Large wind farms in certain areas in the United States appear to affect local land surface temperatures, according to a paper published in the journal Nature Climate Change.

As numerical models are computationally intensive and have uncertainties in simulating regional and local weather and climate, said Liming Zhou, an atmospheric scientist at the State University of New York-(SUNY) Albany who led the study, remote sensing is likely the most efficient and effective way to study wind farm effects over larger spatial and longer temporal scales.

To understand the potential impact of wind farms on local weather and climate, Zhou’s team analyzed satellite-derived land surface temperatures from regions around large wind farms in Texas for the period 2003-2011.

The researchers found a night-time warming effect over wind farms of up to 0.72 degrees Celsius per decade over the nine-year-period in which data were collected.

Because the spatial pattern of warming mirrors the geographic distribution of wind turbines, the scientists attribute the warming primarily to wind farms.

The year-to-year land surface temperature over wind farms shows a persistent upward trend from 2003 to 2011, consistent with the increasing number of operational wind turbines with time.

This warming effect is most likely caused by the turbulence in turbine wakes acting like fans to pull down warmer near-surface air from higher altitudes at night.

While the warming effect reported is local and small compared to the strong background year-to-year land surface temperature variation, the authors believe that this work draws attention to an important scientific issue that requires further investigation.

The estimated warming trends only apply to the study region and to the study period, and thus should not be interpolated into other regions, globally or over longer periods. For a given wind farm, once there are no new wind turbines added, the warming effect may reach a stable level.

The study represents a first step in exploring the potential of using satellite data to quantify the possible effects of the development of big wind farms on weather and climate, said Chris Thorncroft of SUNY-Albany, a co-author of the paper.

Other authors of the paper include Lance Bosart at SUNY-Albany, Yuhong Tian of NOAA, and Yuanlong Hu at Terra-Gen Power LLC in San Diego, Calif.

“This study indicates that land surface temperatures have warmed in the vicinity of large wind farms in west-central Texas, especially at night,” says Anjuli Bamzai, program director in the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences, which funded the research. “The observations and analyses are for a relatively short period, but raise important issues that deserve attention as we move toward an era of rapid growth in wind farms in our quest for alternate energy sources.”

Most Americans have no idea what truly went on behind closed doors during the crafting and illegitimate passing of Obamacare, also known as thePatient Protection and Affordable Care Act. But a congressional investigation currently underway is seeking to unearth the dirty details, including how drug giants like Pfizer Inc. and Merck & Co. greased the financial wheels to make sure their pharmaceuticals received preferential treatment as part of the health care overhaul.

As reported by Bloomberg, Republicans from the House Energy and Commerce Committee have been toiling for roughly a year now to obtain key documents, emails and other pertinent information exposing the truth about Big Pharma’s role in the creation of Obamacare. But to date, neither the Obama White House nor Big Pharma has cooperated in any significant way in releasinganyof this information, according to the committee.

“This has been like pulling teeth, trying to get information,” said Congressman Michael Burgess (R-Tex.), to Bloomberg. Besides Pfizer and Merck, drug companies Amgen Inc., Abbott Laboratories and AstraZeneca are also being pressed by Rep. Burgess and his allies for information, as are industry lobbyists, lawyers, and several doctor and hospital groups.

What is it they hope to find? To start, it is already clear that Big Pharma agreed to provide price discounts on drugs in exchange for their being covered as part of Obamacare. But other secret deals between Obama and the drug industry were likely made as well, and Rep. Burgess wants to know what those were and under what terms they were negotiated.

“For [Big Pharma], the ACA (Obamacare) is a gift, bringing in anywhere between 30 – 40 million people who could not previously afford pharmaceuticals,” Peter Pitts from theCenter for Medicine in the Public Interestis quoted as saying by Medical Marketing and Media.

Meanwhile, at least 26 U.S. states are currently challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare, and the Supreme Court is expected to rule on the constitutionality of Obamacare in late June.

This potential nullification of Obamacare at both the state and federal levels would obviously also nullify the special deals made between the Obama White House and Big Pharma. But for the time being, full disclosure and transparency — which was the hallmark rhetoric of the Obama campaign from the beginning — is in due order.

In my opinion, this is the single greatest environmental pollution event that has ever hit the west coast of North America. The slow-motion aspects of it have fooled an unwitting public. It far exceeds the Santa Barbara or Exxon Valdez oil spills in gross tonnage and also geographic scope. (I was in Prince William Sound during the during the Exxon Valdez oil spill and so have a sense of comparison).

