The 84th Annual Academy Awards or better known as The Oscars will be held on February 26, 2012. It is definitely the most anticipated award show in the whole wide world.

It is a prestigious award giving body that gives credit to the best artists and films within the year.

I watch the show because I want to see which of the films I’ve watched made it to the nominees list and I want to see who wins and of course I want to see what and who the celebrities are wearing.

This year, it will be hosted by Billy Crystal and that alone is something to look forward to. Eddie Murphy was originally supposed to host it but things happened. Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing Eddie Murphy host the Oscars too, but he was replaced with someone as awesome so I’m not so bummed out.

The movies nominated for Best Picture are also nominated in other categories such as Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and the like. Out of all the movies nominated, which one do you think will bring home the most trophies for different categories? I haven’t seen all the nominated films but I have seen some of them and I really would hate to be in the judges’ shoes because the nominees this year are great. Brad Pitt and George Clooney both up for Best Actor? GAH! How does one choose?!

Okay fine, I have this thing with Vampires. I just love them. They are fascinating beings. I love how they have evolved through time and I love how many variations there are of vampires today, thanks to Twilight for reviving the enthusiasm of the world for these totally intriguing beings.

So anyway, this time, I’m going to write about another one of my favorite type of vampires. They don’t shimmer in the sun but they can walk under it thanks to their witch friends.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE VAMPIRE DIARIES:

I am so totally obsessed with The Vampire Diaries! I absolutely love the Salvatore brothers and cannot decide who should be with Elena! The story revolves around the life of a girl named Elena Gilbert who lives in the mysterious town of Mystic Falls. Contrary to what she believes, she is not just a small town girl, nope, she’s something so very special that it has drawn the attention of vampires, witches and werewolves, oh and ghosts, we must not forget about the ghosts. Everything unfolds slowly as the show progresses, the story is so very intriguing. It is not just a story of a love triangle between a vampire and a human. It’s a love triangle between 2 brothers and a girl. So how are these vampires able to walk in the sun? Through a powerful witch’s spell of course.

MEET THE MAIN CHARACTERS:

Elena Gilbert – She is the heroine of the tv series. She is actually a dopelganger of the vampire Katherine Pierce, who is like her great great great grandmother. She only finds out about her bloodline after a few episodes in the first season. She primarily falls in love with the vampire Stefan Salvatore, but as the series progresses, she feels confused and feels strong emotions toward Damon Salvatore as well, Stefan’s older brother. She is played by actress Nina Dobrev.

Katherine Pierce/Katerina Petrova – A Bulgarian beauty born in the 15th Century. She became pregnant when she was a teen and was forced to give up her baby to prevent her family from being shamed. She then runaway to England where she met Klaus and Elijah, the original vampires who believed that she was the key to breaking a curse.  She became a vampire solely because she wanted to survive being sacrificed, all that will be revealed in Season 2. She only gets a mention in the first season and appears only through flashbacks of memories from both Damon and Stefan. She is the vampire who turned the Salvatore brothers. She is also played by actress Nina Dobrev.

As a viewer you can easily tell Katherine and Elena apart. Katherine wears her hair in lose curls, unless she’s pretending to be Elena, but you can still tell it’s her by the way she smiles, she has this naughty type of smile as opposed to Elena’s almost always worried look and sincere smile. I love Nina Dobrev because she portrays both characters so well. I love Katherine Pierce more than Elena though.

Stefan Salvatore – The younger Salvatore brother. Elena and Katherine not only share a face, they also share their love for Stefan. However, in later seasons, Katherine tells Elena that she loved them both. He is a “good” vampire, only feeding on animal blood, he will so make Carlisle Cullen proud. However, he didn’t use to be like that, he used to be a blood thristy vampire and was known as the ripper as he would get crazy after feeding on human blood and would rip his victims apart, then later on, in his guilt, he would put the pieces back together. He wasn’t able to control himself until an older vampire named Lexie Branson taught him how. He is played by actor Paul Wesley.

