Ex-Harris County Texas Deputy Andrew Sustaita, Headed to Prison for Child Porn and Beastiality

A former Harris County Sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to prison for 27 years in a case involving child pornography that a veteran federal judge called “one of the most disagreeable cases” of his career.

Andrew C. Sustaita Jr., 31, a former patrol officer, stood handcuffed in an orange jail uniform and rubber shoes, as U.S. District Judge Sim Lake handed down the lengthy sentence. The judge added a lifetime of supervised release as a registered sex offender, and ordered Sustaita to have no contact with children without the express permission of a probation officer.

The judge said images found on Sustaita’s electronic devices of babies and children being sexually abused were “some of most horrific” he’d seen. Lake was particularly troubled that the crime involved multiple lewd videos of a young girl who was an invited guest for a sleepover in 2015 at Sustaita’s home.

The former Harris County Sheriff's deputy was also accused of performing a sexual act with a dog on camera.

Detective Jeff Payne Who Arrested Utah Nurse Placed on Administrative Leave

The Salt Lake City dickhead police officer named Jeff Payne, who arrested and assaulted a nurse for refusing a blood draw from an unconscious patient, was placed on administrative leave, according to the mayor's office this morning.

In a body cam video taken July 26 at the University of Utah Medical Center that went viral Friday, nurse Alex Wubbels is seen explaining to Salt Lake detective Jeff Payne that she couldn't allow a blood draw on a patient who had been injured in a car accident. Wubbels told Payne that the patient is required to be conscious to give consent, unless the patient is under arrest or if officers had a warrant.

Wubbels points out to Payne that these parameters are spelled out in an agreement between the hospital and the department.

Despite the warning, Detective Payne is heard saying, "We are done, we are done, you are under arrest."

Payne can then be seen man-handling Wubbels and cuffing her as she screams, "You're assaulting me stop! I've done nothing wrong! This is crazy! This is crazy!"

In the video, Payne's partner could be heard trying to calm his partner down during the arrest.

Another officer is heard saying, "I don't think this arrest is going to stick."

The hospital security camera also captured parts of the incident, including what appears to be officers forcing her outside.

Mayor Jackie Biskupski said there will be a criminal investigation by the Salt Lake City police department and the district attorney. As a result of the criminal investigation, the officer is being placed on full administrative leave.

"The only job I have is to keep my patient safe," Wubbels said in a press conference Friday.

The University of Utah said in a statement that Wubbels had "followed procedures and protocols in this matter and was acting in her patient's best interest," according to CBS affiliate KUTV.

Two San Antonio Cops Busted for Driving Drunk

Well it looks like two of San Antonio PD's finest were caught more than a little tipsy behind the wheel. Both have been arrested for driving while intoxicated overnight, the San Antonio Police Department announced early Friday.

SAPD officer Gena Rodriguez, 39, was arrested just after 10 p.m. Thursday after causing a three-car accident. Inside the vehicle at the time of the accident were her three children, one in a child safety-seat, SAPD said.

Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt in the accident but Rodriguez, an 11-year veteran of the force, was arrested at the scene.

Then early Friday morning 46-year-old Harold Thomaston, a 20-year veteran, was pulled over after running a red light in front of an officer. He has been booked on a DWI charge.

San Antonio police chief William McManus said in a statement released Friday that he is disappointed that the officers would put public lives at risk.

Both officers have now been placed on administrative leave pending both internal and criminal investigations.

For one Harris County deputy, the good news is that he has been released from jail this morning. The bad news is that he if facing some pretty creepy charges of having sexual intercourse with a dog.

A sheriff's deputy is out on bond this morning, charged after he allegedly posted video of himself performing a sex act with an animal.

Andrew C. Sustaita Jr., a six-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, is accused of allegedly posting a video of himself performing a sex act with a dog. Sustaita was most recently assigned to the Crime Control Division and has since been relieved of duty.

Sustaita was fingered as a suspect during the course of an investigation managed by the sheriff's high tech crime unit. Investigators were alerted about obscene material coming from an account in Harris County. An investigation reveals that Sustaita was allegedly involved in producing obscene material online.

Harris County Sheriff's Office wouldn't talk about the nature of the video. However, sources confirmed to KTRK-TV in Houston the video depicts Sustaita engaged in bestiality with a small dog.

