Aakash 2 Tablet : The ultra-low tablet 'Aakash' has created a revolution in the tech world when it was released. It got over 1.4 million bookings in the first 14 days and reached 2.1 million bookings in just 21 days. Though it was a huge hit, the company couldn't manufacture such a large number of devices with having only one manufacturing unit at Hyderabad. Some of the people din't get the tablet into their hands yet and also company got many complaints for its low battery life and slow processor. This made the government to take decision on upgrading the Aakash Tablet with better battery life, powerful processor and some other additional features.

Recently, Government came to a conclusion that foreign companies cannot understand their requirements in manufacturing the product and decided to handle the projects to Indian companies.

Responding to the Eoi passed by the government, India's leading IT and Tech company HCL Info has expressed interest in manufacturing the Aakash 2 Tablets. According to the sources, the reason behind its expertise in manufacturing is its demand and 2.1 million bookings.

HRD Minister, Kapil Silbal said that the government decided to distribute Aakash 2 Tablets for free to every Indian student and also the tablet price will come down to Rs.1,500/- from Rs.2,270/- once the tablet reach 1 million bookings from present 2 lakh bookings.

Well, the Indian Government took this project as a challenge after they got many complaints on Aakash Tablet. HRD Minister, Kapil Silbal recently announced that they are including 3 more IIT's in the Aakash 2 Tablet project. They are IIT-Madras, IIT-Mumbai and IIT-Kanpur. Aakash 2 Tablet : Aakash 2 Tablet is Free of cost for Students : At recent event, HRD minister, Kapil Silbal said that every student will get the world's cheapest tab 'Aakash 2 Tablet' for free of cost.

"We are planning to distribute this tablet for free to deliver e-learning experience for every student in the country and also to bridge the digital divide between the rich and poor students", he added.

He clearly explained how students would get the Aakash 2 tablet for free. He specified that the tablet will cost Rs,1.500/- and it will be distributed to the Universities at 50% Government subsidy of Rs.750/-. Then this Rs.750/- will be bared by the respective Universities.

Aakash 2 Tablet - Aakash tablet's production base will be diversified : HRD Minister, Kapil Silbal said "We are now going to diversify production base and indigenise Aakash tablet. We are planning to create eco-system for end to end development of Aakash in India. This will create enormous opportunities for R&D institutions, developers, electronic production houses".

Also, he said that IIT's and ITI's are onboard on development of the device which has so far reached out to a handful of students.

Aakash 2 Tablet : 3 More IIT's to Join Aakash 2 Tablet Project : The Indian tab 'Aakash Tablet' has created history in the tech world by getting 21 million bookings in just 21 days. But this cheapest tab got many complaints for under performing and low battery life. Noticing this, IIT-Rajasthan came up with some changes in specifications and features in the Aakash Tab for better performance and more battery life. Taking all these stuff as feedback, the Indian Government decided to upgrade the Aakash Tablet.

According to source, Datawind took a step forward and upgraded the tab with some minor changes in specifications and opened bookings on their official website without informing the Indian Government. However, Government slammed the company for this. Later, the company was asked to upgrade the Aakash Tablet with the specifications proposed by IIT-Rajasthan. But, the proposal was declined by Datawind as it is impossible to upgrade the Aakash Tablet at the same cost with the specifications proposed by IIT-Rajasthan. The institution proposed to upgrade the tab with Shock proof and Water proof which costs double price to manufacture.

As the Government's aim is to provide the Tab for lower price, they decided to withdraw the deal with IIT-Rajasthan and said they are opening tenders for public sectors to involve in this project. According to the Feb 2nd article on Economic Times, a government official said, "We have realised that educational institutes are not capable of handling tenders as it involves large sums of money and handling vendors. Public sector undertakings are much better equipped to handle it."

But today, with the aim of making the tablet 90% Indian, HRD Minister and other senior officials from the ministry as well as Department of IT said ,The government plans to involve three more IITs in the world's cheapest Aakash 2 Tablet PC project to make it more indigenous and further lower its price.
Apart from IIT Rajasthan, which is spearheading the project, IIT Mumbai, IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur would also be roped in for the project.

Aakash 2 Tablet will likely come with 1Ghz Processor, capacitive touch screen, front VGA camera and long battery life.

Difference between Aakash Tablet and Ubislate 7 : Aakash tablet is the world's cheapest tablet manufactured by the Canadian company called Datawind and Hyderabad based company Quad Electronic Solutions at Hyderabad. The Indian Government launched this tablet with an aim to provide the tablet for every student in the country for lower price.

Aakash Tablet is the tablet given to the students by respective universities after Government subsidy price. i.e . at Rs,1,200/-.
Ubislate 7 is the commercial version of the Aakash tablet for everyone at the price of Rs,2,500/- available at Ubislate.com. You have to book the commercial tablet through Ubislate.com or Ncarry.com. However, this version is not available at present, so you have to pre-book Ubislate 7+.

According to the sources, Datawind is misleading the people by changing the name of Aakash Tablet as Aakash Ubislate 7 on their official website. When complaints raised by the users who have purchased Aakash Tablet, IIT-Rajasthan came with upgraded specifications and features for Aakash Tablet which is now popularly know as 'Aakash 2 Tablet'.
