father makes his 14-year-old daughter sign a contract that means for a mere $200 she will not be on Facebook for five months. He is paying in installments.If there's one thing young people truly understand, it's bribery.From their very formative years, parents bribed them to keep quiet, behave, wear appropriate clothing -- even, sometimes, desist from using rude words.

So it might seem utterly canny of Paul Baier, the vice president of a Massachusetts energy company, to find a veteran's method to get his daughter away from Facebook.

But this tale isn't quite so simple.
I am grateful to Daily Dot for revealing that Baier made 14-year-old Rachel sign a Facebook Deactivation Agreement, which he then posted to his own blog.What's deeply moving is that this blog's usual purpose is to offer deep discussions about sustainability.This makes one wonder just how much sustainability Rachel will have.Despite signing away the next five months of her life to be Facebook-free, the temptations upon her will be great.
Her friends may shun her. She may suddenly be regarded as not cool enough for school. This is enormous pressure to put on one at such a tender stage of her development.
Yet her signature -- in abnormally neat handwriting for a contemporary 14-year-old -- is there for all to see.What is also there for all to see is that she intends to use the $200 in order to buy "stuff."
Paul Baier's canniness stretches to the terms of payment.
Rachel has to show willing before she will even see a dime. Her first payment of $50 won't arrive until April 26. The remainder isn't due until June 26. I can think of many a contractor who would have balked at those terms.A recent study suggested that people are, quite naturally, tired of Facebook. And here's the twist. This wasn't dad's idea -- though I bet the binding agreement was. It seems that Rachel just got bored of Facebook. Paul Baier told the Daily Dot: "It was her idea. She wants to earn money and also finds Facebook a distraction and a waste of time sometimes. She plans to go back on after the 6 months is over." One can only hope that he will offer regular updates on how Rachel is filling up her Facebook time and what kind of "stuff" she intends to buy.When she finally gets some money, that is.

iOS 6 jailbreak utility released by Hackers

he latest jailbreak works for the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini models on iOS 6.0 through 6.1. Cydia's website appeared not to be working, the apparent result of a wave of traffic following the release of the jailbreak.

     Those looking to jailbreak their iOS devices can rejoice, since a new tool named Evasi0n has just been released by the Evad3rs team which allows for an iOS 6.1 untethered jailbreak on almost all of the devices.
The jailbreak is the result of months of work by a four-man computer security research team called the "Evad3rs." They probed Apple's latest OS to find a string of vulnerabilities that would allow an untethered jailbreak, or one that can be installed without the device being connected to a computer.

     Jailbreaking is legal in the U.S. due to an exemption under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which forbids circumventing protections in place to prevent modification of devices. However, as of Jan. 26, it became a crime to to unlock phones to take them to a new carrier. Apple strongly discourages jailbreaking and can void warranties for devices that have been modified.

     A jailbroken iOS device can still use Apple's iTunes and App Store. Jailbreaking also lets you add software to unlock your phone from a mobile carrier's network and in some cases run it on another carrier's cellular network. In theory, the phone's existing functions are unchanged.

     Team Evad3rs was established earlier this year, combines some of the jailbreak community’s most talented developers: Nikias Bassen (Pimskeks), Planetbeing (David Wang), France-based Pod2g (Cyril) and Los Angeles-based MuscleNerd; all known for producing reliable jailbreaks in the past. This team was assembled in order to develop a reliable untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 for post-A5 devices, including the iPhone 5, the iPad mini and the latest-generation iPad. This has now been achieved with the just-released userland jailbreak tool, known as Evasi0n.

Microsoft replacing messenger with Skype [Microsoft bought Skype]

icrosoft on Wednesday sent out word that microsoft will "retire" its Windows Live Messenger chat service, surfing its focus instead to similar functionality in Skype. The changeover could happen on March 15 and replace it with the Skype Internet telephony service it bought last year. Microsoft sent an email message advising Messenger users to update to Skype using their same account

information in advance of the deadline.