"The possession of obscene and illicit material is made even more troubling when a sheriff's office employee is found to be involved," Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

"Every resource of this office will be dedicated to protecting the public and holding our employees accountable for wrongdoing."

The deputy comes from a law enforcement family, and they said they are waiting for more information.

Sustaita’s father, also named Andrew Sustaita, says he is devastated to hear about the allegations involving his son. He describes his son as a hard worker, and says that he is reacting like any father would.

Sustaita is charged with obscenity, a state jail felony.

Before coming to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Sustaita's LinkedIn profile said he was a U.S. Army specialist, and also worked at Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office.

A source who knows the deputy tells Eyewitness News, in his experience and knowledge, he knows him as an honorable and committed family man.

Sustaita is expected in court by tomorrow. Investigators say more charges could be filed.

Tulsa Cop Who Shot Terence Crutcher Facing Manslaughter Charges

On Thursday, prosecutors in Tulsa, Oklahoma filed manslaughter charges against a white police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man on a city street.

Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler filed the charges against officer Betty Shelby, who shot and killed 40-year-old Terence Crutcher on Sept. 16. The dashcam and aerial footage of the shooting and its aftermath depicted Crutcher walking away from Shelby with his arms in the air.

The footage does not offer a clear view of when Shelby fired the single shot that killed Crutcher. Shelby's attorney has said Crutcher was not following police commands and that she opened fire when the man began to reach into his SUV window.

But Crutcher's family, however, denies that claim, saying the father of four posed no threat to the officers. Police have verified that Crutcher did not have a gun on him or in his vehicle.

Shelby has been a member of the Tulsa Police Department since December of 2011. She was en route to a domestic violence call when she encountered Crutcher's vehicle abandoned on a city street, straddling the center line. Shelby did not activate her patrol car's dashboard camera, so no footage exists of what first happened between the two before other officers arrived.

The police footage shows Crutcher approaching the driver's side of the SUV, then more officers walk up and Crutcher appears to lower his hands and place them on the vehicle. A man inside a police helicopter overhead says: "That looks like a bad dude, too. Probably on something."

As officers surround Crutcher, he suddenly drops to the ground. A voice heard on police radio says: "Shots fired!" The officers back away and Crutcher is left unattended on the street for about two minutes before an officer puts on medical gloves and begins to attend to him.

Earlier this year, a former volunteer deputy with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office was sentenced to four years in prison after he was convicted of second-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of Eric Harris.

Police Officer That Killed Passenger During a Traffic Stop in Minnesota Identified

We now know the identity of the police officer who fatally shot black school cafeteria worker Philando Castile during a routine traffic stop Wednesday. Authorities have ruled the death a homicide.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) identified the police officer as 28-year-old Jeronimo Yanez. It also identified another cop on the scene as officer Joseph Kauser. Both officers have been with the St. Anthony Police Department for four years.

Yanez opened fire on Castile Wednesday, and footage of the aftermath - in which the school worker lost consciousness - was live-streamed through Facebook by Castile's girlfriend Diamond Reynolds.

Trigger-Happy Baton Rouge Cop Identified: Blane Salamoni Killed Alton Sterling

The trigger-happy Baton Rouge police officer that killed a subdued black man, Alton Sterling, has been identified.

Officer Blane Michael Salamoni, 28, has been a police officer for four years. He was caught on cell phone video shooting and killing Alton Sterling early Tuesday morning. Salamoni, a third generation law enforcement officer, is the officer without the hat in the deadly cell phone video.

The video shows Salamoni yelling at Sterling to stop moving before pressing a handgun into the 37-year-old’s chest and pulling the trigger. About six shots are heard in the clips, and though neither video clearly shows Salamoni firing all of the shots, the Baton Rouge Police Department has said only one officer killed Sterling. Salamoni is heard crying “F***!” after the shooting ...

Officer Blane Salamoni has a history of abuse. He had a complaint sustained against him, for which he received a letter of caution in an automobile crash in June 2012. He was accused of improperly carrying out orders in a vehicle pursuit in July 2015 and using force on August 2015 in hurting someone he was trying to arrest. Both of the latter incidents were found “not sustained” records show.

