Gerry Georgatos – The Department of Communities Western Australia which incorporates public housing in its regime recently suggested in the media that disruptive behaviour is one of the major underwriters to the Department’s alarmingly high eviction rate of public housing tenants. Wrong.

Western Australia has the nation’s highest eviction rate of public housing tenants. Victoria has less than half the eviction toll from its public housing compared to Western Australia. Victoria has more than twice the number of public houses compared to Western Australia.

Social housing is where after our homeless citizens, our nation’s poorest and most vulnerable citizens live.

Let us set the record straight.

Lindsey Graham Just Said That The Dem Congresswomen Deserved The Racist Attacks Because They Don't Support Trump: “I really do believe that if you’re a Somali refugee who likes Trump, he’s not going to say ‘go back to Somalia,'” Graham said, apparently referencing Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), according to NBC News.

“A racist says go back to Somalia because you’re a Somalian or you’re a Muslim or whatever, that’s just the way he is. More narcissism than anything else.”

Graham was asked about his remarks and claimed that he was “making a joke,” adding that he didn’t “like the idea” of telling anyone to “go back” to the place they’re from.

“I think you can make the case that he’s a narcissist more than you can make he’s a racist,” the South Carolina Republican said. “I mean, I don’t like the idea of telling somebody who’s an American citizen to go home, this is their home.”

A Dallas-born citizen picked up by the Border Patrol has been detained for three weeks | Immigration | Dallas News: But this time was different, Marlon said. He had only a school ID. His brother was carrying only his Texas ID, which can only be obtained with a Social Security number.

“We were confident that we’d be able to pass. We were going to do something good for our futures,” he said. “I didn’t imagine this could happen and now I’m so sad that I’m not with my family,” Marlon said by phone from Reynosa, Mexico, where he is staying with his grandmother.

After two days in detention, Marlon signed a voluntary deportation form.

“I signed because I wanted to talk with my mom. Now, we just have to wait and see and hope that they release my brother,” Marlon said.�

Francisco Galicia told his mother, who lives in Edinburg, that he was detained because he didn’t have his U.S. passport. But she said he did present CBP with his Texas ID.�

Galicia wasn’t allowed to use the phone for the three weeks he was in CBP custody, Sanjuana said. But he has been able to make collect calls to his mother since since Saturday, when Galicia was transferred to ICE’s custody.�

Why Native Hawaiians are protesting the construction of a Thirty Meter Telescope | Sinchi Foundation: by Inge van Schooneveld
Since July 15th, news outlets around the world have covered the ongoing protests of around 1,000 Native Hawaiians at mount Mauna Kea, stressing the indigenous claims to the mountain and the planned construction of a 30 meter telescope that is not in line with these claims.

The protests for the mountain have been going on for many years since the initial plans for the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) were drawn. On June 22nd of this year Hawaiian governor David Ige issued a notice allowing the construction of the project. This issue followed the defeat of a legal challenge that began in 2015, but the indigenous struggle to protect Mauna Kea dates back as far as 1964 when the first (smaller) telescopes were erected. The building of this TMT was set to commence last Monday, but the road was non-violently blocked by protestors, preventing construction equipment from being transported up the mountain. In response, 33 protestors have since been arrested, amongst which 20 elders.

Amazon in Danger of Total Destruction Under Brazil's Right-Wing President Bolsonaro: The policies of Brazil’s right-wing President, Jair Bolsonaro, is placing the Amazon Rainforest under extreme threat once again. For a while, from 2004 to 2016, the Amazon’s destruction had been slowed and even partially halted. However, ever since Bolsonaro has taken over as president, the rainforest destruction has been accelerating again at a frightening pace. According to Imazon, a Brazilian research center, deforestation in the first months of 2019 increased by more than 50%, relative to the same period in 2018. Most of this deforestation took place illegally in protected areas. The Amazon is an ecological system that is essential for the world’s climate. 20% of the world’s freshwater cycles through its rivers, plants, soils, and air. And about 20% of the rainforest was already destroyed in the course of the 20th century. If another 20% were to be destroyed, which could happen in less than 30 years, it would trigger a vicious feedback loop that scientists called “dieback.” This is what happens when the forest begins to dry out and burn on its own, until it disappears completely.

'RUSSIAGATE,' SYRIA AND THE LEFT | CounterVortex: Trump's recent visit to London brought tens of thousands of protesters into the streets. Where are the protests in the US? Where are the coalitions in the US�organizing against Trump's anti-democratic, inhumane policies? Where is the left?

