10 Ways to Teach Your Children Godly Character This Summer

Today I wanted to share a few ways to teach your children godly character through the summer.

This might be your first year that you purposefully decide to try to instill more character in them--or you just might feel your children need to focus more on it! (Don't we all feel that way sometimes?) Our children are definitely not perfect and we always should be trying to reach their hearts with the truth of God's word.

Whether you just want to choose one thing or ALL, feel free to pick and choose! Maybe you used to do all these things but just need to get back on track, summer is definitely a great time to do it. We are personally planning to do several of these things of the list.

Here we go:

1. Begin a consistent Bible reading/devotional time. Be sure to include prayer. We always need to be pro-active about getting the Word of God into our children and the most important thing you can do is help them to have a regular time with God that will bring them into their adult years. If your children are small just read a children's Bible to them.

2. Bible verse memorization. Maybe a verse, a chapter, or whole books. Don't forget to also learn fun facts, for example..how many books of the bible are there, where did such and such take place. I liked this Bible Fun Fact book and the children enjoyed it too. Small children can listen to scripture CD's to learn verses a designated times of the day or before going to sleep at night.

3. Work through a character work book together. Polished Cornerstones and Plants Grown Up not only has solid character training teaching but also offer smorgasbord of fun and meaningful activities or skills!

4. Start a summer reading list and include inspiring stories of the faith, martyrs, and biographies of past Christian heroes or inspirational men and women who have come before us. For more Christian book/magazine ideas click here.

5. Watch movies--Don't just grab any old movie, but be purposeful! Go to your local Christian bookstore or your library and grab some inspiringly refreshing movies that make for great conversation later. Also use movies from this site to teach a biblical worldview.

6. Give them jobs. Summer is not just for lazing around and lamenting about how bored they are. Get the rest and fun in but be sure to give them some jobs to help around the house. Organizing, cleaning, mowing the grass, organizing a garage sale, plant a vegetable garden, mending, sewing, cooking, home repairs, cleaning their room, learning an instrument, washing the car, are all great ways to teach teach the principal or hard work, diligence and perseverance, which are all godly traits that should be reinforced.

7. If you kids are older have them watch/listen to sermons or biblical teaching online. He who walks with the wise becomes wise. Now your children can walk with very wise preachers who live across the globe. Download podcasts or use You Tube and have them listen! For younger kids, I recommend Cedarmont Kids and Jonathan Park.

8. Join in activities with your local church. There are many great godly men and women to tap into at church and lots of opportunities to volunteer and for outreach.

9. Volunteer to help. Whether it be in a food pantry, an volunteer organization, bringing a new mom a meal or baking cookies or cleaning the yard for the widow down the street, or making food packages for the poor, we can reach out with helping hands in special ways to our community.

10. Spread the gospel. A few years back we used to buy some modern tracts and spread them in our neighborhood, stores and parking lots. But there are many ways to do this. You can bake a loaf of bread or gift and attach a card and give it to a neighbor/friend or invite them over and show some good old fashioned Christian hospitality. You can share the gospel to the masses at home too. A few of my children in the past had set up blogs just so they could help spread the word about Jesus (they also learn valuable writing skills, typing, communication and computer skills).

And most importantly have fun with the list

and don't forget to give your children grace--it's summer after all!

We have been spending a good portion of the past few months winding down school, ending out the sports season, and having a lot of people over the last few weeks. Our family is definitely ready for some fun and relaxation after all of that!

Now we all have summer fun on our minds so I thought I would share a quick post about some frugal summer fun ideas to do with your family and make some cherished memories along the way.

Savoring the Slow

In case you have noticed things have been very quiet here one the blog.

We have been enjoying a summer break chock full of rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation.

And just learning to savor the slow.

Yes, and I mean learning.

Slow does not come naturally to me. In fact, I am always aware of time and how much of it there is. I like to pack a punch in my days so I had to learn to sit down and breathe, look around, and take in all the blessed lovely around me.

