In a July 17, 2026, Mondoweiss investigation, Israeli real estate companies are aggressively marketing land in illegal West Bank settlements, often on confiscated Palestinian property, to Jewish American buyers through promotional events in the U.S., Canada, and UK. The Trump administration has launched a nationwide crackdown on alleged commercial driver's license fraud, announcing investigations into 75 truck driver training schools accused of improperly helping noncitizen drivers obtain commercial licenses and enter America's highways.

The Department of Homeland Security Investigations and the Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced Thursday that the schools are suspected of violations including falsifying training records, using improper certifications, and failing to properly train applicants seeking commercial driver's licenses.

According to DHS, the investigation focuses on the issuance of non-domiciled commercial driver's licenses, which allow certain foreign nationals who are legally present in the United States to obtain commercial driving privileges. Officials said the goal is to identify fraud and strengthen the integrity of the licensing system.

"FMCSA has identified approximately 75 entry-level driving training schools suspected of fraudulent activities, including using improper driver certifications, falsifying training records, and failing to properly train drivers applying for CDLs, among other violations," DHS said. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the investigation was part of a broader effort to prevent dangerous drivers from operating heavy commercial vehicles. "Too many American lives have been lost in completely avoidable accidents because illegal aliens have been granted commercial driver's licenses to drive trucks and 18-wheelers on America's roadways," Mullin said. “DHS law enforcement is partnering with the Department of Transportation to eliminate CDL fraud, strengthen the integrity of the CDL system, and investigate commercial driver’s license schools throughout the country," he added.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the effort expands previous DOT actions targeting drivers and training programs that officials say failed to meet safety requirements. "USDOT has spent the last year rooting out bad actors from our trucking industry," Duffy said. "We've knocked over 24,000 drivers off our roads for failing to speak English, forced states to cancel over 28,000 licenses illegally issued to foreign drivers, and purged over 9,500 unqualified training schools from our FMCSA registry."

How the American Republic became a Managerial State

The United States Constitution was revolutionary. "A republic," Benjamin Franklin is reported to have said, "if you can keep it." They couldn't.

It wasn't supposed to be this way. The United States was the land of the free. Limited government. Checks and balances. Separation of powers. The Bill of Rights. But America has instead become a managed society. Its government dominates the lives of its people. How did it go wrong? Lots of bad steps helped to transform the American republic into a managerial state. Here are eleven of the moments that sent the ship off course.

1. Residual powers: The "necessary and proper clause", 1788

The first American constitution, the Articles of Confederation, didn't last long. Written in 1777 but not fully ratified until 1781, the Articles created a weak federal government. It had a legislature but no executive or judicial branch. It lacked the power to enforce laws or raise money to maintain a military. Under it, the individual States ran the show. Under Article 2, the federal government had only those powers "expressly delegated" to it. In 1787, the Constitutional Congress scrapped the Articles to start again.

But opinions split. Federalists such as Alexander Hamilton wanted a strong central government. Thomas Jefferson warned that centralized power represented a threat to the liberty of the people and the autonomy of the States.

The second constitution, the one that stuck, was ratified in 1788. Section 8 of its first Article enumerated the powers of the federal government. "The Congress shall have the power to ..." But was the list exhaustive? Did the federal government have only those powers expressly delegated, as in the Articles of Confederation? Or did the new constitution give the federal government open-ended, residual powers? Clause 18 of the section contained the most important clue. It authorized Congress to make all laws "necessary and proper" to executing its mandate.

"Necessary and proper" could have meant essential to fulfilling its responsibilities in those areas explicitly listed. But according to Hamilton, the clause gave Congress the authority to pass laws that it regarded to be in the national interest. When Hamilton proposed the creation of a national bank to deal with revolutionary war debt, a power not listed in Article 1, President George Washington eventually agreed.

The tenth amendment, passed in 1791, could have put the genie back in the bottle. Powers "not delegated to the United States by the Constitution," it reads, "nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." That could have meant the federal government had no residual or implied powers. But the section omits the key word: expressly. Article 2 of the Articles of Confederation said the federal government had only those powers expressly delegated. The Tenth Amendment does not use that word. The "necessary and proper" clause delegates powers to the federal government that are not express but implied. That clause is the federal government's blank check. Had the Tenth Amendment said "expressly" delegated, it might have altered the course of American government.

2. Untouchable civil servants: Pendleton Act, 1883

Almost a hundred years later, in 1881, President James A. Garfield was assassinated by one of his own campaign workers. An angry attorney from Illinois named Charles J. Guiteau shot him in the stomach. Jeffrey Tucker tells the story:

[Guiteau] was furious because he believed, due to his work for the [Garfield] campaign, that Garfield would give him a job in the new administration. But none was forthcoming. It was revenge. Garfield died of the wounds months later. It was a shocking thing. Congress immediately got to work figuring out how to prevent the next assassination. They had the theory that they needed to end the system of patronage in government so that way people wouldn't get mad and shoot the president. Not a very good theory but this is how politics works. The result was the Pendleton Act that created a permanent civil service. The new president, Chester Arthur signed the bill in 1883. It was done: the administrative state was born. Under the Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act, certain federal civil servants would no longer serve at the pleasure of the president. The Act initially applied to only about 10 per cent of the positions in the federal government, but its coverage grew rapidly. Today the president cannot appoint or dismiss most federal government employees. But the Pendleton Act and its successors did not end cronyism in the federal service. Instead, it shifted appointment powers from the president to the heads of departments and agencies.