"You'll be able to instant message and video chat...just like before, and also discover new ways of staying in touch with Skype on your mobile and tablet," Microsoft said in the message.

The transition began late last year with the release of Skype 6.0 software that lets people sign in to the online communication service using Microsoft accounts. Messenger will be shut off in every country but China.

Skype features include video calls and being able to call mobile phones from computers, as well as being able to connect with friends at leading social network Facebook.

A Skype feature on Facebook, a social network in which Microsoft owns a small stake, allows for multi-person conversations and instant one-on-one video calls with friends.

Skype users can make low-cost or free phone calls over the Internet using their computers or smartphones. Skype bypasses the standard telephone network by channeling voice and video calls over the Web.

Microsoft bought Skype for $8.5 billion in 2011.

ikimedia Foundation, the host of the Wikipedia online encyclopedia, is launching next week a global online travel guide called Wikivoyage.

Described on the beta website as a free travel guide that can be edited by a world-wide community of contributors called Wikivoyagers, the new site is scheduled for an official opening on Jan 15.

Using a wiki model, Wikivoyage is built through collaboration of Wikivoyagers from around the globe. Articles can cover different levels of geographic specificity, from continents to districts of a city. These are logically connected in a hierarchy, by specifying that the location covered in one article "is within" the larger location described by another. The project also includes articles on travel-related topics, phrasebooks for travelers, and suggested itineraries.

The Wikivoyage site currently in beta will be made official on Jan 15
Wikivoyage is a multilingual project available in seven languages, with each language-specific project developed independently. The English version leads in terms of number of articles, with more than 26,500 in December 2012. While now a Wikimedia project, it was begun independently. Wikivoyage content is broadly categorised as: destinations, itineraries, phrasebooks, and travel topics.

Destinations
Geographical units within the geographical hierarchy may be described in articles, based on the criterion, "can you sleep there?"
The hierarchy includes:

Continents
Continental sections (like Southeast Asia)
Countries
Regions within countries (provinces, counties, states, groups of states etc.)
Cities of any size, including fairly small villages if they are tourist destinations
Districts within large cities
National parks provided they have accommodation for the traveller

If Chennai set me free, Mumbai, in western India, brought back my insecurity. In the two months of my stay there, a stranger stalked me for three days until I changed my work timings. Teenage children, residing in a slum next to my apartment complex, routinely pelted stones at women, including me, as we waited for the bus. I was warned by my room-mate against boarding a general compartment, instead of a ladies compartment, while traveling by the metro trains. I also avoided shopping in Mumbai’s famous street markets after an instance of physical harassment.

New Delhi, which reported 7.36 rapes per 100,000 women, has been at the center of the discussions surrounding women’s safety in India.

Though I have avoided living in the national capital, there is no limit to the horrifying stories of harassment of women from friends and acquaintances. There were friends who said groping was a daily reality, no matter where you live or what you wear, and that you simply get used to it.

“We want the citizens of India to be aware about the rape and molestation cases which happen daily; most of them are not even registered in the police files. Two things people should think about through this episode. Firstly, government of India should make strict rules for criminals so that before committing such crimes, there will be fear in their minds. Secondly, change has to come from an individual. Everyone should respect women of their own house,” Anup Soni said.

ankranti is the Sanskrit word in Hindu Astrology which refers to the transmigration of the Sun from one Rāshi (sign of the zodiac) to another. Hence there are 12 such sankrantis in all. However, the Sankranti festival usually refers to Makara Sankaranti, or the transition of the Sun from Dhanu rashi (Sagittarius) to Makara rashi (Capricorn).

