2011 Wedding Invite & Coordinating Items... A look back

I was able to work with some REALLY fabulous brides last year!! I love the result of all of their invites, each very unique!

I was really privileged to work with Jenni... she let my creativity flow and even asked me to coordinate the wedding reception site day-of. It was SO fun to see everything come together and it was BEAUTIFUL... just like the bride herself!!

Thanks for letting me in on your big day, ladies. You are the BEST!!

So, it's really been hard for me to find the time to blog! After moving, we've been working on getting the house just right... I got ANOTHER new job-one I am VERY fond of and I even told my boss he will have to fire me because I am NEVER leaving ;) Then, we had the holidays.

I have been steadily getting orders for all sorts of goodies- and by FAR my favorite things to get are CUSTOM requests.

Kelli contacted me about doing a couple items for her daughters' 1st birthday party, which was held November 13th... it turned into a complete party package and before the end of it I was shipping 3 HUGE boxes to Kelli!! I LOVED every second of making these items and just added them to my shop as a new collection because they are SO darn cute!!

I asked Kelli to let me share some pics here on my blog of the beautiful party she threw for little Olivia.

I haven't had the chance to update in SO long... A LOT has happened since my last post in July.

I've been VERY busy with my work- I got an order to Puerto Rico for a princess party & this week I got another to Australia for a red riding hood banner!!

I got a new "real" job AND we moved to our new house!!

I'm always busy with new orders, I have 3 right now, and I am always coming up with new ideas for the shop and my home that I often WISH I had enough time to make!! :)

What I've been working on...

Not exactly the same kinds of things I usually post, but I wanted to share with you my most favorite piece of furniture, ever!!

I envisioned this in my head for months.... I knew I wanted (and needed) a hutch for additional storage in the kitchen at the new house. I searched Craigslist over and over again- I'd find a great piece but too pricey. I'd find something within my price range, but too big for my space.

Then, I found the perfect piece!! It rained the day we were suppose to go get it- and she had two others coming to look. I was soooo upset. I told myself whats meant to be is to be.

She e-mailed me the next AM and said that she decided to save it for us. Whether or not this is true, I do not care. I was thrilled!! We closed on our house that day and then headed over to pick it up. It was the very first NEW HOUSE purchase- and it was perfect!!

I, sadly, didn't take any before pictures (I did take some in progress, but thats no fun!)... but here she is in all her glory!

I love her!!

Adorable fork, spoon & knife drawer pulls... I have a large fork and spoon from the current house that I am spraying yellow to add to the kitchen, too. I figured it would tie in and be super cute! ;)

The top hutch... I wanted something with doors ( I may eventually remove the glass and put in chicken wire!) and an openng where the hutch and buffet met to place plates (I have several awesome colors of Fiesta dishes I want to display)! An added bonus... I place to hang glasses and a small drawer for extra space!

Aganist the walls... they are two shades apart and I like how the hutch really pops... I will be adding sunflower yellow as a main accent color; along with shamrock green, lemongrass, cobalt blue & more turquoise!

From another angle... I didn't take any good close up shots, but I did distress it all over to give it an aged look. Perfect for the look I am going for throughout the new house!

And a rooster... from my fabulous Daddy!! I love them, and they are said to bring good luck. :)

{It's FUN to BEE Two!} G's 2nd BEEday party!

We woke to a VERY rainy spring day, here in MI. I had worked SO hard all day Friday to get it all set up, I think that by this point I didn't really MIND the rain, but with the cheerful theme some sun would have been nice ;) The BEEday girl woke with a smile and her face and kept talking about eating cake balls and cookies- so we knew she was excited ;)

We hosted the party at my parents' house... they live near by and their home is SO much bigger than ours and much more condusive to the ~~elaborate~~ party I was throwing ;)

We set it up in 3 rooms... The kitchen had the main event... a HUGE sweets table & a taco bar for lunch! YUMMO! The living room got turned into a dining area, gift table & photo prop station. The "porch" was also a dining area and decked out for the event. It all turned out great- everyone ate a lot, talked a lot and laughed a lot at my childs silly antics. Great day!! She was also SO polite when opening gifts and told each and every person "thank you". Little Miss Manners! Without further ado... PICS!!

Altering Frames... A Tutorial!

I LOVE to alter things. I have tins, boxes, bags- all saved in case I need to make something special in a pinch!

