The Exchange Club of Gilroy will be holding its Annual Harvest Dinner and Auction tomorrow evening (November 6, 2009) at the Irmandade da Festa do Divino Espirito Santo (IFDES) Lodge – Portugese Hall, 250 Old Gilroy St, @ Forest.

Tickets will be $30 at the door and the meal will consist of Roasted Cornish Hen, dessert & coffee which was donated by Mama Mia’s Ristorante Italiano.

This Sunday, October 25th, the Firehouse Bar & Grill will be presenting a Cajun Catfish Fry in downtown Gilroy.    The fry runs from 1pm to 4pm in Gourmet Alley (between 4th and 5th streets just West of Monterey) and costs $15 for adults and $6 for children under 14.

Not only can you enjoy (or experience for the first time) Grilled Catfish, Mac ‘n’ Cheese, Collard Greens, beingets and more Louisiana down-home cooking, but there will be plenty of live music as well.

Next Wednesday, October 28th, the Downtown Comedy Club, Hosted by Wesley Hoffman, will feature the Three of a Kind Comedy Tour consisting of Kellen Erskine, Dave Burleigh, and Andrew Norelli.

Held the last Wednesday of every month at the Gilroy Gaslighter Theater, 7430 Monterey Road, the Downtown Comedy Club is a must see not only for comedy fans, but for anyone who just needs a good laugh as the first of the month starts to roll around again.

Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7:30 (and usually ends around 9:30).  $12 will get you into the show and access to the no host bar.

While sitting along the levy last Saturday watching the yunguns shoot off fireworks I struck up a conversation with the father of another family doing the same thing.  Naturally the topic of work came up and when I mentioned that I make most of my money online these days he became intensely interested in what I had to say.  It seems this gentleman has been kicking around an idea for an online business for a couple of years now but simply has been unable to find the right web designer to turn it into reality.  His hopes were dashed (once again, apparently) when I informed him that I no longer do serious web design work myself, but I promised to see if I could find somene able to handle his needs.

Yesterday I came across VenalTech.com and immediately knew I’d found the answers to his prayers.  Venal Tech is a relatively young company dedicated to bringing your online business to life (or moving your brick and mortar business into the digital age).  Not only can they develop a website of any size or scope, utilizing all of the latest web technologies, but they’ll also handle marketing, promotion, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and all of the other areas that are unique to running  abusiness online.

Of course, there are quite a few companies (and individuals) offering similar services, so how did I know that VenalTech.com was perfect for turning this man’s dreams into reality?  Well, it was founded by none other than Brian Holt, whose former projects have included MovieForumz (once one of the top 500 most visited websites in the world) and YouPorn (currently one of the 50 most visited websites).  With that kind of talent and experience I have no doubt that they can handle this project.

Astute readers will note that I’ve yet to actually share any details about the venture itself.  That, dear readers, will have to wait until VenalTech has done their job as I’ve been sworn to secrecy on all the juicy details.  But don’t worry, as I’ve been promised plenty of sneak peeks an shwag as the busines develops, all of which I’ll be able to share here at Gilroy Review.

While driving Zaira to an Independence Day/birthday party this afternoon I once again gave her my spiel/rant about how people in America don’t understand the holidays they celebrate. In addition to my traditional tirade against calling today’s celebrations “4th of July” parties I added in that if we were truly interested in celebrating our independence and freedom then all businesses would be closed.

Imagine the belly laugh I had, then when I pulled into the Wienerschnitzel drive-thru on First St. and discovered the sign pictured above.  Welcome toAmerica!  Land of the free (after our shift is over).
