Universal Studios Singapore - I Went and I Conquered!

When Stephanie was in Singapore, one of the places we visited was Universal Studios Singapore (USS) at Resorts World Sentosa. It's actually a funny story. At least my friends think it is. I have a phobia of roller coaster rides and I have never been on one in my 33 years of existence! No I am not exaggerating! I've been to Sunway Lagoon and Hong Kong Disneyland but not once did I get on a roller coaster. Heck, I gave away all the express passes in Hong Kong!

Before she got here, she made me promise I'll accompany her. to USS So I said "sure why not. what's the harm anyway right?". I'll just go there and hangout while she does her thing. Well when we got into the park, she kept bugging me to try at least one roller coaster ride. So after 15 minutes of "please baby? come on, just once! pleaseeeeee" I relented and got on the Revenge of the Mummy ride. I'll tell you this. I have never been more afraid for my life! The entire ride is in almost complete darkness and not being able to see what's coming up wasn't the best feeling in the world! I walked out of the ride with white palms because I was gripping the bar for dear life and I had cold sweat too! Guess what she asked me next? You guessed right. "Can we do the ride again baby?". I'm standing there wondering what the hell happened to JUST ONE RIDE!

I relented once again (don't ask me why) and took the Revenge of the Mummy ride for the second time. I took the Transformers ride too. I know this is the latest attraction at USS but I have to say that it wasn't all that it was made out to be. I didn't like it and I thought the storyline was flat. Moving on...

Some of you won't believe this but I took the Battlestar Galactica ride too! Heck I went on both the HUMAN and CYLON coasters. Not once but twice each! For someone that has a phobia of roller coasters and heights, I know I did pretty darn well. Just for kicks, we did the Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure (a cool river raft ride), the Canopy Flyer, the Madagascar: A Crate Adventure and we watched a screening of Shrek 4-D Adventure. I can now proclaim that I love roller coaster rides. You have no idea how good it felt to get rid of this phobia. Amen!

It's been a good start to 2012 and I can't wait for the next 11 months to roll by. For starters, I am now attached to a lovely girl by the name of Stephanie Janita Jolly. She's been such a joy and while we may be at opposite ends of the world, we're making it work! I know some of you aren't big on long distance relationships but she does have job offers here and if things go as planned, she'll be here in no time. And just in case you are wondering, she's from Sarawak but she's in the United Kingdom taking her degree. Yup she has brains!

I am a whole lot closer to my friends (I call them my brothers) from the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari. Yes we were close when I worked there back in 1995-1997 but we grew apart through the years. I've met them countless times since the start of the year. It's nice to have old friends back in my life!

I made a new friend. Isn't this owl just the most beautiful thing ever?

Work in the events industry is going well too. Rome wasn't built overnight and my plans and ambitions will take time to materialize. So I'm hanging in there and working as hard as I can.

I went crabbing with my good friend Vik the other day. What used to be a weekly activity is now bi-monthly. It's one of the few things I enjoy doing. I don't know if I enjoy the many beers we have or the thrill of catching something in our nets. I reckon it would be safe to put it down to the good company, many laughs and the friendly competition we both have...

I spent quality time with my sister Shyanne too. We went prawning at this nice place in Punggol Marina. As much as I love eating prawns, I can't seem to catch them! I caught ZERO while Shyanne caught TEN. We're gonna do this again soon and I will catch at least one. I know I will!!! As much of a camwhore Shyanne and I are, we didn't take any pictures. But...

I always find the supposedly gory pictures on the boxes of cigarettes in Singapore funny. Not once have I looked at it and gone "oh crap! that could be me!!". We Life Once So Just Leave Me Alone has been my motto for a long time.

Revelation 12-12 - Behind The Scenes

Two Thursdays ago I had the opportunity to do a little acting in a short film called Revelation 12-12. Directed by Eugene Tan, this Sci-fi action film was fun to work on. While I had a minimal role as a SWAT team officer, it was a fun project to do. It brought back a lot of good memories from my acting days.