Well, here is another thing I found I can alter! FRAMES!

I bought an ADORABLE set from ScrapbookSteals a while back called Alphabet Soup. I bought it with the intent of letting G play with the flash cards & to use to decorate items in her soon to be "big girl" room (a HUGE post on that soon!).

I got to work yesterday and decided to show you how you can make your own adorable art work for your kids' rooms! :)

I took a frame that we had gotten as a gift before G was born:

And got out all my paper and supplies:

I then emptied the frame and covered the entire thing with Mod Podge:

I've never used Mod Podge before, so this was a new trial for me. Looks like I have to do a lot of projects... a little bit goes a LONG way!!

I laid out my 12x12 paper and made sure I was lining the frame up straight with the paper design. Luckily, I choose a paper that had a back side pattern that ran the same way so I could make sure it was just right.

After that, I took scissors and made sure I cut all the way up the sides to the edges in a diagonal fashion.

Then, I trimmed the extra paper- just make sure you leave enough to wrap all the way to the backside of the frame.

Next up, I poked a hole in the center of the frame and cut that in diagonals too.

As you can tell, it doesnt have to be perfect! I applied more Mod Podge to the inside edges and worked the paper up. It was squirting out, but not sticking all that well. So, I brought out the trusty ole Fabri-Tac. I am in love with that stuff. Really. It works for me everytime! ;)

After that, I used my bone folder to really crease the paper inside the edges and trimmed the excess. You can also use the edge of scissors to cut the extra. ;)

I then worked my way around all the edges, tucking in and gluing pieces.

Next, I cut a piece of scrapbook paper and embellished it to match her room. I made sure it fit properly with the glass and inserted it. We love owls!

It wasn't exactly right... so I went and got out some distressing ink and a sponge:

I worked it around the outside and inside picture edges.

You can see where a little mod podge squirted out on the upper right hand side. Oh well, gives it more character :)

{A Ribbon Wreath} My FIRST tutorial!!

Fun and fancy party ideas are EVERYWHERE!! For years I have ~~clogged up~~ saved lots of ideas on my favorites bar and planned to do them... I never did. Call me a slacker, if you must. ;) I had good intentions, but I became too busy or would find some GREATER idea before I could use the original one. Well, one of my many resolutions this year was to actually DO some of the projects I'd saved! I started with a cupcake liner wreath, which turned out SO cute. And, I must give thanks to the Tatertots & Jello Blog for sharing these fantabulous ideas with me!

Without further ado, here is how YOU can make your own adorable RIBBON WREATH!! I decided I wanted to do this for my daughter's second birthday... "It's Fun to BEE Two!" :)

What you need:
Foam wreath
LOTS of ribbon- I suggest 9-12 differet kinds (grosgrain or similar works best) and I kept all mine 7/8' wide and smaller, except for the ribbon I used to wrap the wreath, that was 1.5'
Hot glue gun and/or fabric glue
Scissors

** I ordered and bought ALL of my ribbon from Ribbons and Bows Oh My! They carry an AWESOME selection and sell most ribbons in 5 yard lengths, which is just about how much you will need of EACH color/design you use for this project! Their prices are spectacular, too. **

Get out all of your ribbon:

Okay... Start with a foam wreath.

Pick your base color for your wreath. I applied a small dab of glue on the back side of the wreath and began wrapping all around tightly. At the end I glued it done and held it tight until it dried. I cut off a little bit of excess that overlapped and this is what it looks like when you're done wrapping.

Next: Cut all of your ribbon into about 4.5" pieces... I measured the first one from each color and then just eyeballed it after that.

Now, if you have a sewing machine, you can use the tutorial that Tatertots & Jello posted, but I don't, so this was more time consuming, but still gets the same result!

I lined up 5 ribbon pieces at a time, then took my glue gun and made a ribbon down the ends. You want to leave some space at the ends, because thats how you will attach them to your foam wreath!

Then, fold over the pieces, you'll have to work pretty quickly if you do 5 at a time, and attach it to the other side, like so (please note how- a) fat and b) hairy- my hands are. This is why I don't do tutorials. I have MAN hands!! Don't judge :P)

This is how they look when done. Sometimes they kind of attach to each other with the glue, just rip them all apart.

This is how they should look at the ends:

I just tossed them in a box to the side until I had all my colors done. I used 9 total.

