Well, that’s it!  39 comics in and we’ve come to the end of Chapter 1/2, which I’ve combined and mushed into one installment. Mostly because a lot of chapter 2 was redundant in a lot of ways, and works better as a pulp chapter than a comic, but also because I know everyone wants to get to Mars. Well, here we go!

In about a month. I’m taking a break to tighten up the script I’ve written for the next installment and to work on getting Chaper 1 reformatted into something that I can make available in a print editions for con season. So never fear – I’m still be producing APoM material, just behind the scenes.

I’ve always thought it was a pretty ballsy move by ERB to not bother even explaining what’s going on here.  Quite frankly, I think he just didn’t care — it’s just the final McGuffin to get Burroughs up to Mars by whatever means he felt like.

It’s transition time!  This is another one of those times where Burroughs was a little wishy-washy with his time usage.  So we’re going to take a step back this week and look at Tom render a lovely sunset that sets us up for the final scene of the Chapter (really, Chapter 2).

CON SEASON!

Con season is upon us, and I’m confirmed at two so far.

Heroes Con
As always.  No table assignment yet, but I’ll be there, drawing my boney butt off.

Comic Book City Con
This is the inaugural year of this small, local convention. Comic Book City Con will be taking place on Saturday, October 26th & Sunday, October 27th of 2013 at the Empire Room in historic downtown Greensboro, NC

I’ll let everyone know when I know things like table assignments, and when I open up for pre-con commissions.

SKETCH CARD SETS

DC Legends: Superman
I’m a redemption artist on the set, and as such created an as-yet-unspecified number of oversized (4″ x 6″) sketch cards. Suffice to say, less than 10.  All are jams with the lovely and talented Danielle Gransaull.

Bombshells: Women of War
This set should be out and about any time now.  I completed 2 base (printed) cards, and 11 sketch cards.

Spellcasters
The latest set by Perna Studios. Due for release in about a month. I completed a base card and undisclosed number of sketch cards.

Once Bitten: Art of the Vampiress
I’m on this set by Asylum Studios. Set for release in August. It’s too early for me to discuss my contributions.

I think we’re starting to see why I decided to tag Carter with an arrow. Also, I think my reordering of the final scenes has worked out pretty well. We’re in the home stretch now.  You may also have noticed by now that I’ve eliminated the Apache coming across the cave in the mountain.  In this format it’s kind of repetitive and doesn’t serve much of a purpose in moving the (comic) story forward.

This is one of the comics that kind of flowed out of me. I think I had it fully penciled in an hour, and inked in another 2 or so.  Carter’s arms look a bit long in the first one, but that’s sort of on purpose, as I was playing with perspective a bit. I do kind of wish I had made it more obvious in panel #2 that Powell’s body is covered with Carter’s trenchcoat.

Thus passes Captain James Powell.  We hardly knew you.

Well, as you can see my pen nib arrived, and just in time!