Part of the problem is the enormous amount of disinformation that has been specifically directed at the left, disinformation that most of those targeted don't recognize. The disinfo uses anti-imperialist language and is posted on "left"�sites that usually have nominally accurate stories on issues such as Palestine, climate change, corporate corruption, and other questions of concern to progressives.

In addition to the disinfo media sites, authors respected by left�have confused their readers by dismissing "Russiagate"�as a hoax, claiming that Russian interference in the US elections has been greatly exaggerated to provide the Democrats an excuse for Clinton's loss.

Eight years of steady disinformation on Syria have created a split in the peace movement. The enormous amount of time and energy spent debating Syria could have gone to building the peace movement instead of dividing it. The doubts raised repeatedly about Russian interference and Mueller's investigation have weakened the opposition to Trump. Some people don't know which news sources they can trust. Others restrict themselves only to sources that support their ideological line.

“It’s extremely unfortunate that during these pressing and urgent times, the President has chosen to turn his back on the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization – though I must admit, his refusal to attend our convention is not totally unexpected,” said Leon Russell, Board Chairman of the NAACP.

"The murder of social leaders including trade unionists has reached epidemic levels": The Justice for Colombia Peace Monitor formed of British and Irish parliamentarians and trade union leaders visited Colombia between 26th and 31st May 2019 to observe the state of the implementation of the 2016 peace agreement and the broader human rights situation. The Peace Monitor previously visited Colombia in April and August 2018 and in November released its annual report in the British Parliament. The final conclusions of this visit will be presented in July to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Irish Parliament and to British Parliamentarians.

GN reduces cannabis prices as sales fall: Nunavummiut ordered 2,190 grams of cannabis products through GN-approved online outlets between April and June. That netted the GN $10,194 in markup revenue.

However, those sales were weaker than the January to March period when Nunavummiut purchased 3,481 grams of cannabis through GN-authorized agents. That put $15,602 in GN coffers from the markup.

The Indigenous nation exposing the lie of Canada’s “world class” oil spill response – Briarpatch Magazine: Three years after the Nathan E. Stewart sank, spilling 110,000 litres of diesel, effluent, and engine oil into Heiltsuk fishing grounds, the Indigenous nation is still waiting for justice. Canada charged Kirby – the Texas-based corporation that owns the ship – with nine criminal violations, including violating the Fisheries Act, the Migratory Birds Convention Act, and the Pilotage Act, for not having a pilot on board the ship.

The company pled guilty to three of those nine counts, and was sentenced today – though the penalties, $2.9 million, will do little to disrupt business as usual for Kirby, a multi-billion dollar company and one of the world’s largest marine shipping companies.

‘Shields for Living, Tools for Life’ program to help get youth back on track

Creating A Safe Supportive Environment (CASSE), a psychologically focused not-for-profit organisation with a proven track record working with Aboriginal people on country in remote communities, will deliver an intensive six month targeted program for high risk young people in central Australia as part of the Northern Territory Government’s newly announced 'Creating Safer Communities: Back on Track - Cutting Youth Crime' Plan.

“Through the ‘Shields for Living, Tools for Life’ program, we build on our experience working with Aboriginal youth and elders in remote communities on country, using a trauma and culturally informed frame to increase engagement and connections with family and community,” explained Mr Chris Croker, Acting Chair of CASSE.

“Our psychological approach helps young people develop understandings of problem behaviour and underlying trauma, and to achieve social and emotional wellbeing. CASSE believes that cultural competency is both a protective and positive factor in psychological growth.”

The innovative ‘Shields for Living, Tools for Life’ program provides an alternative sentencing option for young people involved in the justice system and has been designed to reduce the likelihood of recidivism.

The participants engage in therapeutic workshops that emphasise the importance of reflection, healing and reparation, and intensive on-country, culture camps that are delivered by Aboriginal mentors alongside CASSE’s long running and successful Men’s Tjilirra Movement activities.

“Shields are old tools for protection and strength,” said Mr Croker. “They are a powerful symbol for young people making new tools for living and life.”

“We welcome this government initiative to break the cycle of trauma for young Territorians.”

