This is an old melody I used to listen to .
It was about this woman trying to sell her bagels. I think the woman singing should have been younger, for the song to make sense but what ever lol.

She asked for people to take pity on her because her Dad was a drunk, her mother a whore and her sister a street walker and she was herself a smoker trying to earn an honest living.
So bring your rubles for a hot bagel for tea,She'd sing.

I can picture someone doing this during or after bad times when jobs are hard to come by.I watched the World War 2 series last night and gosh was it ever a stinking war. So many people died and Europe was completely destroyed.
All this for nothing because of a few insane and stupid men. I learned that Hitler had Parkinsons in the end. Goebbels' his propoganda Minister, had 6 beautiful children. His wife killed them all when they lost the war and then they killed themselves and Hitler shot himself in the head.

After telling her story, I would be wondering where these bublichki came from lol
I can see them being steamed out on the street like the peddler does with his hot dogs and chestnuts on the streets of New York city but then I don't think this happened back then.

From this script she shows that it is not only bagels she is selling under her cape.

I have been watching cooking shows and I can't imagine how much work is put into some of these dishes.
The amount of work some of these chefs do is incredible.

We the public, sit and enjoying flavors, having no idea how much creative work is put in to them.

I love chops sticks.
I love collecting and eating with them.

They are a lot of fun and I always remember Mr Miyagi on the Karate Kid,who caught flies with them.

Some Chinese traditions are worth keeping although I did read some people complain about how many trees are destroyed supplying all these chopsticks to restaurants.

Since I have been knitting and these chop sticks were lying beside me, I thought, what if I did put the other end into a pencil sharpener?
Would I get double pointed needles I could knit with?
The more you use the wood the easier it becomes to knit, as the wood becomes slippery

Well now I have an idea on how to recycle chop sticks.
Next time you eat with them, take them home and sharpen them and give them as a gift to a knitter.

Or you can collect them and use them for projects instead of bamboo sticks..
Use them to build bird houses, cages, cup holders ...
Such a wide variety of things can be created using these nice little pieces of wood.

I have always loved Pat Boones' song Anastasia
It's almost like Nat King Coles' Mona Lisa.

Special names and special lady's.

2 balls of wool made a pair of socks and a pair of mittens and I still have left overs.

Now I learned how to do both and it wasn't as scary as it looked to make. lol

February is just flying by and before we know it it will be gone.

I have always wanted to try doing something like tbhis to see if it would work out.
It's a nice way to recycle cardboard and with a bit of paint it would make for great items for a childs room which is easily thrown out at a much later date.

The captcha letters are not on some blogs so I can't comment on them.

Water is the best to help flush the toxins out of your body.
However there is a correct time to drink water.

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its
effectiveness on the body:
-- 2 glasses of water after waking up helps activate
internal organs
-- 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal helps
digestion
-- 1 glass of water before taking a bath helps lower
blood pressure
-- 1 glass of water before going to bed avoids stroke
or heart attack

Water at bed time will
also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg
muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and
wake you up with a Charlie Horse

My Grandmother did similar work but hers were much more beautiful
They had more colors in the petals and leaves blending into each other .

Using thin silk thread , all her work, seemed to look delicate and have a sheen to it.
I have yet to come across anything like it. She never made me a present of any of her work.
I would have loved it.
She was not that great at knitting because she had no patterns to follow to learn stitches, but she did make a few scarves and I still treasure them because it was her hands which made them.
I am not sure I could ever emulate my Grammas' embroidery work .
She was slow and meticulous.

I still remember her making sewing patterns. She'd sometimes scratch her head and explain to me why things had to be done they way they were done. If you'd ask her a question she'd contemplate, by putting her head sideways back and forth, giving her answer as if she were learning it too for the very first time. Her eyebrows would lift as if she was surprised I asked such questions lol
She tried teaching my Mom but my Mom couldn't learn. My Mom was into cooking, which they were not. I also am not a good cook lol Just the cleaning before and after the cooking is enough to make me think, why do I need all this mess?

