Reading Mark 5:1-20 during one of my devotions inspired me to write this poem. If i were a professional song writer and musician, I would write a song about this story (although i already composed songs but i only sing them to God:)).

I was trying hard to compose a melody out of it but i failed (maybe i'll try later) so I just composed a poem out of it.

Here's the poem I composed (i was inspired with what Jesus has done to this man):

A Life Once Shattered

Before he met Jesus

His life was shattered

A legion of demons was with him

He lived in the tombs

Naked...hair uncombed

People were afraid of him

No one could bind him

Not even with a chain

For he had often been chained

But he tore them apart

And even the irons were torn apart.

No one was strong enough to subdue him

Night and day among the tombs

And in the hills he would cry out

And cut himself with stones
Those were all his whereabouts

But when he met Jesus

Jesus rebuked the demons and said, "Come out!"

That legion of demons was gone

With the large herd of pigs they were drowned

And this man came to his right mind

He was dressed and would go with Jesus, 'twas in his mind

Jesus told him to go home

and tell his family what God has done

So the man went away

And he obeyed

And all the people were amazed

His life once shattered was fixed and no longer a scary maze

When he met Jesus

His life became a blessing

His life became amazing!

What Women Don't Know (And Men Don't Tell You)- A Review

this was the book i got (with my personalized sticker below the title)

I got this book in September from OMF Literature during Manila International Book Fair as a gift for attending the second Christian Bloggers' Fellowship and I owe a review of it. Thanks to Ida Torres (OMF staff) for this . I finished reading it last October 2011 but i didn't have much time to post my review. So here it is.

This book is a very good one. The authors made me fell in love with the contents. I agree to one of the comments of a Pastor on this book, "the authors have produced a masterpiece that gives the most balanced, practical understanding of relationships. Their common sense approach to relationships will make you laugh, cry and wonder, 'why didn't i read this before i entered my first relationship?' " But of course, they didn't just use their common sense to share their thoughts in this book but most importantly, this book is Bible-based.

Every content is very sensible and meaty. As i was reading the book, i wanted to highlight everything because every word is very meaningful and helpful.

I like what one of the authors said, "you can not have a complete relationship with an incomplete man , and usually can't recognize his brokenness until you are fixed."

They also tackled the value of women and how we women should value ourselves as we deal with our relationship with men. Let me share here some of the meaty statements in this book about the value of women : " as a woman, you are are not a taste test either. No man should be able to sample you and then decide if he wants to pay the cost associated with claiming you as his own. Neither should he have the freedom to sample and discard you in pursuit of something that he thinks might taste better or have a lower price. You are priceless- fearfully and wonderfully made. God shaped and molded you in his own image. You were created, redeemed and deeply loved and valued by God. Therefore, the man who wants to be involved with you should have to count the cost. Understand your worth and know your value. Realize that your value does not decrease if you are alone. Your value increases according to your depth of character. Having a man is not what gives you value. Your value is established and stated by God before the beginning of time. Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies (Proverbs 31:10 NKJV). Only you can lower your cost."

The authors also gave a warning not to be hasty in giving a man the title of Mr. Right. I like what the authors said, "A lot of women in their exaggerated need for a man have not been discerning. They have settled for dogs and frogs instead of waiting for the man that God calls a good and perfect gift for them."

These statements are also strong and need to be considered: "It is the spirit of a woman that a man senses. He wants a woman who every man wants but every man has not had...A man does not want a woman he has to question or worry about. If a woman gives her body to a man too soon, he will always wonder how many other she has given herself to."

This book is balanced. It didn't only tackle spiritual aspect of relationship but it also advised women not to ignore their physical appearance. I like what the authors said, "You can turn a man's head without turning his heart, but if you don't turn his head, you may not get to his heart. Men are visually stimulated, so you can not ignore your physical appearance." But the author also encouraged women to dress appropriately.

I strongly agree to this statement and i like it very much: "The hearts of men and kings is in the Lord's hands, and he is able to turn their hearts which every way he wishes. When a man or woman's ways please the Lord, he promises to make even their enemies live at peace with them. If he is able to cause your enemies look upon you favorably, how much more will he bless you by turning the heart of a good man in your direction? That's your cue. Make sure when the right man looks your way, he is able to agree with God and say, " It is good.""

As i mentioned above, there are still lot of meaty statements in this book that are very helpful but i encourage you to read them for yourself. I love this book. This book is very sensible and good. Don't miss it. Grab a copy now for yourself or you can give it as a gift to someone else. The Heart Of A Winner ( A Reflection )

I was inspired to write this because of what I’ve observed from SURVIVOR Philippines 2012. I happened to watch most episodes. I watched how the cast aways played. Some used their strength to win even to the point of hurting others. Most of the strongest men thought that they would be part of top 3 finalists but they were surprised that they didn't make it to the top because some were deceived, some were outwitted and some were outplayed. But in the end, the sole survivor was the man they least expected to win because he wasn't that strong in playing the games but he won because of his good heart. And for me, I was very happy and very satisfied with the result. He really deserved to win because he has a good heart, his attitude is extraordinary, very humble, very helpful, very kind and he did his best in every activity, not stepping on other people's toes but maintaining the right attitude. In short, he has the heart.....a good heart.

