While this isn’t the most exhilirating photo, it gave me a chance to focus on elements and textures. As I explore macro photography, it will be important to look at a number of different angles and remember that sometimes the very things we are looking for are at our very feet.

Contemplation

I loved the shot of this monkey, he seemed so peaceful; almost as if he were meditating. A cropped version of a long shot, I was able to capture this silhouette by shooting into the light. Came out better than I figured it would, though I would love to be able to play with exposure and ISO settings to get a starker image.

Future stars

This was one of those candid moments that you’re lucky to capture. My daughter’s 6th grade class visited Washington, DC. On our way back to the hostel, we swung by the Washington Monument. Like moths to a flame, they flew toward the floodlights illuminating the spire. I was able to catch a glimpse of our future stars.

This shot was taken during a performance by a friend. Her husband Peter accompanied her on the djembe for her last song. The combination of motion and light is what I enjoy about this image. There was a barn window above and as the light streamed through it created a rainbow which hovered over his hands.

Reaching out

There was just something about this palm tree that caught my eye. I think it was the tendrils reaching out and the shapes formed. Almost like they were reaching out for something. I was glad to be able to include the boats in the background for depth.

Eyes

Something about this little guy just spoke to me. He was as interested in us as we were in him. This image is slightly retouched and cropped as I was shooting with my 40-150mm lens at full zoom. It’s a little underexposed, but I love his eyes. They are just so expressive, almost wistful. Add to wishlist – a longer zoom lens!

Emergence

This shot was taken at Newfound Lake in the spring. The fog gave it an almost mystical appeal. I also have the shot in landscape, but it seemed almost cliche, and there’s a bit more risk in presenting it in portrait. What I like most about the portrait design is the house on the point emerging from a stark, barren environment. There was more emptiness felt in the portrait. Fire and Ice

Caught this shot this morning at the docks in Center Harbor. Came out of the coffee shop across the street, looked up and grabbed the camera. I need to start working more with filters to really capture the warmth of the light, especially when shooting into the sun with lots of reflection. But I think this shot captured the spirit of the morning light.
