Scouting new Studios

Yesterday Aaron and I spent the entire day scouting new locations for our studio in downtown Los Angeles. We have been looking at numerous properties in and around the Arts District to find something that will work wonderfully for us. Here are a couple photos from our trek.

Took this photo of the amazing sky the other evening. We were discussing how beautiful the Orange County coastal sunsets were and relating them to our move up to Los Angeles. Then it was pointed out that it was beautiful due to air pollution and we got really excited about our move to LA.

I can't say too much about this one yet but we are working on a major hotel redevelopment project. Here is a picture of one component. These vintage bowling lanes were saved from demolition of the Java Lanes in Long Beach. Originally installed in 1958, these rock maple lanes are beautiful.

We came into the studio this morning to an interesting sight. The face of Aaron R Thomas has appeared somehow on our studio floor.

Polishing a Leg

For the final finish of this intricate hand carved leg, Aaron uses a high power buffing wheel to take out even the finest scratches and make this piece glow. The high power buffer is a double edged sword, capable of providing the finishing touches or ripping the piece out of your hand and ruining countless hours of hard work. It takes years of experience to master.

Amazing how these pieces can go from "dull" wood to beautiful glowing teak within a couple of hours. Just wait until the finish is applied.

Aaron has always been good at transforming objects into works of art. Here is a new piece in progress. This started out as a bulletproof bank window, was carved into a human form, and was burnt to add amazing texture and color. Now Aaron is working on painting this piece. More photos to follow.