So yeah, it was nice meeting the cast and production crew (Deborah, Douglas, Shireen, Sunny, etc...). I hear this short film might eventually become a feature film. That's something to look forward to for sure! Here are some pictures from the set of Revelation 12-12...

Concorde Hotel Singapore - Weekend Afternoon Tea Buffet

On Sunday, my neighbour Felicia and I went to Concorde Hotel Singapore for their popular Weekend Afternoon Tea Buffet. I had vouchers for two after hosting their foster children party last December. You can't imagine how hungry I was that afternoon. I skipped breakfast so by the time we got to the hotel at 2pm, I was starving!

The cool thing about this buffet is that they have really good local dishes on the buffet line. While they do have Japanese favourites such as sashimi and sushi, dishes like bak kut teh, kway chap, paper wrapped chicken and dim sum dominated the array of food. They even have a counter where you can make your own rojak and ice kacang. Those are fun things to do! There was even a roti prata station where a chef, non Indian I might add, that would toss and prepare the prata with your choice of filling (durian, kaya, peanut butter and chocolate).

Malaysia Cup - Singapore Lions XII Home and Away Jerseys

With two days to go, it looks like Singapore will not have an all red home jersey for our return to the Malaysia Cup. While some fans are unhappy, I can understand why the FAS would want to differentiate the Singapore Lions XII from our national team. After all, it's a separate team with different coaches.

So these are our home and away jerseys by Nike. I prefer the blue away jersey. What about you?

I first saw Sheikh Haikel on local television in the now-defunct Asia Bagus competition in 1993. There was just something about the man that screamed "WATCH ME". He was part of a duo that called themselves 'Construction Sight' and they went on to win the competition. And rightfully so I might add. Quite simply, they were that good!

Three years later, Haikel showed up on the big screens as Johari Salleh in Army Daze. It's by far my favourite Singapore made movie. In fact, I don't know of anyone that didn't like Army Daze. It was a movie that Singaporeans all of races could relate to. It had a stellar cast and no matter how many times I watch it, I find it absolutely downright hilarious! For it to earn S$1,600,000 at the local box office back in those days was just phenomenal.

I'll never be able to understand why there are people that dislike or hate Sheikh Haikel. I've seen comments on forums and I've heard people talk smack. I reckon it could be down to jealously. Could it be because he is successful? Or maybe because he married a babe called Anna Belle Francis and their pathetic little brains couldn't understand why they fell madly in love?! For the record, I call them the Royal couple of the Singapore entertainment scene. They send loving tweets to each other all the time, have two beautiful children and both of them are talented. It's cute watching them on OKTO's Knockout.

I have met Haikel twice. Once at the Dads for Life conference and the other time was at Timbre Substation. He was really friendly and he came across as a fantastic down to earth guy.

Ok let's talk about his music for a bit. I dig his song 'Still Steady'. The short music he did with football stars from the past is pretty cool as well. It would be fitting to use this song for the LIONSXII when we return to the Malaysia Cup. I mean, after all these years we've been out of the cup and now that we are returning, we're Still Steady. How's that for an idea FAS?!

I am really looking forward to 2012. I know some think that the world will end come 21st December. Quite frankly, there are days when I think these people are absolutely right. We've seen the destruction caused by mother nature across the globe, the needless wars and the unrest in the Middle East and Africa. Don't even get me started on the millions that are suffering from poverty.

But let's try to be positive this year. I know it will be a great year for me. I worked extremely hard in 2011 to lay the foundation for 2012. I believe I have formed a great team of like minded individuals that want success as much as I do and in turn, I have promised them nothing but the best from me. The team will continue to grow and we will embark on great projects in the coming weeks and months.

I don't want to reveal too much about what we are working on because that wouldn't be good business sense but I can tell you about a few projects...

Acting

The last time I acted in a production was in 2003 and this was for Mediacorp Channel 5. It's been what 7 years since I did any form of acting but the wait will end this Thursday. I've been cast as a SWAT team officer for a local production and I can't wait to play out my role. I've been watching movies like S.W.A.T to help me prep and I might watch Hostage later. Woot!

