of capturing through an encoding method. The digital camera was to replace my previous one, on which the lens broke. But I really really really want a digital SLR. I really really really want one. Of course this costs money I don't have, but I'm saving for one. I also should start taking more photographs to justify a new camera. This is one of my non-goals for 2008. *cough*.

I became a person who likes to go fishing. Not to become confused with a fishing enthusiast. I can't wait to go again.

I expanded my attendance of the performance arts. Rather… I saw Wicked, and went to concerts for Weird Al, Def Leppard, Reo Speedwagon, Styx, and Poison. (All reverse chronologically.)

I moved to a house. It's so nice to have the freedom of a house now. I have the office/study/den/studio/workshop/man cave (as Mark calls it) that I've always wanted. I also have places for tools and a place work with my tools, and place my camping gear. In the house I have also had Thanksgiving away from Grove City for the first time. I have also hosted some cool parties. I have been both lame and awesome equally. I aim to be less lame at parties going forward.

To many, these "accomplishments" are quite small. Sure climbing a mountain, traveling to Tahiti, or writing book are all great examples of accomplishments, but to me, they are greater than you may know.

If you recall this statement earlier: "Instead of a brief rundown of the mundane events of my life, I would rather focus on current thoughts, ideas, and accomplishments. I'll elaborate on this later."
I will elaborate on that statement now.

A journal/diary can be a great record of your past. Even more so if one records every detail of their waking life. Most people don't. Looking back on previous years from this blog has opened my eyes. I'm tired of sitting around not recording, or acting on my ideas or ambitions. I look back at these past years as sort of waiting around… for something to happen to me, instead of me making something happen. Well my friends. No longer. I have no announcement of some pious journey backpacking through Europe or anything (even if it would lead to me falling in love with some guy named Phillipe). This is more of a reminder to myself… Wait. I'll write the rest of this post as if I was talking to myself… GO!

Hey Jared… big guy. How you doing? Did you see that episode of Family Guy tonight? It was pretty funny wasn't it? Yeah…. (awkward pause). So remember how you and I were talking about acting on ideas and accomplishing things? You do? Great. Well I know you can do anything you want if you just give your all. That's the spirit. Now get out there and earn some oats. [END SCENE]

Woah! That was entirely awkward (and fictitious since I don't sound anything like that when I think to myself). Anyways, to wind this post down. I'm going to leave it up to the trusty comment section to decide the fate of this blog. Keep in mind I still have WyomingJarbo.blog which will cater more to geek news or "look what I made" crowd. You tell me. Should I keep a blog about me? About what's going through this crazy place called my mind? It's a scary place, I'll warn you. But my ambition is not to be optimistic, but to better myself. That would be the new focus of A Jarbo Journal.