For this purpose, the signs and houses of the zodiac are calculated using sidereal time, not tropical. As such it does not account for the Earth's precession. The festival therefore takes place around 21 days after the winter solstice (between December 20 and 23) that marks the starting of the phenomenon of 'northward apparent migration of the sun' or Uttarayana, literally meaning northward journey of Sun.
Considering the winter solstice marks the beginning of the gradual increase of the duration of the day. Scientifically, the shortest day of the year is around December 21–22 after which the days begin to get longer, hence actual Winter Solstice begins on December 21 or December 22 when the tropical sun enters Makara rashi. Hence actual Uttarayana is December 21. This was the actual date of Makar Sakranti too. But because of the Earth's tilt of 23.45 degrees and sliding of equinoxes, Ayanamsa occurs. This has caused Makara Sankranti to slide further over the ages. A thousand years ago, Makar Sankranti was on December 31 and is now on January 14. Five thousand years later, it shall be by the end of February, while in 9,000 years it shall come in June.[citation needed]

While the traditional Indian Calendar is based on lunar positions, Sankranti is a solar event. So while dates of all Hindu festivals keep changing as per the Gregorian calendar, the date of Makar Sankranti remains constant over a long term, 14 January. Makar Sankranti is celebrated in the Hindu Calendar month of Magha.

Makar Sankranti is a major harvest festival celebrated in various parts of India. According to the lunar calendar, when the sun moves from the Tropic of Capricorn to the Tropic of Cancer or from Dakshinayana to Uttarayana, in the month of Pausha in mid-January, it commemorates the beginning of the harvest season and cessation of the northeast monsoon in South India. The movement of the Sun from one zodiac sign into another is called Sankranti and as the Sun moves into the Capricorn zodiac known as Makar in Hindi, this occasion is named as Makar Sankranti in the Indian context. It is one of the few Hindu Indian festivals which are celebrated on a fixed date i.e. 14 January every year (or may be sometimes on 15 January (leap year)).
Makar Sankranti, apart from a harvest festival is also regarded as the beginning of an auspicious phase in Indian culture. It is said as the 'holy phase of transition'. It marks the end of an inauspicious phase which according to the Hindu calendar begins around mid-December. It is believed that any auspicious and sacred ritual can be sanctified in any Hindu family, this day onwards. Scientifically, this day marks the beginning of warmer and longer days compared to the nights. In other words, Sankranti marks the termination of winter season and beginning of a new harvest or spring season.

All over the country, Makar Sankranti is observed with great fanfare. However, it is celebrated with distinct names and rituals in different parts of the country. In the states of northern and western India, the festival is celebrated as the Sankranti day with special zeal and fervor. The importance of this day has been signified in the ancient epics like Mahabharata also. So, apart from socio-geographical importance, this day also holds a historical and religious significance. As it is the festival of Sun God and he is regarded as the symbol divinity and wisdom, the festival also holds an eternal meaning to it.

How To Troubleshoot Your System For Memory Problems In Windows 7

indows 7 includes built-in features to help you identify and diagnose problems with memory.

If you suspect a computer has a memory problem that isn't being automatically detected, you can run the Windows Memory Diagnostics utility by completing the following steps:

Click Start, type mdsched.exe in the Search box, and then press Enter
Choose whether to restart the computer and run the tool immediately or schedule the tool to run at the next restart.

Windows Memory Diagnostics runs automatically after the computer restarts and performs a standard memory test automatically. If you want to perform fewer or more tests, press F1, use the Up and Down arrow keys to set the Test Mix as Basic, Standard, or Extended, and then press F10 to apply the desired settings and resume testing.

When testing is completed, the computer restarts automatically. You’ll see the test results when you log on.

Note that if a computer crashes because of failing memory, and Windows Memory Diagnostics detects this, the system will prompt you to schedule a memory test the next time the computer is restarted.

Windows 8 Down but not out in 2013

indows 8's been in the news again, and not in a good way. Again.