Damon Salvatore – The older Salvatore brother. He is the cool and collected brother. Unlike Stefan, he did not lose control, however, Katherine’s love for Stefan drove him mad with jealousy which is why he acts like an asshole to cover up his pain. In the later season, you’ll love Damon more than Stefan even if he acts all tough and jerky. He is played by Ian Somerhalder who auditioned for the part of Jason Stackhouse on another vampire series, True Blood, it’s a good thing he didn’t get the part, I can’t imagine someone else playing Damon!

Bonnie Bennett – She is Elena’s best friend and she is a witch. She thinks she is just a psychic but she later finds out that she comes from a line of powerful witches that have originated from Salem. When Caroline was turned into a vampire, she puts a spell on a ring that enables Caroline to walk in the sunlight. She is played by actress Kat Graham/Katerina Graham.

Caroline Forbes – She is the Sheriff’s daughter and also one of Elena’s best friends. She seems like an insecure bitch who is jealous of Elena at the beginning of the series but as the show progresses she becomes a better person. In Season 2, she and Tyler got into a car accident and while she was unconscious in the hospital Katherine killed her and because she had Damon’s blood in her to help her recover from the accident, she became a vampire. She is played by actress, Candace Accola.

Tyler Lockwood – He is the son of the mayor of Mystic Falls. At the beginning of the series, he seems like your average jock, rich, sporty and an asshole. However, like everyone else in the show he matures and becomes a better person. He also finds out in Season 2 that he is a werewolf. He is played by actor Michael Trevino.

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS:

Jeremy Gilbert – Elena’s younger brother. He hasn’t gotten over the loss of his parents, so he does drugs and hangs out with the wrong crowd. He is in love with Vicki Donovan who happens to be Tyler Lockwood’s girlfriend. Played by actor Steven R. McQueen.

Jenna Sommers – Elena and Jeremy’s aunt who also stands as their legal guardian. She is sisters with their mother, Miranda Sommers Gilbert. She is played by Sara Canning.

Alaric Saltzman – A vampire hunter who is in disguise as a history teacher. He believes that his wife was killed by a vampire so he is dedicated to hunt down the vampire who did. He thinks Damon killed her, but he didn’t she actually asked him to turn him into a vampire. Later in the first season, he falls in love with Jenna and they start dating. He is played by Matt Davis.

Matt Donovan – Elena’s ex boyfriend who became her really good friend. He ended up dating Caroline after breaking up with Elena. Played by Zac Roerig.

Vicki Donovan – Matt’s older sister. She is in love with Tyler Lockwood but Tyler cannot commit to her because he is afraid of what his father will think of her, so she turns to Jeremy when Tyler won’t pay attention to her. Played by Kayla Ewell.

Liz Forbes – Caroline’s mother. She is also the Sheriff in Mystic Falls and a member of the Founders Council, a secret group that is dedicated to protect the town of Mystic Falls from Vampires. She was left by Caroline’s dad for another man and because of it, she has a strained relationship with Caroline. She becomes really close to Damon and invites him to be a member of the Founders Council, she obviously does not know he is a vampire. She is played by Marguerite MacIntyre.

Carol Lockwood – Tyler’s mom and the Mayor’s wife. She is clueless when it comes to the Lockwood line being werewolves. She takes over the Founders Council when her husband dies in Season 2. She is played by Susan Walters.

Anna or Annabelle – a Vampire who comes to Mystic Falls to try and free her mother from the tomb where vampires were imprisoned back in the 1860’s, during the time when the Salvatore brothers were turned. It is the same tomb where the Salvatore brothers believe Katherine is imprisoned. She uses Jeremy to help her. She is played by Malese Jow.

Isobel Fleming – Alaric Slatzman’s supposedly dead wife. Elena’s birth mother and a direct descendant of Katherine Pierce. When she became pregnant as a teen, she gave up her daughter to the baby daddy’s brother and his wife. Played by actress Mia Kirshner.