My aunt learned from her and they both made some pretty nice stuff.
I learned from them lol
I don't know why I didn't continue.
I think cause it was because after a few jobs, I had a lot of pin pricks in my finger tips lol
In the end both my Gramma and Aunt told my Mom I had golden hands. What ever I did, it always came out.
This was a nice compliment to me, coming from the two of them.

I think I'd like to try the cross stitch pictures they sell to frame. They should not be very hard to do.
I have two boys so always think about doing things in two's and threes just in case they want anything when I am gone to remember me by.

More projects to think about while finishing my second sockette.

Cardboard Tip #3

If you're gardening in a weedy area, lay sheets of cardboard over the area. Wet the cardboard thoroughly, then spread 2-3 inches of organic material, followed by gardening soil. Wait about 2 weeks for any grass or weeds to die, then plant.

This is my first attempt at making a sockette with a heel.

Usually I make thick tube socks for winter to sit beside the fireplace
which are much easier to do.

But now I know how easy it is and quick to make sockettes.

Oh I know , they are a dime a dozen at the store but these are thick and handmade and have 20% wool in them.
It's something to do at night watching TV.

So why not?
I can make a ton of them for Christmas and then just think about how to decorate them, embroider names, that kind of thing.

I still would like to make a few embroidery projects.
I remember my grandmother making such beautiful embroidered pillow cases
with roses and such. Today its simple. They sell you printed patterns to follow.
She just had an outline and hade to do the shading part inside on her own.
They also used silk thread which is hard to get nowadays.
Oh well.

I sent an Angel to watch over you last night.
It came back.
I asked it why?
It said Angels don't watch over angels.

Keep your eye on Waukesha, Wisconsin ......Its biggest employer just moved

out. I got this in an email so I'm passing it on.

which country he was supposed to be creating those jobs.

If this doesn't show you the total lack of leadership of this President, I
don't know what does. Soon, you all will understand that Obama has an
agenda, this socialist agenda is to remove the last super power from the
world. He is getting very close.

Old Pike

Pike is a fun fish to catch. It puts up a nice fight and sometimes it sits very still to make you think you lost it. But once you lift it up out of the water it is a display of shear beauty.

My Dad would cut the skin around the gills and skin it with pliers.
My Mom would then debone the meat and put it through the grinder.
Of course the entrails were disposed of.
(She learned from her turkey experience. lol)
I am not sure if she added any bread crumbs or eggs but eventually she got what we'd call great minced meat which she re stuffed the fish with . She sewed the head back on and put it on its' stomach to bake.
Once the fish finished baking she took out this amazing curved fish with jagged teeth still looking as if it was ready for a good fight. It made such a beautiful addition to the table when she served it.
We always loved to watch the look on our guests faces when we would ask them if they would like some fish.
First they would all think : Oh God! This will have many bones, which usually it does. lol
But my Mom would cut it in slices and serve it like a meat loaf and they couldn't believe what they saw.
Immediately they would ask what kind of fish this was and this is when my Parents began with the tall tales of this special fish that had no bones, they catch in the river.

Every one was interested to catch a fish like that once they were through with them. lol
No one would know anymore what kind of fish it was.
lol

Yes Pike were such good fish. Sometimes my Mom would jelly it and sometimes she would marinate it in vinegar and pickling spices. It was delicious no matter how you made it.
She never gave away her recipes.
Today I don't know if we can eat pike from the river but it almost makes you want to have a pool to raise this fish. Pike and trout are my two favorite kinds of fish. Of course we ate a lot of perch as well.
They are pretty good too.