In a republic, the power belongs to the people, if not directly, then at least through their elected representatives. The Pendleton Act legislated the opposite idea: government employees are not subject to the approval of the people's president. If the president does not have the power to appoint and dismiss, how do the people? The answer is that they do not.

3. Medical hegemony: The Flexner Report, 1910

It might seem odd to include a report about medical schools in this list. But in 1910, a report on medical education helped to not just transform but capture the medical system in North America. "Medical Education in the United States and Canada", was written in 1910 by Abraham Flexner. The Carnegie Foundation commissioned it. The American Medical Association (AMA) supported it. John D. Rockefeller funded it. Flexner's ostensible mandate was to enquire into the quality of medical education. His report savaged medical institutions that were not based on allopathic science and pharmaceutical drugs. It attacked their legitimacy, reputation and funding. Many were forced to close. Rockefeller arranged millions of dollars in grants to medical schools, research facilities and hospitals that embraced the report's recommendations.

Allopathic medical treatment came to be regarded as the only legitimate kind of medical care. Alternative approaches to healthcare, such as naturopathy, homeopathy, and osteopathy, were marginalized. The medical profession became a cartel. Competition for the pharmaceutical industry was stamped out. The Flexner Report helped to create a top-down, standardized system of healthcare in North America. Institutional authority, not patient autonomy or informed consent, was its dominant feature. Governments and professional bodies enforce that system to this day. More than a century after the Flexner Report, COVID-19 policies would reflect its principles and confirm its lasting influence.

4. Professional expert class: Woodrow Wilson and the Federal Reserve, 1913

The Pendleton Act weakened political control over rank-and-file federal employees. Woodrow Wilson, sometimes called the first progressive president, took things a step further. Long before he became the President in 1913, Wilson published an essay called "The Study of Administration". In it, he asserted that in a complex society, government administration should be regarded as a professional discipline. Public officials are an expert class in pursuit of the common good. They should be allowed to operate above the political fray.

When he came to office, Wilson put this theory into practice. Congress had already established the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) and Board of General Appraisers, whose heads could not be removed except for cause. Through legislation and executive orders, Wilson created more federal agencies with the power to act independently. Among them were the Federal Reserve and the Federal Trade Commission. The Federal Reserve, created in 1913, wasn't just a government bank, but a policy and regulatory institution. With extensive powers including the ability to set interest rates, regulate banks, and act as lender of last resort, the Federal Reserve acquired the mandate to manage the economy.

In 1935, in Humprey's Executor v United States, the Supreme Court confirmed that commissioners of independent agencies could be dismissed only for cause, removing them from direct presidential control. That precedent stood until June 29, 2026, when the Court overturned Humphrey to allow President Donald Trump to fire Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter from the FTC without cause. The majority opinion found that the FTC exercises executive power. Therefore, said the judgment, its commissioners are subject to removal at the pleasure of the President, in accordance with the separation of powers established in the Constitution.

5. Funding the managerial state: Income taxes and the 16th Amendment, 1913

Before 1913, only death was inevitable. The federal government had levied income taxes before, during the Civil War. But the Supreme Court, in its 1895 decision in Pollock v Farmers' Loan & Trust, insisted that federal income taxes had to be "apportioned among the states," as the First Article of the Constitution states.

That meant that taxes collected from a state with five per cent of America's population were limited to five per cent of the total tax revenue. That prevented the federal government from taxing American citizens on their individual wealth. The 16th Amendment, proposed in 1909 and ratified in 1913, authorized Congress to tax income without apportionment. Congress wasted no time in reinstating a federal tax on incomes over $3,000. The progressive federal income tax system was born.

Their exhaustive investigation revealed numerous procedural defects, including missing ratifications, altered language, and failure to meet constitutional requirements, leading them to conclude that the 16th Amendment was never properly ratified. The findings were meticulously documented in their book The Law That Never Was. Benson has spent over two decades fighting to present this evidence to the American public, enduring significant personal sacrifice including imprisonment. His case, that went to the U.S. Supreme Court, centers on First Amendment protections for disseminating this information rather than tax evasion, highlighting the government's attempt to suppress discussion of these ratification irregularities.

It has been demonstrated there is a profound misunderstanding of the IRS and its origins. The 16th Amendment was never properly ratified, rendering the federal income tax system instituted in 1913 unlawful from its inception. Not one cent of IRS collections flows into the U.S. Treasury; instead, it services interest payments to the Federal Reserve, a private banking cartel. Rather than tweaking a fraudulent system, Congress should abolish the IRS entirely and replace it with nothing, informing the bankster cartel that their investment has failed. The notion of "restoring confidence" in this tax regime is absurd when the foundation itself is constitutionally invalid and unlawful, the system deserves abolition, not reform.

A letter dated 24 June 2025 is a strongly worded formal complaint addressed to the IRS Commissioner, accusing the IRS, the Department of Justice, and lower federal courts of perpetrating a decades-long constitutional fraud and sedition against the American people. The author claims that these agencies have unlawfully enforced the federal personal income tax as a non-apportioned direct tax under the 16th Amendment for over 50 years, in direct violation of the Supreme Court's rulings in Brushaber (1916) and Moore v. United States (2024), which affirm that the income tax is an indirect tax under Article I. It urges the Commissioner, President Trump, and at the time the letter was prepared Attorney General Pam Bondi to recognize this alleged fraud and take corrective action.