John Gilbert – Elena’s biological father. He is brothers with Grayson Gilbert, who adopted and raised Elena as his own. Played by David Anders.

Emily Bennett – Katherine Pierce’s handmaiden, who is also a very powerful witch. Also the great great great great grandmother of Bonnie. She is the one who gave the jewelry to Katherine, Damon, Stefan, Anna, wear to be able to walk in the sun. She also put a spell on the device Jonathan Gilbert created that can hurt and track vampires. She is played by Bianca Lawson.

As you very well know by now, I am a sucker for Twilight. The films are not as good as the books, but Taylor Lautner makes it all worth it. Oh and one more thing that makes it awesome is the soundtrack. The Twilight soundtrack is awesome! I love all the songs on all the movies! I can’t decide which is the best just yet..

Lucas loves music. If you’ve been a follower of my blogs, then you’ve probably seen one of his videos pretending to play a musical instrument and singing along to whatever beat he has created.

You all know how much he loves Justin Bieber right? He loves him so much, he even likes Selena Gomez.

When we were in Manila, he couldn’t help himself. He just had to pick up one of my brother’s electric acoustic guitar and tried to play it, my brother almost had a heart attack , so he quickly took the electric guitar from Lucas but replaced it with another guitar. Electric acoustic guitars are a lot more expensive that a regular guitar. It has something to do with the kind of music that it plays, I have no idea.

As you can see, the guitar is much too big for him. Inasmuch as I want to buy him a guitar for his birthday this year, I can’t seem to find one that will suit him. I don’t think he’s too young to learn a musical instrument, I think he’ll love to learn how to actually play it. On the picture above, he was strumming the guitar and humming along to it. I definitely want him to pursue his love for music and maybe one day, I will be like Justin Bieber’s mom, super proud and super rich! LOL.

I have been watching quite a lot of True Blood lately. Why? Because I am hooked and because I have the complete series on hand, why not watch it? I only have one episode of season 4 to watch and I am contemplating whether I should watch it now or at least wait until Season 5 airs in June.

I don’t think I’ll be able to wait that long, but I just have to finish season 4 already! I keep dreaming about what I want to happen and how I want it to end, but you know it never works out quite that way, especially since there is another season, which means they will end it with you wanting more.

I also can’t watch it now because my speakers gave up on me. I don’t know about you, but when I watch my tv shows, I want it to be loud. Not loud enough to disturb anyone else, but loud enough that I can drown myself and really get into the show, you know? I don’t want to hear anything except the characters’ voices and everything else on the show. Yes, I’m obsessive that way.

The wire of my speakers are cut, I don’t know what happened, but I suppose it’s a good thing because now I have a reason to buy the wireless speakers I have been eyeing in the mall for quite sometime now.

These speakers are fairly old, I got them back in 2003 as part of my desktop then. It’s pretty old, but it still works great, but now that the wire has been cut, it caused a spark and a slight boom, and that is something I just can’t ignore. I don’t want to cause a fire and I certainly don’t want to get electrocuted. I’m definitely going to go wireless this time.

If you don’t know what True Blood is… OMG! Get out from under that rock and read something! LOL!

Okay, granted that you don’t have cable or perhaps you have “no time”, I’m going to tell you what True Blood is.

True Blood is an HBO Original Series based on the novels “The Southern Vampire Mysteries” by Charlaine Harris.

It revolves around the life of Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic girl working as a waitress in a bar in Bon Temps, Louisiana. If you like vampires, werewolves, witches, shifters and everything mystical like me, then you will most definitely love this series.

MY THOUGHTS ON TRUE BLOOD:

The first time I saw this was during the hype of Twilight, I was already a fan of The Vampire Diaries then and so I was like, what the hell? Another vampire-human love story? Great.

