Every Friday I will post the "Video Of The Week" where I will share a video I came across on the web that can help in the areas of personal development, self improvement, or success.

This week's video is about failure - more specifically, the fear of failure.

This great, short clip features Brian Tracy, a self-help author who focuses on business and leadership and his seminars are routinely attended by entrepreneurs, business owners, and sales professionals.

In this video, Brian explains that failure is not the main obstacle to success - it's the fear of failure. He explains how to overcome the fear of failure and the questions you should ask yourself to conquer your fear.

The Video Of The Week: Maximizing The Power Of Your Brain - Mind Mapping

Every Friday I will begin posting the "Video Of The Week" where I will share a video I came across on the web that can help in the areas of personal development, self improvement, or success.

This week's video is a quick 5 minute video that can help you find creativity, find solutions to problems, or to simply come up with ideas.

The video features Tony Buzan, a world renown author and lecturer about how the brain functions, learning, and memory skills.

Here is the video entitled "Maximizing The Power Of Your Brain - Mind Mapping":

There were a couple of interesting points made in this video.

Tony mentions that if you simply made a list of things or a bunch of bullet point items, it doesn't do much good because the way the brain is structured, you don't have any connections or any associations with those items on the list. He mentions that if you don't have connections or associations, then you don't have thinking or memory about the items in question.

Another interesting thing he mentions is that when you do use a mind map, you should use curving lines to connect related ideas because if you used straight lines, everything will look monotonous and uniform, which makes it more difficult for things to stand out and less likely the brain remember or even want to think about what is being presented.

Tony also mentions the use of colors and images to help spur on memory, creativity, and idea creation.

The Importance Of Defining My Time

There have been days in which I had a lot to do, but as the day came to an end, I scratched my head and wondered why nothing got done and a lot of things only got partially done.

Even though I had a list of things I had wanted to get accomplished, for some reason, it took me longer to complete each task.

There is nothing worse than that feeling you get when you wanted to get so much done during the day and nothing gets accomplished.

This demonstrates the importance of defining my time.

In today's world, we are so easily and often interrupted and there is so much information overload that sometimes it can be difficult to completely focus on the things you need to get done.

If I have a loose idea of what I want to get accomplished on any given day, it all just sort of floats around in my mind. If I have only an idea of what I'd like to get accomplished on any given day, I'll often find that other things easily occupy my time and I wind up without any time left to do what I need to do.

Here is what typically happens when I don't define my time and I have a list of 4 things I want to get done:

When I start working on the first task I want to get done, I often find myself suddenly wanting to check my email or quickly check up on other blogs to see what they've posted. Sometimes I'll quickly check some stats from my site and then I'd quickly check some of my other accounts to see if there has been any other activity.

When I finally get back to what I was originally doing, an hour has passed.

So I again, start to work on the first task I set out to do but then I'll remember that I wanted to add something to the website template. Then I'd get stuck on a formatting problem on the template and I'd have to surf the web to find the solution.

When that's all done, I find that 3 hours have passed and I have yet to make a dent in my first task. Then I'd realize that time is ticking away and there are 3 other things I wanted to do before the days end, so I'd switch and start working on another task.

So you can see that when I haven't properly defined my time, the things I do are simply a mishmash of other tasks that are relatively unimportant and the end result is a lot of wasted time.

What works for me is to actually set a schedule and to make sure that you do nothing other than what you have scheduled for that block of time. If you happen to complete everything you wanted early, then great - you can now waste your time doing those other frivolous things like checking your email and surfing the web.

An important element to this is that I actually set a concrete time to start each task. Even if I tell myself I'll dedicate an hour to do this and two hours to do that, if I don't set a specific time to doing it, I'll find that I'll either lose track of time or that I'll start doing my tasks too late and end up with not enough time.

As an example, here's how a typical schedule would look like:

6:15PM-7:00PM - marketing this site (Entrecard, post submissions, directory submissions)
7:00PM-7:30PM - catch up on other blogs and bookmark/stumble accordingly
7:30PM-8:30PM - write post for this site
8:30PM-9:30PM - catch up on market news, stocks to trade, review trades
9:30PM-10:00PM - frivolous time (email, surf & stumble)!
10:00PM-10:15PM - prep lunch and dinner for the next day

If I didn't keep to this schedule, I'd find that my frivolous time would be sprinkled and inter-dispersed throughout my other tasks, making it difficult to concentrate on doing any of those tasks well and I would probably end up with several things being incomplete!

Dancing Your Relationship To A Whole New Level

Last year my wife and I took ballroom dancing lessons together.

Like most guys, I initially cringed at the idea and I was very hesitant to go along with it. All I could envision myself doing was making a fool out of myself in front of others and of having to move certain body parts in a way that I didn't feel comfortable moving (i.e. my hips and such).

