“Stop bottle baby deaths. Boycott Nestlé.

As you probably know, A Much Better Way supports the boycott of Nestlé products. According the the World Health Organisation Authority (WHO) 1.5 million babies die every year as a result of inappropriate feeding.

Despite this Nestlé continues to push it’s artificial baby food in breach of international standards. Monitoring by groups on the ground around the world shows Nestlé is responsible for more violations than any other company.

That’s why Nestlé is singled out for boycott action. If you don’t boycott Nestlé already, I ask that you consider looking at the evidence and giving up Nestlé products. The boycott has forced some changes from the company, but it is still a long way from complying. Campaigners are also working for laws. Nestlé can comply when it is given no choice. It is not being asked to do something that is impossible, but without pressure it continues to put its own profits before infant health and mothers’ rights. How Breastfeeding is Undermined by Nestle

“Nestlé is targeted with the boycott because monitoring conducted by the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) finds it to be responsible for more violations of the World Health Assembly marketing requirements for baby foods than any other company (see the codewatch section for profiles of the different companies to target their malpractice).

As UNICEF has said:

“Marketing practices that undermine breastfeeding are potentially hazardous wherever they are pursued: in the developing world, WHO estimates that some 1.5 million children die each year because they are not adequately breastfed. These facts are not in dispute.”

Kill Your Lights Tonight for Earth Hour

It might be a small thing for you, but the cumulative effect can be tremendous. The long term impact of energy awareness will have an even greater and long-lasting impact than the energy savings itself.

I am referring to Earth Hour, from 8pm-9pm local time on Saturday, March 29. Although it originated in Sydney, Australia last year, the idea took hold and is now a national event in the US as well. Many cities are participating but even if you live in small town USA, go ahead and turn your lights out from 8-9pm.

Even google went “black” for the day to honor and bring awareness to Earth Hour. Check it out, it is pretty neat to see a black google page! There is some speculation that this will be an annual occurrance on the last Saturday of March. Environmentalists fear that people will believe they have “done their part” for the year, however. Our hope is that it will make people stop and think about their energy uses and look for alternative ways to conserve.

Why is considered a crime to mutilate the genitals of females but not their male counterparts? It is a crime beyond words to amputate a healthy body part from an unwilling participant. It is particularly heinous to take it from the weakest among us, often without anesthesia and sell it for profit.

Do Your Part to End “Senseless Seal Slaughter Season”

Tell Canada’s Minister of International Trade, David Emerson, that the seal hunt damages Canada’s international reputation, and remind him that it has resulted in ongoing global boycotts of Canadian seafood and tourism. Tell him it’s time to end the commercial seal hunt for good.

Visit the HSUS to send David Emerson your message and sign the pledge to boycott Canadian seafood until this senseless slaughter ends.
