The “Unhackable” Xbox One Finally Falls: Bliss Exploit Breaks a 13-Year Streak

When Microsoft launched the Xbox One back in 2013, they didn’t hold back on the hype: this was supposedly one of the most secure products they had ever built. For over a decade, the original “fat” Xbox One held firm—no public hacks, no jailbreaks, nothing. While the Xbox 360 fell relatively quickly to the famous Reset Glitch Hack (RGH), the Xbox One earned a near-mythical reputation as truly “unhackable.” Microsoft engineers even boasted about it years later. That iron curtain stood tall… until now.

At the RE//verse 2026 reverse-engineering conference, security researcher Markus ‘Doom’ Gaasedelen unveiled Bliss—the first full-chain exploit that compromises the Xbox One from the silicon-level boot ROM onward. This allows execution of unsigned code at every privilege level, including the hypervisor and operating system.

Unlike software vulnerabilities, Bliss is a pure hardware attack using voltage glitching (VGH). Gaasedelen employed a clever double-glitch technique:

The first glitch bypasses the ARM Cortex memory protection setup loop.
The second targets a precise moment during a Memcpy operation in the header verification, letting execution jump to attacker-controlled code.

Because the attack hits the immutable boot ROM burned directly into the hardware (not updatable via firmware patches), this exploit is permanently unpatchable by Microsoft. It’s the Xbox One equivalent of the RGH on the 360, but against far more advanced defenses.

What does this actually unlock? Full system compromise opens the door to:

Complete decryption of games, firmware, and other locked content.
Running custom homebrew and unsigned code.
Potential future development of automated mod chips (“Bliss-a-like”) that handle the precise electrical glitching without manual intervention.

For the game preservation and digital archiving community, this is huge: archivists and researchers now have deep access to a console that was previously sealed shut. That said, since most Xbox One titles are already playable (and often in better quality) on PC or later consoles, we probably won’t see a massive emulation rush.

Gaasedelen’s achievement is the result of years of persistence—he even had to build custom hardware introspection tools just to “see” what was happening inside the console during boot. After 13 years of holding the line, the original Xbox One has finally been cracked. A testament to both Microsoft’s engineering and the incredible skill of the reverse-engineering community.

AirPods Max 2 coming soon: Here’s what to expect

Apple’s big lineup for this fall is nearly ready for launch. The iPhone 16 event is only weeks away, and there’s a long-awaited product likely to make an appearance: AirPods Max 2. Historically, Apple prefers launching new AirPods products at its September events, so the wait for AirPods Max 2 should be over soon. Here’s what to expect from the new AirPods Max 2.

New chip with powerful audio features

Even though the current AirPods Max carry a premium price tag, they’re lacking a lot of features found in the much more affordable AirPods Pro 2.

That’s set to change with the AirPods Max 2.

AirPods Max 2 are expected to receive a new chip, likely the H2 found in the current AirPods Pro 2.

This H2 chip will enable AirPods Max users to experience powerful new audio features currently exclusive to the Pro line. These include:

Adaptive Audio, which dynamically blends Transparency and Noise Cancellation modes in response to your environment
Conversation Awareness, which automatically lowers volume and isolates voices in response to detected speaking
Personalized Volume, which adjusts the volume of media in response to your environment

Additionally, iOS 18 introduces several more new features to AirPods Pro 2, and with the H2 they should all come to AirPods Max 2 as well:

The ability to nod or shake your head to respond to Siri
Voice Isolation when you’re on a call
Gaming-specific enhancements to Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking

Often, a new chip doesn’t provide many reasons for excitement. Especially when you’re talking about headphones.

But as the feature lists above show, the addition of the H2 chip to AirPods Max 2 will make a world of difference. These features are a big reason why I love my AirPods Pro 2. I expect they’ll provide a compelling reason for AirPods Max users to upgrade.

USB-C charging

Another compelling reason to upgrade: a USB-C port.

Following Apple’s years-long shift to a new universal port standard, AirPods Max 2 will replace the existing Lightning port and adopt USB-C for charging.

The same change is expected to happen with the new AirPods 4, which are also likely to launch at the iPhone 16 event next month. The first AirPods product to receive USB-C charging was the AirPods Pro 2, which made the switch last fall.

It’s slow progress, but with USB-C coming to the AirPods Max, we’re officially one step closer to the dream of an all-USB-C life.

New colors

Apple is planning to introduce a variety of new color options for the AirPods Max 2.

Currently, the first-gen AirPods Max come in five colors:

Space Gray
Pink
Green
Silver
Sky Blue

There’s no word on what exactly the new color lineup will be. However, we should expect to see a similar number of options with AirPods Max 2.

AirPods Max launched in 2020, and since then colors like Midnight and Starlight have been mainstays for Apple. So it’s likely we’ll see colors along those lines with the AirPods Max 2.

Replacement for the Smart Case

To be clear, this one is mostly speculation. There’s been no clear rumor about Apple replacing the AirPods Max’s Smart Case—though this patent is something.

But surely four years is long enough for Apple to come up with a better, hopefully more protective case for AirPods Max users.

