Official Doctor Who Convention - Free TARDIS Set Tour for Attendees

Here's a nice little freebie for those going to the Official Doctor Who Convention in Cardiff in March. For the next 48 hours, Convention Attendees will be able to book a FREE Tardis Set Tour at Upper Boat Studios. The press release reads:

Doctor Who Convention attendees now have a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit the TARDIS set at the BBC Wales studios at Upper Boat. These free tours will run on Saturday 24th March, Sunday 25th March and Monday 26th March 2012.

On the tour, visitors can step into the Eleventh Doctor's TARDIS and explore the set where some of the show's iconic scenes have been shot. The behind-the-scenes team will be on hand to explain the inner workings of the TARDIS, talk about the set and of course to answer any questions.

Please note:
This tour is available to Doctor Who Convention ticket holders ONLY.
For the next 48 hours this tour is exclusively available to current Doctor Who Convention ticket holders.
Spaces are strictly limited and are subject to availability.
Please allow approximately 2 hours 20 minutes for this activity. This includes journey time to and from the studio. Please note you will only be on the TARDIS set for a maximum of 30 minutes during this time.
Tours can be booked for any day, irrespective of the purchased Doctor Who Convention ticket date.

Doctor Who: Series 7 - Moffat promises at least 14 Episodes

“There will never be a better time to be a Doctor Who fan, I absolutely promise you that,” says showrunner Steven Moffat on the topic of the series’ forthcoming 50th anniversary in 2013.

When quizzed about Doctor Who’s return later in 2012, Moffat did his utmost to encourage fan speculation by saying that there would be “at least” 14 episodes (including the Christmas special) in series seven. Does this mean that we’ll be in for a longer run than usual? Watch the video above and let us know what you think.

• Time Lord wisdom #3: Doors are irresistible.
• It’s considerably more linear than last year’s Christmas special.
• It’s directed with style, filled with a fine sense of period atmosphere (think People’s Friend covers) and studded with memorable visuals: some moments feel folkloric, others trade in the kind of juicy juxtaposition that Doctor Who’s always been so brilliant at, colliding two realities together.
• Cake mix: Enid Blyton, with a pinch of Douglas Adams, a sprig of Star Wars and perhaps a buried sixpence in the form of Jason And The Argonauts.
• It lines up alongside The Green Death as one of Doctor Who’s more ecologically-minded stories.
• You may even feel a pang of conscience as you look at your Christmas tree. Now that’s subversive, Mr Moffat.
• Matt Smith delivers a smile that will smash your heart to pieces.

Doctor Who: Fan Made - Lego Dalek

The most evil being in the universe isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you consider Christmas – even when it’s made out of Lego.

But you can’t blame the Addis family for knocking up this impressive 7ft Dalek complete with a Santa hat out of the toy bricks.

After all, they’ve pretty much exhausted every festive idea over the past 18 Christmases, using thousands and thousands of Lego pieces to create everything from a snowman to a giant angel and a snow-covered church.

Each creation takes economics teacher Mike Addis, his wife Catherine Weightman and their children Tom, 18, Holly, 15, and Christopher, 13, up to 200 hours to complete from their plastic arsenal of 100,000 bricks.

The end result is then photographed and becomes the family’s Christmas card which they send out from their home in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

This year they ran out of seasonal ideas, hence the Dalek’s pride of place on the card with the Santa hat covering its dome and eyestalk.

Miss Weightman, 48, who works for Natural England, said: ‘We thought we’d have a bit of fun this year and build something a bit out of the ordinary, but obviously, we want to keep it quite festive.’

She added: ‘My husband and I loved messing about with Lego when we were children. Eighteen years ago some friends brought their children and some Lego round to our house to visit us and our new baby, Tom.

‘We decided it would be great fun to build something, and we realised we had a reasonable amount of bricks, so we started building.

‘The next year, we were all together at Christmas, and decided to do it again – and a family tradition was born.’

It takes the family so long to dismantle the sculptures that they invite their friends round for a ‘stacking party’ on Twelfth Night when the models are knocked over and bricks stacked into neat piles to be packed away until next year.

BBC Worldwide have uploaded a teaser trailer for a new Doctor Who game called The Eternity Clock. It is set to launch in early 2012 initially on Playstation 3, Playstation Vita and PC and is developed by Supermassive Games. Gamers can take on the role of the Doctor and River Song as they explore the universe of Doctor Who over multiple time periods.

The game will be released early next year, initially for Sony's Playstation 3 and Vita platforms and a PC version, and is being developed by Supermassive Games for BBC Worldwide Digital Entertainment and Games, and is written in collaboration with BBC Wales.

Both Matt Smith and Alex Kingston have reprised their roles of the Doctor and River Song respectively for the brand new storyline, which is to be presented in high definition, using photo-real graphics, television quality scenes and motion capture to create in-game characters.

Doctor Who: Movie - Steven Moffat denies Doctor Who 'reboot' film plan.

Steven Moffat has reassured viewers that Doctor Who will not be drastically changed for the big screen.

Speaking on Twitter, Moffat said a Doctor Who film "would certainly not be a Hollywood reboot".

Fans of the BBC One show had contacted him on the site after comments made by David Yates last month.

The director had said that the programme would need a "pretty big transformation to work in a bigger arena".

David Yates, who has directed four of the Harry Potter films, had also commented that the production team would have to "start from scratch", prompting fears from fans that a brand new cast would be brought in.

Steven Moffat responded: "To clarify, any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and would certainly not be a Hollywood reboot.

"David Yates was speaking off the cuff, on a red carpet. You've seen the rubbish I talk when I'm cornered."

Last month, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan discussed the movie rumours with Fearne Cotton on BBC Radio 1.

"I have absolutely know idea what [the film] will be about. I doubt we'll be in it," Smith said.

Gillan added: "There's always rumours about a Doctor Who film, I remember them saying Johnny Depp was going to be the doctor at one point.

David Yates has previously claimed that a movie would take years to produce.

It's likely that a new actor will have taken over from Matt Smith in the lead role by the time a film goes into production.

A new episode, The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe, is set to air on BBC One on Christmas Day.
