What is HFSExplorer?

HFSExplorer is an application that can read Mac-formatted hard disks and disk images.
It can read the file systems HFS (Mac OS Standard), HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) and HFSX (Mac OS Extended with case sensitive file names).
HFSExplorer allows you to browse your Mac volumes with a graphical file system browser, extract files (copy to hard disk), view detailed information about the volume and create disk images from the volume.
HFSExplorer can also read most .dmg disk images created on a Mac, including zlib / bzip2 compressed images and AES-128 encrypted images. It supports the partition schemes Master Boot Record, GUID Partition Table and Apple Partition Map natively.
You may be interested in the application if you're:

A user of an Intel Mac running Windows with Boot Camp in need of accessing the files on the Mac OS X hard drive.
Owners of HFS+-formatted iPods, that wish to access their content from within Windows or elsewhere (a user emailed me and verified that this works).
Users of PearPC or similar Mac emulation/virtualization software that wish to access the contents of their virtual hard disks (will only work if the disk image is stored in raw format, as in PearPC).
People that need to access the contents of HFS+-formatted .dmg files.

HFSExplorer is written mostly in Java 5, optionally using some Java 6 features, with some Windows-specific parts written in C in order to be able to get raw access to block devices, and to create a practical launcher application.
Linux and OS X users should in most cases not need HFSExplorer for browsing file systems on devices, since there are native file system drivers available on those systems, but it seems to work fine if you need it. Linux users might find use for opening .dmg files.

To set up Google Sync on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch device, please follow the steps below.

Requirements and Upload

1. Google Sync is only supported on iPhone OS versions 3.0 and above. You can check your current version by going to Settings > General > About > Version. To upgrade, follow the instructions at http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/. Please upgrade to iPhone OS 3.0 before setting up Google Sync.

2. Perform a sync with iTunes to ensure that Contacts and Calendars from your iPhone are backed up to your computer. Learn more about backing up your Contacts and Calendars.

3. If your business, school, or organization uses Google Apps, your administrator will first need to enable Google Sync before you can take advantage of this feature. Note that if you enable Google Sync, your administrator may also exercise additional remote management capabilities (such as remote wipe or password requirements). Click to learn more or contact your administrator.

Getting Started

1. Open the Settings application on your device's home screen.
2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
3. Tap Add Account....
4. Select Microsoft Exchange. OS 4.0+ now allows multiple Exchange accounts. However, if you're on a device that doesn't let you add a second account, you could also use CalDAV to sync Google Calendar and IMAP to sync Gmail.

5. In the Email field, enter your full Google Account email address. If you use an @googlemail.com address, you may see an "Unable to verify certificate" warning when you proceed to the next step.
6. Leave the Domain field blank.
7. Enter your full Google Account email address as the Username.
8. Enter your Google Account password as the Password. (If you are a 2-step verification user, please use an application-specific password instead.)
9. Tap Next at the top of your screen.
9a. Choose Cancel if the Unable to Verify Certificate dialog appears.
10. When the new Server field appears, enter m.google.com.
11. Press Next at the top of your screen again.

12. Select the Google services (Mail, Calendar, and Contacts) you want to sync.

13. Unless you want to delete all the existing Contacts and Calendars on your phone, select the Keep on my iPhone option when prompted. This will also allow you to keep syncing with your computer via iTunes.

If you want to sync only the My Contacts group, you must choose to Delete Existing Contacts during the Google Sync install when prompted. If you choose to keep existing contacts, it will sync the contents of the "All Contacts" group instead. If there are no contacts on your phone, the latter will happen -- the contents of your All Contacts group will be synced.

You've set up Google Sync! Synchronization will begin automatically if you have Push enabled on your device. You can also open the Mail, Calendar or Contacts app and wait a few seconds to start a sync.

Next choose which calendars to sync, if you'd like to enable multiple calendars.

Q: How do I format a USB Flash Drive to NTFS file system?

A: To enable NTFS on your USB Flash Drive drive (USB Flash Memory):

1. Right click My Computer and select Manage.
2. Open the Device Manager and find your USB drive under the Disk Drives heading.

3. Right click the drive and select Properties.

4. Choose Policies tab and select the "Optimize for performance" option.

5. Click OK.

6. Open My Computer.

7. Select Format on the flash drive.

8. Choose NTFS in the File System dropdown box.
9. Device Formatting is completed.

Important: To remove a device safely without data loss use a "safely remove hardware" procedure or Eject function from Windows Explorer.

