What if tomorrow, I will no longer stare at those eyes with the hopes that you will bother to listen to me? I should stop acting like you owe me something in return. Because you deserve better than me. You are allowed to ignore me and do the things that you’re supposed to do.

Maybe, tomorrow might be the day of running away from the pain of holding on to something that wasn’t yours. Maybe, tomorrow is about giving up to something that stops you from smiling and being happy because you aren’t being cared in return.

So, ready to read my blog. Let me tell you this blog is something which is completely different from the blogs which I had earlier written.

2nd Year MBA-A Road Which Will End But In Which Direction,God Knows..!!

Have you heard the wannabe MBAs talk once they have grabbed a couple of B-school calls ? Now, imagine the gyan that a half-MBA-graduate can give! Presenting a full year of experience of half a MBA..

Life is full of U-turns, right turns and left turns. Some turns lead you to 'no man's' land, while some land you in greener pastures. I do not know which turn I took, but I did reach

The Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India(ICFAI) Hyderabad for sure. Now, after a year of being there, when I introspect, I find myself in a place which has taught me a lot of values and touched me with various experiences. In MBA parlance we call it 'value addition'. MBAs (the colloquial word for an MBA graduate or even half a graduate) generally do a feasibility analysis of any experience that they get an opportunity to be a part of. And then comes the 'value analysis', i.e. the amount of 'value addition' that they underwent being a part of the experience.

An MBAs domain is very well restricted to the set of souls pursuing the same management science as himself. viz, finance, marketing, hr, operations etc.. The emphasis here is not much on personality enhancement, but highly towards the factors that will add up towards getting a better job in the placement season; even if the added 'value' is much against their likings and interests. Let me try to analyse how much I have climbed up the value chain during this one lightning year.

When I think of the initial days of my settling down in the campus, a vignette of chaos and peace emerges. Having taken up a lethargic lifestyle the moment I landed up here, I kept on postponing things and they kept on getting piled up. Not long after, say in about a month, sleep suddenly became a rarity. I had heard of 'sleep' being a prized possession in b-schools here I was, experiencing it first hand. And if all things I heard about managers are to be believed, well, sleep has become a rarity for a lifetime.

Life slowly got accustomed to the B-school way of living. Classes from 9:15(earlier it was 9:30 though) in the morning meant waking up at 8.55 and reach the hostel mess at 9:10 (after attending nature's calls). By 9:12 you would have eaten biscuits in case you got up more late and would be trotting fast towards Academic Block, hoping that the Prof. hadn't yet taken the attendance. If lucky, at 9:14:55 you would reach the door of your classroom after passing through the pathway and meeting with so many people who are also in a hurry .Now when you reach your eyes will sweep to find an empty seat in the last row. To start with, doing an MBA teaches you acute time management.

People come to b-schools with dreams of becoming CEOs and CFOs, nothing less. Rarely anyone thinks about becoming CTOs and CIOs. Finance is the domain 75% of any b-school class wants to specialize in. After the first Fin paper, fin-enthusiasts are decimated down to 50% and by the final placement season the figure becomes 25-30%. Thus, on an average, the dreams and aspirations of nearly 50% of any class would be trampled by the Fin subjects in the course of 2 years. I wonder why anyone would love a killer so much! My Fin grades started on a good note in the 1st sem. And thereafter followed a negative arithmetic progression to '6' by the 2nd Sem; thus eliminating any resurgent hopes of selecting a couple of Fin electives in the 2nd year.Though with Marketing domain I have Banking as an alternative..!!

I was talking about value addition. Elaborating on it, there are endless things to do and experience in this campus. There were visits by CAs and CXO Level Employees of top notch companies which we all flocked to catch up a few wise words. Needless to say, we had many corporate dignitaries coming into the classrooms and delivering talks and sharing their insights with us. These were the moments when, although momentarily, I thought of being in their shoes someday soon.

People have started to enroll themselves for Salsa classes and the girls have started enrolling for the Karate Classes . And yes, Swimming and The Art of Living(Yes+) are also great ad-ons available at our campus.

Holidays are the most awaited season in any B-School,we have very less though but going to Goa for a weekend is a facility which many have already availed .