Am I describing you? Do you have trouble not being in the busyness of life? Do you get swallowed up by all that is around you---the demands, the schedule, the to-do lists?

We have been:

reading books

putting in the garden

enjoying movie nights

going on long walks

visiting the park

spending time with extended family

rocking in my rocking chair and just "being" and thinking

taking time to smell flowers

watching clouds roll by

catching bunnies

spending time together on some home projects

(peonies from my garden)

I recently heard a sermon on depression about the importance of taking care of yourself, since so many of us neglect doing that nowadays. Through instilling into our lifestyles:

Rest
Recreation
Reduction of commitments and things in your life
Routine
Rethinking how we do things and looking at them
Reprioritizing
Refueling

I will share more on that in a future post.

But today I just want you to think about the things that you have been putting off.

The things you keep saying "I'll do that when I get time".

Don't wait to do these things--live your life now because it is a gift to you and it might not be there tomorrow.

Tomorrow is not promised so let us stop to take the time to take a deep breath and relax. To work in some slow into our daily lives so we really feel like we are living and not just at the mercies of our hectic "schedules". To stop and really look into our children's eyes. To sing a song with them. To get off social media and take the time to just think instead. To pick some flowers. To actually pause and hear the birds chirp and to be grateful.

Grateful for another day here on earth.

I hope you will be encouraged like I am by these Bible verses on rest:

And He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14

Only a Dad

It's almost Father's Day so we wanted to honor all the fathers who work hard and love their families and sacrifice everything for them.

A Champion in Disguise

There's a champion in disguise among us.....it is likely this champion is not obvious to you. His deeds are courageous and life changing for those to whom he gives his life. He is disguised as a father. His humble cloak conceals his greatness, yet his deeds, in all likelihood, will form the character of the next generation. His deeds include wiping noses and changing diapers, teaching his boys to work, and his girls to guard their dignity.

His job description includes providing a wall of protection, to guard his children's hearts; yet he must lead them to greater challenges--which at times seems more than they can bear, with in mind, the day will come in which he will not be there.

This unnoticed hero is doing the vital work of instilling virtue, honor, and courage deep within the hearts of those who look to him for guidance. Their minds recall his praise, his encouragement, his challenge, and his correction for decades.

He must be in disguise because if the strength of his influence captured the public eye, they might tempt him away from his duty to his children for less noble endeavors. Giving all his strength and crying out for more, he does the arduous, often overlooked task, of being a dad.

He may not receive the praise of a speech well given, a corporation built, or wealth accumulated--he may not receive our notice for his great physique, golf course tan, or the sports car in his garage--but he is still a champion.

He is a father.

Without him, our culture will fall.

We have seen in our nation that as God has been removed what the aftermath has been--the breaking down of society and families. It is further saddening to see fatherless homes. I believe that the role of fatherhood is integral to the family while culture would fallaciously mislead us to believe that dads are unnecessary and disposable. This special note was written from a friend, a godly dad whose desire was to encourage dads this past Father's day. My prayer is that as wives, we would also recognize the importance of godly fathers and truly respect and value them.

Graduation Gift Ideas

Do you have a high school or college graduate this year?

Last year we had graduated our twin sons, Josiah and Christian. I had experienced a roller coaster of bittersweet emotions ranging from complete giddiness that the year is over to the unexpected tears when I realize they won't be joining our homeschool for the coming year. Their senior year went by pretty quickly with three sports -football, basketball, and volleyball, and the blur of taking senior photos and prom at the end (they both had dates this year!) and all the group hangouts. Memorial Day - Freedom Isn't Free {& Helpful Resources}

The Memorial Day weekend is around the corner and I thought it would be a great time to share with our children the true meaning of the day.

We all know that freedom isn't free and that many had to pay the ultimate price with their lives.