What we can conclude then, is the IRS (and its counterpart "Internal Revenue Service") is not a legitimate federal agency but a foreign privateering organization with roots in medieval Church tax collection, the Inquisition, and Civil War-era piracy, operating under color of law as part of a long-running international racketeering and fraud scheme orchestrated by the Vatican, the British Crown, and complicit U.S. Congress that didn't properly ratify the 16th Amendment. The current federal income tax system is unconstitutional, voluntary only, and contradicted by dozens of Supreme Court cases (such as Brushaber, Pollock, and Stanton) that allegedly prove income taxes are indirect and limited, with no lawful authority to impose a direct, unapportioned tax on labor or earnings. The consequences are the ongoing pillaging of the American people to fund wars and redistribution schemes, with Congress unwilling to restrain its own "bill collectors." The continued public inaction makes ordinary citizens accomplices to this fraud and treason, urging them to awaken and take action to dismantle the system.

The contention is the IRS and IRS INC. are foreign, for-profit private collection agencies operating a long-running racketeering scheme against Americans. The IRS under its current operational guidelines is unlawfully impersonating living people as corporate "persons" and "Taxpayers" (British Merchant Marine officers), using false presumptions to collect federal income taxes from individuals who have no federal income or employment. The system, rooted in the Roman Catholic Church's historical Peter's Pence collection and later expanded through the WWII "Victory Tax," relies on deception, non-disclosure, and fabricated Master Files to justify enforcement by the BATF. The immediate shutdown of these organizations as criminal enterprises, full restitution to victims, dismissal of related prosecutions, compensation for damages, and an end to the misuse of U.S. Treasury trademarks for fraudulent collections.

One of the biggest institutional problems with the IRS is that despite all this that has been outlined herein, the average IRS employee is largely ignorant of or indifferent to fringe legal arguments, such as claims that the 16th Amendment was never properly ratified, that the IRS is an illegitimate foreign or private entity, or that income taxes are voluntary/unconstitutional. In a practical sense they are order followers. They perform their roles by applying established statutes, regulations, and court precedents that have repeatedly upheld the federal income tax system. Most view their work as routine administration and enforcement within a lawful framework, prioritizing operational duties, compliance processing, audits, and collections over constitutional scholarship or historical ratification debates. Like many federal bureaucrats, their primary motivations center on job security, stable pay, benefits, and pensions rather than ideological engagement with tax protester theories, which courts have consistently deemed frivolous.

Every concerned American should begin a serious and urgent personal education regarding their true legal relationship to the IRS and the federal income tax system, drawing from the historical, constitutional, and judicial evidence presented in the above linked essays. Understanding the longstanding controversies surrounding the 16th Amendment, the nature of the IRS as a private collection entity, the distinctions between direct and indirect taxation, and the implications of key Supreme Court rulings is essential to protecting your rights and property. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) died unexpectedly on Saturday at the age of 71.

I was born and raised in South Carolina and was his constituent for most of his three decades in Congress.

Graham became a member of the U.S. House in 1995. In 1996, my own political journey began in my early 20s as a Pat Buchanan conservative who avidly supported his insurgent populist bid for the Republican presidential nomination that year.

Graham entered the Senate in January 2003, three months after Buchanan cofounded this magazine as a much-needed conservative outlet opposing any potential war with Iraq. Three months after Graham became a senator, the U.S. invaded Iraq.

For all of that time, through the Clinton, Bush-Cheney, Obama, Trump, and Biden presidencies, right up until Saturday, Graham was arguably the most vociferous advocate in Congress for the neoconservative vision of American foreign policy. More than even most other neocons, Graham thirsted for U.S. intervention anywhere, at any time, for virtually any reason, and at any cost, including lives, foreign or domestic.

In this light, I can't help but remember now how cheap Graham considered the lives of so many others throughout his entire political career.

In the early years of the U.S.–Iraq war, Graham was less distinguishable from other Republicans, almost all of whom considered unquestioning support for the war their core party identity.

But by 2008, the country had significantly soured on the war (by then, 63 percent of Americans were calling it a mistake), the Democrats had a rock star presidential candidate in then-Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, whose primary campaign message included a resounding rejection of Bush-Cheney and particularly the Iraq boondoggle.

Property tax revenue collected by state and local governments rose for the ninth consecutive quarter according to the Census Bureau's quarterly summary of state and local tax revenue. Total tax revenue for state and local governments increased 2.1% over the quarter, with individual income tax revenue up 1.4%, sales tax revenue up 2.5%, and corporate income tax revenue up 8.3%. Property tax revenue rose the least amount over the quarter, up 1.0%. For 2025, state and local tax collections totaled $2.2 trillion, with property taxes accounting for $826.8 billion (37.5%).

Property tax revenue collected was $210.7 billion in the fourth quarter, an increase from a revised $208.5 billion estimate in the third quarter. These collections were 4.8% from one year ago. The share of property tax revenue as a share of total revenue was 37.3% in the fourth quarter. This share has been relatively stagnant at 37% over the past three years.