When I was in Miami we usually saw barracuda swimming between our feet. They also have
spots on them like Pike do, so I never thought much about it thinking they were ocean Pike.
Needless to say, I was surprised to find, the huge monstrousities, lying at the bottom of 4 feet of water, were indeed Barracuda which attack for no reason.
They never touched any of us and we swam with them all the time.
Apparently they don't like the taste of white people, so they never bite them lol

I don't know if this is a compliment or an insult but I
if it's an insult, I'll take it as a compliment lol

In British Columbia they have so many fishing laws and restrictions, so we would go to the fish farms to fish. There was one in Abbotsford we loved going to. The man would obtain little fish fries, about 10,000 of them. He would raise them in one tank and as they grew he would change tanks, actually cement pools, until they were ready to dump into this pond he had.
He had lots of fish in there.
At feeding time he would come out and say: Watch this.
He would whistle and a ton of trout would rush to the top of the pond and some would jump out out of the water to the delight of the kids.
They were huge, fat and juicy. Some were reddish in color, ready for mating.
We would be so surprised the fish knew him and even saw him coming without whistling.
Surprising how well fish see in water.
He would then throw them grain and they would go into a frenzy trying to eat up.

It was fun for us to fish there because we required no license and we would catch fish fairly quickly. We would pay him and take our fish home. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon with the kids.

Different Palettes.

I first tasted fish burgers in Hawaii made out of mahi mahi fish.
They were delicious.

Lately I have been trying to make some thing different because the same is always boring.

I didn't have mahi mahi fish, but it looks something like the fish below. lol made much smaller.

What I did have was bass fillets so I put them in a batter made up of flour, bread crumbs, pinch of salt,baking soda , 1 egg, and water made to the consistency of blintzi batter.
I dipped the fish into this and fried them They came out truly wonderful. We ate . The leftovers went into sandwiches with left over cous cous salad and boy were they good.!!
I think even steamed fillets of bass would make great sandwiches for dieters.

Then my husband who loves tahina took a few spoonfuls and mixed it with mollasses.
When he got the consistency and flavour he wanted, he put some on bread and to my surprise it truly tasted like nutella.
Tahina is just plain mashed sesame seeds. We use it to make humous. Nothing like home made humous. We add a lot of garlic to it and it's great with salads and bread.

Then we got some large pork chops.
Instead of frying it in a pan I cut them into rib like pieces. Then I covered them with honey, garlic, soy,hot sauce.......added a few cups of water in a baking pan and put it in on 350 degrees.
The result was the best pork ribs ever except without the bones and mess.
The meat was so tender and I got a lot of compliments on it.

I like cooking with soy especially with left over rice and noodles.
I fry onions and garlic then I put them into a dish of noodles or rice.
I add a bit of soy and a handful of frozen veggies and put them into the micro for 3 minutes.I added some soup juice from another pot I was cooking.
This makes for great left over lunches and snacks.
With my hungry guys who come in and want everything yesterday, its convenient to have leftovers.

Today I chopped up some of yesterdays' unused defrosted pork and fried it with garlic and onions.
I added the eggplant , tomato, broccoli, with two cups water, soy hot sauce.
I let it steam and the juice was great for the above macaroni dish and it's making a great dish for supper tonight. Now I have to decide if its to be eaten with rice, noodles or baked potato with
sour cream. With my guys they will want either rice of noodles.

I also love making Russian Caviar from eggplants.
You bake an eggplant. Then skin it. The insides you chop up and put into a pan with some olive oil. You add chopped tomatoes,shredded carrots chopped onions and garlic.
You steam all the ingredients adding black pepper , lemon juice and whatever else you'd like as spices for flavour.

The result is everything melting into each other and you end up with a spread that is good to eat cold with bread or crackers or as a condiment with a meat dish.
I love this spread and can't get enough of it. It's also very healthy.
My Mom used to make tons of it since she had a garden and then put it into jars.
We had enough for the whole winter, to eat every day.
As you can see Garlic and onions are my favorite ingredients.
Without them it's just not food.

It's amazing how the same products can be changed just by using different spices.

Lately I love cayenne and paprika for health reasons.
I also use cloves and cinnamon a lot for the same reason.