My father fought in the Vietnam War and one day while they were there he was in a helicopter close to the ground with his best friend and his friend was shot in the head right in front of him and didn't make it.

I think about how that could have been my dad, and even how that had affected him over the years. He devoted his entire life serving in the military afterwards (Air Force, VFW & Navy). My heart and deep gratitude goes out to all those that bravely sacrificed everything for our country.

So, parents, let us teach this generation about the cost of freedom, while we support our military, and remember to honor and thank them. Let's share the stories with them so they will know our history.

We like to put up flags and similar decor around the house to remember the day and then keep them up all summer for the 4th of July. We take them out on that day for the kids for them to use at our annual parade. We keep the ones outdoors up all year 'round.

Keeping Things Simple to Be a Better Mother

With the barrage of voices that tell us everyday how to be a good mother, from parenting magazines to Pinterest, we need not lose our way in the maze of motherhood, but instead return to the simplicities which just make good common sense. The most important thing is TIME with our children. Our culture has found so many ways to steal away this precious time and thus eliminating very valuable discipleship time from the home. We need to regain it while practicing some simple helps.

Here is a list of things that might be helpful:

1. Keep homemaking simple. Many moms can get very overwhelmed with caring for our homes at times and just don't know where to start some days. Have a basic plan to tackle the basics during the week. Start easy and keep it simple so that you can keep an easy routine. Example: Monday-Cleaning Tuesday-Baking Wednesday-Shopping/Errands, etc. Keeping a planner or just writing out a simple list in the morning can also do wonders for any mother and give us focus for the day! Also, keep decor to a minimum or you might become a slave to their upkeep.

2. Guard your time. It is so important for moms to guard their time, we can be easily distracted with so many things with our "good intentions". It is often good for us to take a step back and reevaluate how our spiritual life is going, if our bigger goals are being met, and if we are truly investing wise time with our children. Try asking your husband if he feels you are using your time well and also read this article for help more help. Then we need to purposefully take the appropriate steps to make change.

3. Eat simply. Even though I like flipping through cooking magazines on occasion of gourmet homemade dishes from scratch, I don't feel the pressure to replicate the same in my home. We are a big family and I like to keep meals simple. Did you know that you can eat healthier without always cooking? When you buy fresh vegetables such as lettuces, carrots, tomatoes and so forth you are giving your children healthy whole foods that is better than anything you could probably whip up cooking! Don't feel guilty about not always cooking but know you can serve them something fresh and wholesome that will bring health to their bodies. This is also fast (think of it as fast food without all the gunk) and eliminating the work of washing pots and pans. If you do cook, be sure to take advantage of your crockpot. I use mine in the morning to make dinner and don't touch it again until dinner.

4. Reduce clutter and excess. Oh, how I could go on about this topic for days. As a large family is a we are constantly looking for ways to keep the clutter down to better our living areas. Toys, clothes, and everything else just have a way of multiplying so mamas always need to do an inventory and assess what they *really* need. Less toys and clothes make for easy care and frees up valuable time to do the important things. Do your kids really need 39 outfits each? Do they play with *all* their toys? If not, box them up and give them away or store them in the garage. If you need inspiration on controlling clutter, this author is my go to for inspiration.

5. Don't compare. You know what I am talking about, maybe it is your friend, your relative, an influencer on Instagram, or a favorite blog, but suddenly you find yourself not liking your home, your children, your husband, your dog, your decor, and on and on. Stop it right now. Really, just stop and remember that the Lord gave you these things in His providence. Be thankful for it and all His many blessings on your life because in the end, we don't deserve it--any of it.

6. Throw out guilt. Live freely, dear Mamas, don't feel like you are not measuring up. Guilt is an amazing energy zapper and hindrance in a mother's life. Find out what the Lord wants you to do with *your* family and then DO IT. Don't do what your neighbors are doing, or what the SuperMom Next Door is doing. Don't feel bad that you are not making bread from scratch or if you are using paper plates at meal time. Don't let others dictate your life and don't dwell in past failures. But remember who you are in Christ and remember that He has equipped you for every good work--including motherhood.

