It is not in the nature of man--nor of any living entity--to start out by giving up, by spitting in one's own face and damning existence. Some give up at the first touch of pressure; some sell out; some run down by imperceptible degrees and lose their fire, never knowing when and how they lost it. Then all of these vanish in the vast swamp of their elders who tell them persistently that maturity consists of abandoning one's mind; security, of abandoning one's values; practicality, of losing self-esteem. Yet a few hold on and move on, knowing that the fire is not to be betrayed, learning how to give it shape, purpose and reality. But whatever their future, at the dawn of their lives, men seek a noble vision of man's nature and of life's potential.

hang-overs from the sub-conscious
knocking at your door called reality
kept hidden, buried within.
they're seeping secrets that must not leak.
(only elasto-seal can fix)
a delicate process of disarming a ticking timebomb.
i won't be wrecklessly honest anymore.

suppress suppress suppress
only the ticking time can save me from this distress.

walk with the weight of your own demons.
no lung was made to last.
one deep intake of oxygen would barely
save us from lethally planting
our faces onto the ground.

you are your own steward.
go be stupid.
for you are your own steward.

SONGWRI

REACTION PAPER

A View on Songwriting

Songwriting is as personal as a toothbrush. No one else should/could use it because it just feels naturally off. It’s yours and it is for you. I believe that song writing is a very personal act. They are unique ideas produced by the complex minds of people from diverse backgrounds (i.e. race, religion, friends, etc) and they come out in the form of well woven words and complementing melodies. OR. It comes out in a form of well woven melodies accompanied by complementing words. OR both of the above. I think the initial purpose for song writing is to express what you truly experience within yourself and what you see around you. Sharing it with others, I believe is optional. Songwriting is so powerful that it can change the world no matter how cliché it sounds. The Beatles, Michael Jackson, etc are proof that it is possible to change the way things are through the combination of tones, words and beats.

The videos we watched for class were pretty educational. They gave a lot of tips on how to add some flavor to our songs. The videos were rather instructional though which was rather annoying and helpful at the same time (70% annoying. 25% helpful 5% boring.). I believe that songwriting must be completely natural and free. A wise musician once said that education can paralyze your musical creativity. I agree and disagree with him at the same time.

The videos, on the other hand gave rather stern tips on how to add structure to your songs. But I guess they could be used as tools. When these “tools” are fused with raw honest music and lyrics, you could unlock new doors of creativity and VOILA!

Being knowledgeable about the “rules” in music is a bonus but I think the very essence of crafting a song is honesty, passion, exploration, hard work and love. I’m no pro in songwriting at all but I try.

This was just what my mongrel mind had to say.

the rest of the ingredients though. that's just the vibe i pick up from him)

What he lacks in experience in being in a band, he makes up with unrelenting passion, charisma and

ideas that would make you feel like you're holding a loaded .44 caliber on somebody's head.

again, he probably doesn't give a FUCK.

i wish i woke up easy. when im in the brink of waking up, songs have been playing like broken records in my sub-consciousness and it sets me off like a damn alarm clock..random brain alarm clock i guess.

this song woke me up today. I think it should wake you up too.

Blood soaked earth that you call home

Close your eyes but don't sleep

We comin' like peoples army

For the people who can't eat

Who work with no sleep

For the child

With no shoes on their feet

A generation who flash heat

Who role up on the banks

For their cash see

You're the criminal?

You got the nerve to ask me

Tear mics till my voice get raspy

Faced flame for five centuries

And if LA were Baghdad we'd be Iraqi

With our straps in the backseat

Next to a general tied up

With shit in his khakis

Best leave my mic alone I'm full grown

And I'm off to the green zone

After dark my city's a fuse

One day I say today we live as a lion

Blood soaked earth that you call home

I heard this cat got life in the pen

Crossing sand in the back of a truck bed

Twelve deep heard sirens and lights red

Was smacked on his dome with the club of

A white fed

No food no water no rights read

He came north to keep his seeds

And his wife fed

In the middle of the darkest night bled

Stepped to the law and said

You a minuteman wait a minute man

Talk like that might limit your life span

After dark my city's a fuse

One day I say today we live as a lion

And when our cubs grow

We'll show you what war is good for

"the future of sound?

or the sound of the future?"

DRUGS

April 5, 2010

drugs. unnatural. uppers. downers. speedball. mind-alteration.

your mind is not just a tool. it's you. it's how you tie a shoe, strum a chord, observe, talking about nonsense, making sense, looking around, thinking, creating, walking, breathing (now observe every inhale and exhale you make..breath manually. hassle noh?). the human mind is as complex as the unknown.

we only know what we know but our mind capable of so much more.

Now lets put drugs in the formula. drugs WILL change your perception for better or for worse, it will mutilate your consciousness, your train of thought even the way you walk. uppers. downers. speeballing. it will change you.

it may open a new door (or lock it),shut a window. but you will definitely not trully expand your mind's capabilities without outside aid. your train of thought are products of the things around you. family society tv friends experiences etc. you are programmed by these things.programming cages you. how about self-actualization?

bad or good? that's all up to you.

the whole concept of taking drugs is looked down upon society. we all know that. go ahead if you want to look good around society. we were all born with freewill.do your own shit.

i try not to box myself in with what is "normal". i want to be infinite inspite of the few programs pre-installed in my mind by different factors ( family, society.)

smoke it. snort it. swallow it. inject it. your perspective will definitely distort or clarify. it does have a physical and mental effects but thats the point. you will see the world in a way no sober mind can. create things no sober mind can. because drugs, being chemicals, will affect the routing in your brain. everyone knows that

please dont get me wrong. the sober can be artistic, skilled, etc. they find inspiration from different mediums but i wont stress out on that anymore.

it's for everyone's free use.

if you want to, go for it. dont hold back if theres nothing holding you back.

if you dont want to but you understand the concept, give me a big high five!

right or wrong? that's relative. i just dont like stepping on other people's shoes neither should you.

its human nature to judge but dont judge a drug user for being a user, judge him by the way he is on stuff. better yet dont judge! judge the ends not the means.

drugs is not a deterrent for crime, poverty, violence, evil. from the very roots of evil, drugs have nothing to do with it. but it jsut gets associated with it.

GREED and APATHY is the cause of the above said.

drugs is a vessel. not the destination.

do what you want to do but shoulder your own consequences

live how you want to live with out stepping on other people.

bakes,coke,acid,valiums,etc..... name it.

drugs is not the problem. that LACK of LOVE and COMPASSION is.