U.S.: Political prisoner updates:

Judith Alice Clark is freed from prison. Sentenced to 75 years in retribution for the deaths of a security guard and police in the Brinks robbery of October 20, 1981, she didn't fire a weapon but was an accomplice to a resistance action. With evidence of her re-forming her life and priorities New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo granted her clemency in 2016 which allowed her parole; there was considerable protest from police groups; the Governor's mercy was not immediately honored. At her parole hearing of April 2017 parole was denied. At her parole hearing in April 2019 parole was granted and on May 10 she left prison. David Gilbert remains in prison. Sentenced to life in prison for being part of the Brinks robbery he's eligible for parole in 2056 (Wikipedia). He was found guilty of three counts of felony murder, which is to say he's considered complicit in the deaths of the shootouts though he didn't commit them. The severity of his sentence under mitigating circumstances is understood as 20th Century punishment for the black and white alliance of the action, and his concern for people as opposed to the system. From his court statement on September 13, 1982: The government that dropped napalm in Vietnam, that provides the cluster bombs used against civilians in Lebanon, and that trains torturers in El Salvador calls us 'terrorists.' The rulers who have grown rich on generations of slave labor and slave wages...label us as 'criminals.' The police forces of Amerika who have murdered 2,000 [people of color] over the past five years and who flood the communities with drugs say that we 'have no respect for human lives.' / We are neither terrorists nor criminals. It is precisely because of our love of life, because we revel in the human spirit, that we became freedom fighters against this racist and deadly imperialist system. [David Gilbert. Sundiata Acoli: (please note previous). Sundiata Acoli became a prisoner in 1973 after surviving a shootout with police which killed an officer and fellow Panther. Sundiata Acoli was charged with their death and convicted. Assata Shakur also survived the shootout and was convicted of killing the same police officer. She subsequently escaped from prison. Sundiata Acoli was eligible for parole in 1992, with court ordered parole in 2014, but the state appealed and in 2017 the appeals board again refused his parole. His next parole hearing date would be 2032. The length of his incarceration and reversals of parole at his age are cruel and unusual punishment. His closeness to Assata Shakur and his recent parole board hearing's focus on extracting information suggest parole is withheld to make him provide information. Dr. Mutulu Shakur, whose convictions include helping Assata Shakur escape, also remains in prison without parole as the government attempts to make him confess to masterminding the escape. His release is similarly denied. Marilyn Buck, whose convictions included aiding Assata Shakur's escape, contracted cancer at FCI Dublin, suddenly, was slow to be treated and died soon after in 2003 (she was allowed to die outside confinement).
Imam Jamil Al-Amin: on May 3rd in Atlanta oral arguments were presented the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals requesting Al-Amin be granted a re-trial. He was convicted of a crime someone else confessed to and where as a suspect he was falsely identified. He was sentenced to life without parole. In the south persecution of COINTELPRO targets deprived victims of any federal protection to balance the systemic racism. News reports of Al-Amin and his condition remain heavily suppressed by U.S. media. A leader of SNCCand the Black Panther Party as H. Rap Brown in the old days, while serving time in Attica he became a devout Muslim, and subsequently a deeply respected Imam.
Dr. Rafil Dhafir, moved while infirm to be among the many New York City prisoners subject to freezing temperatures at the particularly toxic Riker's Island prison in New York (previous), was subsequently moved to a maximum security unit in Pennsylvania. He was moved again to a minimum security unit in Pennsylvania. The doctor was convicted for financial crimes after providing through the charity he founded medical supplies to Iraqi children victims of U.S. bombing while U.S. sanctions were in place. These were not sanctions as an alternative to 'bombing Iraq into the stone age' but post bombing sanctions which deprived a starving people recovery, food, medical supplies. Dr. Dhafir tried to stand against an attempted genocide of the Iraqi people when few others would confront the issue. In Spain an attempt to open a case at the Audiencia Nacional de España, 2009, alleging genocide in Iraq by British and U.S. leaders was not successful. Dr. Dhafir was convicted in 2005 to 22 years; on appeal his resentencing in 2012 reinstated his original sentence and according to the FBI required $865,272.76 in restitution. For nonviolent action as an affirmation of life and compassion, his early time was served at ADX Florence, a maximum security prison where prisoners were kept in 23 hour lockdown and required to be in shackles when they left their cells. Constructed next to a toxic nuclear waste dump known to be leaking throughout the 1980's, ADX Florence is considered by prisoner reports as particularly dangerous to health (Other political prisoners confined at ADX Florence have included Oscar López Rivera, Raymond Luc Levasseur, Imam Al-Amin, Abu Hamza al-Masri, Fahad Hashmi).
I include here one of many Mexican political prisoners imprisoned in Mexico showing a standard tactic of unjust government which criminalizes and neutralizes community leaders of oppressed minorities. Librado Jacinto Baños Rodríguez, community legal defender and attorney, defender of indigenous rights, campesino rights, the rights of those with African ancestry, community rights, was falsely arrested in Oaxaca Mexico by 50 Mexican military and police cadre on August 25, 2013, despite protests by the villagers. During his imprisonment described as physical and psychological torture the legal defender lost his eyesight. The UN has protested his false arrest and that of other legal rights defenders in Oaxaca. He was acquitted on a charge of kidnapping. Treatments of legal rights and human rights defenders in Mexico is entirely suppressed in the English speaking media. In late October 2018 Librado Jacinto Baños Rodríguez and Felipe Rojas Orduño were released from prison.