Net Applications, the company that measures worldwide operating system penetration by watching 40,000 websites, distilling the results from 160,000 monthly unique visitors, and adjusting the numbers based on estimates of the number of computer users in each country, now estimates that 1.7 percent of the desktop/notebook/netbook computers accessing the Internet worldwide in December were using Windows 8. Of the Win8 users, per Net Applications, about 3 percent are using the touch interface -- or about 0.05 percent of all observed computers.

Windows 7's uptake -- using the same Net Applications measuring stick -- was around 21 percent at the same point in its lifetime, during December 2009. (Windows 8 hit general availability on Oct. 26, 2012; Windows 7 on Oct. 22, 2009.)

Of course, the world was different three years ago. Windows buyers were eager to try anything not named "Vista," Windows XP owned about 56 percent of the OS pie, the iPad wasn't even a gleam in Best Buy's eye, and the various Mac OS versions just barely topped 5 percent. Three years later, Mac OS versions run over 7 percent and XP still runs on 40 percent of all observed computers.

StatCounter, the other major horse in the OS counting race, tells a less "optimistic" tale, although its calculation methods are quite different: StatCounter counts hits on the pages it follows -- 15 billion hits per month -- and doesn't reduce them to unique PCs or adjust the numbers for geographical sampling anomalies. (Worth noting that both Net Applications and StatCounter wildly underreport Asian markets, which have seen unprecedented growth.) While Windows 8 hasn't yet made enough of an impact to emerge from the "Other" category, StatCounter puts Internet Explorer 10 use in the United States at just under 1 percent in December. Of course, IE10 is now available in beta for Windows 7, bugs and all, but it ships with Windows 8.

Over on the retail side, Bloomberg's Naoko Fujimura quotes Fujitsu president Masami Yamamoto as saying that demand for Windows 8 is "weak," with demand in Europe particularly poor. Fujitsu has concommitantly lowered Windows computer sales projections for the first quarter of 2013.

Just before Christmas, Emmanuel Fromont, president of Acer Americas, told the New York Times, "It's a slow start, there's no question."

I've been watching online sales of Surface RT tablets at Microsoft Stores in the Unite States, Canada, Australia, U.K., France, and Germany, and at Staples and Best Buy in the U.S., as well as Suning in China, and Harvey Norman Australia. Not one of the online sites has ever shown an "Out of Stock" or "On Order" notification.

A quick check of the major online ordering sites shows vast numbers of Windows 8-equipped notebooks for $500 or less, and many under $350. I don't see any listed as "Out of Stock." Even the newer, touch-enabled designs are widely and immediately available, with a few sporadic exceptions.

So much for the doom and gloom. Here are the silver linings.
Michael Dell's keynote at the Dell World conference on Dec. 12 contained many glowing comments about Windows 8:

With Windows 8 we're on the cusp of the next revolution in hardware and software... [I]n the customer conversations that we've been having, the interest in Windows 8 is quite high, even with commercial customers, who would normally wait a few releases to adopt the new versions. What we're seeing here is really an immediate need, because CIOs are worried about the ramifications of a BYOD world.

Of course, Dell is sitting on a whole lot of Windows 8 computers.

On a less cynical note, I have two reasons to think that Windows 8 may not turn out to be a complete crash-and-burn.

First, the fat lady hasn't yet sung. Surface with Windows 8 is due out in January. Although it may not take the world by storm, Surface Win8 has an easy act to follow. All signs I've seen point to Surface RT going the way of the dodo in short order. A full-on Windows 8 machine with the svelte Surface form factor may have a chance, particularly because netbooks are about to disappear. (According to Business Insider, both Asus and Acer have discontinued manufacturing netbooks, effective Dec. 31.)

