There’s a new trend right now with wedding cake design – super flowers. No, these flowers can’t leap over buildings in a single bound, they are just really big flowers on your wedding cake. It’s certainly an eye-catcher, don’t you think?

I have to say, I do love this very large coral rose on the stark white wedding cake. It’s elegant yet fun at the same time. And if roses aren’t your thing, I’m thinking perhaps peonies or magnolia blossoms might look amazing!

Red, White, and Blue Wedding Ice Cream Sandwiches

Ah summer…it’s almost here and that means summer weddings! And what’s more fun to eat in the summer than ice cream? Which got me thinking – what about ice cream sandwiches at a wedding?

Look at those patriotic ice cream sandwiches! They are beyond cute – and they’re red velvet shortbread, so that’s even better. How perfect would those be for a wedding favor on Memorial Day weekend or the 4th of July? Or maybe you’re thinking forget the favors, these are a great substitution for the wedding cake. Personally I love the idea of everyone getting their own cake and ice cream in a cute little package.

Buttons and Quilting Light Blue and Raspberry Wedding Cake

Raspberry and blue – it’s one of those happy color combinations. It’s bright and springy and this cake showcases the perfection of these two colors.

I am loving the simple beauty of this cake from the buttons to the quilted frosting to the simple “Love” on the bottom tier. The pearl embellishments between the cake layers are elegant and flirty and fun. Then there’s the adorable cake topper – love those little blue lovebirds. And let’s not forget the very cute and always popular cupcakes and cake pops on the side. You can never have too much cake.

Creative Wedding Cake Favors: A Candy Bar

Everyone loves candy, right? My sweet tooth always wins in a battle of willpower. Which is why I absolutely LOVE the idea of a candy bar for wedding guests.

No. Not just one single candy bar. I’m talking about a bar full of candy.

Think about all the sweet options – rock candy, lemon candies, jelly beans, Jordan almonds, M&Ms in your wedding colors, gum drops. The sweet choices are endless. You can even find vintage candy online. The “candy bar” can be assembled with different size glass jars and then guests can pick and choose their favorites. Chinese take out containers are a super cute “take home” option, or you could use cute and colorful candy bags.

A word of caution with any candy bar – if your wedding is outside, keep the candy out of the sun and avoid all things chocolate, otherwise you might have a melted mess!

White Wedding Cake with Succulents and Teal Trim

There is an easy beauty to this cake – it makes me think of an outdoor late spring or early summer wedding, maybe at a botanical garden, surrounded by bright colorful flowers. This cake would look amazing in a setting like that.

I am loving the simple frosting and the second tier wrapped in delicate lace. But what I love most about this cake is the succulents. This seems to be a common trend with simple wedding cakes – brides are forgoing the bright flowers and adding simple yet stunning succulents instead. And it works. Especially with the added muted color of the flowers.

It’s simple. And elegant. And stunning. The perfect spring or summer cake.

Let’s Celebrate! Wedding Cake

Since it seems like Mother Nature finally has her act together and has allowed spring to stay for a while, what better way to celebrate a wedding than this stunner of a cake? I feel all springy just looking at it.

Why do I love this cake? Let me count the ways. First, it has polka dots and stripes. And the colors are so pretty together – just think of the fresh flowers you could add to the cake – gerbera daisies or little roses would be so stunning. I really love the simple beauty of the cake. It’s modern and flirty and fun.

And really, aren’t you happier just looking at this cake? I know I am!

Cake Topper Friday: Lego Bride and Groom Kit

This could possibly be the most hilarious (and fun) wedding cake topper.

Ever.

Not only will it look adorable on top of the cake – and give guests a great laugh – but as an added bonus, you and the groom-t0-be get to put it together. All 24 pieces of it. And, just in case you aren’t a brunette, the Lego bride also comes with blonde and black hair. The bride also comes with a veil and a Lego flower bouquet. Personally, I love that the little Lego groom is holding what appears to be a glass of champagne!

Royal Icing Monogram Wedding Cake

I am shopping for monogrammed stationery; ergo, I am naming this Monogrammed Wedding Cake Week. I know…it’s already Wednesday. But there’s time to catch up.

I absolutely adore this idea, especially for a small wedding. But even if your gathering is large-ish, what a beautiful cake! And so much prettier than a sheetcake, if you tend to be super practical and cost cutting.

The design was inspired by vintage stationery – love love LOVE. It’s so awesome when you take the beauty of everyday, utilitarian things, and translate to something like a wedding cake, don’t you think? I bet that the printer never in a MILLION years gazed off into the middle distance and thought to himself, “Gee, I bet a bride uses this design for her cake someday.”

But I totally would. A blue background (natch!), with rolled fondant vining leaves and flowers, frames a smaller cake with the couples’ (presumably) shared monogram. It’s simple, elegant, and beautiful.

Wedding Cake DIY: Gerbera Daisies on Separated Tiers

This cake reminded me so much of my friend Christen that I just had to share it with you.

Christen used to contribute regularly to A Wedding Cake Blog, and I know that she still loves to keep up with all the Sweet and Pretty that we feature here. And this cake actually reminds me of her for two reasons: A) she LURVES gerbera daisies. And B) her wedding cake was made of separated tiers like this one.

Actually, I think this would be a really fun and unique way for a bride or groom who loves to bake to turn their cake into a DIY project. A deconstructed wedding cake like this one is no more difficult to put together than so many layer cakes, after all. And if you keep the frosting simple, then decorating is a breeze. The embellishments become all about extra touches, like the big, dramatic blooms and festive bunting you see here.

Succulent and Bramble Wedding Cake

I’m feeling all minimalist-y this morning, y’all.

I didn’t think I was. I thought I was feeling all spring-in-bloom-y. But then I spied this beautiful cake, and I realized I was wrong.

Just like the beauty of the summer Texas landscape, this cake captures the essence of less is more. Succulents hint at plants that spend their raindrops wisely. Bramble shows us that pretty can be found any- and everywhere.

My love of succulents on a wedding cake has popped up before. So you’re probably not all that shocked. But the sparse character of this tableau is just lovely. The weathered table. The quirky cake server. The tin cakestand. Just. Lovely. All.
