I’m so glad I created a fingerprint tree (or thumbprint tree… they seem to go by both names) for the wedding.

It turned out to be my favorite keepsake and one of the few things that appeared at both our US and NZ receptions.

It was a last minute minute diy project the week before the wedding. I bought a art board at Hobby Lobby and just went for it, finishing in just a couple hours.

Our thumbprint tree ended up being more like an index finger tree. At least that’s what it looked like after seeing all the wedding photos!

Most of our friends (pretty much all of them actually) had never seen a thumbprint tree at a wedding before. This meant we had something fun and interactive that everyone enjoyed rather than felt was “overdone” at weddings.

We collected the majority of the fingerprints on our fingerprint tree at the actual wedding in Tennessee, but we also brought it across to NZ and had it out at our reception there. Not everyone participated but it didn’t really matter because it’s not like you have names next to the fingerprints (although some people do that instead of a guest book but we had both).

I loved the final product. It turned out so beautiful and vibrant and matched the awesome quilt a friend gave us for the wedding.

It’s now hanging in our bedroom as a constant reminder of all the lovely people who celebrated the beginning of our marriage. Every time I look at it I feel happy and loved and connected to all of them. Plus, it’s pretty!
