            <title>Monday, 11th January 2010: Alexander Technique Course for Beginners</title>

            <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Start the New Year by letting go of some old habits that don't serve you! &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As an introductory course, this will give you a basic outline of the main principles underlying the Alexander Technique as developed by its founder, F M Alexander.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Through a series of enjoyable experiential games and discussion, you will become more self-aware and better understand your own body use and anatomy. You will also start the process of discovering how some of your habits interfere with the basic functioning of your body.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;You will learn how to apply the Alexander Technique and to begin to develop a different way of using your body for everyday activities such as sitting, standing, walking, picking up and putting down objects. You will learn also a lying down procedure which you will be asked to practice at home.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As the group is small, you will be guaranteed some hands-on work with Hilary, an experienced Alexander Technique Teacher. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;font color="#008080"&gt;&amp;nbsp;Discussion of the Basic Principles of the Alexander Technique&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;font color="#008080"&gt;&amp;nbsp;Experiential and Interactive Games&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;font color="#008080"&gt;&amp;nbsp;Hands-on guidance&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;font color="#008080"&gt;&amp;nbsp;Demonstrations&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;All participants may have a half-price follow-up 1:1 Alexander Technique lesson. &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Although this lesson is optional, it is highly recommended as gives you the best chance to find out just what an individual lesson is like, when you will have Hilary's undivided attention. The style is characterised by a tutor whose presence is alert, erect and graceful, and who never ceases explaining, describing, correcting and encouraging.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;font color="#008080"&gt; This was a strikingly gracious and assured performance, understood to include Hilary's physical presence, physical demonstrations and explanations of the postures and exercises.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;font color="#008080"&gt; Hilary adopts a very direct and engaging manner with her students, unobtrusively maintaining eye contact whenever addressing herself to the group, and managing to give each student in the class a good deal of attention...&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;font color="#008080"&gt; I thought Hilary particularly eloquent, providing apt and imaginative descriptions of the postures she wished her students to assume... Her gentle, flowing articulacy was both pleasurable in itself and suitable for the class she was taking. The instructions were also always notably precise.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;font color="#008080"&gt; When adjusting and correcting posture, Hilary handles her students with great delicacy and feeling - she has a real 'feel' for the human body. Hilary herself has a marvellous posture which is a splendid example for students to follow.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;font color="#008080"&gt; Hilary never stopped either demonstrating an exercise, correcting a posture, or advising or instructing the students.