Second, if the Net Applications figures represent anything close to reality, people accessing the Internet with Windows 8 machines are only using the touch interface 3 percent of the time. Clearly, Windows 8 customers aren't yet using the Mr Hyde Metro side of the product. If Microsoft can come up with a compelling reason for everyday consumers to actually use Metro -- yes, that's a big IF -- there's certainly a lot of room for increased sales. Coming up with an app that everybody wants is one whole heckuvalot easier than coming up with a new Windows, and it looks like very few people have even dipped their toes in the Metro gene pool.

e began the Facebook Fellowship Program in 2010 to foster ties to the academic community and support the research of promising computer science Ph.D. students. Since then, our Fellows have shown remarkable progress in their study of computer security, compiler technology, distributed systems, machine learning, and more. Because of our past winners' great successes, we decided to more than double the number of Fellowships for the 2012-2013 program.

After considering nearly 300 applications, we are excited to announce the 2012-2013 Facebook Fellowship winners. We are confident that each of this year's Fellows will continue to solve many of the exciting and challenging problems inherent at our scale. Highlights of this year’s Fellowship research topics include data storage, mobile computing, and programming language technologies.

To facilitate their work, we have awarded each Fellow full payment for their 2012-2013 tuition, a $30,000 stipend to cover study expenses, $5,000 for conference travel, and $2,500 for a personal computer. We will also invite all Fellows to visit Facebook later this year to meet with engineers working on problems relevant to each Fellow's research.

Thank you to everyone who submitted applications this year. We received hundreds of strong applications, and after many reviews by our academics and engineering leadership, we've selected our 12 winners and 30 finalists. Meet the winners below and check out an overview of their research, as well as what inspired them to pursue it. Jeremy Andrus, Columbia University
Area of Focus: Mobile Computing

When Jeremy sees many people carrying multiple smartphones, he also sees a challenge: How can we unify all those phones and their functionalities so we need to carry only one device? His goal is to revolutionize the mobile market with virtualization solutions that will allow us to use multiple virtual devices on a single physical device.

Jeremy will work to unify the mobile user experience by investigating efficient and secure ways to virtualize whole platforms like Android. His work will help facilitate the next generation of mobile virtual appliances, open up new opportunities for mobile cloud-basedapplications and services, and clear our cluttered pockets of excess devices.

Mosharaf Chowdhury, University of California, Berkeley
Area of Focus: Computer Networking and Cloud Computing

Recently, there have been calls for considering datacenters “computers” and developing operating systems for them. However, the network that connects the thousands of machines inside a datacenter is often ignored and remains an application-agnostic, best-effort service.

Mosharaf, a PhD student in the AMPLab, hopes to elevate the datacenter network to become a first-class resource in cloud computing environments. His research is introducing application-aware network primitives to make datacenter networks more efficient, predictable, and easier to share across multiple entities.

John C. Duchi, University of California, Berkeley
Area of focus: Machine Learning

John works broadly on machine learning problems. His research focuses on algorithms and techniques for scaling machine learning to the real world — problems with too much data to store on one computer.

John's goals are twofold: First, his research studies the growing size of modern datasets that necessitate new, efficient learning algorithms, such as for streaming, online, and distributed data. Secondly, he aims to develop both practical and theoretical understanding of new statistical procedures that allow computers to learn amidst previously difficult problems.

Tyler Harter, University of Wisconsin, Madison
Area of Focus: Storage Systems

Tyler believes that meeting the needs of a data-driven society requires constantly improving the storage stack. He takes a "measure then build" approach to storage-system design. Previously, he studied the file I/O behavior of various desktop applications; the resulting analysis has implications for the design of future file systems.

Now, Tyler is measuring the Hadoop File System (HDFS). Tyler plans to model HDFS scalability and create an HDFS emulator, and he hopes his work will help meet the scaling needs of growing services on the social web.

Jeff Huang, University of Washington
Area of Focus: Search

Jeff is studying scalable, non-intrusive methods for collecting richer interaction data on web pages. Going beyond page views and clicks, he is using mouse cursor movements, scrolling, and tabbed browsing to support the design of better information systems. Through this, Jeff has analyzed user activity on search engines to model searcher behavior, aiming to help search engines better understand their users.