The other officer seen in the cell phone videos has been identified as Officer Howie Lake II, a three-year veteran of the force. While the Baton Rouge Police Department has identified the two officers, they have remained silent about the actual firing of weapons.

Officer Howie Lake II also has a history of abuse. He had a use of force complaint lodged against him in April 2014, for injuring a 15-year-old boy while trying to arrest him. In another incident in December of that year, Lake was accused of using force after responding to an incident in which another officer fired at an armed man, striking the man. Records show Lake was “exonerated” of both complaints.

Texas Trooper Brian Encinia Indicted, Fired Over Sandra Bland Traffic Stop

The Texas state trooper who arrested Sandra Bland after a questionable traffic stop last summer was fired on Wednesday after being charged with perjury for allegedly lying about his confrontation with Bland, who died three days later in jail.

In an affidavit, Trooper Brian Encinia claimed that Bland was "combative and uncooperative" after he pulled her over and ordered her out of her car. The grand jury pointed to that particular affidavit in charging Encinia with perjury, according to special prosecutor Shawn McDonald.

Hours after the indictment, the Texas Department of Public Safety said it would "begin termination proceedings" against Encinia, who has been on paid desk duty since Bland was found dead in her cell.

Bland's arrest and death, both of which authorities ruled a suicide, sparked national outrage and drew the attention of the Black Lives Matter movement. Protesters pointed to the similarities of Bland to other black suspects who were killed in confrontations with police or died in police custody, including Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and Freddie Gray in Baltimore.

Video of the stop shows Encinia drawing his stun gun and telling Bland, "I will light you up!" She can later be heard off-camera screaming that he's about to break her wrists and complaining that he knocked her head into the ground.

Encinia's affidavit stated he "removed her from her vehicle to further conduct a safer traffic investigation," but grand jurors "found that statement to be false," said McDonald, one of five special prosecutors appointed to investigate.

Bland was taken to the Waller County jail in Hempstead, about 50 miles northwest of Houston. Three days later, she was found hanging from a jail cell partition with a plastic garbage bag around her neck. The grand jury has already declined to charge any sheriff's officials or jailers in her death.

The perjury charge is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum of one year in jail and a $4,000 fine. Encinia was not immediately taken into custody, and an arraignment date has not yet been announced. Encinia could not immediately be reached for comment; a cellphone number for him was no longer working.

Bland's sister, Sharon Cooper, told The Associated Press that Encinia's indictment was "bittersweet." Encinia also faces a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Bland's family.

"We have always felt from the onset, from our viewing of the dashcam video, is what happened to Sandy was largely impacted by the fatal encounter that she had with Officer Encinia," Cooper said.

Cannon Lambert, an attorney for the family, said Encinia should have also been indicted for assault, battery or abuse of his official power.

"The public deserves accountability," Lambert said. "If you don't have public accountability, you don't have public trust. I want the public to be able to trust the police."

About two dozen protesters attended Wednesday's news conference where the indictment was announced. One protester's sign read, "Legalize black skin."

Speaking afterward, one protester, Jinaki Muhammad, called the misdemeanor charge "a slap in the face to the Bland family."

Encinia pulled Bland over on July 10 for making an improper lane change near Prairie View A&M University, her alma mater, where she had just interviewed and accepted a job. Dashcam video from Encinia's patrol car shows that the traffic stop quickly became confrontational.

The video shows the trooper drawing his stun gun after Bland refuses to get out of her car. Bland eventually steps out of the vehicle, and Encinia orders her to the side of the road. The confrontation continues off-camera but is still audible.

Encinia wrote in his affidavit that he had Bland exit the vehicle and handcuffed her after she became combative, and that she swung her elbows at him and kicked him in his right shin. Encinia said he then used force "to subdue Bland to the ground," and she continued to fight back. He arrested her for assault on a public servant.

Another of Bland's sisters, Shante Needham, has said Bland called her from jail the day after her arrest, saying she'd been arrested but didn't know why, and that an officer had placed his knee in her back and injured her arm.

Her family has said they were working to get money for her bail when they learned of her death.

Cooper, her sister, said Wednesday that the family still has unanswered questions about what happened in the days before her death.

"Our family's grieving process is at a standstill," she said.

