Many difficulties encountered due to the NEW BLOGGER!! I had to use external script to import from NEW BLOGGER!

Fortunately, posts and comments were imported! UNFORTUNATELY, the damned importer didn't import comments properly! It only shows the last 25 comments of each post!! this is screwed up!!

Do you have any idea how to fix it ?? :(

I don't know, perhaps I'll just let it go or maybe I'll import them manually ! :)

Anyway, tell me how do you like the new theme ???

I'm still looking for new themes, and I also need to categorize my posts and update the side bar widgets: blogroll, pages, ..

so please if I happen to appear on your blogroll, update your bookmarks and edit my link!

Happy Single Awareness Day

"Happy Single Awareness Day". Weird, isn't it ?

As girlish as it may seem, and since I've been doing nothing but : eating, sleeping, gaining weight, and surfing the web since my last exam at the university. So yesterday I decided to get out of bed and surprisingly I decided to go out to do something else rather than buying food!

I went to buy perfume and I really enjoyed the smell of the shop! Not only the smell, but the look of the shop. An extreme makeover, they changed the facade of the shop and decorated everything with the color "red" ! As I always act, a stranger from another planet, I asked the guys there (with all the assurance in the world in my voice) if it is the apples celebration or the national day of trees (I don't know where I got these terms from anyway)! They giggled, and said it's for "VALENTINE's DAY" !

I laughed, picked up my perfume (Dunhill for the curious) and walked back home! Ahh, the shop is infront of the mansion where I live, I can see it from the window lol..

Anyway, It's February/3rd and I decided to celebrate already...and this is how the celebration went: I sneaked to the blog archives of my friends and read what they wrote in the last couple of years in February, specifically in February/14th (I deleted my post of last february/14th *angel*) and look at what I found:

The most interesting blog was JNET, of course!

In February 2005, she wouldn't stay alone or let her friends spend the night alone so she invited her friends to party at her house! Good idea JNET!!

I don't invite anybody to my room..! :D

In February 2006, she was greeted "Happy Single Awareness Day" !

Actually I didn't wanna talk about Valentine's day in specific, but about occasions like Eid, Christmans, Hanukka, ..etc.

Apart from the religious importance of some occasions (which we pay the least attention for), I think today these occasions are making people feel nothing but bad about themselves. Not everyone have enough money to buy new cloths for the Eid, not everyone have families to spend Christmas with, and orphans have no fathers to greet on father's day!

Happy single awareness day :P

Bloggers are getting married ?!

It seems that I've missed much during the last "ugly" semester! I think the situation in the blogsphere could be summarized by one word "Marriage" LOL

First, there was this intillegent blogger "Neverland" who deleted her blog after getting married! We missed you Neverland and we wish you joy and happiness :)

Then, few months ago Fadi posted the big news of his engagement which for some reason I though that his bride was Neverland, anyway he was so happy! Fadi is a good guy and I'm sure he will be as happy as he deserve :)

Now what I've missed is the engagement of another two fabulous bloggres:

1) Ramroom.

What can I say ?? alf mabrook! I wish you the best! and congratulations for your new car :P

2) THE BIGGEST NEWS HERE IS ===> Dino (IsLaMiC Chocoholic) !! Here I'm very surprised!! Dino is the funniest blogger of all times!! She was posting alot about her love story with a cow that saved her life and to be honest I beleived that she's going to marry her cow and ,..LOL

Well, It's a long story! It's about my graduation project (yes SimSim, you're guesses are right :P ).

I said before that this is my last semester at university ensha'allah...mmm It seems that I lost my blogging skills ! *sobs*

Ok, here's the story, my graduation project supervisor assigned me an infeasible task in a short period of time, so I just needed my full brain to solve that problem. And thank god, It's almost done...but to be honest, for the first time in my life I reached some points of depression and I was astonished by my depression..it was not me!! It was actually at the end of December, nobody knew.

This is how I was !

I noticed that the Eid has come and ended !! Also christmas passed and I forgot to send my christian friends any greetings (sorry Rami !!)...oh we are in 2007 now !! LOL

by the way, it's 2:30 am now, and tomorrow I have to submit the report of my graduation project, and I've JUST finished it! Booh!!! I need to celebrate...sometimes a man needs an audience!

Anyway, I'm warning you guys!! yes I'm WARNING YOU!!!! MY BIRTHDAY IS ON 13/Jan !!! usually nobody remembers my birthday except my mother and one out of 5 aunts!!

Let me proudly introduce Dr.Taisir Eldos, from the Computer Engineering department, one of the best professors I've ever met. He's the first professor to blog in JUST and probably in Jordan. His blog is pure technical, yet interesting, highly informative, and has the most up to date information about the new technologies in the world of Computing. If you wanna know how the future will look like, then keep en eye on Dr.Taisir Blog.