As a PhD candidate at the University of Washington, Jeff hopes to show that search engines and interactive websites like Facebook can use user interaction data to provide the information their users want more effectively.

Hyeontaek Lim, Carnegie Mellon University
Area of Focus: Distributed systems

Hyeontaek, a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, will focus on developing techniques to improve the resource efficiency of distributed systems He hopes to deliver more affordable data-intensive computing, facilitating future innovations for large-scale Internet services.

Gregory Malecha, Harvard University
Area of Focus: Programming Language Technology

Gregory believes that programming language technology has the potential to radically improve both the efficiency and the trustworthiness of modern software. This year, he plans to research how extensible program logics can be used to reason about low-level, concurrent software. He believes that the right abstractions enable compositional, high-level reasoning about programs while retaining the ability to optimize them. To this end, he will work on a program logic for compilerintermediate representations that support concurrency.

Gregory is currently a PhD candidate at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences where he has been working on program verification and topics in high-level programming languages. He became interested in compiler and programming language technology at Rice University, where he worked on multi-stage programming as an undergraduate.

Michelle Mazurek, Carnegie Mellon University
Area of Focus: Computer Security

Michelle, a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon University, is researching ways to let users share their content accurately and quickly, secure in the knowledge that only the right people will see it. Rather than setting specific permissions for each piece of content, Michelle's system will let users easily set comprehensive, human-understandable rules for controlling access to certain types of data.

By combining provable security and user-focused design, Michelle hopes to help users avoid wading through complicated and confusing privacy settings while still maintaining control over who sees their content.

Adrian Sampson, University of Washington
Areas of Focus: Computer Architecture and Programming Languages

Adrian works on making computers more energy efficient. Modern computers, from smart phones to servers, contend with power consumption limits like battery life, power and cooling bills, and chip power density constraints — all of which threaten to impede progress in the development of those computers' capabilities. Adrian's research combines new processor designs with new energy-aware programming languages to help programmers write "greener" software. Adrian, who lives and studies in Seattle, hopes to make computers everywhere more efficient.

Emily Stark, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Area of Focus: Computer Security

Emily is a first-year graduate student at MIT. Her research focuses on building secure web applications that offer useful functionality while protecting the privacy and security of users' sensitive data.

By using ideas from applied cryptography, program analysis, and web security research, she would like to develop techniques that allow rich, functional applications to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of user data, even in the face of a compromised server or buggy application. This research will help to ensure that users' data is secure and that their trust is well-placed.

Rashmi Korlakai Vinayak, University of California, Berkeley
Area of Focus: Distributed Data Storage

Rashmi is fascinated by the sheer scale of data that the key Internet players like Facebook handle today. The challenge of storing and managing this enormous amount of data in a reliable and efficient manner, and making it available in real time, has inspired her research on distributed storage.

Rashmi is currently researching new encoding mechanisms for distributed storage systems with a goal of significantly improving their reliability and elasticity. Through her ongoing work on this, Rashmi envisions bringing a fundamental and principled approach to the multi-dimensional problem of designing distributed storage systems that will nicely complement and strengthen current heuristic-based approaches on this topic.

Jean Yang, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Area of Focus: Programming Languages and Computer Security

As an avid Facebook user, Jean values Facebook's support for fine-grained privacy settings. As a programmer, she understands the difficulty of developing code that enforces these privacy settings. In her research, she aims to make it easier for programmers to write these privacy-aware programs.

For her Ph.D. thesis, Jean is developing Jeeves, a new programming language for automatically enforcing privacy policies. Jeeves allows the programmer to specify privacy policies at a high level, implement core functionality agnostic to the policies, and rely on the system to produce outputs adhering to the policies.

