Philip Rivers is a guy you can take a look at in the later rounds and still get a quality starter. Rivers will be one of the top 10 quarterbacks this season. He won’t be number 1, or even number 5 for that matter, but he will turn in a solid season and is truly a low risk selection.

If you are waiting to grab a good quarterback late, look his way. He won’t be a glamorous pick, but he will get the job done holding down the fort at QB for you, while your other studs light it up.

Rivers is the type of quarterback that could surprise in the 2009 fantasy football season, I like him a lot as a low risk selection at his position.

Aaron Rogers will be an excellent pickup this season. He had a pretty solid first year as starter for the Packers, and I expect that to continue this season as well. He showed that he can step in and pick up where Favre left off.

I don’t see Rogers going off the board terribly early in the 2009 fantasy draft, somewhere in the middle rounds. If your game plan is to wait on a quarterback, Rogers is worth keeping an eye on. The emergence of Jennings as a legit number one WR over the past few seasons, and seeing the chemistry between these two makes me feel that Rogers may be in for big things this year.

It might be a stretch to label Rogers as a sleeper in 2009, but he does have the potential to be a top 5 quarterback, although he most certainly won’t be one of the top five drafted this year. I’d classify him as a semi-sleeper, who should exceed most expectations this season.

Jones will be a good late round pickup this season, with big upside if Marion Barber gets injured. He’s worth a flyer pick in all leagues, a must draft for the guy who used a first round pick on Barber.

Jeremy Shockey moved up our rankings last season with a change of scenery to New Orleans. Reunited with the man whom he had his best season for, and stepping into a high powered offense looking to get their tight end more involved, Shockey had good potential coming into last season, but he ended up being a let down.

I like Shockey this year almost as much as I liked him last year, and think he could be a real value pick at the tight end position. The Saints are returning all of their offensive starters from last season, he’s had a year to get acclimated, and if he can stay injury free, has the potential to put up big numbers in the Saints high flying offense. Take a look his way, but don’t put all your eggs in his basket. If you’re going to pick up Shockey, make sure you grab another serviceable tight end as well.

LaMont Jordan is a bit of a late round sleeper pick after finding his way to Denver. The Broncos have been busy this offseason loading up at running back. Adding Jordan to the backfield gives them depth, but he has a legitimate chance to win the starting job.

Jordan is only a couple years removed from a starting role in Oakland. He ran well when he had the chance in New England this past year, but injuries have hurt him. If he can stay healthy and somehow win the Denver starting job, he could be a nice late round pick up.

If you are drafting early, keep him in mind. If you draft closer to the start of the season, keep an eye on how the backfield in Denver shapes up. I have a feeling they run with a committee type of approach this year, but you really never know with the Broncos.

Same kind of respect he gets in fantasy land too. Keep an eye on him, he will out perform his draft position again in 2009.

Mason has been around for years, but still catches the ball. Now he has a quarterback coming into his own throwing to him. Look for another 90-100 catch season. If he finds his way into the end zone a bit more often, he could be a huge pickup in the middle rounds. He’s a quiet guy, but one who will contribute. Also, if you play in point per reception leagues, add a bit of value to him as he does catch a lot of balls year in and year out.

The Patriots defense is going to be solid again this season. They lost some key players in the secondary this off-season, but the Patriots have a knack for getting new players to fill those shoes. New England is going to have a chip on their shoulder after losing the Superbowl last year, I look for them to come out playing at a very high level from game one.

You should have a top five fantasy defense with the Patriots. They will get you consistent points week in and week out, and are worth a good look.

Matt Forte came out in his rookie season and put up some real nice numbers. Expect that to continue in 2009.

The Bears offense is now set up to revolve around their stud running back Forte. He can catch the ball out of the backfield, run between the tackles, and has good speed. He is a complete back, and seems to be pretty durable.

Forte will carry the load for the Bears, and if you play in a point per reception league, he is going to be one of your studs. I expect him to move up in class this year, and think of him on the same level as say a Brian Westbrook. He is the cog to the Bears offense, and his second year will be more productive than his rookie campaign.

If you have a late first round pick, or if he slips into the second round, Forte is solid.

Ad Peterson could be a sneaky little sleeper pick for the 2008 fantasy football season.

The Bears drafted Matt Forte in the draft, and cut Cedric Benson. Their intention is for Forte to start, and they have said they won’t be bringing in additional running backs. If that is the case, Peterson has a legitimate shot at being the starter this season, whether winning the job in training camp, or picking it up mid season.

Peterson was a decent runner for the Bears last year. I’m not sold on Forte in the NFL, and think the Bears should be bringing in additional help at the position. Keep an eye on Peterson, he should be a forgotten man in the draft, especially the early drafts. If he falls to the later rounds, pick him up. He’ll be on the field this season, only question is going to be how much. I think he will get some decent playing time, and if the starting nod comes down to either him or Forte, I can see him winning that job at some point.
