Erin + Mike Engaged | Seattle Engagement Photographer

Mike is my friend from college. Last year Mike landed an awesome job in Spokane and got engaged to Erin. They came over to Seattle for an engagement session and it was the first time I had ever gotten to spend much time with Erin. Not only is she smart but she has a good sense of humor and is super laid back. As luck would have it, we had pretty bad weather during their engagement session and the rain did not let up so we darted in and out of the cold to get some shots. Luckily, Erin and Mike didn’t mind too much and they were enjoying getting to explore some of the city. I had such a great time with them and am really glad that I got a chance to spend more time with Erin. I absolutely adore her and her daughter Kayla.

I can’t wait for their wedding in New York this summer!

Baby S | Seattle Family Photographer

We have been super busy this past month planning an ultra fabulous styled shoot and preparing for a lot of traveling. It has been great having a chance to focus on something a little different after the wedding season calmed down. Last month I also got the chance to photograph my friend Nikki and Matt’s new baby. We set the scene to get some sleepy photos but at 2 months she just wasn’t having it! Luckily for me, Baby S was interested in everything we were doing and smiling through the whole morning. Since I don’t photograph many baby and family sessions with all the weddings, I always feel super lucky when I am able to during the off-season. Plus with a subject like this super smiley, adorable baby my job is easy!

Baby S is Nikki and Matt’s first baby which is an exciting and sometimes frustrating time. I watch from a distance and hear small updates on how they are doing, how baby S is sleeping (or more like NOT sleeping), how they are juggling baby care and work and slowly trying to adapt. It is a very important time in their life and I can’t help but thinking they are pretty amazing people. Not because they are doing what parents do but because they are doing it with such grace and they are cultivating so much love in their new little family. Matt and Nikki have great big hearts that have only grown bigger with the new addition.

Featured in Seattle Magazine February 2012 Issue

Evan picked up a copy of the February issue of Seattle Magazine that has a little bridal section this month and I have a full page photo inside!

Here’s a great little tip for photographers looking to get published. We all know it is important to use the rule of thirds when composing your photographs but it is also important to use negative space to frame and enhance your photo. Negative space can be utilized to draw the attention in to the important subject or emotional moment. Magazine editors also need images that have appropriate negative space so that they can insert headings or type without having to have a magazine full of blocks of text and photographs that never blend well. Using the sky, the ground or neutral spaces at the sides of images work really well.