The original Smart Case was one of the main points of criticism for Apple’s first AirPods Max, so I think it’s likely we’ll see a new case with the AirPods Max 2.

If I had to bet, though, I suspect the existing Smart Case design might stick around, while a sturdier case launches as an optional accessory. That way, Apple makes more money, and it also provides owners of the original AirPods Max the chance to buy it.

The included case also depends a lot on AirPods Max 2’s price…

Unknown: price point

The original AirPods Max debuted at a high premium of $549. These days, you can often grab them at a discount (currently $429 on Amazon). But the arrival of competing options raises the question of whether Apple will charge just as much for the AirPods Max 2.

Apple’s comparable Beats Studio Pro retail for $329 and are currently just $199 on Amazon. The recent-arrival Sonos Ace headphones retail for $449 and can currently be bought for $399.

Can Apple really continue charging $549 for its AirPods Max? My long history with Apple products unfortunately says ‘yes,’ but I hope at least a slight price drop is coming.

Ten Apple products that’ll likely be discontinued next month

Apple’s annual iPhone event is expected to be held as soon as September 10th, where we’ll see iPhone 16, new AirPods, some new Apple Watch models, and potentially more. However, the introduction of new products also means saying goodbye to older ones. These are some Apple products you probably won’t be able to buy from the Apple Store as soon as next month.

iPhone 15 Pro & iPhone 15 Pro Max

Ever since the iPhone XS and XR were introduced in 2018, Apple has been discontinuing flagship iPhones just a year after they’re introduced, likely because they’re just all too similar, and Apple would rather you buy one of their entry-level iPhones if you’re looking to save some money. There’s no reason to expect that tradition to change, so we’ll likely be saying goodbye to Apple’s first iPhone with titanium next month.

It’s also likely to be the last Pro iPhone to come with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes, since the iPhone 16 Pros are expected to have larger displays. The iPhone 15 Pro also comes in a nice Blue Titanium color, something that probably won’t stick around in the 16 Pro lineup.

iPhone 14 Plus

iPhone 14 Plus was Apple’s first entry-level large iPhone, following up the failure of the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini. It packed the same 6.7-inch display and long lasting battery life as the Pro Max iPhones, just in a cheaper package. The 14 Plus also brought back the “Plus” branding for the first time since the 2017 iPhone 8 Plus.

Apple discontinued the iPhone 13 mini last September while continuing to sell the iPhone 13, so it’s plausible we’ll see a similar strategy again this year – with the 14 Plus getting axed and iPhone 14 sticking around for a little longer.

iPhone 13

Apple introduced the iPhone 13 in 2021, with a number of upgrades, including longer battery life, a new camera system, and a smaller notch. It started at $799, and has received a number of price cuts over the years, now starting at $599. However, it’s now approaching 3 years old and remains the oldest iPhone for sale on Apple’s website.

If history repeats itself, the iPhone 13 will also be going away, and iPhone 14 will take its place at the $599 price point – at least until iPhone SE 4 comes out.

Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2

We’re potentially expecting refreshes to all three Apple Watch models next month. The Series 10 is expected to come with larger (and more efficient) displays, thinner casing, and potentially a new chipset. Ultra 3 is also expected to get a minor refresh this year, and the SE 3 is rumored to be switching to a plastic casing for a more affordable price point.

If all of the Apple Watches get updated, Apple will most likely stop selling all of the current generation Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2 models.

AirPods 2 and AirPods 3

Apple has been selling AirPods 2 since 2019, serving as an entry level model at an affordable price point with all of the essential features, and even though AirPods 3 were introduced in 2021 with Spatial Audio, better audio quality, and other features – Apple still kept AirPods 2 in the lineup. However, that should be changing soon.

Next month, we’re expecting two new trims of AirPods 4, an entry level trim to replace AirPods 2, and a mid-tier trim to replace AirPods 3. The mid tier trim is expected to include noise cancellation, unlike the already existing AirPods 2. With both of these AirPods models being introduced, we’ll likely see AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 both go away.

iPad mini 6 and iPad 10

We should be seeing refreshes to two of Apples cheapest iPads next month, the iPad mini 6 and the iPad 10. Although Apple reduced the price of the iPad 10 earlier this year, rumors suggest that we’ll still be seeing a refresh this year. It’s still possible Apple will keep around the iPad 10 at an even lower price than $349 once they introduce the 11, but I doubt it.

As for the iPad mini, Apple hasn’t kept an older model around in recent history, so that should also be discontinued early next month. The new model is expected to include support for Apple Intelligence, more storage, and potentially Apple Pencil Pro support.

Apple to Allow Used Parts for Repairs, Starting With iPhone 15 Lineup

Apple today announced that customers and independent repair shops will be able to utilize used genuine Apple parts in repairs starting later this year.

Apple told The Washington Post that the new policy will initially apply to parts for iPhone 15 models and newer, including screens, batteries, and cameras. Apple's press release said the policy will eventually extend to used biometric sensors for Face ID and Touch ID. Apple's existing parts "pairing" process will confirm whether or not a used part is genuine.