Before, my .mp4 files were detected and deleted by web-spiders and MU soul's caretakers.
Inconvenient as is, it is only solution, 'cause I have only a free account on MU, not payed one.

MalwareBytes ok here's the thing, there are a few options on free virus software... Would you like to easily access all of your Google accounts without using multiple browsers or special addons? Here’s how you can use the new Google Multiple Sign-in feature to quickly access all your accounts.
Google services permeate most of our online lives, and many of us end up using multiple Google accounts for different projects. You may have a personal Gmail account, a specialized one for your website, and another for using on public forums and comments. Before, the only way to access all the accounts would be to use multiple browsers or to use special extensions to sign in to multiple accounts at the same time. Now Google has made it easy to link all of your Google accounts so you can access them directly in the same browser.
Add Multiple Sign-in to Your Google Account
When you access any Google service, such as Docs or Gmail, you’ll see your Gmail address in the top right corner. To add multiple accounts, we’ll need to edit our Google account.

Head over to Google.com/accounts (link below), and sign in with your main, standard Google account. Make sure you use your primary account, as this will stay the main one you’ll see when you access Google services.

Click Edit beside Multiple sign-in under the Personal Settings section.

Select the On – Use Multiple Google Accounts in the same browser, and check each box to show you understand the limitations and features of Multiple Sign-in. Not all of the Google apps currently support it, but most of the main ones such as Gmail and Docs work great with it. Click Save at the bottom when you’re done.

You’ll now see a confirmation in the top of the page. Click the Back link to go back to your Accounts settings page.

You should now see a down arrow beside your Google account. Click it, and then click Sign in to another account to add another account.

Sign in with the other Google account you wish to add in the login box.

Now you’ll see your second Google account when you click the down arrow beside your email address. Your first, main account will be listed in bold as Default. Click the other email address to switch to that account.

If you’d like to add another Google account, simply click the Sign in to another account link again to add it.
Remove a Linked Account
Would you like to remove the extra accounts you added? Unfortunately there isn’t currently a way to remove just one linked account, so you’ll need to turn off Multiple sign-in to remove the accounts. To do that, login to your Google Accounts page as before, and click Edit beside Multiple sign-in.

Click the Off bullet near the bottom, and click Save.

Once you’ve saved the changes, you’ll only have access to your main Google account. If you ever decide you’d like to add the second account again, repeat the steps above. Note that this fully removes the data about your second account from the first account, which is great if you accidently added your account to the wrong Google login.
Conclusion
Whether you have multiple personal Gmail accounts or use one for business and one for personal use, this is a great way to keep your accounts together. Unfortunately you cannot access your Google Apps accounts this way, though you can already be logged in to a Google Apps account and a standard Gmail account at the same time. Google Apps account support will be added to this eventually, but for now, it’s a great solution for accessing any of your standard Google accounts without logging off and on or using workarounds.

Sony Sound Forge 9 software incorporates batch processing - a powerful feature that lets you convert multiple files to different formats instead of having to convert each one individually. For example, if you want to convert a bunch of WAV files to MP3 format for loading into a portable music player, no problem. Another example: Bassist Bootsy Collins needed to convert about 2GB of 24-bit WAV files to 16-bit WAV so they could be compatible with an older "groovebox" instrument; the job took me about 15 minutes. In addition to batching format conversion, you can also batch processing—for example, add the same amount of limiting to a set of files. Bottom line: Batch conversion is a huge time saver.

The Save Options window is where you choose how your batch of files will be saved (format, name, and location for the converted files).

To start, under the "Tools" menu item, select "Batch Converter"; a window opens with four tabs. First, choose the files you want to process. Under the "Files to Convert" tab, you can select individual files using "Add File," or an entire folder with "Add Folder." You can also just drag-and-drop the files you want to convert into the window's workspace.
If you only want file conversion, click on the Save tab, then click on "Add Save Options" (Fig. 1). Here you choose the desired output format and call up a particular template (in this case, WMA format at 160kbps) or choose customized format options if the templates don't cover your needs. Note that you can also append something to the name; for example, with Bootsy's samples I added "-16" to make it clear the samples were 16-bit. Finally, you select where you want the files to end up; if you use the Browse function, you also have the opportunity to create a folder. After making your choices, click on "OK."
On the main Batch Converter window, click on Run Job. This automatically switches to the Status screen, which shows the original file input, steps that have been performed, whether they were performed successfully, and finally, where to find the converted files (Fig. 2).