At the last moment, I caved in and I was literally dragged into the first class by my wife. I looked around the room and saw that there were two or three other couples there...and a whole lot of females in the room. There were about 20 females and only about 5 guys taking the class.

The dancing instructor told us that because of the disparity between males and females, that we'd have to switch partners many times during the class. Boy, I tell you, the first 30 minutes of that first class was literally torture and I was not sure what to expect.

Fast forward three months and 10 lessons later, I can honestly say that I've never had more fun!

I have never seen my wife laugh so much as she did when taking the class as we both shared many laughs together. It was also a long while since I've seen my wife as playful as she was when we took those lessons together.

My wife and I were already quite close to each other before we took lessons, but while we were taking lessons, I felt as though we got even closer to each other (if it is at all possible).

I can also tell you that taking those lessons will definitely be a conversational topic as we both had many interesting experiences while taking those ballroom dancing lessons.

As an example, when we were learning the Tango, we had to switch partners often (again, because the lack of males in the room) and I ended up with a 70-year-old woman as a partner. However, because of the height differential (I'm about 6-feet tall, the woman must have been 4-foot something), I kept accidentally kneeing her in the crotch while dancing the Tango!

That's just one of many experiences that my wife and I had that we can share with family and friends.

Not only that, but dancing is also great exercise! During the first one or two lessons, I wore long sleeves and wool sweaters (since it was winter time), but boy was that a mistake! I don't think I can remember a time when I sweat so much!

For you single guys out there, taking ballroom dancing lessons is probably the best way to meet women! The women to men ration in these classes will definitely be in your favor and the age range of the participants were broad.

So if you want to take your relationship with your significant other to a whole new level, try taking ballroom dancing lessons together - you'll share some unforgettable experiences along with moments that'll make you laugh.

Stop Thinking About The Money And Focus On What You're Doing!

It's easy have positive attitude and think about money all the time, but real life doesn't work that way.

This is probably the reason why so many people fail to actually manifest money they think they deserve. It does no good to sit on the couch all day and think about the riches you will one day come across and expect all that money to somehow find you and land in your lap.

Instead you should focus on the task at hand and what you are doing right now - the task at hand hopefully moves you forward towards the money you so much desire.

I see this happen to myself all the time when I'm trading and I've had it happen to me time and time again that I sometimes wonder if I will ever learn my lesson.

You see, there were some days I wake and say to myself "Today I'm going to make lots of money! I'm going to make $1000 or $2000 today without a doubt!". On those days, I keep this attitude and all I see are dollar signs in my eyes and I think to myself that it will somehow find me today.

So what usually ends up happening when I have this attitude?

I almost always end up losing money!

Why?

It's because I end up forcing myself to take action and taking trades that I shouldn't - all I could think about was the 1000s of dollars waiting for me at the end of the day. In fact, there were some days that were going good, but in the end I'd lose it all because I'd force myself to take on more trades to reach my target.

However, some of my best trading days were the ones in which I focused completely on what I was doing - waiting for a great trade, having the patience, and executing my trades. On almost all my best trading days, I never intended to make a certain amount of money - instead I just told myself I'd focus on trading well and nothing else.

The really good days are those days that I least expected it because I focused on what I was doing and money inevitably followed.

The same should hold true in whatever it is you are doing. If all you're doing is thinking about money all the time, it isn't going to help you if you don't focus your attention on how you're going to get it.

If you have the mentality that money is all you're after, you will soon find yourself taking unnecessary or unwarranted action that will get you nowhere near your goals.

Think about all those seminars that promise riches and tons of money. Whether they are real estate seminars, trading seminars, or online business seminars - many millions of people attend these seminars every year, many paying high sums of money just to attend them.

What ends up happening?

The vast majority never end up fulfilling their dreams of riches because most of them focused on the money they would be making instead of focusing on the business that would help them get there. The end result is that many will end up losing money (i.e. investing in the business or taking seminars).

From my experience, I would definitely have to say that if you focus on what you love (in my case, trading) and on the task at hand, then and money will follow. The key is trying not to force that money to come, or you'll end up like me and wind up losing money!

The Strange Thing About Worry

Over the last few years, I have noticed an interesting thing about worry.

There have been many instances in my life in which I had to attend an event or social gathering that I wasn't really in the mood for. I'd wake up on that particular day and start worrying about how my appearance would be, what I'd talk about, what others would think about me.

As the event slowly approached, I'd start to worry even more and for the whole day leading up to the event, it would consume my thoughts. All those worrying thoughts eventually led to nervousness and for the whole day, I'd just feel downright uncomfortable.

And what would end up happening?

I'd end up not having a good time. All those thoughts would keep me on guard for the whole event/dinner/gathering that I just couldn't concentrate on anything else other than those worrying thoughts.