Of course if you love real caviar, all that is , is taking fish eggs and putting some salt over them for a few days.
Then you can take a round loaf of bread cut off the top part, pull out the interior bread to put on the side, mix the eggs in sour creme which you then fill the empty cavity of the bread with.
Then you dip bread into the sour creme and caviar or use a spoon to put some into a plate which then you dip your bread or cracker in.
Some people don't like fish eggs but I love them.
I also like fresh fish eggs fried, like regular eggs. They taste so good.

The third thing I had a craving for was French onion soup. Good ol fashioned onion bouillon in a bowl with toast and covered with cheese baked in the oven.

He walked into his house wearing them and saw his wife and her companion sitting on the
divan nude.
He took off his glasses and they were still nude.
He put on his glasses they were nude, he took them off and they were nude.

He got mad and threw the glasses into the garbage saying :
Piece of junk. They didn't even work for a day.

There comes a time when a woman just has to trust her husband... for example...

A wife comes home late at night and quietly opens the door to her bedroom.
From under the blanket she sees four legs instead of two. She reaches for a baseball bat and starts hitting the blanket as hard as she can. Once she's done, she goes to the kitchen to have a drink.
As she enters, she sees her husband there, reading a magazine. "Hi Darling", he says, "Your parents have come to visit us, so l let them stay in our bedroom. Did you say hello?

A Mexican woodpecker and a Canadian woodpecker were in
Mexico arguing about which country had the toughest trees.

The Mexican woodpecker claimed Mexico had a tree that no
woodpecker could peck.
The Canadian woodpecker accepted his challenge and promptly
pecked a hole in the tree with no problem.
The Mexican woodpecker was amazed.

The Canadian woodpecker then challenged the Mexican
woodpecker to peck a tree in Canada that was absolutely
'impeccable' (a term frequently used by woodpeckers).

The Mexican woodpecker expressed confidence that he
could do it and accepted the challenge.

The two of them flew to Canada where the Mexican
woodpecker successfully pecked the so-called 'impeccable'
tree almost without breaking a sweat.
Both woodpeckers were now terribly confused.
How is it that the Canadian woodpecker was able
to peck the Mexican tree, and the Mexican
woodpecker was able to peck the Canadian tree,
yet neither was able to peck the tree in their own country?

After much woodpecker pondering, they both
came to the same conclusion. Apparently, Tiger
Woods was right, when he said, 'Your pecker gets
harder when you're away from home!'

I guess people always speak about pleasuring themselves through sex, drugs, booze and material things etc... but pleasure is a limitation and does not free you from misery. It is just another thing that bogs your soul down, if you do not obtain it.
Spiritual freedom every one can understand and create within themselves and easily replaces the word pleasure,
with the word joy.
Joy doesn't have to appeal to pleasure .
You can experience joy without limiting yourself to the above pleasures.
To live life drunk with joy, is truly surpassing ones' limitations because you thrive on your own life energy.
That's a powerful thing.

These are not real flowers I am writing about but the spaces between the leaves which let through living energy to touch everything down below in shady areas.
These flowers never die because we have both deciduous trees and evergreens trees and oak with marcescent leaves.
So external life energy is always there to reach and rejuvenate your life energy.

Queen Nyteshade had two claims to fame. She could tell fortunes and she was a midget. The local authorities frowned on her because they thought that fortune telling was fraudulent. They had Queeny arrested. She was placed in a holding cell. Since she was so small she was able to squeeze between the bars of her cell and escape. This to incensed the judge that he ordered the local newspaper to print an article about the culprit.

The following was printed in the paper the next day.

Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.

Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospitals, dying of nothing.

All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

Egyptian police fired tear gas Thursday at thousands of demonstrators outside the Interior Ministry protesting the security forces' failure to prevent a soccer riot that killed more than 70 people.

Anger has been building as the public and lawmakers blamed the country's military rulers for the bloodshed, the latest to signal rapidly deteriorating security in the country since Hosni Mubarak's fall nearly a year ago.