I remember what Solomon (the wisest Man who lived on earth) said,

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all (Ecclesiastes 9:11).

But aside from that, it’s interesting to note that he also wrote that the heart matters a lot. He wrote in Proverbs 4:23, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."

The Message Translations say (I will include up to verses 27):

Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that's where life starts.Don't talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip.Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions.Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you.Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust.

For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander (Proverbs 15:19).

King David became a man after God's own heart because he was a seeker of God. In his battles, before he faced them, he sought God's answers first and not only that but also, he served God in his own generation.

The beatitudes are all about the heart: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:3-10).

Ruth won the heart of Boaz because of her good heart (see Ruth 2:10-12).

We can search the whole bible and there are so many verses that talk about the heart of people and the kind of heart that wins the favor of God and men.

Winning is not about how you can outplay others even to the point of hurting them…it’s not about how you know the game…it’s not about your wit…its now about how strong you are…it’s not about deceiving people just to get the prize but it’s about the attitude of the heart.

When Samuel the prophet was commanded by God to choose a king for Israel from David’s family, Samuel thought that kingship is about physical appearance...that it’s about the body built…that it’s about how a man stands up or walks but God reminded him not to consider their physical appearance but to look at the heart. So David was chosen, a man after God's own heart.

How do you become a winner? Do you outwit others? Do you step on other people’s toes just to be on top? Do you forget that attitude matters a lot?

What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for? (Matthew 16:26 The Message).

Guard your heart. You are already a winner if your heart is good…if your heart is pure.

2012 Philippine International Guitar Festival And Competition

Last January 26, my mother, my brother Rodel and i were able to watch the 2012 Philippine International Guitar Festival and Competition and it was a nice experience especially that one of my brothers (Rani) was a participant in that event. My brother Rani with his group (Christian Arts Guitar Quartet) opened the program with praise and worship using their guitars only.And of course, since it was a guitar festival, all the groups played different songs just by using their guitars. It was wonderful but we were not allowed to use video camera so we were not able to record their music (I hope next time they would allow the video camera). Aside from my brother Rani's group (Christian Arts Guitar Quartet), other participants were: Angelis Guitar Quartet, Ann Arbor Montessori Guitar Quartet, Triple Fret, Nebrija-Ramos Duo, PWU Guitar Ensemble, QCPADFI Guitar Ensemble and Cebu Classical Guitar Ensemble. But from January 27th to 29th (which we were not able to watch anymore), there were masterclasses, guitar competitions and concerts of known guitarists (both individuals and groups).

There Will Be A Day

The Jeremy Camp's concert in our church was over and thank God for the many people who accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior and one of them was my new friend (who attended among the many people i invited). The concert was very touching and encouraging. One of Jeremy's songs that i like is this...There Will Be A Day. It's encouraging to be reminded that there will be a day when there will be no more tears, no more fears, no more sufferings, no more sorrows and we will see Jesus face to face. If you long for that day, why not give your life to Jesus right now and be sure that in that day, you will experience that kind of life and see Jesus face to face. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Glory And Majesty- A Review

The Authors

This book was written by Victoria Singa-Nuguid. She's a Filipino, a Youth Worker, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Curriculum Writer and also a Blogger. Most of the writings on this book are hers but she has a contributor, Samuel J. Alibrando, a Columnist, Composer, Guitarist, Singer and Author.

My Review

When you read every title, you would wonder what's the content of that certain article and how would that be applied in your life as a christian. There's this title in this book that goes like this : The Steel Wool, The Vinegar, And You. Sounds interesting, right? When you read the content of that article, you would see its significance in your life. There's also an article there entitled,Your Spiritual PH which is very interesting as well and not just interesting but it would change your heart and would make you a better christian.

There are also other titles that are very interesting like, Rusted Blade, Lessons From A Palay Plant, Tarsier Eyes, A Long Typhoon, Through The Fog, A Reminder From The Mud, The Dry Season, Rainbows, El Nino...all of which would remind you of our country, that's why the complete title of this book is Glory And Majesty (God's Signature on the Philippine Islands).

Although this book has a touch of the authors' experiences in the Philippines relating them to our spiritual lives, people anywhere in the world could also learn from it and be touched. This devotional book, of course, is also based from the word of God and in every prayer at the end of each article, you would also be touched. One prayer on this book that really touched my heart was this : "Dear Father, when I am tempted to leave where You have planted me before i should, be my strength so i may endure. Amen"

But i have to comment on what the main author (Victoria) said, "There would be shock in the world of astronomers and weathermen if one day the sun rose 1 minute later than expected because we know of no such event ever in history." While reading that statement i was reminded of what happened in Joshua's time when the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There was such a time in the history when the sun stopped and delayed going down about a full day. Read Joshua 10:12-13, it say,

"On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the LORD in the presence of Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day."

