We were going to put this Lower track up last week but didn’t quite get round to pressing ‘live’ which is a shame because it definitely suited the seemingly endless months of GREY GREY GREY we were going through. It seems kind of weird in the sunshine – almost a bit Goths in Hot Weather – but what the hell, the guitar line still makes me want to pummel things and it only lasts 2.29 so stick it in a playlist between Jazzy Jeff and Modjo, Lady and watch everyone look confused. PS Elias from Iceage loves this band.

Luca Santucci & Ben Fitzgerald aka the people behind that lovelorn white label ‘Need Someone’ that got people all grabby over last year, emerge from their London griefhole once again with a new EP on new label Kaya Kaya. There’s a million great things going on here, from the pitch shifted soulful vocals (listen up for that note at 3.30) and dancefloor fit drums to the mystifying sound of seagulls. Well, I guess it is summer…

Jacques Greene – Prism

Our Canadian favourite Jacques Greene moves away from his own VASE label with a release for Martyn’s 3024 label but, hey, wherever he is you know he’s going to be making killer tracks and using R&B vocals in increasingly inventive ways. “This track is definitely NOT unsigned” says the label head, protectively, as he introduces it and we can definitely hear why he wouldn’t want anyone else getting their hands on it.

Becoming Real – Solar Dreams/Neon Decay

Word has it that Becoming Real took things to the next level at the opening of Tough Love’s ‘Just Fantasy’ night last weekend. Maybe that’s because he was playing new material from his new EP Solar Dreams/Neon Decay. As we know already Snow Drive Love and Work Me show are more direct dance tracks, while Slow Memory, featuring Sunless 97′s Alice show he can still do subtle chilly electronica. I admit it, my favourite Nicolas Jaar tracks are the not the ones when he’s smart with classical music or creates some mind-fucking beats; it’s when he’s collaborating with the daughters of hollywood legends. On Just One Glance he worked with Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s daughter Scout and here Stephen Spielberg’s daughter Sasha is providing her impressive pipes on a cover of Leonard Cohen’s Avalanche as part of their Just Friends project. Will it convince you to shell out for one of his £40 Prisms?

Splashh – All I Wanna Do/Lemonade

London (via the Southern Hemisphere) grunge kids Splashh have been causing a bit of a stir since they first emerged online a few months ago. It’s an excitement that’s got even more frenzied since their near perfect first live show a couple of weeks ago and, once you listen to their debut single, you’ll see why. Set for release on the Kissability label, ‘All I Wanna Do’ is all our favourite things in one – infectious, breezily nonchalant and fun. Essentially, it’s a masterclass in how to make lo-fi guitar pop sound completely fucking vital.

‘All I Wanna Do’ is released on June 6th via Kissability as a limited edition cassette (50 copies). As with all Kissability releases, the tape comes with a QR code to download a free Splashh bootleg, recorded at the launch party at the Queen of Hoxton on the day of release.

Peace – Li’l Echo

Fresh from causing a whole load of queues at the Great Escape in Brighton, Birmingham’s Peace share the b side to their single Follow Baby. Harrison Kossier explains the track is “darker, slower and whippier” (what’s whippier??? – ed) the product of the most confused and tortured part of his soul. Yes, it’s the band’s first ballad. Listen below and for more, check out this video interview with Red Bull. Today the band have announced that they are signing with Columbia Records. “Signing with Columbia means that we are going to pour our everything over the next whatever into creating a record & basically no one can stop us” they say Not reality nor consequence. It’s a bit like getting knocked up. We just had some unprotected sex with Columbia & we’re keeping it.We demanded a billboard from the label kind of as a joke and they 100% pulled through. It’s one of those moments where the joke goes just far enough before someone gets hurt. No one is hurting.”