Then I saw the vampires and their fangs and I thought. Hmm, intriguing, retractable, misplaced fangs. The misplaced fangs irked me a bit at first, cause I was like, no way, but then again, it’s retractable, so yeah, in time I thought it was cool too.

As I watched through the entire first season, I was like, “OMG, this is so NOT your typical cutesy vampire-human love triangle sort of thing. It was extreme! Complete with curse words and very hot sex scenes. The story line is very unique too, not like The Vampire Diaries and definitely nothing like Twilight.

MEET THE MAIN CHARACTERS:

Sookie Stackhouse – The main character of the series. She works as a waitress at Merlotte’s. She is a telepath and vampires just find her oozing with sex appeal, why? Because she’s special. How Special you ask? Well, you’ll find out in Season 2. She is played by actress Anna Paquin. I don’t know if she’s always had that gap in her tooth, but I can’t imagine Sookie without it.

Bill Compton – If James Bond was from the South and was a vampire, he’d be Bill Compton. LOL. He’s debonair and smooth and intriguing at the same time. However, he’s no Edward Cullen, he definitely has a dark side and embraces it, but does he truly love Sookie? Or is he after her because she’s “special”? He is played by actor Stephen Moyer. No doubt that Stephen Moyer makes one hot vampire, if only he was taller.

Sam Merlotte – The owner of Merlotte’s where Sookie works as a waitress. He’s not just your average bar owner, he is a Shape Shifter, like Jacob Black from Twilight, only cooler because he can shift into any animal he wants, not restricted to just one animal like Jacob. He is in-love with Sookie, everyone knows it but he still thinks it’s a secret. He usually transforms into a Collie when he wants to stalk watch over Sookie. He is played by actor Sam Trammel. He’s super hot, I think it’s safe to assume all shifters are hot. LOL.

Eric Northman – A Viking Prince turned into a vampire and is now a Vampire Sheriff in Louisiana. He owns Fangtasia, a vampire-human bar where people and vampires go to get wasted and laid. He is cruel, manipulative and yet super hot. Inasmuch as I love to hate him, I can’t I just love him! I like Vampire Bill, but I like Eric better. Raise your hand if you agree! He is played by actor Alexander Skarsgård who is just super hot!

Jason Stackhouse – The very definition of a jock. Super hot but stupid. LOL. In the first season, he gets blamed for murders because of his appetite for sex and somehow the women he’s had sex with winds up strangled to death. Later on, it is revealed that the only mistake he did was getting it on with several women at a time. He has a lot of libido in him and he is not afraid to show it. However, as the show progresses he does as well, and in the latest seasons, he is more mature and less stupid. LOL. He is played by actor Ryan Kwanten.

TRIVIA: Ian Somerhalder, better known for his role as Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries auditioned for the part of Jason Stackhouse.

Tara Thornton – She is Sookie’s angry best friend. She has had a rough childhood with her mom being drunk all the time, which explains why she is angry all the time. She only experiences happiness when she is with Sookie. In the first few episodes it appears she has a crush on Jason, which wanes eventually. She and Sam had a sexual relationship but remains to be friends. Tara experiences a lot of heartaches throughout the series and her character remains to be angry up until the latest season. She is played by actress Rutina Wesley.

TRIVIA: Brooke Kerr of Saved By The Bell: The New Class fame was originally cast as Tara Thornton but after only 2 episodes, she was replaced by Rutina Wesley and all scenes were re-filmed.

Lafayette Reynolds – Tara’s cousin who happens to be gay and a drug dealer. However, he has a good heart and is an awesome person. Later in the season he finds out that he is a medium. He is played by actor Nelsan Ellis.

Pam De Beaufort – Eric Northman’s progeny. She is gorgeous, cruel and loves being a vampire. She loves Eric so much, she will do anything for him. She is played by actress Kristin Bauer.

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS:

Adele Stackhouse – Sookie’s kind hearted and very much loved grandmother who raised Sookie and Jason when their parents died, she also looked after Tara because she was Sookie’s best friend. Played by Lois Smith.