Tens of thousands of miles of coastline from California to the Aleutian Islands are going to be hit with billions of pounds of toxic debris. NOAA’s latest estimate is that 1.5 million tons of largely plastic debris will hit the western United States coast. That is 30 billion pounds. We expect Alaska to get the largest percentage of that with much of it lodging on northern Gulf of Alaska beaches. Most of this will be plastic which is full of inherent toxic chemicals that will leach into the environment for generations.

Possibly worse are the millions of containers full of anything from household chemicals to toxic industrial chemicals that are floating our way. They will eventually burst upon our shores…in sensitive inter-tidal spawning and rearing habitat, endangering shorebirds, marine mammals, fish and everything in between. We are already finding empty and partially full containers of tsunami related chemicals and fuel drums along the northern Gulf of Alaska shoreline. The heavier fuller containers will come later because the wind doesn’t push them as fast toward the Gulf of Alaska as they are more current driven. The light-weight, high-windage debris such as Styrofoam, buoys, bottles, empty containers and drums have already arrived in staggering quantities.

A new amendment to California’s Health and Safety Code as it relates to vaccinations will take effect this fall for the 2012-2013 school year, and will require all incoming seventh graders, as well as eighth and twelfth graders for the first year, to get a Tdap booster vaccination for pertussis (whooping cough) before being admitted to school. The website of the Marin County School District, which includes the city of San Francisco, literally states “No shot, No School!” in an apparent attempt to strong-arm parents into complying with the new provision.

Even though students in California can be exempted from any and all vaccinations for medical or personal reasons, most parents are largely unaware of this fact. And because of the 2010 whooping cough outbreak in California, many parents will likely just comply with the new Tdap requirement simply out of fear that their child could be the next victim of the disease, even though the Tdap vaccine itself has been shown to be ineffective at protecting against whooping cough (http://www.naturalnews.com).

Unless parents specifically request a Personal Belief Exemption Form (PBEF) from their local health department’s Immunization Program, their school-age children are required to get whatever vaccinations the State Department of Public Health decides is necessary from year to year. And those wishing to opt out of the new Tdap requirement will need to specifically request a CDPH 8261 form from the school (http://vaclib.org/exempt/states/ca/FAQ-CDPH8261.htm).

The interesting thing about DTaP, Tdap, and other pertussis vaccines is that they have never been tested for long-term safety, and they have never been proven to work. In fact, as we reported previously, the majority of the children who developed whooping cough during the 2010 scare had already been vaccinated against the disease. It was also revealed openly that pertussis vaccinations do not provide “lasting protection” against the disease.

Every California parent has a right to know the truth about Tdap and DTaP, not to mention the many other vaccines they are told their children are required to receive upon entering school for their own safety. They also have a right to know that they can exempt their children from such vaccines for medical or personal reasons. Sadly, most of them know neither, which is why it is crucially important to spread this information far and wide.

FDA promised not to enforce the NDI guidance until it was final. Last Friday, they broke that promise.

The specific provision that FDA has decided to enforce is the one that says synthetic botanicals will no longer be considered New Dietary Ingredients and must never be sold as supplements, only as drugs. Last Friday, FDA issued a press release and sent warning letters to ten companies who sell supplements containing DMAA(dimethylamylamine), which is advertised to increase energy, concentration, and metabolism. The manufacturer says DMAA is derived from the Asian geranium—specifically, geranium oil.

In their warning letters, FDA said the supplements are technically classed as “adulterated” for two reasons: (1) DMAA has not gone through the NDI notification process, and (2) it is a synthetically produced botanical which, by definition, is not an NDI.

However, the claim that a synthetic botanical is not a dietary ingredient is nowhere to be found in the law governing supplements: the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA). This new distinction comes exclusively from the NDI draft guidance, which is one reason we called it a perversion of congressional intent.

For years drug companies have studied plants for medicinal uses. As we noted recently, if they find a useful plant, the next step is to try to create a synthetic analog of the natural plant substance—a new molecule that can be patented and then taken through the FDA as a new drug. With this provision in the NDI draft guidance, FDA is giving drug companies a monopoly on synthetics, knowing full well that, in general, natural products cannot be patented while synthetics can, and only patented substances can afford to be brought through the hugely expensive FDA approval process.

