Python programming for beginers

2012-01-04T16:27:00.002+05:30

I have seen hundreds of books on programming , no matter how fancy they look or how attractive it's cover is i should say they are all of the same blood. To become a good programmer involves years of practice, patience, passion and knowledge but how to launch from ground zero is the question? which language to choose? which book to refer? whom to consult? . To begin with we should start with something which is simple yet powerful enough that's why i choose python .Python is not a toy, although it’s very good for learning programming, it’s also used by thousands of professionals around the world every day. So once you learn Python, you don’t have to switch to a real language to make real programs. You can do a lot with Python.

I searched over the internet , searched many forums and communities , consulted my teachers about Python and where should i start learning from? I will give some useful links for beginning with

Python :-

1) Hello World!

Computer Programming for Kids and Other Beginners
by Warren D. Sande and Carter Sande

An ultimate book for kids and beginners to get into the world of programming via Python

http://www.manning.com/sande/

2 ) The Python Tutorial

First off work your way through the official Python tutuorial( http://docs.python.org/tutorial/index.html ), its very comprehensive and covers all the language features and also has a quick tour of the modules available in the standard library.

3 )The Python Challenge.

Now try the Python challenge, this will push your new Python skills and riddle solving abilites. If you get stuck the official forums are helpful, I found I got stuck on the riddles more than the programming.

How to run old dos games on linux mint and Ubuntu

2011-07-20T15:27:00.000+05:30

Install dosbox from http://www.dosbox.com/
Open dosbox or type dosbox in terminal window
Dos is required to be mounted on a drive letter such as C:\ but there is nothing such as drive letter in Linux
Open terminal and type "sudo nautilus" and then your password
Open filesystem and create a folder with any name e.g "dos" and minimize the window
goto dosbox and type "MOUNT c dos"
Type "c:" to change directory
All Set but you need to download some game(s) first to play ,check out http://www.dosgames.com/ , http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/
extract the zip file and open the folder , copy all the contents of the folder and paste it into the "dos" folder which was created earlier .
Check the .exe executable file e.g it is PRINCE_4d.exe
In dosbox type PRINCE_4d.exe
GAME STARTS!
Caution : Linux is case sensitive

Removing wireless card trouble in Ubuntu and Mint Linux

2011-07-19T23:04:00.000+05:30

For old hardwares , open source linux distros may turn out a pain in ass specially while configuring internet . If your PC is not detecting wireless or bluetooth even after switching on the hard switch of the laptop , try this :

open the terminal window
type "su" and type your password
if above step produces some error , type "sudo -i" and then your password
now you will notice a "#" sign , type "sudo rfkill list all"
now check wlan0 is soft blocked or hard blocked or both
then type "sudo rfkill unblock all"
Now check the network manager applet , top right corner in ubuntu and bottom right in mint
if this step also dosent work , applet must be showing "Wireless not managed"
In terminal window type "sudo nautilus" press enter key
now open filesystem>>etc>>NetworkManager
Open file NetworkManager.conf
[ifupdown]
managed=false

make a change in this file by replacing false by "true"
it should look like this now
[ifupdown]
managed=true

keeping other things intact , save the file

Reeboot your computer
If you are lucky enough , now your PC should detect your wireless card .

Configuring DSL :

" Type sudo pppoeconf " and press enter , a blue screen should appear .Follow the instructions and type your Username and password when asked and keeping all other settings intact but Remember : Do not start the connection on startup .

to connect type : "pon dsl-provider"
to disconnect : "poff"

Veda according to bhagwat Gita

2011-02-18T15:03:00.001+05:30

What are the Vedas and what is its message.
Everyone commonly sees the banyan tree. Its roots, branches and leaves are
very interesting. Its branches are innumerable. The worship of Banyan tree is
very common and of great importance in India, because our ancestors have

told that women, men, and children can grasp spiritual knowledge by this
banyan tree. Observing materialistically if we engage ourselves in these
branches i.e. the various actions told in the Vedas, then the Supreme
Brahman cannot be realized. But if we realize that the roots of this tree have
started from the abode of Brahma, then we can be released from the clutches
of this material nature. From its main roots Sankhya, nature, soul, modes,
five elements, ten senses and minds etc., have spread downwards. Thus, only
by knowing the essence of the Vedas one can be released from the
relationship with the material world. The base of the roots is permanent. But
without knowing this fact if we get entangled in the various material fruitful
actions born of the three modes then having struck ourselves in the branches,
we will have to wander from one branch to another branch. This clearly
means, we gain a particular branch of knowledge and find it unsatisfying,
and then we try to gain another type of knowledge and feel incomplete. This
process will continue unless we reach the real knowledge – the knowledge
of self-realization. The knowledge that answers queries such as, why we are
here, how to get liberated and also to understand God and our relationship
with such a God is the real knowledge. The essence and message of the
Vedas is to understand and see the Supreme Lord, who is the basis of all
Spiritual knowledge.
