Because of too many eggs in the house, we decided to cook Leche Flan, one of my favorite desserts.

Leche flan is known in other parts of the world as Cream caramel or caramel flan. I don’t know how it is being prepared in other countries, but here in the Philippines, this famous dessert is made with condensed milk and lots of egg yolk and it is usually steamed over an open flame.

It was a few months ago that I saw a lot of Magnum ice cream photos on Facebook. I was wondering why people are talking about it and even made it their Facebook status and it was even a trending topic in most social networking sites. I was asking myself “What’s in that Magnum ice cream that people are crazy about?”. However, despite the popularity of it in social networking sites, I still didn’t bother to try it.

Until one day…

I was at SaveMore and sitting on their bench because I was waiting for someone. My little cousin was with me that day and he was bit bored in waiting. While sitting on the bench I saw a Magnum Ice Cream freezer in front of me. It was sold for P50.00 only. I told my cousin to buy one so we can try it. He refused because he feels like not eating ice cream that day. I told him that it was the ice cream that people are talking about on Facebook. He was excited. So we tried it.

At first bite, he said… “Oh Yummy, it taste like chocolate!”

I was laughing because he was really eating chocolate flavored ice cream.

What do you mean? I said. ”It taste like eating a real chocolate bar”, he said.

I was cleaning our room early this evening and I saw our huge framed wedding photo. Months after the wedding, I asked my husband to hang the picture on the wall. He wanted to hang it properly and he needed special tools, toggle bolts, screws and many others. I waited for him to hang it but because of his busy schedule I decided to keep the picture to keep it from breaking. I keep it inside a cabinet and after 5 years the framed wedding photo was still there.

Now that I have found it, I was reminded to ask him again to hang it. He promised to hang it when he comes back after his travel. I guess I will have to prepare the tools that he will need in order to get the frame hanged. For now, I will just have to wait till Friday. I hope he won’t forget to hang the frame when he comes back.

Every time we dine out, hubby would love to order Kare-Kare because it’s one of his favorite. I always wanted to try cooking this dish but I felt like it’s very difficult because I often heard a lot of comments that cooking Kare-Kare would take a lot of time.

Not until my aunt taught me how to cook Kare-Kare the easy way. She introduced me to Mama Sita’s Kare-Kare Mix (Peanut sauce). It’s one of the most important ingredient in her Kare-Kare dish. You can buy this in different grocery stores. At the back of the pack, you can read the complete recipe on how to cook Kare-Kare.

In most Kare-Kare recipes, an oxtail is a must. But if you don’t have an oxtail, you can either use any kind of meat but here at home we often buy the sliced pig’s feet.

Here’s the simple procedure:
1. Wash the meat, season with salt and boil it until tender.
2. Set aside the meat.
3. In a pan, saute garlic, onions and add the meat.
4. Open Mama Sita’s Kare-Kare Mix (Peanut Sauce) and dissolved it in hot water. You can use the water from the one you use in boiling the meat. Stir until everything is dissolved.
5. Pour the sauce into the pan, add vegetables and simmer for a few minutes.
6. Add peanut butter. This is to make your dish creamier. Other people do not anymore add peanut butter but the taste and texture is really different.

Note: There are other Kare-Kare ready to make sauce available in the market today. I have tried Del Monte Kare-Kare mix but I find it different with Mama Sita’s. I am not paid by Mama Sita in doing this post but I just find it the best for now.

Now, its time for you to cook your own version of Kare-Kare. Your spouses will surely love you more for this. Believe me! *wink-wink*