A Texas state trooper accused of stopping a driver for speeding and offering her $300 to have sex with him, was freed on bond Tuesday after his arrest.

Bexar County magistrate records show Department of Public Safety Trooper Christopher Champion, 31, was charged with soliciting prostitution and official oppression after his arrest Monday night.

Online jail records don't list bond details or an attorney to speak for the trooper.

Investigators say the traffic stop happened in September.

The trooper is accused of using the woman's cellphone to text himself, to get her contact information, before she left without getting a ticket.

An arrest warrant says the woman contacted Texas Rangers, who recorded the conversation when she and the trooper spoke later.

The DPS said the trooper has been fired.

Former HPD Officer Accused of Sexual Assault of Child

A former Houston police officer was arrested Monday and charged with sexual assault involving a child, according to the Texas City Police Department.

The former HPD officer has been identified as 54-year-old Abel Diaz Rodriguez, who is facing three counts of sexual assault of a child. Officials said he has bonds totaling $120,000 and will be transferred to the Galveston County Jail.

According to investigators, the charges are all related to one victim, who is 15 years old.

Texas City police said Rodriguez served in the Houston Police Department for 25 years. He has been retired for eight years.

Austin Police Excessive Force Caught on Cam; Family Assaulted, Dog Kicked

A recent arrest in Austin, Texas clearly demonstrates why police activities should definitely be videotaped.

Louis Aguilar was tased and beaten by Austin's finest. While the video doesn’t show why the police were called, it appears that a man was attempting to comply with officers and make his way outside. However, for the police officers, this wasn't good enough. They wanted to demonstrate their authority. They do this, as the video depicts, by showing three Austin police officers dragging Louis onto his porch and starting a fight with the entire family.

At first, only one officer who was hands on, but once the video gets rolling, a second officer shows up and begins to violently twist Aguilar’s arms. This is only made harder by the other officer already struggling with Louis. The third officer who shows up places his hands around the guys neck and pulls him by his head the rest of the way out of the door. Eventually he is taken to the ground, tased twice and punched. When the family members verbally protest the assault the cops begin to abuse them.

A younger brother steps in, after police tased his older brother. One of the cops slams him to the ground and shoves him into the wall.

While the younger brother is part of the abuse of power and excessive force, the family dog jumps in and bites the ankle of the officer who is attacking the younger brother. The tiny dog is kicked across the porch. The younger brother is taken to the ground and then the officer who was struggling with Louis punches him in the face, as Louis is saying “Please don’t do this”.

Well done, officers. Do you feel like real men now?

San Antonio Cop Jackie Len Neal Headed to Jail for Rape

A former San Antonio police officer will be spending 14 months in a state jail without parole after pleading no contest to improper sexual activity with a woman who accused him of raping her in his patrol car while on duty.

Jackie Len Neal was sentenced Monday under a plea agreement that also carries a $5,000 fine and a requirement that he surrender his state peace officer's certificate.

Neal was arrested in November 2013 on a sexual assault charge the day after a 19-year-old woman said she was raped during a traffic stop. He was fired the same day he was indicted in February 2014.

Neal also must pay a $2.1 civil judgment to the woman. Neal contends the sex was consensual.

Houston Police Officer Juan Carillo & Wife Charged With Transporting Illegal Immigrants

An officer with the Houston Police Department, along with his wife, has been charged with transporting illegal immigrants.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent arrested Juan Carillo, 51, and his wife, 42-year-old Rosa Carillo on Sunday, after the couple was pulled over in Big Wells.

Court documents reveal that Carillo admitted that his wife paid a coyote $1,500 to have two of their passengers smuggled across the Mexican border.

Carillo told border agents that he paid another $240 to have the illegal immigrants delivered to Eagle Pass.

The couple faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000 each if convicted.

After their court appearance on Monday, Carillo and his wife were released after posting $10,000 bonds.

Homeland Security Investigations is investigating this case along with the U.S. Border Patrol.

Carillo is a 21-year-old veteran of HPD who works in the Southeast Patrol Unit.

An Amarillo police officer who was fired amid allegations he sexually assaulted a woman while on duty will not be prosecuted.

On Tuesday, a Potter County grand jury decided not to indict former Officer Micah Meurer. He was originally charged with sexual assault and official oppression.