Begin working in small sections, I put the glue on the wreath, then took my ribbon, opened the ends and pressed down to attach...

Keep going in little groups all over. Then, go back and fill in.

Here is my finished wreath!! I just took a long piece of two ribbons and tied them at the top to hang. And, I attached a bee embellishment my mom gave me to tie in the Bee theme!

I didn't even end up using all of what I cut, but I also could have filled in a lot more. This pic shows the center, I didn't even go inside much to fill. I could have if I wanted to but I ~~have 18 billion other BEE projects to do~~ was happy with the result I had already!!

New Look!!

I have been super duper busy with orders... and with that came the idea that it was time that I updated my logo. I was using a bird before that someone created and I bought off Etsy. It wasn't special made for me- it wasn't one of a kind, and while I love birds, it didn't exactly fit what I was looking for.

So... I started to take note of other people's logos. And, of graphic designers. I found a few that I liked, but their prices were WAY out of my range. I am by no means a rich chick- yet, anyways :P

Then, I remembered that a girl I knew from TheBump had her own graphic design business. Jackpot!!! I ADORE her work! I contacted her and she put together a special package for me! She was excellent to work with and I'd recommend her to anyone looking for a new logo and/or blog design.

For now, I just went with a logo, but eventually I am going to have her re-vamp the bloggo, too. I have to commit to update more regularly, first, however ;) Can ya'll help me with that?! LOL.

As 2010 comes to a close...

I could say SO much about 2010. It was a horrible year, and a fabulous year at the same time.

My business has grown SO much thanks to the internet & referrals from friends and family. I have two wedding invite orders for 2011, plus one that I am helping my wonderful friend Sarah with. I have bridal shower invite orders, and a fabulous "It's fun to BEE two" party to plan for my own little lady. I'm in the works with some local ladies for a fabulous giveaway, and I now have over 220 FB fans!

I'm SO blessed to be able to do what I love... this invite and party planning business is what I have dreamed of my ENTIRE life.

I look forward to learning SO much more in 2011 from all the fabulous NEW friends I've made thru Children's Party Network, too.

Thanks for helping the newbie, ladies. You are ALL a wonderful inspiration! :)

The Purple Pug!

WoWeeee!!

It was literally the first word out of my mouth when Kristy from The Purple Pug messaged me on CPN about being featured on her blog! Kristy is doing a mission in kindness and featuring one fellow creative blogger/mom-preneaur/party princess every day for ONE year!! Amazing!

I'm humbled by the whole thing, and being part of such a wonderful experiment excites me.

Today, I was Pug Crush #41!!! Yippee! Kristy is so genuine and down to earth... she talks about me like Im some kind of stampin' goddess. Ha. I just LOVE my stamps! ;)

Holiday Cards...

Everyone knows I LOVE to make cards... I wish I sent more of my cards out more often. It just seems like I always get orders and get SO busy that my stuff comes last.

Christmas time is NO different. Seems like nowadays everyone sends photo cards, because really, no one sees one another all that often- photo cards are the PERFECT way to let your family and friends see how much you and the kiddies have changed in one year!

I don't ever consider myself as lazy, and I feel like I am *still* being creative, when I chose to make my own holiday cards using a site like Shutterfly. This year, I am loving the Merry Plaid and the With Love Chartreuse cards!! I like the flat cards, but the folded ones are perfect too! You can personalize each one at home, or have a message printed the same for everyone. What a time saver!

Because I am always on the quest to save some green, I often order cards and prints when I have a code. All you do is sign-up with them, upload your pics, and go to town! They e-mail you with deals often! :) It's perfect!

We are getting one these mugs for someone this year, complete with an adorable pic of Gracie, of course!

Last year I made two wall calendars, one for my mom and one for Kev's mom, of 12 months of Grace pics. FUN! They LOVED them!

The bride was pleased, and I was happy to have them done... so much work doing invites, I tell ya!! Now, I working on programs for her wedding ceremony and place cards for the reception. I'm thrilled to do both of these, I've never done either before. I got a chance to lay out the program the other day and I'm soooo happy with how it looks, hoping the bride likes it, too!!

I cannot believe that my daughters first birthday has come and (long!) gone!! It makes me sad and happy all at the same time!! I never got around to posting pictures of her big day... so here they are! :)