The Placement season, the most awaited moment of a post graduate- the process takes 8months to complete, though placing 1000 students in that span of time is just incredible at my college, placement department is really hardworking. People try to experiment during the initial month of placement as I saw in seniors. Most IT guys look towards Fin or Marketing companies. . My biggest realization in the 1st semester, that Fin was not my cup of tea, made my life easier.CA, CFA,CS were the hot cakes of the season and the concept of 'Fin-Gods' found wholesome acceptance with the 'Gods' being given their due share of respect and importance. Soon people were knighted with titles of 'Mark-God', 'IT-God' and 'All-God'. Eventually, even 'Veg-Gods' and 'Non-Veg-Gods' found their place.

Exams were the days when one used to get enough time to think about the issues that one had postponed till time was abundant. After 2 months of pain and exhaustion, exams days were the time to lay back and rest. Episodes of 'How I met your Mother' and 'Prison Break' played back to back to get relieved of the ever-building pressure, thanks to the Stuz and Techvibs team. Good enjoyable and popular movies also added the spice, thanks to the team Infinity, they are the real entertainers of IBS.

Thus, having spent a year in MBA, I can safely say that, “Yes, life in a B-school, sucks big time and rocks big time.” Lead others to a state of high entropy and then use our analytically strong brains to align broken pieces up to form a coherent view of things - this is what you learn in MBA. The one year in MBA has given me many good friends, who I know will stand by me in times to come, more appropriately in times of group assignments. The sweet memories, the bond of friendship and the hiccups of the tension-prone exam weeks - the treasures I would carry on to the final year. I know, for sure, it is going to be a roller-coaster journey from now on.

Life @IBS..A Journey To Remember

Well,Its been long since I updated my blog, and got a Sunday today so let me share some of the MBA stuff which I came across here..

So the Journey Begins Here:
Life @ IBS starts with an ‘aha’ followed by lots of ‘phew’ and ends with a ‘wow!’ What changes the fastest in a B-school is your perception about it and life in there.

A (good) B-school selects students based on how they perform in CAT (I mean the concerned entrance test,IBSAT) and their academic scores and then expects from these ‘grade-ke-liye-kuch-bhi-karega’ geeks to become indifferent about grades and do some other stuffs, and to hell these bookworms learn to do so from the word go.

Life @ IBS is a basket of ‘paradoxes’, ‘oops’, ‘damn it’, ‘gotcha’, ‘OMG’ and their sibling stuffs. One puts in one’s best foot forward in a B-school with dreams like studying a lot, becoming a topper, reading lots of books, participating in B-schools fests, along with enjoying the last two years of academic life with good bunch of friends, with intelligent girls (of course I’m talking about boys in here) and finally securing a good job in an MNC with a short, followed by a medium and long term, plans (well I don’t know, which is an apt word for this goal/target/plan/mission, these MBA jerks confuse people with closely related words). Sooner than later (s)he realises that the SWOT analysis (s)he did for the GD/PI process was a kinder Garden exercise and so that was way different from the naked truth.

Life @ IBS is lot more than what meets to eye. If it’s not a cakewalk then it’s not a yoke around one’s neck too. It’s about burning midnight oil and doing (no)thing, it’s about brainstorming and taking no conclusion back home, it’s accepting everything and sustaining nothing, it’s saying ‘my friend I agree to what you said’, when you hate the person and abhor the idea, it’s about inclusive learning, it’s a journey with sweetest friends with great mettle, with differentiating capability, it’s learning from wizards, it’s meeting corporate honchos, it’s getting to know THE REAL life, it’s a place where dreams are transformed into the reality, It’s an arena where you learn as how to take the bull by the horns, it’s life @ a B-school, a.k.a ICFAI HYDERABAD.

Summer Internship Program(SIP)-3 Things To Do Before You Split

Dear Summer ‘13 Intern,
The summer of 2013 is already winding down, as is your summer internship. You may have done a lot this summer - or maybe not much at all - (hopefully the former, but I realize that can be outside of your control!)

Regardless, we’re at the home stretch. And there are 3 key things I’d recommend you do before you call it a summer, split town, and get ready for the school year to start. These action items, if done right, will hopefully increase the chances of you landing the job you want after MBA.

Sure, the economy stinks. But there is still plenty of opportunity out there for smart young people who are willing to go the extra mile.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is “advice is a giver’s gift.” So here is my advice to you - which I recommend you read with a skeptical eye, and adapt to your personal situation if appropriate.