The worst part is that FDA is now treating the guidance as if it has been finalized—something they promised not to do. In February, FDA held a meeting with the Natural Products Association (NPA), and explicitly told the group that until FDA finishes reviewing comments and releases final guidance, it would enforce only DSHEA and not the draft guidance. Now they’ve gone back on their word.

In addition, we would point out that FDA has still not addressed the many formal comments that were submitted on the synthetic botanicals question. We, and many others, said that FDA’s claim that synthetic constituents of botanicals are not NDIs while synthetic constituents of any other substance are NDIs is a completely arbitrary distinction. Taking action when they haven’t reviewed any of the thousands of pages in public comments makes a complete sham of the formal comment period. Moreover, FDA shouldn’t be enforcing a guidance when it is still in the draft stages anyway—that’s the point of it being a draft.

Worse, by going outside the bounds of DSHEA, the NDI guidance is basically creating new law, which the FDA is not allowed to do. Instead of issuing proper regulations and going through the formal rulemaking process (as is required when creating a new law), the FDA sidestepped everything by issuing a guidance. Technically, a guidance is not legally binding—which makes lawsuits difficult—but as feared, the FDA is enforcing the guidance as if it were.

DMAA is not without some controversy. Last year, two soldiers died after having heart attacks during fitness exercises, and both happened to be taking supplements that contained DMAA, though as of this writing, DMAA has not been conclusively linked to the deaths. A spokesperson for the manufacturer said that “there have been over one billion doses of DMAA-containing products taken without a single corroborated serious” health problem among people who used the products as directed. Just to be safe, the US Army is investigating, and the Defense Department has removed all products containing DMAA from stores on military bases until the safety review is complete.

If DMAA is proven to be unsafe, it should be removed, plain and simple. If it is a New Dietary Ingredient, then by all means it should go through the NDI notification process as outlined by DSHEA. But let’s just stop this nonsense about it being illegal because it’s a synthetic botanical—that is not a requirement of DSHEA. That requirement comes only from FDA, and it is not supported by law.

Here’s the crux of the matter: If FDA fully enforces this guidance as drafted, we will likely lose between 22,240 and 41,700 nutritional supplements  from the market, at an economic loss of between $5.6 billion and $10.5 billion; the nutritional supplement market could shrink by between 28% and 52.5%, producing an annual loss for the industry of between $7.84 billion to $14.7 billion; and between 55,720 and 104,475 jobs in the supplement industry could be lost.

Let’s be clear: this is not about DMAA. This is the FDA setting in motion its draft guidance, which threatens our access to more than half of the supplements we all need to stay and get healthy.

In a desperate attempt to avoid implementing an actual ban on the non-therapeutic use of antibiotic drugs in factory animal feed, the U.S.Food and Drug Administration(FDA) has once again made it abundantly clear that it favors corporate interests over public health. In a recent announcement, the FDA publicly petitioned the factory food industry tovoluntarilystop using antibiotics, claiming that this hands-off, non-regulatory approach will somehow be more effective at curbing antibiotic overuse than a mandatory ban would be.

The announcement comes just weeks after a federal judge took the FDA to task for its blatant disregard for public health, andorderedthe agency to begin withdrawing approval for the non-therapeutic use of certain antibiotics in animal feed (http://www.ucsusa.org). But instead of stepping up to the plate to fulfill these federally-mandated legal duties, the FDA has instead chosen to stage a meaningless publicity stunt that will do absolutely nothing to fix the problem.

Meanwhile, the drug companies that produce penicillin and tetracycline, the two antibiotics ordered by the federal judge to be banned, have the opportunity to challenge the ruling. But if they fail at an evidentiary hearing to prove the drugs’ safe and effective use in animal feed, which they likely will be unable to do, then the FDA will not get away with simplyrequestingthat the food industry withdraw the drugs’ use — on the contrary, the FDA will berequiredto ban their use in accordance with the law.

“For the past 35 years, while advocates and citizens alike have been urging FDA to take action, the problem has steadily worsened and FDA has sat on its hands, which begs the question of whose interests the agency is protecting,” said Margaret Mellon, senior scientist at theUnion of Concerned Scientists‘ (UCS) Food & Environment Program, in a statement. “The FDA has known since the 1970s that the routine use of powerful antibiotics in livestock leads to the evolution of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which cause infections that are more difficult to treat in both people and animals.”

FDA plays word games to conceal itsselling out tothe factory food industry

The FDA really has no valid excuse as to why it has deliberately failed for more than 35 years to address the problem of non-therapeutic antibiotic use in factory animal feed. And now that the public is finally catching on to the FDA’s cozy coalescence with the factory food industry, the agency is being forced to at least acknowledge the issue.