Let's simplify our live in practical ways so we can mother well and build strong families for the Lord!

Dear Lord, help us to order our lives well to bring glory to You and through our mothering. Amen.

Mothers Resting at Home

Our culture believes that if we are not being active, not always on the go, and not keeping jam-packed schedules then we are not living life to the full. Homes have become mere hotels for just sleeping and eating. Children and parents can be like ships passing eachother in the night.

But mothers need time at home. They need time to rest and to build a strong Christian culture within their four walls. They need to have time to think, to read the Bible, to evaluate what is*really* going on their children's lives. To block out the voices in this world that pressures them to conform.

We need time to meditate on God's word. To pray over our husbands. To create a home atmosphere and to put our heart into what matters. To have heart-felt conversations and love those around us. To make time for that special project we have been yearning to do. All this is good for the soul and the home and family will be better for it too.

If we are always rushing here and there and not protecting the precious time the Lord has given us, our homes and our children can be found wanting. Busyness for the sake of "doing" can even lead to emptiness and depression if we are not careful. We can squander time instead using it well.

Mothers, please know that even if the world is swirling around before us, it cannot control the atmosphere of our homes. This is where we have control--this is where we can shift the gears and slow the pace down.

Remember these truths:

I do not have to be a slave to another's schedule or plans for my life--nor my children.

I can focus on what matters and watch over the affairs of my home.

I can find contentment in trusting in Him.

I can find joy in loving those around me.

I can build up a strong home for His glory.

You Can Never Lose Your Mother!

Do you need some encouragement in motherhood? I thought I would share these wise words on mothers from one of my favorite preachers. I hope you enjoy and are truly inspired by it. 

Here it is:
"Do not be deceived! God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows—he will also reap!" Galatians 6:7
Though all are born "dead in trespasses and sins;" in another sense, when a baby is born—its life is only a patch of soil in which, as yet, nothing is growing. A mother's hand is the first to plant seeds there—in the looks of tender love which her eyes dart into the child's soul, in her smiles and caresses and croonings, and her thousand efforts to reach the child's heart and shape its powers; and then in the lessons which she teaches...
...All our thoughts, words, and acts—are seeds. They have in them a quality which makes them grow where they fall, reproducing themselves. This is true of the good we do. The mother's teachings enter the mind and heart of her child as mere seeds; but they reappear in the life of the son or daughter, in later years, in strength and beauty, in nobleness of character, and in usefulness of life. Not only is this strange power in the mother's words; her acts, her habits, her tones of voice, the influences that go forth from her life—are also seeds, having in them a vital principle. Where they lodge—they grow.
You can never lose your mother! She may die, and her body may be buried out of your sight, and laid away in God's acre. You will see her face and hear her voice no more; no more will her hand scatter the good seeds of truth and love, upon your life's garden. But you have not lost her!
Your mind and heart are full of the seeds which fell from her hand along the years. These you never can lose. No hand of death can root them out of your life. They have grown into the very fibers of your character. They reappear in your habits, your dispositions, your feelings and opinions, your modes of thought, your very phrases and forms of speech! You can never lose your mother; the threads of her life are woven inextricably into your life!"

Dear Mothers of Young Children

"Mothers of young children, your work is most holy. You are fashioning the destinies of immortal souls. The powers folded up in the little ones that you hushed to sleep in your bosoms last night, are powers that shall exist forever. You are preparing them for their immortal destiny and influence. Be faithful. Take up your sacred burden reverently. Be sure that your heart is pure and that your life is sweet and clean.