1. Have a Heart-to-Heart With Your Boss

Most bosses will schedule an exit interview with you. If they don’t take the initiative, you should. And if your immediate boss is too busy, or lazy, or whatever, to be open and/or responsive to this, try his or her boss. Keep going up the ladder until someone cares enough to grant you some time.

Use this sit down session to gather as much feedback and insights as you can. Accept any criticisms or critiques with an open mind. I would not recommend contesting any points - just gather it all in.

You’ll never go wrong asking your boss for his or her advice. Remember, it truly is a “giver’s gift” - people love to be asked for advice, and they love even more to give it. Of course you don’t need to act on all the advice you receive - but you’re likely to gain some great insights. It may pertain to company politics, or how you should go about landing a full-time position, or why you should run and not pursue a career with that company!

You’ll be amazed at what people will share if you ask for their advice and insights. Also, they’ll love you for asking.

Finally if you have a good relationship with your boss, make sure to stay in touch with them when you get back to school. Just drop an occasional note to let them know how you’re doing.

2. Schedule as Many One-on-Ones (With Colleagues You Like) as You Can

While the exit interview with your boss is a given at most companies, a final sit down with other colleagues and managers is not. You should absolutely take the initiative to schedule one-on-one sit downs with as many folks as you can. Especially those that you like and respect.

By one-on-one, it could be a formal sit down meeting in their office. Or just grabbing a cup of coffee together. You know your company’s culture best, so feel free to adapt the approach accordingly.

I should note that while you are welcome to do request a one-on-one with anyone you’d like, this will probably work far better with people you genuinely like and respect. If the thought of sitting down with a specific manager makes your stomach queasy - don’t bother. Focus on strengthening your connections with those you already like.

And as we discussed in the last section - you should definitely drop your closest connections a line when you get back to school.

3. Learn the Next Steps in the Full-Time Hiring Process

This may be a question for your boss, or for anther manager, or for human resources. It’s especially important if you are going to be looking for full-time employment soon.

Find out what opportunities are available for full-time employment. As a summer intern, you’ve got the inside track. It’s very important to take advantage of this WHILE you are still on the job! Once you’re out of sight, I’m afraid it’s far too easy to fade “out of mind” of the folks who make the hiring decisions.

So before you leave, make sure you ask: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here at XYZ Corporation, and would love to pursue full-time job opportunities after I complete my MBA. Who is the best person to talk with about this?”

Ask this to everyone you can - it never hurts - and there are multiple ways to a full-time employment offer. Many students forget that a company actually consists of individual human beings that make the hiring decisions. So what you need to do is to go find the human being(s) involved in the hiring process. Then find out next steps - and of course, ask for their advice!

One of the stumbling blocks for MBA aspirants in Interviews is the question “tell me about your hobby”. While on the face of it, what seems to be a pretty simple and straight forward question actually becomes mostly monotonous and boring because of lack of thought of the candidate on this account. In India, typically (A/Q to a survey) 95% Males play/watch Cricket, 90% listen to Music and 85% like reading books as their hobby. That bland response “I like to watch cricket, listen to music and read books” either provokes the interviewer or actually bores him to death that he chooses to give it a pass.

On Most occasions this question figures in the end of an interview or at a part of the interview where the candidate has struggled for a large part of the interview. The interviewer has struggled to kick off an interesting or engaging argument, and just to make the candidate comfortable asks the question about his hobbies.

When asked this question, the interviewer expects something refreshing, wants to feel the exuberance in the candidate since he has asked a question which is supposed to be the candidates "Forte". But most of the candidates let this golden moment die because of their thoughtlessness. This indicates he never explored indulgences in life, a lack of taste and to say the very least lack of respect for hobbies.

What is a hobby?

Hobby is NOT A SKILL. It is an indulgence which you like to do. So, some people should just stop giving themselves excuses that since they don’t know how to dance or play flute how they can have an interesting hobby. One of my friends told in the interview “ My hobby is to watch news channels, I typically watch news channels 8 hours a day” . His interview went about 15 minutes on the anchors in various channels, the company owning those channels, and about it. He simply knew what he liked, spent his time on , and took care to research on it . Hobby is anything you like to do. While Cooking can be a hobby, Eating GOOD FOOD can also be a hobby.