Alumni:

1) Arabesque Rhapsody : Architecture 2001.

Ohoud's Arabesuqe Rhapsody is one of the first blogs I've read. I accidentally visited her blog last year, and ever since I become a dedicated fan. It is an interesting mixture of topics that includes Architecture, Art, books, politics, culture, Jordan, personal stuff, Palestine, and personal musings.

2) Rain Drop: Computer Engineering ( what year? )

Cool blog that contains miscellaneous stuff about computers, technology, humor, Palestine, and politics.

3) Sami Majed: Electrical Engineering BA 1998, MA 2003

Great blog about politics, palestinian cause, and middle east crises.

Graduate Students:

1) Khaled Nazzal: MA student at the Biosystems department.

He is one of the worst bloggers in the world, don't you ever visit his blog; it contains adults stuff only :P

I met this guy few days ago at the university, and I would like to tell you that he is one of the best people I've ever met. He is very decent, smart, funny, and brilliant. He is one of few people I made friends with in zero time.

His blog is one of my favorites. It's a personal, political, humorous, and amusing blog. It's a must read blog!

1) Dar: Medicine 2001

Darweesh is a nice guy and so is his blog. His blog is a peaceful web space about his life (or his crazy life as he says). He talks about the challenges facing Med students along with some sarcastic posts about our daily Jordanian life.

2)Abed. Hamdan ( English | Arabic ) : Computer Engineering 2002

Ok my blogs ! The best blogs in the world, of course! lol

3) VagueRaz : Computer Engineering 2002

A personal friend of mine, she's new to blogging, and her blog is an Arabic blog, usually contains personal rants and rambles about everything.

4) Walid Al-Zebda: Computer Engineering 2002

One of my best friends, he's new to blogging, and is currently busy due to graduation project and tuff courses like yours truly.

5) Amani's World: Computer Engineering 2003

I accidentally discovered this blog few days ago. It's amazing how she blogged in "Japanese" !! Yes, she had studied Japanese ! alone!!

The blog is mainly technical, and contains some photos of the university and of our LABs. I happen to be in the one of those Labs, physically in this Lab; I know nothing about it. It's called "Interfacing LAB", that's what everybody but students of 2002 call it.

We call it "Entertainment LAB" ;) Oh, actually all Labs have been nothing but entertainment rooms!

6) Amer : Computer Engineering 2006

The blog is called "GalaG" and he claims that JUST is a place where there is no hot chicks or cool stuff to do ;) I haven't met this guy, but I already like him.

This is a video blog, probably the first Jordanian video blog ( see ? JUST students are creative :P ). I like this blog, there are many funny videos, and he makes his own clips.

7) Sayed Mahmood Alaali: Computer Information Systems 2003

A fellow student from Bahrain, his blog is an Arabic blog about programming, religion, Jordan, and various interesting stuff.

8) Ahmad Durazi : Computer Engineering 2003

Another personal friend of mine, collegue, and a brother from Bahrain. He is new to blogging, his blog is currenlty a personal blog..welcome Mr. Ahmad durazi (aka Bahraini!)

9) Yugi (Issa) : Computer Science 2004

An interesting blog , again from the Computer Science department, about Technology, Jordan, JUST, ..etc.

I've noticed that most Egyptians are only aware of Ahmad Zewail as a noticable famous scientist because of his Nobel prize in Chemistry.

If you haven't heared of the outstanding Egyptian-American cryptographer Taher El Gamal, then I suggest you go read his biography here.

The ElGamal algorithm is now used in the free GNU Privacy Guard software, recent versions of PGP, and other cryptosystems.

Wake up and smell the coffee

Sunday,the 5th of November 2006 was one of the worst days ever. I've been deeply depressed last night, I've never been depressed this way since the year 2001. Very cold rainy night. Cloudy morning, it's probably one of the coldest days of the year in Irbid city. I just went to university, without talking to anybody. My mind was paralyzed, as well as my body. I was like a dead blue body, giving a yellow smile to anybody that bother saying good morning.

I was thinking about the curse of being a Palestinian. Usually people at our age are depressed due to breaking up with their girl friends or because they didn't get the latest fancy iPod. But being a Palestinian, means that you should always be stressed, watching the news, wishing that one day you will be able to see your cousins that have been thrown in the Israeli jails for the next 500 yrs for no reason or wondering about how could it be if your x relative is still alive.

You can't meet any Palestinian family that haven't lost one or two of its children. Not to mention living in the possibility of hearing that your uncle got shot because was buying bread.

What really hit me last night is the post of my dear friend Sharifo (Click Here for Sharifo's post in Arabic) who worte about his friend that got shot in Gaza in the recent brutal, coward, immoral, scandalous, hopeless attack against Gaza. For god sake, more than 40 56 people got killed, more than 250 wounded, many children and women got shot for no reason! worse yet, It doesn't seem to end anysoon, and this attack is approved by the fucked up super powers.