God...made childhood joyous, full of life, bubbling over with laughter, playful, bright and sunny. We should put into their childhood days just as much sunshine and gladness, just as much cheerful pleasure as possible. Pour in the sunshine about them in youth. Let them be happy, encourage all innocent joy, provide pleasant games for them, romp and play with them; be a child again among them. Then God's blessing will come upon your home, and your children will grow up sunny-hearted, gentle, affectionate, joyous themselves and joy-bearers to the world."

Dear Mothers, Don't Quit!

Dear Mothers, have you had a hard month?

Do you feel like you are being stretched thin?

Are you discouraged?

I recently stumbled upon a poem that might encourage your heart.

It is one on perseverance and meant to be read in the home:

Don't Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must but don't quit.

Life is strange with its twist and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow-
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a fair and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out-
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

A Mother Builds a Happy Home

Rather than society influencing the home it ought to be the Christian home influencing society.

Righteousness brings beauty of character. Character creates harmony in the home. Harmony in the home fosters order to civilization...isn't this what is meant by "the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world?"

Therefore, let us remember our position, fulfilling our office of queen with a kind of friendly dignity. It is a noble, high, important, and sometimes difficult position...

But God will guide our steps if we keep our eyes on He who appointed us. And we will find joy within the authoritative yet loving relationship we were meant to establish with our children."

Oh ladies, I know that the work of building a happy home can become tiring, demanding and depressing at times if we are not careful to guard our thoughts. We can easy become disillusioned but we must keep our thoughts on the Lord--He is our Helper and our Comforter and will guide us through all of our difficult times and trials. My advice is not to become so distracted with the many voices in the world because the main voice we need to hear is God's. Open your Bible and fill yourself with truth until you are overflowing and be sober-minded instead of filling yourself with confusion and lies from the enemy who is a liar.

WHAT I AM DOING THIS WEEK

This week on the homefront I have been getting our homeschooling spaces reading for getting back to school. Our local schools start this week and some of the children are sad that summer is ending so quickly for us all. Honestly, this summer flew by in a blink of an eye and I am wondering where time went. We still have not gone to the beach yet! No worries, though, we are trying to fit it in within the next two weeks.

I am getting excited about school this year--I am adopting more of an mindframe of "if I were on a deserted island" or "if this was my last year to teach the kids ever again what would I teach?" this year. I am loving what I am picking out and the fun things I have been pinning on my homeschooling Pinterest board. We are going to have a ton of fun while learning this year!

But it is bittersweet again because my oldest son is a senior this year. Time has gone by so quickly and somehow when a child is a senior I sometimes get heavy hearted picking out their curriculum for their last year. Can you mama's out there relate?

I am so grateful for homeschooling because the time goes by so quickly and before you know it that time is gone. You look up one day and see a young man (woman) about to start his (her) life. I am so grateful I was able to spend so much of their childhood right along side with them!

Now as I gather pencils and paper--- I am reminded that I am nearing fifty. I now know what matters and what doesn't matter as far as my children are concerned and I want to spend this coming year focusing on what matters to God and not what others tell me to do!

THE CHALLENGE QUESTION

This week, ladies, I would love for us to focus our hearts on the Lord. Is there anything distracting you from Him? Your phone, social media, Netflix, too many unnecessary activities? Be still and fill yourself to overflowing with His Word. Don't go onto the battle ground without your battle gear. His Word is what sustains us and guides in times when our flesh is weak. Use your time wisely and build a happy home that brings Him glory!

This is War--The Battle for Our Children's Souls

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm." Ephesians 6:10-13

Dear parent, did you know?

There is a battle. A war that is going on this very minute.

A battle being waged for the souls of your children.

It is in the spiritual realm...you cannot see it.

But it is there.

There are some that know to fight. They pick up the Bible, they take the time for the heart to heart conversation when it is hard, they do battle on their knees in the quiet of the night.

But it breaks my heart to know that the enemy has many of us in a foggy daze and has disillusioned us from the crucial reality of what is really taking place.

We overlook it.

We deny it.

We turn a blind eye.