Even if the event went smoothly, I'd still end the night with the thought that it didn't go as well as planned. It was almost as if all my worries came into fruition.

The same thing happens if I worried about forgetting something. There have been times where we've prepared for a dinner party or a picnic with friends and I was constantly worried that I'd forget something. I'd go over our plans many times and recited the list of items I needed, but I still worried that I'd forget to bring something.

And wouldn't you know it...there was always something that was forgotten (often times it would be the most obvious of items like bringing utensils to a picnic).

So here's the strange thing : whenever there has been an event I had to attend that I dreaded and I didn't spend any time worrying about it, I'd end up having a fantastic time!

You know what you can do to get over your concerns about attending something you're not looking forward to?

Recently I started telling myself that I was going to have a fun time and even though I didn't feel like attending the function at all, I'd end up having the time of my life!

I guess it really goes to show you the power of the mind and how much of an impact your mindset can have on your life.

Taking The Next Step In My Career

The reason for my lack of posting the last two weeks was because of some of the steps I was taking to further my career goals.

I had been working at a particular prop trading company for the past 3 and a half years and at the beginning of March, I switched to a new company (for those who forget what I do, check out this post).

Why did I decide to make the switch?

Well, for the past year or so, I felt that the environment and the people around me just seem to slowly decay and by the beginning of 2008, I felt as though everything around me was literally falling apart.

Management kept changing, traders kept coming and leaving, the people around me grew cold and distant, and branch managers who had recently opened up new branches started closing them down.

Not only that, but the trading system that we used at that company started having frequent failures - some days it would be down for 30 minutes, other times it would be down for the whole day.

On New Year's Day 2008, I told myself that this year would be the best year I've ever had. But with all these constant failures and management changes at the company, I felt as though the Universe was telling me something.

After several days in a row of downtime, I decided that it was time to move on and to begin searching for a new company to trade for.

On literally the same day I decided to change companies, I happen to meet up with someone who had a friend working at another similar company. The timing couldn't have been better! I made contact with this new company, met with their management and they accepted me with open arms.

I really couldn't believe how quickly everything fell into place! Everything was setup for me to make the move within 2 days of making my decision to change companies! It was almost as if the Universe wanted me to make this move!

I have been at this new company since the beginning of March and I can tell you it's been such a world of difference for the better!

Things have been very smooth since I've started there. Not only is my compensation doubled, but the system is very stable and the overall fees are lower. On top of that, this company allows people to do remote trading - in other words, trade from home!

The setup is the same as my previous company in that I don't have to use my own money to trade - instead I trade the company's money, so there's no risk to me. Even now, I still feel excited and happy that I made the switch - it almost feels as though I am reborn again.

Everything now seems like it's in place and hopefully it will be business as usual again at this site. Once I do begin trading from home, I will have a lot more extra time that I can dedicate to this site.

It's just one step closer to living the life of my dreams...

Imagine If We All Lived In A Perfect World

Imagine, for a minute, if we all lived in a perfect world. Imagine if we got the house we wanted, the car we wanted and that money would just come into our possession whenever we wanted it.

Also imagine that we all got to do whatever it was we love to do for a living and that it would pay vast sums of money without any of us having to try really hard to get it.

Imagine we could also go anywhere we wanted and visit all the places of the world with ease.

Wouldn't that kind of world be great to live in?

Or would it.....

Think real hard about it for a minute. If we somehow got everything we ever wanted and everything happens to fall into place for you, what kind of life would that be?

In a perfect world, there would be no challenge, no sense of accomplishment and there would be no such thing as success. In a perfect world there would be no motivation to do anything, no sense of purpose in life, and there would be no sense of fun.

In short, life would be boring.

It's kind of like playing your favorite game where you always win or playing your favorite video game with cheat mode on. Sure it may be fun at first, but then after a while you'll start getting bored. Now imagine having to play this game every day. You'd get bored to tears after playing this game for several years (if not weeks, days or even hours).

In a perfect world, you'd run out of places to go, get tired of the cars you drive and you'll start struggling to think of things to do.

This is probably the reason why so many successful entrepreneurs who sell their businesses for many millions of dollars eventually find themselves back to work again.

These entrepreneurs started their businesses so that they could live in a perfect world and for a time, they enjoyed it, but in the end, they got bored and eventually went back to work (even though they didn't have to).

I am reminded of the movie The Matrix when Neo meets "The Architect". In the movie, "The Architect" tells Neo that the 1st version of the Matrix was created to be a perfect world - that it would give the people whatever they wanted. However, that first version of the Matrix ended in chaos as the people within it just couldn't accept it, which is something I believe would happen in the real world.

In the real world, our lives are full of obstacles, but we should consider these obstacles as things that make are lives more interesting. Consider these obstacles as challenges and it's totally up to you to overcome them. You will find that these challenges will often help you find your life's purpose.