Property taxes typically make up the largest share of the total tax revenue for state and local governments, with most property tax collected by local governments. The second highest revenue generator was sales tax at 27.6%, totaling $155.7 billion, followed closely by individual income tax at 27.0% ($152.5 billion). Corporate income tax rounded out the remaining 8.4% at $45.8 billion.

The federal government made at least $186 billion of improper payments in Fiscal Year (FY) 2025, according to new Government Accountability Office (GAO) estimates, with over half made through health care programs. Estimated improper payments rose 15% ($24 billion) from FY 2024 and have totaled around $3 trillion since 2003.1 Policymakers should work to reduce these improper payments as part of a strategy to improve government efficiency, lower deficits, and reduce government waste, fraud, abuse, and errors.

Improper payments are payments that should not have been made, were made in incorrect amounts, or failed to comply with recording or other applicable requirements. Improper payments may be the result of fraud, insufficient documentation, or error on the part of the government or the recipient. GAO’s improper payment estimates focus on 64 programs from 15 agencies, encompassing roughly three-quarters – $4.5 trillion – of total non-interest spending.2 The estimates are compiled from agency-reported data on PaymentAccuracy.gov as well as agency financial reports, and improper payment rates are calculated by dividing estimated improper payments by total program outlays.

Roughly four-fifths of all improper payments in FY 2025 – about $153 billion – were overpayments. The remainder consisted of underpayments ($10 billion), unknown payments ($14 billion), and technically improper payments ($8 billion), where the recipient received the correct amount but the process failed to comply with statutory or regulatory requirements.

More than half of the total amount of improper payments comes from health care programs, including $57 billion (31%) from Medicare and $37 billion (20%) from Medicaid. Another 15% comes from refundable tax credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit ($21 billion), the refundable portion of the Child Tax Credit ($5 billion), and the American Opportunity Tax Credit ($2 billion). And despite six years having passed since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, at least 5% of improper payments were related to COVID relief programs, most notably $10 billion from the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant Program, which supported live venues, theaters, and cultural institutions.

U.S. Fraud Exceeds Property Tax Revenue

There are three ways to deal with a tax bill in America, and only one of them is available to the person reading this. You can pay it in full, which is what a homeowner does, on time, every year, backed by a lien that can take the house. You can get it forgiven, which is what a large corporation does when a county or a development agency abates its property tax to lure a plant or a warehouse or a data center. Or you can simply take the money and vanish into the enormous, tolerated hum of American fraud, which drains the system from every direction at once and is pursued, when it is pursued at all, with a fraction of the vigor aimed at the family that misses a payment.

This report sets the homeowner's bill against the other two. In 2025 state and local governments collected $826.8 billion in property tax, almost all of it local, most of it funding schools. Against that single, lien enforced number stand two others that rarely appear on any ballot: the property tax quietly forgiven to corporations, and the staggering sum lost every year to fraud in every sector of the economy, including inside the state and local governments that send out the bills. Count them honestly, discount them in daylight, and the documented fraud plus the corporate giveaways already match the entire property tax levy, dollar for dollar, before the single largest category of fraud is counted at all. Count that too, and the total runs close to three times what the homeowner pays.

odd Blanche is "the right man for the right time," a letter from 77 former Department of Justice officials declares in urging the Senate Judiciary Committee to support President Donald Trump's pick to serve as the 88th U.S. Attorney General.

The former high-ranking DOJ officials — spanning multiple administrations — sent the letter Sunday to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Ranking Member Sen. Dick Durban, D-Ill., in advance of Blanche’s confirmation hearing, beginning Wednesday morning.

Blanche has served as acting U.S. attorney general since early April, following Attorney General Pam Bondi's abrupt departure.

"His exemplary record as Deputy Attorney General — and now as Acting Attorney General — demonstrates he is the right man for the right time," states the letter signed by dozens of former DOJ deputies, assistant AGs, U.S. attorneys, and others. The group includes Gary Barnett, former acting chief of staff and senior counselor to the attorney general; Ketan Bhirud, former associate deputy attorney general; Rachel Bissex, former deputy chief of staff and counselor to the attorney general; and Jonathan D. Brightbill, former acting assistant attorney general.

The recommendation notes Blanche's rise up the ranks, beginning with his service with the DOJ as a paralegal in the Criminal Division and at the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. He did so while going to law school at night and supporting his young family, the letter states. He went on to become an assistant U.S. attorney in the SDNY's violent-crimes division, "where he prosecuted serious offenses for eight years," ultimately serving as co-chief of the unit. He “supervised dozens of prosecutors handling murder, kidnapping, and other violent crimes."

"This hands-on experience as both a line prosecutor and supervisor gives him an unparalleled understanding of how the Department actually operates — from the streets to headquarters," the letter asserts.

'Clarity and Resolve'

A Trump loyalist, Blanche successfully served as the president's legal counsel during the left's relentless lawfare campaigns against Trump and his allies — political witch hunts stopping at nothing to stop the businessman's return to the White House. Blanche began Trump's second term as the DOJ's deputy attorney general.

As the letter notes, in his role as acting AG, Blanche has overseen the day-to-day operations of a department with more than 100,000 employees in the main DOJ office, the FBI, the DEA, U.S. Marshals, ATF, and 93 U.S. Attorneys' Offices.

"Under his leadership, the Department has advanced President Trump's core priorities with clarity and resolve: confronting illegal immigration and dismantling the transnational criminal organizations that exploit our borders; combating the fentanyl crisis and violent crime that devastate American communities; and protecting taxpayers through aggressive fraud enforcement," the letter states.