We are distracted with all the toys and temptations of this world.

We say we are too tired to deal with it.

Until it is too late.

But parent, this does not need to be so.

We need to rise up now and take hold of the weapons that the Lord has given us. There is victory in Him and we are not powerless against the evil one.

" But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ

-1 Corinthians 15:57

We need to take the time to talk to our children, to mentor them, to know them and their hearts. To find out what their deepest thoughts and struggles are and never grow weary guiding them towards the Gospel. In this big eternal picture we know that we can take nothing out of this world, but if our children are saved we know that they will go to heaven with us.

I recently watched a video of a woman who said she was only able to spend just an hour a day with her two daughters because she held several jobs and volunteer activities in the community. She became burned out and wanted to spend more time with her children. So she quit her jobs and volunteering and began working from home to be with them. She knew there was more to this life that what the world was telling her was important. She turned against the tide and bucked what society dictated as the typical expected role of her. She was so grateful that she didn't waste her time on the things that didn't matter and instead to be able to be able to free herself up to focus on what really did. And regardless whether we work or not, we need to make sure to prioritize our time with our children with the time that we do have.

The days and minutes are fleeting when it comes to our sons and daughters. The things that seem important to us now will be insignificant when we stand before the Lord and give an account to how we shepherded our children. We need to share Jesus with them and never give up on them--even when they make mistakes.

Don't give up, parents.

There is too much at stake.

Please wake us up from our slumber, dear Lord!

Have You Mentored Your Children Today?

Have you taken specific action steps to mentor your children on a daily basis?

I know that we all get busy and feel it is not always possible to do so, but here is a quick checklist of questions that you can ask yourself to add into your day.

1. Did I pray for or with my children today?

2. Did I lead them to God's Word today?

3. Did I give them wise advice/ godly counsel today?

4. Did I disciple them today? (verbally or by example/action)

5. Can I teach them something new from the Bible today?

6. Can I share with them what God is doing in my life or what He has done in the past?

7. Did I give them resources to help them grow closer to God? (Like a Bible, encouraging books that point them to God)

8. Did I walk beside them and encourage them in the Lord?

9. Did I tell them that I love them and hug them today?

10. Did I listen to them today?

11. Did I reach out and try to call them today?

12. Can I gift them something that shows them I love them?

This checklist is a helpful beginning point to check our days to make sure we are doing what we need to do to mentor and disciple our children.

It is so easy to get distracted by our other "to-do" lists like managing the home, meals, etc. but we need to remember that at the end of the day those things will always need to be done but we only have our children with us for a short while. It is important to prioritize giving them a strong biblical foundation.

We need to invest in them while we can.

It is our responsibility to do so!

The World Need Mothers Who Are Engaged

I read an article the other day that talked about how women were struggling to stay engaged with their children. Their busy lives, busy schedules, the internet, their smart phones and so forth was pulling them away from their kids even though many times they were home with their children.

And truth be told, doesn't that just sometimes happen to us all? Don't we get distracted with the little things that seem to always pull us away? Yes, we do.

But I also believe that children need mothers who are engaged. I know it can be a struggle to make time to "do-it-all" but we don't need to do it all. We need to focus on the important things first.

I like that when you look at Scripture you see engagement in parenting. It creates a model for us all to follow.

HERE ARE FOUR BIBLE VERSES ON PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT TO HELP US:

1. A MOTHER WHO COMFORTS

"As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you..." Isaiah 66:13

Here we see a mother who takes the time to comfort her child. This comforting can include physical or emotional comfort for a child. A child needs his mother to share this type of love.

2. A MOTHER WHO TEACHES ABOUT THE LORD

"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." - Deuteronomy 6:4-9

God's heart is for parents to take the time to teach them about what is most important--His Word so that they can become saved and grow in wisdom.

3. A MOTHER WHO WATCHES OVER HER CHILDREN

"Discipline your children for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death. " Proverbs 19:18

Taking the time to discipline our children consistently can be tough but we must take the time to engage them and teach them what is right and wrong.

