I love when I am walking around my Georgia garden and smell flowers in the air and am not quite sure where it is coming from. In the late spring it is the Tulip Poplars with their high rising flowers in the tree. Today it is the Stargazer Lily. They have just begun to bloom and I had forgotten. As I walked around the garden, I was thinking, is that a fabric softener scent from a neighbor next store? NO it is my favorite flower, a pink Stargazer Lily!

My Favorite Red Flower In The Garden-Amaryllis

It is such a treat when my favorite red flower, Amaryllis, blooms in my garden. At time of post, late May, it is in full bloom. I only have one at the moment but you can bet, since it is my favorite red flower, that next year I will either have a row or 2 planted or full blooms this time next year.

I must admit, I got lucky with my location of this flower because it gets sun but not such heat that is stresses with our hot summer Georgia days. I will be doing a bit of my own research to be sure I plant in the correct location and treat it with love and care. Here is a list of a view resources if you are interested as well.

Around A Winter Garden

I always look forward to the blooms of Helleborus in the Winter Garden each year. Just when it appears that all color is lost until Spring, these little flowers decide to show off their colors and subtle beauty.
This photo was taken by me on January 16th, 2016 and it is still blooming at time of post while snow rest on its leaves.

I wanted to give you more info. on this flowering shrub so here is an except below from Wikipedia:

Commonly known as hellebores, the Eurasian genus Helleborus comprises approximately 20 species of herbaceous or evergreen perennial flowering plants in the family Ranunculaceae, within which it gave its name to the tribe of Helleboreae. The scientific name Helleborus derives from the Greek name for H. orientalis, helléboros, from elein “to injure” and “food”. Many species are poisonous. Despite names such as “winter rose”, “Christmas rose” and “Lenten rose”, hellebores are not closely related to the rose family at all.