Meurer was fired June 15, a day after investigators say he was dispatched to a 22-year-old woman's home. She filed a complaint saying Meurer sexually assaulted her. Police say Meurer was fired for violating internal rules.

Amarillo police declined to release details of the call for assistance.

A prosecutor says Meurer had responded to a call about a suspicious person. Attorneys for the woman say the incident was a domestic violence call.

A former Cy-Fair school district police officer, who pulled over a female motorist and then asked to lick her feet, has been sentenced to 1 year in jail.

Patrick Quinn, a 27-year-old former police officer, pleaded guilty to official oppression. He was sentenced on Wednesday in Houston.

According to court documents, Quinn stopped the woman in August 2014 and found marijuana paraphernalia but told her he had a foot fetish and would release her if she let him lick her feet or give him her underwear. Investigators say he then changed his mind and let her go.

When a law enforcement officer is allegedly shot at point-blank range multiple times, while simply filling-up his vehicle at a local gas station, it would be easy to rally for him. And that’s exactly what happened in the case of Deputy Darren Goforth.

The husband and father was gunned down at a Cypress gas station a little less than a month ago in an apparent ambush. Surveillance video at the gas station led to the arrest of Shannon Miles.

The case inspired several thousand people to march in Goforth’s memory, while the city created a huge memorial at the site of the murder, and thousands and thousands of dollars were raised for Goforth’s family. On all the nightly newscasts, the word Goforth was repeated, almost to overkill.

A document became part of the public record. It was sent, as required by state prosecutors, to the defense, that claims a woman seen at the murder scene cradling the deputy's body and screaming told investigators she had a relationship with Goforth.

In newly revealed court documents dated Sept. 16 and obtained by ABC News, the unidentified female “witness” to his death says her relationship with the father of two was "during the preceding 15 months."

A police officer in Oklahoma is accused of sex crimes against a teen girl after the victim’s grandmother discovered evidence of an inappropriate relationship on the 14-year-old’s phone.

Valley Brook Police Officer Courtney Schlinke, 21, is facing 33 complaints, including 16 counts of rape by instrumentation, nine counts of lewd acts with a child under 16 and eight counts of oral sodomy, according to NewsOK.

The victim’s grandmother, Jeanne England, told News 9, "She's a psychopath. She's evil. She's a predator."

According to investigators, the victim's family went to police July 1 after discovering disturbing photos and messages between her and Schlinke on her phone. The evidence appears to date back almost a year, but police believe the sexual relationship could have gone on longer.

Schlinke has been very active on social media, including Twitter, posting numerous photos of herself and the victim, whom she referred to as her “girlfriend.”

The ex-cop also tweeted cryptic messages that said, "I forget your age sometimes" and "I don't wanna hide you anymore."

Courtney Schlinke had been with the department since February, but resigned from her job in an unrelated personnel matter July 20. She was arrested a week later. Valley Brook Police Chief Michael Stamp said Schlinke was still in training, but had been doing police work under a trained officer, according to NewsOK.

"It's unfortunate," Stamp told News 9. "We as police officers are held to a higher standard."

Schlinke remains in Oklahoma County jail on $1.1 million bond. She is scheduled to appear via video feed at an arraignment hearing in Oklahoma County Court on Thursday.

According to Ellis County jail records, ex-Maypearl police Chief Kevin Coffey is behind bars and being held on $350,000 bond.

The Maypearl City Council gathered on Saturday, intending to fire the 49-year-old Coffey, but instead accepted his resignation.

Coffey was arrested and taken into custody on Wednesday, charged with sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child by exposure, indecency with a child by sexual contact and sexual performance by a child.

Coffey was put on administrative leave with pay July 13 after searches of his home and the police station. Investigators say the girl is now 16.

Maypearl is a town of about 900, located 30 miles southwest of Dallas.

A South Texas police officer is out of jail after being arrested for soliciting a prostitute, according to media reports.

Weslaco Police Lt. Adan Sanchez, 54, was arrested Wednesday evening after McAllen police said he solicited a woman for sex in exchange for money, spokesman Lt. Joel Morales told The McAllen Monitor.

According to the Weslaco Police Chief, Sanchez has been placed on administrative leave with pay during the investigation.