The Status window shows when the batch processing is complete, as well as information about the processing.

To process the files before converting, either as an isolated function or in conjunction with format conversion, click on the Process tab. Here you can select an effect (e.g., Sony Wave Hammer), and a preset for it (or modify the preset by clicking on "Change Preset"). Repeat this for as many effects as you want; you can change the effects order with the "Move Up/Move Down" buttons. Then, click on the "Save" tab and proceed as described previously to output the files, although you'll probably want to choose "Same as Source" for the file format unless you want to do conversion as well. (Note that there's also a "Metadata" tab where you can enter info about the files, such as copyright date or keywords). As saving is the final step, click on Run Job, and you're done.

YouTube & Vimeo are the most popular video-sharing sites which support HD or "high-definition" mode. While that can mean a number of things, the most important takeaway is: higher quality.
Sony Vegas is a very popular video editing program, and incidentally, it’s also my fave. I’ve done the following steps in Vegas Pro 8, but they’ll also work in other recent versions. The cut-down Movie Studio does not support HD, but Platinum edition does.

I’ve experimented a lot, and altho you do need to set certain things precisely, there’s room for variance and adjustment according to specific video context.

Preparation

First of all, before you ever begin filming, whether it’s recording your screen or using a DV camera, make sure your footage resolution is at least 1280×720. If it’s lower, you may experience unwanted blockiness. If it’s a different aspect ratio which isn’t widescreen, then you’ll have black bars on the side — or your video will be unpleasantly stretched.
I like to quickly record a test clip, then check that my settings are alright before proceeding. It’s saved me a lot of misery by ensuring things are right from the get-go.

New Project settings

When making a new project in Vegas from File menu > New, make sure your settings are the same as or close to this:

Frame rate is usually from 24-30 FPS. Generally, set this the same as the source footage to avoid resampling complications. Vimeo claims their HD is "up to 25fps". (Here’s a trick: even if you record at a much lower FPS like 10-15, you can give the momentary illusion of greater smoothness by doing Ken Burns-style zooms. Don’t overdo this into the Land o’ Nausea, but consider it a valuable technique.)
When you drag clips into Vegas, make sure the Preview area is completely filled up. There shouldn’t be a letterbox effect unless you’re intentionally doing it. And go on your merry way editing, until you reach…

Rendering

Altho there are several codecs which can be exported from Vegas which will work, I prefer WMV (Windows Media Video). "Why not H.264?" you might ask. It’s true that’d be a great choice if Vegas had a clean implementation of it. But until proven otherwise, it’s broken. You can export to Animation or near-less Photo JPEG, open it up in an app like QuickTime Player which does export well to H.264, but that can be tedious.
So when you go to File menu > Render As:

After you’ve chosen WMV, next to Template, you can make a new setting or modify an existing one; there are some existing HD templates like "6 Mbps HD 720-30p Video" which aren’t quite "on the money" but are decent starting points. After you’ve selected one, click the Custom button.
To ease your way, I’ll show you what to set next:

If you set all those just like I’ve shown you, you should be… all set! I like to provide the reasoning behind my choices, however:

In the Audio tab’s "Attributes", you generally want to leave sampling rate alone @ "44 kHz" (actually 44.100 kHz). If you know your source footage was recorded at 48 kHz, you can set it to that and it isn’t a big deal. I’ve yet to confirm whether Vimeo or YouTube will make use of a much higher rate but also remember, Vimeo & YouTube’s own compression — yes, it gets squashed again after this — won’t retain all the subtleties of the source material.
In the Video tab, you should set "Frame rate" to match the project settings. For convenience, there’s a "(Keep Original Size)" option, but I’ve explicitly shown 1280×720 here to be clear.
I haven’t noticed that much of a difference moving "Video smoothness" in the higher end from 90-100. Some vidtuts I’ve watched say 100% is best for screencasts but if you have lots of motion, you may want to lower this. Experiment and let me know your experiences.
In Bit Rate tab, the "Internet/LAN" box should obviously be checked, and a bitrate of 3-5 M is suitable, which is why I put the middle value of "4 M" here. Videos with less motion can get away with having a lower bitrate because the differences between frames are less, and hence, there’ll be less pixelation.
No need to change the Index/Summary tab.
Be sure to save your setting once you’ve found it works for you. I like to put the date after a name if I’m revising it, e.g., "Vimeo & YouTube HD (2009-01-15)". The state of web video changes a lot, so be prepared to be flexible and adapt this later. You may want to fill in a Description with a helpful reminder.