Emceeing

I am going back to my roots this year! I emceed here and there in 2011 and I made a decision to do this full-time. Emceeing is something I wanted to do when I was 16 years old. But somehow I lost my focus with the many ups and downs life has thrown at me. Now I have an artiste manager that will keep me in line and she has been doing a fantastic job so far. I have a personal DJ that I not only love as a colleague but as a brother. So yeah, I know this will work out well...

I have had a number of offers thrown my way since I announced my departure from the previous “you know what”. I want to thank these people for their interest and I'm sure I can do something with all of them. So that's something fans can look forward to very soon.

Charity

I want to do as many charity gigs as I possibly can this year. I think life is all about giving and if a charity organization thinks I can contribute in some way, I'll be more than willing to help.

I don't like making new year resolutions because I hardly live up to them. But an hour or so ago, my artiste manager Sakina made me promise that I won't work for free this year unless it's a charity gig. So I guess that counts as a new years resolution? I might as well throw in a few more. I plan on eating right and exercising. I reunited with god a month ago and I'm in a much better place. I pray for my ex wife and son every night and I'm even praying for the people that I once hated. This can only be a good thing and I will use 2012 to get closer to god.

To my fans, I love you for the support you've continued to show. You guys are just an awesome bunch. I wish you the best for 2012 and god bless always. ROCK ON 2012!

Please be informed that I am no longer part of the R3load Network team. For the past 7 months, I had the great honour of hosting both the 'Singapore Haunted' and 'Tattooed' web tv shows. While my hosting services were voluntarily and there wasn't any monetary gain other than the kind sponsorship by TattoocaineZ (two episodes), I have met many great individuals along the way and I extend my gratitude to my network of friends from the tattoo community for appearing as artists from episode one to seven of 'Tattooed'.

The primary reason we parted ways was because of the different direction and beliefs that the network and I had. My belief is that the viewers interests should always take priority and if a show is promoted as a weekly show, it should be online for viewing as promised in the show's tagline. On this note, I wish to apologize to the fans of 'Tattooed' for having to cut the season short.

To the sponsors, ROSS WATCH and TattoocaineZ, thank you for believing and working with me and we will continue to work closely with one another on my blog and other future projects.

To my fans, a big thank you for being with me from day one when I started blogging and hosting my first show 'Skin Art'. Rest assured you will be seeing more of me in 2012.

Burger Ramly

I know it's called Ramly Burger in Singapore but because it's a Malaysian product, it should be Burger Ramly. That's what it's called there! It's like you don't order roti prata when you're in Malaysia. Instead, it's Roti Chennai.

Now that I have put that useless point across, I would like to talk about this most amazing Burger Ramly I had on the way back to Singapore. I had a choice between beef or chicken and my lord, I am thankful I chose chicken. Heck, I chose the chicken special with extra cheese! It had an omelette, chilli, mayonnaise, shredded cabbage, cucumbers and tomatoes.

I had a major mouth orgasm halfway through the burger. Words just can't describe how good it was! If you can imagine cumming with your mouth, then you'll get what I mean!

If you do visit Malaysia or anywhere in Asia, forget about eating in your hotel or at a restaurant. Go for the roadside stalls. Have the prawn noodles in Penang or the Bombay burger in India. I eat food from street stalls anywhere and everywhere I go. It's where you'll find the best food in the world. Just don't think too much about hygiene and you'll be fine!

Harith Iskandar - Malaysian Stand-Up Comedian

I had the prividlge of watching the very funny Harith Iskandar during the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards 2011. Singaporeans would remember Harith from Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd. You know, the Malaysian version of PCK?! Anyway, Harith sure as hell doesn't need to dress like a woman *tsk tsk* to be funny!