Jean is excited for a future in which good language design makes programmers' lives easier and even more productive.

assword cracking is the process of recovering secret passwords from data that has been stored in or transmitted by a computer system. A common approach is to repeatedly try guesses for the password.
Most passwords can be cracked by using following techniques :

Hashing
Here we will refer to the one way function (which may be either an encryption function or cryptographic hash) employed as a hash and its output as a hashed password.
If a system uses a reversible function to obscure stored passwords, exploiting that weakness can recover even 'well-chosen' passwords.
One example is the LM hash that Microsoft Windows uses by default to store user passwords that are less than 15 characters in length.
LM hash breaks the password into two 7-character fields which are then hashed separately, allowing each half to be attacked separately.

Hash functions like SHA-512, SHA-1, and MD5 are considered impossible to invert when used correctly.

Guessing
Many passwords can be guessed either by humans or by sophisticated cracking programs armed with dictionaries (dictionary based) and the user's personal information.

Not surprisingly, many users choose weak passwords, usually one related to themselves in some way. Repeated research over some 40 years has demonstrated that around 40% of user-chosen passwords are readily guessable by programs. Examples of insecure choices include:

blank (none)
the word "password", "passcode", "admin" and their derivatives
the user's name or login name
the name of their significant other or another person (loved one)
their birthplace or date of birth
a pet's name
a dictionary word in any language
automobile license plate number
a row of letters from a standard keyboard layout (eg, the qwerty keyboard -- qwerty itself, asdf, or qwerty uiop)
a simple modification of one of the preceding, such as suffixing a digit or reversing the order of the letters.

In one survery of MySpace passwords which had been phished, 3.8 percent of passwords were a single word found in a dictionary, and another 12 percent were a word plus a final digit; two-thirds of the time that digit was.
A password containing both uppercase & lowercase characters, numbers and special characters too; is a strong password and can never be guessed.

Check Your Password Strength

Default Passwords
A moderately high number of local and online applications have inbuilt default passwords that have been configured by programmers during development stages of software. There are lots of applications running on the internet on which default passwords are enabled. So, it is quite easy for an attacker to enter default password and gain access to sensitive information. A list containing default passwords of some of the most popular applications is available on the internet.
Always disable or change the applications' (both online and offline) default username-password pairs.

Brute Force
If all other techniques failed, then attackers uses brute force password cracking technique. Here an automatic tool is used which tries all possible combinations of available keys on the keyboard. As soon as correct password is reached it displays on the screen.This techniques takes extremely long time to complete, but password will surely cracked.
Long is the password, large is the time taken to brute force it.

Phishing
This is the most effective and easily executable password cracking technique which is generally used to crack the passwords of e-mail accounts, and all those accounts where secret information or sensitive personal information is stored by user such as social networking websites, matrimonial websites, etc.
Phishing is a technique in which the attacker creates the fake login screen and send it to the victim, hoping that the victim gets fooled into entering the account username and password. As soon as victim click on "enter" or "login" login button this information reaches to the attacker using scripts or online form processors while the user(victim) is redirected to home page of e-mail service provider.
Never give reply to the messages which are demanding for your username-password, urging to be e-mail service provider.

It is possible to try to obtain the passwords through other different methods, such as social engineering, wiretapping, keystroke logging, login spoofing, dumpster diving, phishing, shoulder surfing, timing attack, acoustic cryptanalysis, using a Trojan Horse or virus, identity management system attacks (such as abuse of Self-service password reset) and compromising host security.
However, cracking usually designates a guessing attack.

changed my Laptop("Sleepy Angel")'s password 48 hours ago after that i worked for 48 hours and my sleepy angel continuously wake up with me and i forgot password because that password i used first time so its happen. Now problem is that i want to set my old password without confirmation of password. I got its solution.

How to set new password without confirm password

Go to Run type lusrmgr.msc [Logon User Manager Microsoft Console] Hit Enter.
Now you will see this below window click on left side Users folder

Right click on user account name my account name is administrator and click on set password

After set password click on proceed.

Now set your password with out confirmation of old password