Sharifo's friend, Hamza Al-Attar has been shamelessly shot by a coward terrorist Israeli soldier, he is in comma right now. Hamza is journalist works for a local news agency. Yes, a young journalist who has been in business for two months only. As Sharifo described him, he is a young, ambitious guy who works hard to make his dreams come true. But this is obviously a crime. It's a crime to be journalist and let the world know the truth. It's a crime to have dreams and to be Palestinian. It's a crime to be a human being and live in Gaza. It's a big a crime. It's a crime to be Palestinian and live decently.

This unfortunate crime reminded me of people I've lost years ago, and I know how this situation feels, being shocked and numb. You're extremely sad, but you shouldn't let your enemy see you sad, you shouldn't let your enemy know that his plans are affecting you. All that your enemy should see is strength, faith, and endless tolerance. Tears are forbidden, and sadness is something should be depicted by a smile. You should be the source of hope for everybody else even if you need hope more than anything else.

For Sharifo, I wouldn't say much. I know this guy through blogs only, but I could sense his "Palestinianness", and hence he will be the one who give everybody support even when he's the one who need it the most.

Tips: Blog-time management

I will try to summarize the discussion we had here on how to reduce or manage the time spent on writing/reading blogs, and I will add my own tips.

1) If you have a very long free time, then don't bother reading this!

2) Previously agree on the amount of time you want to spend reading other blogs before you start. (e.g: say you will spend one hour reading blogs before you start, so that you don't spend more!.) You can also give it a weekly time, like 7 hours a week (1 hr a day).

3) Use RSS readers. If you don't know what RSS or RSS reader is, then Click Here to know about it (Click Here for Arabic explanation of RSS).

4) I recommend Google Reader as an efficient, free, easy, and fast RSS reader. So when using Google Reader, you don't have to follow the blogs you want. Rather, the blogs will follow you! Don't be confused, it's simple. You just sign up for google reader, and then add the blogs you like and you will magically receive the posts of the blogs you want at your google reader inbox. This should reduce the time you waste following the blogs you like; because whenever a blog is updated, you will receive the post directly at your Google Reader! Watch this video to know more about Google Reader.

5) Quality of blogs: Make sure you read useful blogs, and you are the only one who decides what kind of blogs you consider useful.

6) Reduce the number of posts you publish. You don't have to post daily, It wastes your time!

7) Check your blog once or twice a day, to reply comments.

First Muslim woman space tourist is back to earth

Miss "Annousheh Ansari", who was born in Iran but later became a US citizen, is the fourth ever space tourist and the first female space tourist has landed to Earth today.

The capsule carrying Anousheh Ansari as well as crew members from the US and Russia touched down in Kazakhstan early today.

In a statement from space tourism firm Space Adventures, Ms Ansrari was quoted as saying the $25 million trip had exceeded her expectations.

She said:

Blog Modifications

I did some modifications to my blog lately, and I would like to tell you about them if you haven't noticed yet.

1) I moved my Arabic blog from Jeeran to Blogger, because I wanted to use the same theme im using here and Im not familiar with Jeeran yet, so this is my arabic blog:

I put an image banner on the right-side bar so you can check it easily:

2) On the right-side bar also, I added new section called "Abed Picks", without going into unnecessary details, these picks are links for articles in blogs or news or magazines that I found interesting, and they change dynamically, so you can check them from time to time, I always add new links I think they worth reading.

3) This is not a new change, but I want to tell you about the "Subscribe by e-mail", It's also on the right-side bar. So if you are too lazy to check my blog (and you like it), then you can receive what I write via email! Just subscribe, and my blogs will be delivered to your email.

Does blogging waste your time?

So let's be honest, how many hours do you spend browsing here and there through blogs?? looking for something interesting, commenting on one blog, or even fighting with stupid bloggers. I, of course, am enjoying blogging. But seriously, this consumes long time! I tried to manage it, but I couldn't. I succeeded to reduce the number of published posts per month and that really helped, but I couldn't handle the time spent reading other blogs, I really couldn't resist the temptaion to do so!

So is it addiction ?? or It's just a temporary passion ? I once tried to monitor the time I spent writing one post, and reading the blogs on my blogroll, and It took exactly 2 hrs ! and this is a considerable amout of time, at least for me!

Im an addict! not to blogging, but to anything! seriously I am! It's so easy for me to addict to "anything" , that's why I avoid trying anything that some peoeple might addict to, because I know myself lol!

This is an interesting/funny blog that discusses the "blogging addiction" ! I don't think I've reached the addiction level, but take a look at it, it's worth it.

hmm, so do you have any suggestions to manage this ?? I really need your help! tell me what you think :)