Hoyt Fortenberry – Jason Stackhouse’s best friend who still lives with his mother.

Maxine Fortenberry – Hoyt’s controlling mom. Played by actress Dale Raoul.

Arlene Fowler – Sookie’s co-worker and friend. She is played by actress Carrie Preston.

Rene Lenier – Jason Stackhouse’s best friend. He is dating Arlene Fowler. He is played by actor Michael Raymond-James.

Terry Bellefleur – He works as a cook in Merlotte’s and mostly keeps to himself. He is played by actor Todd Lowe.

Andy Bellefleur – Bon Temps detective who feels unappreciated and is out to prove himself to the world. He is cousins with Terry Bellefleur. Played by actor Chris Bauer.

Sheriff Bud Dearborne – Human Sheriff of Bon Temps, Louisiana. Played by actor William Sanderson.

Nan Flanagan – Spokesperson for the American Vampire League who also has considerable power, politically, in the vampire world. Played by actress Jessica Tuck.

Steve Newlin – The head of the Fellowship of the Sun and Leader of the Light of Day Institute who believes that vampires are a menace and that the human race is better off without them. Played by Michael McMillian.

You love your action games. And why shouldn’t you? World of Warcraft, Voltron, and all of those other military and espionage games, shooter, and fighting games are fun to play. But are you getting the best gaming experience? If you aren’t playing on a high-definition TV, chances are you are missing out on a lot of the fun that can be had with these games.

I love shopping online. There is a wide array of choices and you can be sure that you will find whatever it is that you are looking for with just a few strokes on the keyboard. For Christmas this year, our friend’s mom gave B and I concert tickets to a show of 3 of the best bands in the Philippines. It was definitely one of the best gifts I have ever gotten for Christmas! B and I are so very grateful.

Both of us were fans of the bands that were going to perform, so we were both super excited. The last concert we went to was Fra Lippo Lippi and John Ford Coley’s concert back in February.

The show was opened by a group of Filipino dancers, who performs in Hong Kong. I forgot their name, but they were okay.

Then Freestyle was the first to perform. It is a rock and R&B band that was really popular in the late 1990’s. I was waiting for them to sing So Slow, it was one of their hits then, but they opted to sing popular pop songs as well as a medley of Michael Jackson’s songs. They did sing Before I Let You Go, which was one of their hits back in the day. Check it out.

And then it was South Border’s turn.

I am a huge fan of the band South Border. It is a pop and R&B band that is really popular here in the Philippines. However, I became very busy with my life and I have not been keeping tabs on them. The last time I heard, Luke Mijares left the group. He was he second vocalist of the band replacing original vocalist, Brix Ferraris. When Brix left the group everyone thought it would be the end for South Border, but Luke came in and the people loved him. When he left there were other vocalists who replaced him, I have no idea who they were. How does South Border manage to still be one of the best bands in the Philippines despite the fact that their vocalists seem to leave them every time, you ask? Jay Durias. The band’s keyboard player and vocalist. He is also a song writer. As long as he is in the band and he keeps making awesome songs, I doubt South Border will go south even if their vocalists keep changing.

Side A was the last to perform. I suppose it has something to do with age? Youngest to oldest? LOL. I do love a few of their songs, but I am not particularly a fan. I think the lead vocals, Joey Generoso, has turned gay? NOt that there’s anything wrong with that of course, but I remember girls swooning over him back in the early 1990’s. It’s just a surprise, that’s all. Anyway, here’s one of their most popular songs ever.

B and I didn’t watch the concert all the way through because number 1, it was so freaking cold! and we were starving because we headed straight for the concert right after B got of work because we didn’t want to be late and have crappy seats. We did get great seats, like the view was great and all, but OMG we were seated among the most annoying people you’ll ever get the displeasure of seating with. You know the type, the group who keeps talking and who keeps moving on their seats and who keeps blocking your view. Ugh. So annoying.