Why is a hobby relevant?

“My hobby is to eat Pizza. Which Ever city I land in , I always make it a point to find authentic Pizza Places,it needn't be always Dominoes and I make sure that I have a meal at at least one of them” --- At least when end of the day , when the Panel starts discussing the candidates they remember you as “ Abhilekh—The Pizza guy” . You made an interesting mark among the rest.

Hobby is a question asked by the panel to know you as a person, explore your personality beyond your CV. Is the candidate an extrovert, an introvert? It also gives a sense of your time management, your ability to explore horizons. If you are struggling in your interview with your academic/technical questions and you are asked this question. It’s a brilliant opportunity to wipe that cold sweat, neaten your shirt creases, sit back, relax, smile and get Talking. It’s your forte, it’s about you, Only you can be right about yourself, no one else.

Typical answers

The Most typical answers are Watching/ Playing Cricket, listening to Music, and Reading books. Most likely the panel , who is obviously more mature and experienced that you runs a much bigger arsenal of all of the same. He might ask you the venue of 21st Century of Sachin Tendulkar. Its not that he expects you to know that answer, but may be that was one opportunity where he went to Mohali Stadium to Watch a cricket match and Tendulkar scored his 21st ton. He will just impress on you He knows better, if at all he hasn’t been bored to his skull listening that. Typically Reading books are also not that well received and you can be critically questioned on Brown’s Da vinci code , something which the interviewers hold up his sleeve. Most likely you are a sitting duck, at the mercy of the interviewer whether he decides to take on you or not.

If you haven’t spared enough time to develop a skill, then please spare sometime now to sit and analyze your time spend. There must be something somewhere which you really love to do. Explore the same. Read about it, know about it . Few answers said differently can make a mark – instead of saying Watching movies, you can say “War as a subject has always intrigued me. My best Movies are all war movies which I enjoy watching over and over again. While in childhood, it was the Heroics that used to consume my passion, as I am growing up, the story, the strategy, the ploy, how a small battles fits a bigger objective gains my attention. “If you can now Read up about world War I , II, and some historical wars and site the same in context of few movies at least when you walk out of that door, at the end of the day after seeing some many candidates, one of the panel members would be able to put a FACE to your name.

It just requires 2 concrete hours to explore yourself, explore your likings and then constructing a TASTE for yourself. You may find that actually whenever you have some free time, rather than sitting at home and sulking or watching TV , you always call up some friends and meet them. So, you can come across as a social person, who likes to meet up friends, exchange ideas, debate on topics. Its like when you met a girl ( or a girl met a boy) and you ask “ what you like to do ? “ . The purpose is to know more about a person and discover HOW MUCH FUN is HE/SHE? Same, give the interviewer an idea that you are a fun person to be with.

When I was a Kid I wanted to become a Traveler helping people then I wanted to become a Professor then a CS now a CEO ------ Our Dreams go on and on. Do we need only money in Life? Then, what is the use of having too much.

We know Sunil Mittal was selling Generator sets before 30 yrs, but suddenly he is the Best Entrepreneur of the Year, His Company is the Emerging Company of the Year. There is no limits for Dream. We can do any thing in our given span of life, but each of our action has a effect in our afterlife.

In what way Does Maths or English or MBA or PhD. going to matter in our Life. Do all MBA's become better than Ambani or Sunil Mittal?? The power of Dream takes us far and High!! I do dream a lot.

Lord Krishna said in Gita "A real winner is the one who enjoys most in life or who laughs for most time" our enjoyment should be in an ethical way. Its not money, fame, Power, success that we should aim at its happiness!! But we should not forget to achieve at least a little in life!!

BUSY LIFE..!!

Hands up if when someone asks you how you're doing you reply with,"Busy".

I bet every single hand is raised right now.

We wear "busy" as if it is a badge of honor. We talk about "busy" as though it's something to be proud of.

We let "busy" fill the void. We allow "busy" to get in the way of living.

Somewhere along the way, we start believing that if we're not busy, and I mean, VERY BUSY, that something is wrong.We feel guilt when we're not getting things done. We look at those around us who are doing big things and fall into state of mind that tells us we can't possibly keep up,but that if we just stay busy, if we keep hustling,we're doing something right.