But rather than acknowledge it in a sound and reasonable way, the FDA has resorted to playing word games that completely dodge the issue. Despite the fact that a federal judge has alreadyorderedthe two most common antibiotic culprits to be banned, for instance, the FDA is now claiming that this voluntary approach will perform the same function without the need for litigation.

“The new strategy will ensure farmers and veterinarians can care for animals while ensuring the medicines people need remain safe and effective,” FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg is quoted as saying in a recentReutersreport.

Huh? Farmers and veterinarians will still have the ability to “care for animals” following a ban on non-therapeutic antibiotic use, hence the “non-therapeutic” designation. And yet Hamburg would have us all believe that simply asking the industry to regulate itself will somehow better address the problem than actually regulating it. Do not be fooled by such nonsense.

John Holdren , Obama’s Science Adviser believes that geo-engineering will assist the planet is stabilizing its weather with regard to global warming.

Holdren sees geo-engineering as a perfectly viable way to cool the planet’s temperature. He fully supports the process of releasing particles of barium, magnesium, aluminum, nano-fibers, bacillus blood spores and other chemicals to reflect sunlight away from the Earth.

In an article released in the Council of Foreign Relations Journal by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the organization praised the use of heavy metals into our atmosphere to combat global warming. This reasoning is a hoax, considering that man-made climate change is a lie perpetrated onto the world’s populations by the global Elite and the UN’s IPCC. Scientists worldwide have come to the fact that the sun is heating up not only our Earth, but all the planets in our solar system.

The National Institute of Health has found that geo-engineering is directly responsible for neurotoxins found in human blood, lungs; as well as causing a whole host of neurotoxic conditions such as multiple sclerosis.

Holdren is joining the man-made climate change alarmists who threaten that global warming will not be slowed down in time to reverse the imaginary “tipping point”. One of the claims is that the ice will completely melt in the Arctic; although scientific researchers show that this is blatantly untrue.

A Syracuse University study found that climate change is natural and not caused by man.

The researchers studied the Earth’s heat cycles over 1,000 years in the past until now. They found:

• Earth is actually cooling
• Arctic ice is not melting
• CO2 is not the cause for the extreme weather changes recently seen

Holdren blames human emissions of CO2 as responsible for droughts, food storage shortages, and rising sea levels, along with the extreme weather we have recently seen.

Holdren is not alone in perpetrating this hoax.

The American Meteorological Society is devising a policy statement that will support this lie by saying that “it is prudent to consider geo-engineering’s potential, to understand its limits and to avoid rash deployment.”

Robert Socolow, a Princeton scientist, told the National Academy that geo-engineering should be a readily made viable option in case climate worsens dramatically.

While sound scientific data shows that CO2 is not the problem, other viable perpetrators are ignored.Geo-engineering itself is grossly detrimental to the atmosphere and a direct causation to the major changes we have witnessed in modern decades.

Holdren is upholding Obama’s goal of cutting greenhouse emissions 20% by 2020 and 80% by 2050.

Members of Congress are showing signs of opposing Obama’s bill to achieve this goal.

Holdren’s recent statement is obvious fear-mongering propaganda designed to coerce Capitol Hill and the American public of “truths” surmised by unscientific data.

The auto industry is ever-changing and there are few who are willing to make concrete predictions about where it’s going and what it’s going to be like five, ten, or fifty years from now. Today, intrepid reader, we shall boldly go where no coherently intelligent life forms have gone before.

Like Carl Sagan and Nostradamus, we shall step forth into the far reaches of the cosmos and bring back knowledge of the future. So sit back, relax, and begin humming Planet Caravan because this is going to be more fun than a Grateful Dead concert with Pantera as the opening act.

Prediction #1
Car design will continue to suck with occasional bouts of genius thrown in just to keep us interested. As cars become more and more of the same, designers will stretch the limits of chrome add-ons and oddly-shaped headlights that are really expensive to replace in order to try to make up for the boring style mandated by aerodynamic requirements.

Once in a while, a flash-in-the-pan genius will pull a Bruno Sacco style one-off that will be shown as a “pre-production concept” – probably with the ubiquitous gull wings – at several auto shows and then suddenly hit the market as just another crappy upfit of an existing model, boring-ness completely intact and gullwings long gone. Most of the automotive press will ignore this and instead focus on the design horrific that one of the big European names trots out by mistake.