4. A MOTHER WHO LOVES HER CHILDREN

"They are to to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands..." Titus 2:4

Loving our children can be done in many ways, we need to take the time to really nurture them and engage them ( but do not confuse this with our children needing to be the center of our attention 24/7 which is also unhealthy--there needs to be a balance! We need God-centered homes and not child-centered homes). The helpful list above is a great place to start thinking about how we can improve as moms. Ask God to show you what you might need to work on.

Remember that they are on loan to us from the Lord for just a short time so be sure to take the time to love and influence them now while they are with you.

Mothers, Don't Neglect Their Souls

I recently read a quote from Richard Baxter as give these urgent words to mothers regarding their children:

"It is in your hands to do them the greatest kindness or cruelty in all the world: help them to know God and to be saved, and you do more for them than if you helped them to be lords or princes...
If you neglect their souls, and breed them in ignorance, worldliness, ungodliness, and sin, you betray them to the devil, the enemy of their souls, even as truly as if you sold them to him; you sell them to be slaves to Satan; you betray them to him that will deceive them and abuse them in this life, and torment them in the next."

Dear Mothers, don't give up on raising your children or fighting for them in the spiritual and physical realm!

Some may choose Him and some may not- but it is always our responsibility to point them to Him.

Remember that your child's story is still being written and it is not over yet.

So have hope and courage, dear mother, and continue to fight for them!

How to Make a Resurrection Garden for Easter

For years now around Easter we have always made a Resurrection Garden.

I highly recommend them because it's a great reminder of the true meaning of Easter and a fun Christ-centered activity to do with the children.

We would find sticks in the yard and wrap it with some twine or string to make the crosses.

And put them in a simple pot.

We would add some flowers or grass or whatever we could find.

Add a can or small planter pot on its side with a smooth rock on the front to half cover it. You can cover the can with dirt and grass.

The last few years we added small white and gray garden stones that are about 2 or 3 inches big and added specific names of sin leading up to the tomb. The kids like writing those on them with permanent marker.

Sometimes we would get a small strip of purple fabric to hang on the middle cross.

It always made for a fun time.

If you wanted to skip the step of making the crosses you can even just buy them at the store.

I added some photos here below from others -but they don't have to look as nice or grand as some of these, just something simple will do. They are just for inspiration. Some years ours have looked very humble and others we have went all in with pretty new flowers and grass.

We don't usually add eggs--I just added this stock picture

because I like how simple it looked.

You might choose a special garden or spot outside that you would like to use instead.

We have used tea light candles in the past and the safe small plastic ones that you can turn on and off that are safe for smaller children but most of the time we didn't use them at all.

Sometimes just adding a cross or three to an existing plant pot is nice too.

Empty Tomb Resurrection Rolls

Are you looking for a Christ-centered tradition or activity to do with your children at Easter?

These Empty Tomb Resurrection Rolls are a great choice!

They are simple, easy, and fun and don't take a lot of time.

Here is all that you need:

-cinnamon sugar mix

-Pillsbury crescent roll dough

-large marshmallows

-melted butter

Symbolism:

Marshmallow- Jesus' Body

Bread - linen wrapped around his body or tomb

Oven - tomb

Empty roll - Jesus has risen

DIRECTIONS:

1. Take marshmallow and dip it in butter and then the cinnamon sugar mix.

2. Wrap with a strip of crescent dough.

*Make sure you pinch the edges tight really good or it could pop open!

3. Pop into a greased muffin tin. Butter the tops and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.

4. Bake in oven at 375 degrees for 12 minutes.

5. Take out the rolls and let cool.

When you take a bite the marshmallow will have melted and left an "empty" tomb.

They are delicious and easy and taste a lot like monkey bread.

I hope that if you try these that you will enjoy them as much as our kids do!
