You can change the Icons Windows uses for folders, the Start Menu, opened and closed folder in the Explorer, and many more.
1. Open RegEdit
2. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ Shell Icons
3. Add a string value for each Icon you wish to change.

Disable Shutdown in Windows XP

To disable shutdown in XP first of all you have to
i.Remove shutdown from start menu and also from all other possible options.
ii.Hide shutdown from start menu
iii.Disable shutdown all together.

Follow the steps given below:
a)Start àRun and type gpedit.msc . gpedit stands for group policy and you can do wonders using this.
b)Navigate to:User configuration Administrative Templates Start Menu and Taskbar 3.This option opens up a pane on the right hand side.
c)Identify the option named remove SHUT DOWN from the start menu.
d)Double click remove SHUT DOWN from the start menu option.
e)A small screen pops up and you may like to read about the explanation in the
EXPLAIN TAB before you change the settings.
f)Just change the radio button TO ENABLED and click on apply.
g)DONE.
h)No need to log off or restart the system. (You may however have to find
a way to restart your system).
i)This option disables the log off option from the system.
j)From the start menu, also from the life saver – three buttons CTRL - ALT - DEL options.
k)This option goes well with the HIDING THE LOG OFF FROM START MENU. (To shut down your system:-without using from shut down menu) The solution is that you can switch user through task manager (alt+ctrl+del) or by pressing winkey+L where u get the option to turn off your computer/restart/stand by.
l)Or you may create a shortcut using this shortcut location to shutdown your system: %windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s to restart, u can use this shortcut %windir%\system32\shutdown.exe –r to shutdown your PC

With a small registry tweak, Windows XP can be set to automatically close any program that 'stops responding' (crashes), eliminating the need for you to use the task manager to close down the offending software manually.

Now follow the steps given below:
a) The text which is written in bold letters is to be deleted and replaced by a password of your choice.
b) Save that file by extension .bat (Choose the name of your choice.)
c) Now a bat file will appear on your screen.
d) Double click on that file.
e) You will see the locker folder.
f) Save the files in that folder.
g) Double click on that folder & lock that folder
h) After locking that folder it will become hidden.
i) To open that folder double click on that bat file
j) Type your password & open that folder.

LOOP HOLE

Nice batch program but wont do much.
it just sets the attributes "hidden" and "system" to the folder named "locker" that is renamed as "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}"
this folder can be viewed by going to my computer>tools>options>view (tab)
and unchecking "Hide Protected System Files" and checking "Show Hidden Files".
Then simply rename the folder "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}" back to locker or any other name and enter it (without the password too).

This is real cool tip for people who use notepad to write down any info on a day to day basis. By following the steps given below, you can use the notepad as a simple virtual diary also!!!

a)Open Notepad.
b)Type .LOG (CASE SENSITIVE) as the first line of the file.
c)Save with any name of your choice and close the file.
d)Now open this file. You will notice that Notepad appends the current date and time to the end of the file and places the cursor on the next line.
e)Type your notes and then save and close the file.
f)Each time you open the file, Notepad repeats the process i.e., appending the time and date to the end of the file and placing the cursor below it.

1) Start-> Run-> type gpedit.msc ( You will see Local Computer Policy).
2) Expand the Administrative Templates branch.
3) Expand the Network tab.
4) Highlight QoS Packet Scheduler.
5) click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth6 Check enabled7 Change Bandwidth limit % to 0 %click apply and then restart your pc.your internet will be 20% faster. and believe me you will feel it.

1. Hold down the Windows Key and press the Pause/Break button at the top right of your keyboard (another way is right-clicking your computer and clicking Properties).
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. Under Performance, click Settings.
4. Then click the Advanced tab on the button that pops up.
5. Under Virtual Memory at the bottom, click Change.
6. Click the Custom Size button.
7. For the initial size (depending on your HD space), type in anywhere from 1000-1500 (although i use 4000), and for the Maximum size type in anywhere from 2000-2500 (although i use 6000).
8. Click Set, and then exit out of all of the windows.
9. Finally, restart your computer.10. You now have a faster computer and 1-2gb of virtual RAM!