Seamus O'Regan faces calls to visit Attawapiskat during state of emergency: Earlier this month, the community declared a state of emergency over concerns about chemical levels in tap water.

NDP MP Charlie Angus, who represents the federal riding encompassing the reserve, is meeting with the community today and says O’Regan needs to see the impacts of the issue first-hand, including that community members are worried about being able to safety bathe their children.

Northern Ontario First Nation declares state of emergency over its water quality | Globalnews.ca: The chief of Eabametoong First Nation says the move comes after tests showed high levels of chemicals in the supply that are byproducts of treatment materials like chlorine interacting with naturally occurring compounds.

Chief Harvey Yesno says the results showed levels of trihalomethanes well above Health Canada safety standards and notes that they have been associated with cancer.

On Thursday 27th of July around 2 in the morning in Athens, on Bouboulinas st. in Exachia neighborhood, a squadron of greek cops kidnapped and tortured an anarchist immigrant. Straight away they began to torture me with a barrage of kicks, using racist and fascist insults. Meanwhile, the police stated that my offense is that I am an anarchist and belong to a known political group of Exarchia. Then the squadron of riot cops forced me into a dark alley. They laid me on the ground and they tried to break my ribs by kicking; I placed my hand on my ribs to protect them. They took away my hand from my ribs and tried to break my fingers with their shields. In order to protect my fingers, I pulled my hand under my belly. At that moment, they hit my ribs again to break them. This action lasted a long time, until one of the cops proposed to break my wrists. So they placed my hands on the curb stone to break them with batons, but I managed to pull my hands away. This escalated their anger, and by saying fascist and racist insults, they all started to beat me. They beat me for more than one and a half hours. All the while they were taking several photos of me getting beaten up, as well as when I was lying semi conscious on the street. When cops realized that my body had been seriously damaged and I was not able to move, they started to play a game with me, telling me “you have ten seconds to leave from here, if we catch you again, we will kill you”, and two cops moved a little bit ahead of me to catch me again. They hit my knee several times with batons to make sure that I can not escape. When one of them turned to look behind him, with all of the pain that I had, I started running. One of the cops tried to catch me again but I could escape by running up Tositsa and seek help at a nearby house of comrades.

Solidarity paramedics came immediately and after examination, told me I should go to hospital. There they found that aside from severe bruising all over my body and head wounds, I aslo had a fructured spinal joint.

IAF-FAI Imposters: The FAImujer Saga – Indigenous Anarchist Federation: The IAF-FAI was founded on June 1st of 2018. A comrade by the pseudonym Insurgente Eepa contacted Bad Salish Girl and The Green City about forming an organization to center Indigenous anarchism. Together they started building the IAF-FAI. At the time, all three of these comrades had pages with personal information that were used to write posts and express thoughts. Little to our knowledge, FAImujer started a page on June 24th, stealing the header and logo of the IAF-FAI, and falsely claiming that their logo was stolen and that the IAF-FAI was run by a white man.

Tacoma, WA– Early this morning, a person who appears to have been engaged in protest against the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma was shot and killed by members of the Tacoma Police Department. Today marks yet another death linked to the detention center, and another death at the hands of the police. Based on available information, including the police scanner recording, Willem Van Spronsen, the protestor killed, appears to have been targeting not the detention center itself, as has been widely reported in the media, but the parking lot across the street from the detention center which houses the NWDC’s transportation infrastructure. This infrastructure includes a fleet of buses that transports immigrants to be caged at the detention center, and that transports immigrants from the detention center to the Yakima Airport, from which they are deported.