In the fall, Apple says calibration for both new and used genuine Apple parts will happen on device after the part is installed. If an iPhone has been repaired, a "Parts and Service History" section appears in the Settings app under General → About, and Apple says it will be expanding this section to show whether a genuine part is new or used.

Apple also announced that customers and service providers will no longer need to provide a device's serial number when ordering parts from its self-service repair store for repairs not involving replacement of the logic board.

To deter stolen iPhones from being disassembled for parts, Apple said it will be extending its Activation Lock security feature to iPhone parts:

Apple will also extend its popular Activation Lock feature to iPhone parts in order to deter stolen iPhones from being disassembled for parts. Requested by customers and law enforcement officials, the feature was designed to limit iPhone theft by blocking a lost or stolen iPhone from being reactivated. If a device under repair detects that a supported part was obtained from another device with Activation Lock or Lost Mode enabled, calibration capabilities for that part will be restricted.

Apple's hardware engineering chief John Ternus said the new policy will be more environmentally friendly by extending the lifespan of parts:

For the last two years, teams across Apple have been innovating on product design and manufacturing to support repairs with used Apple parts that won't compromise users' safety, security, or privacy. With this latest expansion to our repair program, we're excited to be adding even more choice and convenience for our customers, while helping to extend the life of our products and their parts.

Rumor: “UnlockSwitch” claim they have reverse engineered the MIG Switch and have a clone under way

This could be a late April Fools’ prank, or simply a whole bunch of nothing, but following the distribution of MIG Switch retail models, we’re already seeing a claim that the device has been reverse engineered, and that clones are being produced, under the name UnlockSwitch.

My Opinion About Macbook Air i5-10th Gen 2020 Intel. Good machine but very poor airflow

Sorry for the english. I'll try to practice as much as I should because i'm planning to move to another country, hope gets for me.

I had this machine, Macbook Air 2020 Intel i5-10th gen (retina display, touch ID, pci-e solid drive), apparently is the same mainboard and technology from Macbook Pro touchbar (have the same system, even if could be possible to attach a touchbar, it will support it), just with some stuff shrinked (just one fan, laaarge battery, very small heatsink). But its main problem resides in the known "thermal throttling" (some stuff what processors do to avoid burning), and Macbook Air is not a exception because since his heatsink is SO small, heat can't be pulled out from machine (so with *some* tasks, performance will be affected seriously) and it affects computer's performance.

Apple, seriously try to connect properly heatsink to fan and this computer will have a good performance against Macbook Pro touchbar.

Really his processor is good, machine is good, the only thing is his heatsink.

Among Us is free on the Epic Games Store

Among Us, the multiplayer game that soared in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, is the latest free title on the Epic Games Store. If you have an account for that storefront, you can download it for free until June 3rd (it normally costs $5). You can then join friends in the game’s newer Airship map, and good news: those friends don’t all need to be playing on PC. The game supports cross-platform multiplayer, so players of the Android, iOS, PC, and Nintendo Switch versions can play together. The PS4 and PS5 versions of the game will support crossplay, too, once it launches later this year.

Sonic Colors is getting remastered as Sega announces a handful of new Sonic games

One of the most beloved Sonic the Hedgehog games is making a return. Sega announced today that a remaster of Sonic Colors — called Sonic Colors: Ultimate — will be coming to the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on September 7th.

The platformer originally launched in 2010, garnering a cult following, and Sega says the new version will feature “stunning visuals, additional features, a new mode, and improved gameplay enhancements.” The game will also be getting a two-part animated tie-in called Rise of the Wisps. The first episode will be out later in the summer.

The announcement was the headlining piece of a Sonic-focused event, which included the reveal of several other games. Sega also announced that the next flagship Sonic title is in the works from Sonic Team — though no real details are available yet, aside from a 2022 release window — as well as a new collection of classic games called Sonic Origins, which will compile the first three games along with Sonic CD. Oh, and the animated Netflix series has a name: Sonic Prime.

Elsewhere, existing games are jumping to new platforms: Sonic Mania and Team Sonic Racing just launched on Amazon’s Luna cloud service; both of those games and Sonic Forces will be on PlayStation Now on June 1st; and Sonic Mania will be available through the Epic Games Store on June 24th.

The “Disaster Girl” photo that sparked a thousand memes is the latest to make it big all over again as an NFT. Zoe Roth, a 21-year-old college student and face of the viral “Disaster Girl,” sold an NFT of the meme for roughly $500,000 worth of Ether, The New York Times reported. The auction took place earlier this month, on auction site Foundation. Roth plans to use the funds to pay for school and make donations to charity, she told The Times.

The now iconic image dates back to 2005, when her father, David Roth, snapped the photo in their neighborhood while watching local firefighters at a controlled burn. Eventually, he entered it into a contest (he won), and the photo was quickly picked up by internet forums, according to Know Your Meme.

It’s not the first time an old meme has found a new life as an NFT or non-fungible token. The artist behind Nyan Cat sold an NFT based on the viral 2011 clip for $605,000 earlier this year. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey also recently sold his first tweet as an NFT for nearly $3 million.
