The Shaper Origin is the first handheld CNC router. It is essentially a plunge router that features a display screen and integrated computer control technology for cutting precise shapes and designs. The tool is moved by the operator, but the Origin computer controls when the bit is engaged in the workpiece. As the operator follows the cutting pattern which is displayed on the screen, the router engages the bit only in the designated cutting area. If the operator moves off line, the computer raises the bit to stop the cutting.