The Angry Bird Tattoo & R3LOAD Network

My most recent ink on my latest show TATTOOED, the Angry Birds tattoo, seems to be getting a fair amount of talk on the internet! Some think it's cool and some think it's corny. Then there are some that don't understand why I would agree to such a tattoo. After all, I have been advising both teenagers and adults to think carefully before they get inked. Well let's put it this way. I have a show that's propelling myself to the next level where I want to be at. Every tattoo I've gotten since the show started does have a meaning. When I look at the tattoos (6 so far), I think of this show and it makes me smile. Even on the lousiest days! So that's good enough for me.

I.Z and I are breaking boundaries with every episode that's done. Be it Singapore Haunted or TATTOOED. There's a whole lot of hard work that goes into the shows that people don't see. Drama, bickering, bitching, romantic meals and a nice amount of alcohol has gotten us this far.

I look forward to being in-charge of artiste and event management for R3LOAD Network in the coming year. If you dream of becoming a star, we might just be the people that could help you achieve that dream. It'll take hard work and a whole lot of determination. But if you can do that, you've won half the battle. The other half would be talent.

The Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards 2011

After three beer guzzling days in Kuala Lumpur, we are back from the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards 2011. After everything that has gone on this year, this trip was something I needed. You know what?! The trip totally rocked!!! I had so much fun with the coolest people walking this planet. It's a fact that WE bloggers are cool! Heh!

The Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards 2011 saw 13 finalists walk away as winners and these folks from all over the region now have boasting rights!

I wish I have pictures of the official After-Party at ZOUK KL but I was too busy drinking to even think about camwhoring! But I do have a picture of my roadside Lok Lok meal! We left ZOUK half an hour before the buses arrived just so we could stuff our faces...

The second day saw us wake up at 10 in the morning. Wait, my roomie and I were supposed to wake up at 8am for breakfast but we overslept. We have a good reason though. We partied at ZOUK till two in the morning, got back to the hotel and stayed up chatting till five in the morning!

The tour of KL by Malaysia, Truly Asia brought us to Tugu Gardens, Lake Gardens and Dataran Merdeka before dropping us off at Suria KLCC. Suria KLCC is located at the base of the Petronas Twin Towers. This spectacular building is a true Malaysian gem. If you are ever in Kuala Lumpur, be sure to look at her at night. She's absolutely gorgeous!

Our second night in KL saw us party at The VIEW at GTower Hotel. The VIEW is a decent rooftop club that's nestled over 30 floors up. As with the previous night, I got smashed from the never ending flow of drinks. A little lady got me to bottoms up way too many beers and vodkas and the fact that she had 10 Cosmos in an hour says a lot about the fun person that she is... =)

Noel: I believe in giving compliments when it's due. With that said, I need to state that you are an absolute gorgeous woman! I read on your Twitter profile that you model. Can you tell us more about that?

Heather: Thank you! I started modeling back in Michigan when I was a teenager for Kmart and then moved to California at the age of 20 where I continue to model to this day. Of course modeling has taken a backseat to Tattooing for the last 14 years but I still enjoy doing photo shoots and hope to do more in the future! I have done everything from runway to print to commercials to film!

Noel: If you had to choose between modeling and tattooing, which would it be?

Heather: I love them both and have not had to choose yet! But Tattooing is winning at this point! Lol!

Noel: Fair enough! So when did you start tattooing?

Heather: I started in 1996!

Noel: What made you want to become a tattoo artist?

Heather: I have been painting and drawing since I was kid! It really was a natural progression for me from drawing to tattooing.

Noel: That's cool. What kind of tattoos would you say you specialize in?

Heather: My style is always evolving but I tend to gravitate toward tattoos that look more like oil paintings or woodcuts.

Noel: Is there a particular tattoo you have enjoyed doing? It could be your favorite piece.

Heather: I did a portrait style Tattoo of Bela Lugosi that I absolutely love! I think that is my favorite right now.

Noel: That's an awesome tattoo! Can you describe the tattoos you have on your body?

Heather: I have a lot! This may take up the whole interview! I have a Jack O Lantern on my chest, a Geisha cat on my thigh, LA city scape on my back with wings, a phoenix on my calf, a hell horse on my other calf, a female griffon, a whole Japanese dragon sleeve and a butterfly on the back of my neck… I think that’s it!