Blanche "launched the National Fraud Enforcement Division, which has already driven the recovery of billions of dollars stolen from programs like Medicare and COVID relief, while prioritizing the prosecution of those who prey on American taxpayers," the support letter states.

John Solomon: I'm going to give a codename. I know the FBI likes codenames, so I'm going to make one up today. I think the President of the United States in the next couple of weeks will announce an operation I would call the codename "Hypersonic Clarity".

We're going to get a level of transparency and a release and declassification of documents unparalleled in American history. The President is setting up something that I think will be unbelievable. There will be a speed-of-lightning, a speed-of-sound to release of documents.

And those documents will help this prosecutorial team in Miami that's doing this hard work to not have to do secret proceedings and secret classified proceedings, because the documents will be unclassified. The public will have transparency.

The prosecutors will have – that will make it easier, I think, for the prosecutors to find the bad guys and sort the good guys from the bad guys without having to have months and years of secret proceedings, what are called the "Secrecy Act Hearings", which slow everything down. They're going to un-gum the trail and things are going to move quickly.

I do think there will be some accountability. There will never be enough for what we went through the last 12 years. We were deprived of a fair election because of this meddling and these PSYOP operations. We've been kept from information about vulnerabilities in our election system, which I'm going to say, I have some good stories on that next week.

But transparency can speed the prosecutorial accountability project. It's something that the Deep State did well to keep Bill Barr from achieving before 2020. I don't think this Justice Department is going to fall for that.

I think there will be a speed of disclosure and a speed of prosecution that we didn't see in past years.

The Grand Conspiracy case will be the ultimate thing. Can they make that? To get a Grand Conspiracy, Benny, you're going to have to do what prosecutors do when they take down a mob boss, right? Remember they had to flip Sammy the Bull to get the Gambino family.

They're going to have to take a capo in this intelligence/law enforcement machinery and flip them. And if you get one big name person and you flip them, maybe a Deputy FBI Director, a senior FBI official, a senior Intelligence Council official, and you say, "Hey, we'll make a deal with the Devil, because you’re going to testify up and down," I think they'd make that conspiracy case in a powerful way.

And this begins to change very quickly. So keep an eye. Those are the things I'm watching for as a reporter in the next few weeks.

Lockheed Martin Wins $850 Million U.S. Navy Contract for Trident II D5 Life Extension 2 Program

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Lockheed Martin has received an $850 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to continue the design and development of the Trident II D5 Life Extension 2 (D5LE2) program. The award, which was originally announced by the U.S. Department of War in April 2026, supports the long-term modernization of one of the United States' most important strategic missile systems.

The Trident II D5 is a three-stage, solid-fueled submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) that serves as the sea-based leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. According to Lockheed Martin, this component accounts for approximately 70 percent of the United States' deployed strategic deterrent capability, alongside land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and nuclear-capable bombers.

Originally developed in the 1980s, the Trident II D5 is designed for long-range strategic missions. The missile has an operational range of approximately 2,500 to 11,500 kilometers and can carry up to eight multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs). It has remained in service for decades due to its accuracy, reliability, and operational performance.

The missile previously underwent a major life extension program that was completed in 2017. The new D5LE2 effort focuses on replacing aging components, incorporating updated technologies, and ensuring the system remains operational and effective into the 2040s and beyond.

The Trident II D5 is deployed aboard the U.S. Navy's Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines and the United Kingdom's Vanguard-class submarines. Because these submarines operate while concealed at sea, the sea-based deterrent provides high survivability, continuous global presence, and operational flexibility.

The system's reliability has continued to be demonstrated through regular testing. Most recently, the Trident II D5 completed its 197th successful test launch during a flight conducted off the coast of Florida.

Commenting on the contract award, Eric Scherff, Vice President of Lockheed Martin's Fleet Ballistic Missile Program, said the company remains committed to supporting the mission as the program enters its next phase.

"Lockheed Martin is fully committed to the mission as we move forward into this next phase. This award marks another important step along the way as we continue delivering a credible and resilient deterrent for the American forces and allies."

The D5LE2 program is also intended to ensure the missile system remains compatible with the U.S. Navy's future Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines, which are being developed to replace the current Ohio-class fleet over the coming decades.

UPDATE: The Lindsey Graham Timeline Does Not Work… He Died in Kyiv

Let's follow the timeline. According to the official story: 911 call from his DC residence at 8:30pm ET on July 11 for suspected cardiac arrest. He "died at home."

This is total bullshit!

So let's go thru the timeline. Lindsey departed Dulles International Airport at around 0700 local on July 9 — the flight from Dulles to Warsaw is 9 hours. He took the overnight train that departed Warsaw at 18:15 hours local on July 9th and arrived in Kyiv between 09:45–10:45 local on July 10th.

So Lindsey Graham arrives in Kyiv by 11 am Friday morning. He meets with Zelensky and tours a drone factory. Then we are asked to believe that he returns to Washington, DC after spending less than 24 hours on the ground. Again, I call bullshit!!