Without thinking,we let busy get in the way of some of the best things in life.

When you're busy,you miss out on amazing opportunities. Because there's no time for creativity thought.

No time for trying new things. No time for taking chances and coming up with brilliant ideas. Busy clutters our mind from thinking clearly and objectively about what we really want and probably should be doing.

When you're busy,you can pretty much say so long to spontaneity. There's no wiggle room. There's barely room to breathe,much less room to really capture what the moments in front of us have to offer.

When you're busy, it wains your ability to form strong relationships,to sustain bonds. To celebrate. To build new connections. Whether it's our family,friends, or peers, when we're occupying all of our time with getting "stuff" done, we're not making room to let anyone in.

So here's to scheduling time to not be busy. To grabbing beers with friends.Going on a long drive.Playing NFS,CS,AGE OF EMPIRES,ROAD RASH,XBOX for a few hours without feeling guilty.

Cooking food.Writing,playing,learning,loving,living,etc.

And there's to taking my own advice to heart. Because a life constantly filled with "busy" isn't really being lived.

Stop looking for humor...I say
It’s everywhere night and day
Let me tell you what I have to say
Coz it was a HDDG* on her way

Getting out of the house was no easy way
Had to think 'what-shall-i-wear-today??'
Or crib that no one cares, anyway
Worrying about makeup which she does heavy ways
Always covering the skin with red, pink and various shades

Wearing a scarf preventing her from Uv rays
She was care full no one misses her glares
She wore a rainbow colored tee
Which came buy 2 get one free

She had to shop that’s why she came,
She always came when there was no rain,
Worrying that the makeup would go
She had lost all the enjoyment we do

Finally she steps inside the mall and says
“bhaiya alu kitne ke dozen diye”
It’s per kg smiling bhaiya says
Cribbing about what bhaiya says
She came back finally smiling all the way

Tell her someone that we love it the simple way
Not make up but a smile will make our day
We want a girl very simple we pray
Who wakes up the same every day?

When we realize this, too late it is.

We are already used,

The world is unfair, and we are like its puppets.

Before we realize this, the evil gets to us.

Dead we feel.

Lost we become.

Many try to put us down, and yes they do succeed.

Not because they have a mastermind,

But

Because of our loser hearts.

Cry we can, give up like we always do.

But why?

Try to come up,

What is there to lose?

Strong we are,

We just need to believe.

Puppets we are

But you can always cut the strings!

Dance to your own tunes,

Faith- Have in you.

Afraid- you mustn’t be.

And watch how you come up, if you have the right will.

But why dance to all of it?

Sometimes deep in my head runs several questions. 'Why is life so tough?' 

'Why does it gives so much pain?' 

'Why can't we be happy all the time?'

And, if God gave us this life to suffer, he/she would have chosen not to create us.

Life, still seems to me a puzzle. I tried it to compare with so many things but still found no resemblance to anything living or dead. It still seems something weird, something that hurts. I do think that my life is tough. But then I rewind my life a little and look at the things I have with me. I am studying at one of the premier institute of the country after clearing IBSAT. I have amazing friends who when find me sad, drag me to a multiplex for watching movies saying that they will pay for it. Haan, it's a different story that when you reach at the counter of the multiplex and wait for one to pay, the one replies back, "Pagal hai, tere baap ki shaadi hai kya jo paise mei donga? Jaldi de, AC mei chalenge." But still it feels great when you have people like that around you.

How can life be a pain then? I thought life to be complex. Then, it was today's evening when while walking down the road, I found something, something very similar to what life is! You know what it was? It was a samosa chat. Yeah, you read it correct, I wrote - a samosa chat! Sounds weird, na? Look, why did it feel to me a lot similar? Life you see has all the tastes. For few if it gives a pain, its sour. For others whom you believe are born rich and enjoy all the benefits can tell, life is sweet. For others, it's tough, similar to the hard pieces of the chat that you have pain to bite in. I believe that while God was making us in plenty, he forgot to mix all the spices well. If it's tough we curse God for that. But we don't wait for the moments when sweetness enters our life. You may be going through a tough phase. But wait dear friend, if it's tough for you right now, then may be you are a lucky chap, you still have a lot of sweetness left for you. So, don't worry. Enjoy your samosa chat. :)