But, overall, this book is good, life-changing, educational, interesting and it would remind you of the wonders of God and be thankful of his creation and it would make you appreaciate the Philippines more. I agree on what the back cover of this book says, "this devotional will take you, the reader, on a journey through the wonders that God wrought in nature as can be experienced in the Philippines."

The Five Love Languages (Singles Edition)- My Reflection And Review

The Author

Gary Chapman is the author of this book. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller The Five Love Languages. Dr. Chapman is the host of the weekly one-hour radio program Building Relationships with Dr Gary Chapman, and has been featured at the Pentagon and United Nations. He is a prolific conference speaker and makes his home with his wife, Karolyn, in North Carolina, USA.

My Reflection And Review

When i saw this book, i had a strong desire to read it because i felt i needed it to understand my love languages and the love languages of the people around me; and i want to be more effective on how to communicate with them and two weeks after, i received a copy of it for me to review it (without me telling that i really want this book). Thank God for free books!:)

I agree to the statements on its back cover, "Being single or married has nothing to do with whether you need to feel loved! Everyone has a God-given yearning for complete and unconditional love in the context of all relationships. If you want to give and receive love most effectively, you've got to learn to speak the right love language. Different people with different personalities express love in different ways."

On this book, the author elaborated and gave examples of the real experiences of people on the five love languages which are : 1) Words of affirmation, 2) Gifts, 3) Acts of service, 4) Quality time, and, 5) Physical Touch.

I liked how the author explained these five love languages. Words of Affirmation are simply true statements affirming the worth of another person. Gift came from the Greek word charis which means, grace, or an undeserved gift. I like how he further defined gifts:

A gift is given without strings attached, or it ceases to be a gift.

A gift is a gift only when given as a genuine expression of love, not as an

effort to cover over past failures.

Gifts are visual symbols of love.

On defining acts of service, the author differentiated service from slavery. Defining the acts of service and differentiating it from slavery is a great help for us to understand that service is not a kind of slavery. The author's elaboration on quality time was educational. He talked about dialects of quality time and also gave insights on how to become a sympathetic listener. On physical touch, he tackled on appropriate and inappropriate touch, the appropriate setting, how you go about it and he also talked about physical abuse and sexual abuse.

I also liked the section here that talked on how to discover your primary love language and how you should apply that to your dating relationships, roommates, classmates and coworkers. Single Parents were also given advice on how to express their love language to their kids.

On the last chapter, the author also talked on Success: Love Is The Key. How he defined success is so touching. He said, "Every person has the potential to make a positive impact on the world. Success is not measured by the amount of money you possess or the position you attain but rather in what you do with what you've got. Position and money can be squandered or abused, but they can also be used to help others.. We typically speak of success in specific areas of life, such as financial success, educational success , or vocational success. We also attach the word to sports, family, religion, and relationships. What we mean when we say that people are successful in one of these areas is that they accomplished the goals they set for themselves. Whatever the category and whatever our view of success, we are more likely to succeed if we effectively love people."

Recommendation

On this book, you would learn a lot. Every statement is meaty. Every experience and every lesson are very encouraging and touching. You've got to have this book! Available in all bookstores nationwide. Published by CSM Publishing.

He Is Not Just Perfect And Faithful

Text:

Isaiah 25:1 "O Lord, you are my God, I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done marvelous things, things planned long ago."

Thoughts:

God is not only perfect and faithful but his faithfulness is perfect as well.

I like one of the definitions of perfect in dictionary.com, it means, entirely without any flaws, defects, or shortcomings.

That defines God. God is entirely without any flaws, defects or shortcomings.

As i checked my concordance, faithfulness in Hebrew is Emuwnah (em-oo-naw') or short emunah which means, firmness; it also means fidelity, stability, steady.

If God's faithfulness is perfect, then we can always trust that what He said will come to pass.

In King James version, faithfulness there was translated as truth. Truth in Hebrew means, oh-men from the primary root word aman which means, firm, to be permanent, to be true or certain, assurance, steadfast, sure, verified.

Notice what the verse above said, "in your perfect faithfulness, you have done marvelous things, things planned long ago."

Even if He planned those things long ago, he will definitely do them because of his perfect faithfulness.

If he had promised you something in the past, even if it was long ago, trust in his perfect faithfulness to do it.

You may not see those promises fulfilled in your life yet but hang on, God is not only perfect and faithful but his faithfulness is perfect as well, so we can trust him. What he had promised long ago will definitely be fulfilled. He is perfectly faithful!