You’re almost there! Render it, then upload the finished file.

Be patient

Don’t worry if after you upload your video, you keep compulsively checking and wonder "Where’s the HD?" HD versions take longer to show up. I often find the SD (Standard Definition) version appears, and then, depending on how busy the upload queue is, the HD version will finally appear within minutes to hours. Vimeo gives you an estimated countdown which isn’t always reliable, but it’s better than the generic placeholder that YouTube has.
I like rendering and uploading before I go to bed. This way, I’m not hanging around waiting for the video to appear, and when I wake up in the morning, it’ll be ready. This is especially important if you have a slower computer (both in terms of CPU power and network bandwidth) that ties you up when it renders and/or uploads.
Always be open to iteration. Even with all the videos I’ve made, I’m still hungry to learn and evolve my skills by watching how other people have figured out problems like this, then applying my own methods. You should too!

Firefox Hack – How to Run Faster Firefox!

Most people who have used Firefox for the last couple years probably know this hack but let me do a step-by-step instructions on this for the simplest and best way to make your Firefox browser run faster.

Faster Firefox!

First, go to your Firefox URL address bar and type, “about:config”.

You will see a warning sign but just click on “I’ll be careful, I promise!”.

Next, enter “network” in the Filter input like this:
(Then you should be able to scroll down to network.http.pipelining.

By default http pipelining is turned off on your Firefox browser. This is basically allowing “parallel” http processes when you load a site. So instead of sending one HTTP request to the web server, by using HTTP Pipelining, your browser will be able to request multiple HTTP requests simultaneously. (If you took a college class in computer architecture like I did 10 years ago, you will get what “pipelining” is.)

By the way, pipelining is a commonly used method in computer processors too. Most likely the Intel or AMD CPU you currently have on your computer or laptop does “pipelining”. Just wanted to explain how this feature actually improves performance.

Also, if you are on a slow connection such as broadband connection, enabling pipelining might not actually speed up your Firefox browser.

This is a good way to improve download speeds so long as you don’t have bottlenecks on your internet connection, DSL and Cable modems will probably work the best. (or anything faster like T1)

To enable HTTP pipelining, simply enable network.http.pipelining to true, setnetwork.http.pipelining.maxrequests to 30 (or you can play around with this number as the best performance achieved may depend on your computer and internet connection), and also setnetwork.http.proxy.pipelining to true.

Next, we will set a new value on the Firefox browser called “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” to zero so there’s absolutely no delay and Firefox starts loading graphics as it loads the website simultaneously. (instead of default setting where there’s a delay, WHY?)

First, right click on any of the values and you can select New->Integer like this:

Then, set the name to nglayout.initialpaint.delay.

Finally, enter “0” (zero) and press enter.

Try loading some heavy websites like my Zedomax.com, your Firefox should now run a bit faster. YEY!

Of course, there’s other ways to make your Firefox faster such as messing with cache values and whatnot but in my testings, their performance is negligible. If you want to still do that, try this guide over here.

More Tips on making Your Firefox Run Faster!

For one, try using Firefox 3.5 instead of any of the older versions, the latest version runs much faster.

Second, don’t have more than 5 tabs open at any given moment. In my 3-month study, having more than 5 tabs on Firefox, greatly reduced its performance. As soon as you close those extra tabs, my Firefox started running much faster.

Third, if you are running a Windows machine, you can try setting the highest priority to real-time in your Task Manager.

You can also try this tab extension but I don’t use it much as having more extensions in the first place means slower overall Firefox.

P.S. You can also want to try Fasterfox extension which does DNS pre-fetching (like Google Chrome browser).

Also, I’ve noticed that Google Chrome is about 20% faster on average. I use both Firefox and Google Chrome on a regular basis. You should try Google Chrome if you haven’t yet. I also hear that the new Opera browseris pretty fast too as it loads graphics in low-res first.

Of course, just don’t use Internet Explorer, too many security exploits and SLOW!

The solution is very simple and takes less than a minute to implement. You don't need to even reboot Windows. The change is immediate.

Download the file, photoshop_thumbnails.zip (62kb)
Copy psicon.dll to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Shell - if this folder doesn't exist create it
Run Adobe.reg
You now can view PSD files in Thumbnails view within Windows Explorer.

the company is so cool that i am actually going to record my next album on it ;) and yes i did choose to buy their software... i look at it like this, them offering me their software so cheap is like them sponsoring my project.