Prediction #2
Korea will rise and dominate as Japan falters and begins to crumble – the U.S. and Europe will just keep doing what they’ve always done: playing catch-up. Japanese automakers are due for a lot of failure and/or consolidation. The big boys (Toyota, Honda, Nissan) will hold or lose margins while smaller makers like Mitsubishi and Suzuki will struggle for relevance and probably ultimately become sideshow acquisitions by other manufacturers. Meanwhile, the Korean duo of Hyundai-Kia will continue pumping out newer, better, cheaper, faster, and more economical machines that will continue growing them towards dominance of most of the world’s markets – with the exception of China, where they’re having a struggle gaining interest thanks to long-held racial-nationalistic enmity.

With each successive model release from Korea, American and European automakers will attempt to make (non-carbon) copies to capture market share in sectors they’ve made reputations for poo-pooing in the past. Ford will be the only of the group that does well with this approach, thanks mainly to their ability to look beyond hybrids as a “green solution.”

Prediction #3
Technology is going to radically change how we drive our cars and within the decade, it will be liability issues, not lack of tech, that will keep fully hands-free driving off the road. With Google and Audi leading the way, automated driving is taking hold.

Ten years ago, people had a hard time getting the idea of OnStar and satellite radio. Five years ago, having the car park itself was just a pipe dream. Today, we can listen to any music anytime and anywhere, cars can call emergency services when we’ve been in an accident, can park themselves, stay in the center of the lane on the highway, put on the brakes to avoid collisions, and more. Automated, robotic cars are already on the roads being tested live right now. One climbed Pike’s Peak and others crawl the streets of California and Nevada. Still more are on test tracks linking together in road trains in an automotive version of Follow the Leader.

Soon, your commute will look more like a breakfast bar with guilt-free shaving and makeup applications as your car does all the tedious waiting on the freeway-cum-parking lot.

Prediction #4
Newer, smaller, better and cheaper will continue to be the name of the game under the hood.Innovations nobody really notices will propagate like rabbits in spring. Metals will become lighter and stronger, accessory items will become smaller and less energy-consumptive, engines will shrink without losing power output, batteries will no longer be 900-pound lead-acid gorillas, and electronics to replace mechanicals in everything from the gearbox to braking will become the norm.

People, meanwhile, will get heavier to compensate. Action-reaction and all those other natural laws, you know. Someone has to feed the bunnies.

Prediction #5
Ten years from now, your alternative vehicle of choice will still not be a major part of any market share. Everyone but green gurus knows that hybrids, electrics, fuel cells, and so on aren’t going to become a huge chunk of any market anytime soon. Yes, they’ll get better and better, their prices will drop, and so on, but so will their competitors in the fuel-burning sector.

The good news? Fuels will get greener and the cars burning them will also be so. The United States will still stubbornly keep a death grip on the corn ethanol green dream, but most of the world will move on and find something better. You know, like almost anything else.

This is a new product from the company called “Surfy.”  It’s an all surface cleaner and it works really well.  It uses the same natural enzyme process their other products do and it does it without harmful chemicals or questionable ingredients.

The trick with this spray is to spray it on and let it sit for a minute or two before wiping.  It does well on grease, dirt, and household grime, but doesn’t really get rid of hard water deposits or similar non-organic messes.

Definitely worth using.

Monsanto, the massive biotechnology company being blamed for contributing to the dwindling bee population, has bought up one of the leading bee collapse research organizations. Recently banned from Poland with one of the primary reasons being that the company’s genetically modified corn may be devastating the dying bee population, it is evident that Monsanto is under serious fire for their role in the downfall of the vital insects. It is therefore quite apparent why Monsanto bought one of the largest bee research firms on the planet.

It can be found in public company reports hosted on mainstream media that Monsanto scooped up the Beeologics firm back in September 2011. During this time the correlation between Monsanto’s GM crops and the bee decline was not explored in the mainstream, and in fact it was hardly touched upon until Polish officials addressed the serious concern amid the monumental ban. Owning a major organization that focuses heavily on the bee collapse and is recognized by the USDA for their mission statement of “restoring bee health and protecting the future of insect pollination” could be very advantageous for Monsanto.

In fact, Beelogics’ company information states that the primary goal of the firm is to study the very collapse disorder that is thought to be a result — at least in part — of Monsanto’s own creations. Their website states:

While its primary goal is to control the Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) and Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus (IAPV) infection crises, Beeologics’ mission is to become the guardian of bee health worldwide.