The earliest train back to Warsaw departs Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi at 07:40–08:00 on the 11th and arrives Przemyśl Główny in the afternoon (~17:00–18:00). That is at least nine hours. That would make it roughly 1100 hours in Washington, DC. Let’s assume he has an hour to get to the airport and the plane takes off at 1900 hours local from Poland, which is 1200 hours in Washington. The flight going west takes 10 hours… This means the earliest the plane could have landed at Dulles is 2200 hours on the 11th. That is 2 ½ hours after Graham reportedly died at home.

I emphasize that the normal travel to Kyiv by members of Congress, members of NATO and the EU, and even Joe Biden is to take a plane to Poland and then hop a train to Kyiv. It is, normally, at least a 20 hour trip. In order for Senator Graham to have arrived at home by 2000 hours local in Washington, DC, he would have had to depart from Kyiv at 0700 hours local Ukraine. I have been unable to find any schedule that shows a train departing Kyiv at that hour.

Apple sued OpenAI on Friday for allegedly stealing its trade secrets, an extraordinary move that pits the $4.6 trillion iPhone maker against the fast-growing AI startup as it prepares to release a new class of hardware products that have been shaped in large part by Apple's former design boss.

In the lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of California court, Apple accused two former employees now working at OpenAI of systematically stealing confidential data, including information about unreleased hardware products, technical specifications, and details about vendors and contractors in Apple's supply chain. The complaint also listed OpenAI as a defendant, as well as io Products, a hardware design firm acquired by OpenAI last year that was co-founded by Apple's former design boss, Jony Ive.

"At every level, from members of its Technical Staff to its Chief Hardware Officer, and in coordination with business partners, OpenAI has been stealing Apple’s trade secrets and confidential information," Apple said in the 41-page complaint. "OpenAI's nascent hardware business now rests on the shakiest of foundations, rotten to its core by its illegal reliance on misappropriated trade secrets."

OpenAI told Fortune in a statement that "we have no interest in other companies' trade secrets. We remain focused on building innovative technology that empowers people everywhere."

The lawsuit marks a dramatic escalation between two companies that were once working together to bring OpenAI’s ChatGPT into Apple’s software platforms and Apple's Siri digital assistant. The partnership between Apple and OpenAI faded over time, and in January Apple announced that it was turning to Google for its Apple Intelligence efforts.

An Apple spokeswoman added in a statement that the company's teams "are constantly developing breakthrough technologies to create the best products and services in the world, and protecting their work and intellectual property is something we take very seriously."

The proposed under-16 social media ban is being sold as child protection. That is the attractive part of the policy. Most parents know smartphones and social media can be harmful, addictive and corrosive for young people. But the political danger is that a policy aimed at children may become a system of online control for everyone.

The Post initially reported that the government was considering a VPN ban or restrictions as part of the policy work. National's Education Minister Erica Stanford has since said she is not pursuing VPN restrictions, after ACT made clear it would block any such move.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. It encrypts a user's internet connection and can make their device appear to be accessing the internet from another location.

ACT leader David Seymour took to X to say that "the government" is not pursuing such a thing. He said National MPs had been keen on a VPN ban at select committee, while Stanford has been developing proposals to ban under-16s from social media.

But the question remains how the government plans to enforce an under-16 social media ban without pushing adults toward online age checks, identity verification or other forms of digital access control.

While the government may not have adopted a VPN ban, the episode shows how quickly a child-safety policy can raise wider questions about privacy, enforcement and state control of the internet.

The Prime Minister previously announced that social media restrictions for under-16s would become part of the government’s work programme, with Stanford assigned to lead the work and bring options to Cabinet.

Parliament’s Education and Workforce Committee has also recommended age restrictions for social media platforms and further work on restricting social media access for under-16s.

Seymour Is Right About The Privacy Risk

Seymour's broader warning is that any ban strong enough to stop determined teenagers will almost certainly require intrusive checks on adults.

If a social media company must prove a user is over 16, then every user may eventually have to prove their age. That is where a child-safety policy begins to drift toward digital ID.

According to Seymour, "there's no point calling out China’s missiles if we’re going to copy their policies anyway."

InternetNZ has also warned against VPN regulation, saying, "We do not support VPN regulation and share many of the concerns raised by the ACT and Green Parties in their alternative reports."

InternetNZ argues that people use VPNs for valid reasons, including security and protection from surveillance. It has described VPN technology as standard practice for good cybersecurity, used by businesses, government and others.

That is why VPN restrictions are such a red flag. They are privacy and security tools used by workers, businesses, journalists and ordinary citizens who do not want every online action exposed to platforms, advertisers, or network providers.

Big Tech Already Gives Parents Tools

The deeper problem with Stanford’s approach is that it treats family discipline as a problem for the state to solve, even though most parents already have the power to restrict social media use at the device level.

Apple’s Screen Time allows parents to set age-related restrictions for content, purchases, downloads, privacy settings, inappropriate web content and app access. Parents can also prevent children from installing or deleting apps or making App Store purchases.

Google's Family Link lets parents block apps, set individual app time limits, require approval for new apps, block inappropriate sites and manage settings across Chrome, Google Play, YouTube and Search.

Samsung directs Galaxy users to parental controls and Google Family Link, which include the ability to block apps, lock devices, restrict content and set screen-time limits.

FOX Business reported that the average monthly payment for a new vehicle reached a record $770 during the first quarter of 2026, according to LendingTree’s analysis of Experian data. Lease payments climbed to $619 per month, while used vehicle payments reached $531. The average amount financed for a new vehicle rose to $43,925, and outstanding auto loan debt surged to a record $1.685 trillion, exceeding the nation’s total student loan debt for the first time. This is not merely an automobile story. It is another warning that the purchasing power of the average American continues to deteriorate.