The protests started as a peaceful march by Egyptians angry over the police inaction from the headquarters of Al-Ahly, one of Egypt's most popular soccer clubs, to the area outside the ministry building near Tahrir Square, the epicentre of last year's popular uprising that ousted Mubarak.

Security forces guarding the area were separated from the more than 10,000 protesters by concrete blocs and barbed wire, but tensions rose as protesters advanced toward them, cursing and removing some of the barriers. They also raised their shoes in the air and hurled stones. Police responded with heavy tear gas, sending demonstrators running, with some passing out a

Some tried to move big concrete blocs erected around the ministry since November, when clashes between the police and protesters then left more than 40 people dead.

In scenes reminiscent of those clashes, protesters set tires on fire, sending black smoke in the air. Motorcycle drivers ferried some of those wounded from the site as ambulances were unable to get through. Egyptian state TV said 100 people had passed out from the tear gas.

The Interior Ministry said in a statement the protesters had cut the barbed wire, and crossed over the concrete blocs to reach the roads leading to the headquarters. It urged the protesters "to listen to the sound of wisdom ... at these critical moments" to prevent the spread of chaos.

Wednesday's riot at the stadium in Port Said erupted when Al-Masry fans stormed the field following a rare 3-1 win against Al-Ahly, one of Egypt's most popular clubs, but the violence went beyond the deep sports rivalry between the teams.

A network of rabid soccer fans known as Ultras vowed vengeance, accusing the police of intentionally letting rivals attack them because they have been at the forefront of protests over the past year, first against Mubarak and now the military.

Many members of die-hard soccer fans who were among the protesters vowed to storm the ministry.

"Either they (police) will die or we will die," said Islam, a member of the Ultras, said. "We are willing to die for the blood of martyrs."

He declined to give his last name because of the volatility of the situation.

Port Said governor, area police chief resign

Earlier Thursday, Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri, in an emergency parliamentary session, announced he has dissolved the Egyptian Soccer Federation's board and referred its members for questioning by prosecutors about the violence. He also said the governor of Port Said province and the area's police chief have resigned.

Several lawmakers said the lapse was intentional, aimed at stoking the country's insecurity since the Feb. 11 fall of former leader Hosni Mubarak.

In an emergency session, Parliament Speaker Saad el-Katatni, of the Muslim Brotherhood, accused security authorities of hesitating to act, putting "the revolution in danger."

"This is a complete crime," said Abbas Mekhimar, head of parliament's defense committee. "This is part of the scenario of fueling chaos against Egypt."

The riot at the stadium in Port Said erupted Wednesday when fans of the local team, Al-Masry, stormed the field following a rare 3-1 win against Al-Ahly.

Al-Masry supporters, armed with knives, sticks and stones, chased Al-Ahly players and fans, who ran toward the exits and up the stands to escape, according to witnesses.

Lines of riot police in the stadium largely did nothing to intervene, witnesses said. At one point, the stadium lights went out, plunging it into darkness. At the time, the TV sportscaster announcing the match said authorities shut them off to "calm the situation."

"We were surprised the police let them in that easy. The numbers were huge," said Ahmed Ghaffar, one of the visiting Al-Ahly fans at the stadium.

Left 'to kill each other'

As many Al-Ahly fans crowded into the corridor leading out of the stadium, they were trapped, with the doors at the other end locked.

"Layers of people" were "stuck over each other because there was no other exit," Ghaffar tweeted on Thursday. "We were between two choices, either death coming from behind us, or the closed doors."

He said Al-Masry fans beat Al-Ahly fans who fell on the floor.

Mahmoud Ibrahim, 22, a survivor who on Thursday was at a Cairo morgue where two of his dead friends were taken, said that after the lights went out, people were left "to kill each other."

The Interior Ministry said 74 people died, including one police officer, and 248 were injured, 14 of them police. A local health official initially said 1,000 people were injured and it was not clear how severely. Security forces arrested 47 people for involvement in the violence, the statement said.