Noel: That is an impressive collection! Let's talk about your studio for a bit. You are the co-owner of The Tattoo Room. In your own words, tell us about the studio and why your studio rocks!

Heather: I Love Love Love my shop!! I love Danielle Oberosler, my business partner! She is the best of the best!! It is the best environment I have have ever worked in! All our clients love the atmosphere too!

Noel: You will be a part of something awesome in January. You'll be starring in Spike TV's new reality tattoo show called “Ink Master”!!! How hyped up are you about it? I bet you are bouncing off the walls!

Heather: I am very excited and nervous about the show! Curious to see how they edited it. It was quite an experience for me. Not at all what I was expecting!

Noel: What can you tell us about the show?

Heather: The series is called “Ink Master” and it premieres on Tuesday, January 17 2012 at 10 PM ET/PT and 9 PM CT. There are eight, one hour episodes of “Ink Master.” Episodes premiere weekly on Tuesdays at 10 PM ET/PT and then re-air several times over the course of the week. The finale is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6.

Noel: Where can we watch "Ink Master"?

Heather: The series premieres on Spike. Spike is a national cable network aimed towards men 18-34 and has more than 99.8 million subscribers in the United States & Canada. Spike is a division of Viacom Media Networks (formerly known as MTV Networks).

Noel: What is "Ink Master" all about Heather?

Heather: This is the first ever-tattoo competition reality show and there are 10 contestants (meet the cast). All of us are competing for the title of ‘Ink Master,’ a cash prize of US$100,000 and an editorial feature in Inked magazine. The series was shot this past August in and around NYC.

The series is hosted by Dave Navarro, of the popular alternative band Jane’s Addiction and judges for “Ink Master” are renown and respected tattoo artists like Chris Nunez, known to TV audiences from his stint on “Miami Ink,” and Oliver Peck. There will be several guest judges who have ties to the tattoo world-community including the following people...Todd Weinberger (creative director of Inked magazine), Scott Campbell, Jack Rudy, Chris Andersen (NBA player for Denver Nuggets) and Ton Jones (host of Spike TV’s series “Auction Hunters”).

Eeny Meeny Miny...Moe Alkaff!

There are three Singaporean entertainers that I've looked up to since a kid. Most of you know that I think Gurmit Singh is a great guy and I think the world of him. I have also blogged about this teacher, Mr M. Ismail, I had back in my secondary school days that thought me the fine basics of being a host. Some of you might be going "wait a minute! how is a teacher an entertainer?!". Well I was getting to it! You see, before this talented man became a teacher, he was a singer. He performed countless times on television back in the day. Now both of his sons are performing in the best damn rock band (Energy) in Singapore!

Now there's one more guy that I have not blogged about yet. His name is Moe Alkaff. For the love of god I can't recall how old I was when I first saw Moe on stage. I was probably eight or nine years old. If he does read this, he'll kick my ass for making him sound old!

Anyway, he used to emcee children themed shows at Raffles City. I remember him doing Ghostbusters and Micro Machines. So every Saturday and Sunday, I would take the bus down to Raffles City and just sit by the stage and watch this man perform. Heck unlike the emcees today, Moe was and still is the full package. He and his dancers from Moezik Events International would do an intro and closing dance and they would perform skits as well. After every show of his I would tell myself "I want to be Moe when I grow up!".

So meeting him and having a great conversation last Saturday is something I'll treasure for a long time to come. He gave me advise which I'll share here. "Enjoy the fame that you have now. Love it and treasure it. But don't ever let it control you. Don't let it change you. Your head must never get bigger. If you can do that, you will go far!". If this advise works for you, then great! It'll make two of us!

Who likes being sick? Unless you have an engagement that you so don't wanna do, you'll hate being sick!

But unlike most of you, I can't take most medication. I'm always cursing the fact I have severe drug allergies. It ain't funny to be in my shoes!

Thankfully, I think, I have these little bottles of goodness that help get me by whenever I'm down with the flu. Meet C1000 and Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa!