The average family is financing nearly $44,000 just to buy a depreciating asset because wages have failed to keep pace with the real cost of living. Government tells us inflation is under control, yet Americans are borrowing more money than ever simply to drive to work. If inflation were truly only 2%, car payments would not have doubled over the past generation while household budgets continue to buckle under the weight of necessities.

The debt statistics are becoming alarming. Auto loan balances have risen from $1.071 trillion in 2016 to $1.685 trillion today, an increase of more than 57% in just ten years. Auto debt now represents roughly 9% of all consumer debt, narrowly surpassing student loans. Americans originated another $182.1 billion in auto loans during the first quarter alone. We are borrowing at record levels to finance assets that lose value the moment they leave the dealership.

Borrowers with credit scores between 601 and 660 actually carried the highest average monthly payment at $811, while even subprime borrowers averaged $792. The system is trapping the middle class in perpetual debt. The better your credit, the lower your payment. Those already struggling financially are paying the greatest monthly burden, making it even harder to escape.

Edmunds found that the average financed amount for new vehicles reached another record of nearly $44,000, while average monthly payments climbed to approximately $773. One out of every five financed new vehicles now carries a monthly payment of at least $1,000. Buyers are responding the only way they can. Down payments are shrinking while loan terms continue stretching to seven and even eight years. Nearly one-quarter of new-car buyers are now taking loans lasting 84 months or longer. It is financing transportation like a mortgage.

Negative equity is becoming another hidden crisis. Edmunds reported that nearly 31% of trade-ins involved owners who owed more than their vehicles were worth, with the average underwater balance exceeding $7,100. Consumers are rolling debt from one vehicle into the next. They are not buying newer cars because they are wealthier. They are borrowing more because they have no alternative.

This is precisely what happens during the late stages of a debt cycle. Governments celebrate rising consumer spending while ignoring that it is financed with ever-larger amounts of borrowed money. The economy appears healthy because credit continues expanding, not because the average citizen has become more prosperous. Eventually there comes a point where consumers simply cannot borrow any more. That is when demand collapses, defaults accelerate, and politicians inevitably look for someone else to blame.

Sikorsky foots bill for White House helipad

Sikorsky, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, will pay about $5 million for a granite helipad now under construction on the White House South Lawn.

As Trump told reporters Monday, Sikorsky will pay for the helipad because its helicopters, which he uses for brief trips, have ripped up and burned grass around the White House. The president hopes to have the helipad ready for an upcoming visit from Chinese President Xi Jinping in September.

The agency didn't need to prove drug trafficking. It didn't need to prove money laundering. It didn't even need a conviction. All it needed was a pattern of cash deposits that looked, on paper, like someone trying to stay under a $10,000 reporting threshold. That was enough to trigger a seizure, and once the money was gone, the burden fell on the citizen to prove their own innocence to get it back.

This is the story of "structuring" enforcement, one of the most quietly aggressive tools the federal government has ever pointed at ordinary Americans, and how it took a coalition of libertarian lawyers, a bipartisan group of lawmakers, a federal inspector general, and a New York Times investigation to force the IRS to admit what it had been doing.

The Law Behind the Weapon

The mechanism starts with the Bank Secrecy Act of 1970, which requires banks to report any cash transaction over $10,000 to the federal government. That reporting requirement exists for a legitimate reason: to make large-scale money laundering harder to hide. But Congress also criminalized the act of deliberately breaking transactions into smaller pieces specifically to dodge that report, a crime known as "structuring," codified at 31 U.S.C. § 5324. Critically, the statute does not require prosecutors to show the underlying money came from anywhere illegal. Depositing $9,500 repeatedly instead of one $10,500 deposit is, on its face, a federal violation, even if every dollar was earned legally.

That distinction, between how the money was earned and how it was deposited, is what the IRS's Criminal Investigation division exploited for years. Under civil forfeiture law, the government can seize property in a proceeding filed against the property itself, not its owner. No criminal charge is required. No conviction is required. The property owner has to fight in court, often for months or years, just to get their own money back.

The Numbers Behind the Program

The Institute for Justice, a public-interest law firm that became the leading watchdog on this issue, documented that between 2005 and 2012 the IRS seized more than $242 million across over 2,500 cases tied to alleged structuring violations. Roughly a third of those cases involved nothing more than a pattern of routine, sub-$10,000 transactions, with no other evidence of criminal activity of any kind.

The people on the receiving end were not cartel bosses. They were jewelry store owners, restaurant operators, gas station proprietors, scrap metal dealers, and farmers, the exact kind of cash-heavy small businesses that structure their banking activity for entirely mundane reasons, sometimes on the advice of their own banks, which encouraged them to keep deposits under $10,000 simply to avoid the paperwork burden of the reporting requirement itself.

The Inspector General Confirms It

In April 2017, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, the government's own internal watchdog, released a report that should have ended the program on its face. TIGTA examined a sample of 278 structuring investigations. In 91 percent of the cases where the source of funds could be determined, the money had come from an entirely legal source. IRS procedures state plainly that the purpose of the civil forfeiture program is to disrupt and dismantle criminal enterprises. The Inspector General's own data showed the opposite was happening: the agency was overwhelmingly targeting people who had committed no underlying crime at all.

