I tried the newish TC Electronic flashback delay after a friend recommended their new series of pedals. I think it sounds great and is extremely versatile for having only 3 knobs and presets.

The toneprint thing is also very cool, hopefully they keep them coming, though I’m pretty happy with the ones I chose (I bought a second pedal).

I think the straight through dry sound feature helps. It’s a very musical pedal, no fuss to get a great delay sound.

I sold my analog delay pedals after buying this one, something I never thought I’d do, go figure…..

Poly? Impossible.

To its credit, it’s extremely durable. But it’s hazy and it absolutely kills the sound of the wood.

Just my opinion…..

Having had the chance to work on and off doing live sound for the past 20 years or so (I started young), there is something that always confuses me. Riders. You know, the little 2 or 3 page things that supposedly tell you what a band needs, stage layout, line list, etc. You would think that it would be really important that they be accurate, that what the bands actually need on stage be laid out really clearly. Nope, almost never.

At what point does showing up at every gig and having to completely change the stage layout or rewire the entire console channel order become bothersome. Apparently never from what I’ve seen. And how hard is it? Not hard at all, a few minutes in Microsoft word every now and then would be all that is necessary.

I remember on one gig, I was talking to a member of the band, and referencing one of the other band members by name (as his name was on the rider stage plot), and he tells me, oh him?, he hasn’t been in the band in 19 years.

Nice.

Conventional wisdom, or at least the conventional method of record release says that you make an album, put a bunch of money behind it, then do the tour for it. That’s more of the big record company dance. But it isn’t always the most ideal for the fans, I don’t think. Sometimes we fans just want some new music to listen to, don’t plan on being in a place that the tour will come through, and really aren’t interested in any of the advertising.

So, when there is a 5 year or something wait between albums I think there is a link that can become broken. Though records cost money and time, and people download/copy music without buying it, and it is tough just to pay for their creation, I still think the trend of the growing independent music community gives us a chance as musicians and fans to move away from the old model for good.

Music just for the sake of music is all that can be sometimes. Trying to suck every last penny out of an album for 3 years before allowing/requiring the artist to make a new record is a little disrespectful to the fan. Music is for the fans, so I think we as fans just need to make sure it stays that way.

Just some thoughts……

So I have been working on the upcoming music for a while now, it has been a long process. But, I have learned a lot and am really looking forward to making the whole process a little more streamlined in the future. Hopefully faster from inspiration to creation. But in the meantime, I will have music available for listening/download/sale/etc. Very soon!