The report went further. In 54 cases, property owners offered the IRS reasonable explanations for why their transactions fell under $10,000, and investigators frequently didn't bother to look into those explanations before moving to seize the funds. TIGTA also flagged a practice in which the government appeared to use the threat of criminal prosecution as leverage to pressure people into settling civil forfeiture cases, a tactic the Inspector General called potentially improper. And the report noted a motive behind the pattern: the Department of Justice had encouraged task forces to pursue "quick hits," structuring cases that could be resolved fast, rather than the far more labor-intensive work of building real money laundering or drug trafficking cases.

The Human Cost

Behind the statistics were people who lost their livelihoods waiting for the government to decide whether it would give their money back.

Andrew Clyde, a Navy veteran and owner of a gun store in Georgia, had nearly $950,000 seized from his business account in 2013. He was never charged with a crime. To get any of it back, he had to fight through federal court, ultimately forfeiting $50,000 to the IRS anyway and spending more than $100,000 in legal fees in the process, a settlement forced on him not because prosecutors proved wrongdoing, but because litigating the full amount would have cost him more than what remained.

Jeff Hirsch, who ran a Long Island convenience store distribution business with his brothers, and Randy Sowers, a Maryland dairy farmer, became the named plaintiffs in litigation and legislation that followed. Their cases, like Clyde's, involved no criminal charges and no proof of illicit funds, only a banking pattern the IRS treated as sufficient grounds to take their money and force them to prove a negative.

The Institute for Justice's broader analysis found the average IRS structuring-related forfeiture took nearly a year to resolve. In some cases, the government seized funds it later couldn't justify keeping. When Congress reviewed a batch of 454 petitions for returned property in 2016, the IRS itself recommended returning money in roughly 80 percent of cases. The Justice Department, which had final say over judicial forfeitures, approved returns in only 32 percent of those cases, a gap that suggests even the agency doing the seizing recognized how weak many of the underlying cases were.

Forced Into Reform

The program did not change because the IRS decided on its own that it had gone too far. It changed because it got caught.

A 2014 investigation and a front-page New York Times story, combined with lawsuits from the Institute for Justice, exposed the pattern publicly for the first time. Facing that pressure, the IRS announced in October 2014 that its Criminal Investigation division would no longer pursue forfeiture based solely on "legal source" structuring, meaning cases where the money itself wasn't tied to any other crime. The effect was immediate and dramatic: the value of assets seized for structuring collapsed from $31.8 million in 2014 to $6.2 million in 2015.

But a policy is not a law. It can be reversed by the next IRS commissioner or the next administration with a memo, and reform advocates knew it. That's why, in 2019, Congress passed the Clyde-Hirsch-Sowers RESPECT Act as part of the broader Taxpayer First Act, named for the very people whose cases had exposed the practice. Signed into law by President Trump, it did two things the policy change alone could not: it wrote into statute that the IRS can only pursue structuring forfeitures when the funds are tied to an illegal source or used to conceal other criminal activity, and it guaranteed property owners the right to a prompt court hearing, within 30 days of a request, rather than the months-long limbo they had faced before.

The results, based on the Institute for Justice's later analysis of internal IRS data, were stark. Structuring seizures fell from more than a quarter of all IRS forfeitures at their 2012 peak to roughly half a percent by 2019.

What the IRS Tried to Keep Hidden

Even after the legal reforms, the full record of what the agency had done remained largely invisible to the public. The IRS maintains an internal database called the Asset Forfeiture Tracking and Retrieval System, its own comprehensive log of forfeiture activity. Unlike the Justice Department's equivalent system, it was never made public. In 2015, the Institute for Justice filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the database. The IRS fought the disclosure for seven years, only turning it over in 2022 after IJ sued and won before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

That data, once finally extracted, allowed for the first truly comprehensive outside analysis of a decade of IRS forfeitures. It confirmed the broader pattern: the agency's forfeiture activity skewed heavily toward white-collar allegations rather than drug crimes, with over 70 percent of forfeited property tied to alleged money laundering and another 16 percent tied to structuring. It also showed the IRS seizing far more real estate, homes included, than is typical for other federal agencies, and that nearly half the forfeiture actions were civil rather than criminal, meaning no conviction, and in many cases no charge, was ever required to permanently take someone's property.

The Unfinished Reckoning

The reforms of 2014 and 2019 were real, and they worked, in the narrowest sense: the raw number of structuring seizures cratered. But the reforms only closed the specific loophole that became a public scandal. Civil forfeiture itself, the underlying legal mechanism that let this happen for over a decade with almost no judicial check, remains fully intact and is used by the IRS and dozens of other federal, state, and local agencies today. The Institute for Justice has continued pushing for broader reform, including ending the "equitable sharing" arrangements that let agencies profit directly from what they seize, changes that have gone nowhere in Congress despite both parties formally condemning civil forfeiture in their 2016 platforms.

What the structuring scandal ultimately reveals isn't a single rogue policy, but a structural incentive: a law enforcement agency empowered to seize first and let citizens litigate for their property afterward will, predictably, gravitate toward the easiest targets rather than the intended ones. It took a lawsuit, a public records fight that lasted seven years, an inspector general audit, and an act of Congress just to rein in one narrow slice of that power. The broader apparatus that made it possible is still standing.
