Filipinos will always choose to smile amidst hardships; we find happiness even in the small things. We know how to be grateful and remain positive. We believe in the goodness of others. Indeed, despite the calamities that severely damaged our country, the Filipino optimism shines through.

As our country rebuilds itself from the calamities, ABS-CBN aims to promote the Philippines as a unique travel destination that takes pride in the beauty of each region, colorful culture, and of course, the stories behind the unique and infectious smiles of the Pinoys. Centering on the theme, PINASmile, the Summer Station ID will serve as a vehicle to showcase to people around the globe that the smiles are back in the country.

The team believes that genuine smiles can never be scripted, so the team made the Summer Station ID's goal to bring out raw and authentic happiness from the simple Pinoys. Kapamilya stars and news personalities were tasked to be the smile seekers. They were asked to immortalize these blissful moments with their camera lenses as they immerse themselves with the locals of the different places they visited such as the Igorots of Baguio, Aetas of Mt. Pinatubo and Ivatans of Batanes.

The Summer Station ID team also made it a priority to visit the provinces that have been severely devastated by calamities last year, particularly Bohol, Samar, and Leyte. The positive stories and warm smiles from these hard hit provinces are testaments of how brave and happy the Filipino hearts could be despite the tragedies that our fellow countrymen went through.

Let's make our summer story worth smiling about again, and show the world that the Philippines is one happy place worth visiting and coming back to.

It was nostalgia all over as the Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla and daughter Zia Quizon sang the theme of ABS-CBN’s 60th year in the “Kwento Natin Ito” station ID that brings back the iconic scenes from remarkable ABS-CBN shows that reflected the stories of Filipinos for the past 60 years.

“Kwento Natin Ito” pays tribute to the many experiences of Filipinos, mirrored through ABS-CBN’s timeless dramas, hit sitcoms, exciting reality-game shows, informative news programs, and breakthrough fantaseryes that have inspired the network in all its efforts since the birth of Philippine television.

It brought good memories of the romantic dramas that Filipinos watched fervently like “Pangako Sa’Yo,” “Tayong Dalawa,” “Princess and I,” and “Walang Hanggan” and game shows that showed the world-class talents and the fighting spirit of Filipinos in “Star in A Million,” “Star Circle Quest,” “Pinoy Dream Academy,” “Pilipinas Game KNB?,” “Pinoy Big Brother,” and “Pilipinas Got Talent.”

ABS-CBN also shared the laughter with each and every Filipino through sitcoms like “Kaya Ni Mister Kaya Ni Misis,” “Palibhasa Lalake,” “Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata,” and “Home Along Da Riles” and sat down with them for sensible and heart-to-heart conversations in talk shows like “Jullie,” “Teysi ng Tahanan,” “Homeboy,” and “Today with Kris Aquino.”

The 60 Years of ABS-CBN music video was created by ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management headed by Robert Labayen and Johnny Delos Santos. The 60 Years production team was supervised by Edsel Misenas, Kathrina Sanchez, Danie Sedilla-Cruz, and Dang Baldonado. It is based on the concept of the creative team composed of Christine Daria- Estabillo, Chiz Constantino-Perez and Sheryl Ramos. The music video was directed by Peewee Gonzales. Minute To Win It - Philippines Version

Do you think you can knock over a pyramid of beverage cans using rubber bands or pull all tissues out of a box one by one, using only one hand – all under 60 seconds? Complete tasks like these using everyday household items in less than one minute and you can win P1 million in ABS-CBN’s newest game show “Minute to Win It.”

From the international production company that brought you the local versions of “The Biggest Loser” and “MasterChef,” “Minute to Win It” made waves in the United States and around the world for its highly addictive and nerve-wracking games that challenge ordinary people to hone their skills for a chance to change their lives. It has been franchised in 40 countries, including Australia, India, and the United Kingdom.

The Philippine version of “Minute to Win It” will be hosted by Luis Manzano. Contestants take part in a series of challenges that utilize readily available items, in less than 60 seconds each. With each level increasing in difficulty and cash prize, contestants will have to decide if they stop playing and take the money they’ve earned, or continue for a shot at P1 million.

Try-outs for the game show will open on January 7 and 8, 8AM at the ABS-CBN Center Road in Quezon City to people 18 years old and above. Interested participants are encouraged to practice at home the games mentioned above.

Challenges that also await participants also include fanning three raw eggs with a pizza box into a pre-designated area on the other side of the stage, stacking eight octagon bolts on top of each other using a barbecue stick to form a tower that must be freestanding for three seconds, tossing a water bottle and getting it to land upright on a table five feet away, and sucking candies with a straw and placing them one at a time on straws standing vertically.

ABS-CBN has released the full trailer of “May Isang Pangarap,” an upcoming teleserye starring Carmina Villaroel, Vina Morales, and introducing the network’s newest child wonders–Larah Claire Sabroso and Julia Klarisse Base–both discovered via nationwide auditions.

“May Isang Pangarap” is one of the Kapamilya Network’s offerings for 2013 and according to reports, it will take the timeslot of “Aryana” which is ending soon.

Based from the trailer, the new soap is about the journey to stardom of two girls, to be portrayed by Larah Claire Sabroso and Julia Klarisse Base, both chosen from the nationwide auditions conducted by ABS-CBN.

Sabroso’s mom will be played by Carmina Villaroel while Base’s mom will be portrayed by Vina Morales.

‘Walang Hanggan’ Finale TV Ratings

ABS-CBN’s phenomenal TV drama “Walang Hanggan,” topbilled by Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, Susan Roces, Helen Gamboa, Melissa Ricks, Joem Bascon, Paulo Avelino, Julia Montes, and Coco Martin, recently ended on a high note as its finale soared high in the ratings game and dominated the worlwide trending topics on Twitter.

Based on the latest data of Kantar Media last Friday (October 26), ABS-CBN’s top-rating drama series garnered 45.4% national TV ratings, or more than 29 points ahead versus the farewell episode of its rival program in GMA “Luna Blanca” which only got 16.1%.

Aside from winning the ratings game, “Walang Hanggan” also conquered the popular microblogging site Twitter as hashtags #WalangHangganFinale, Katerina, Paulo Avelino, and RIP Daniel became worldwide trending topics due to the numerous tweets of TV viewers about the touching scenes of Daniel (Coco) and Katerina’s (Julia) deaths. The Twitter timeline was flooded with positive tweets like: “@LoveAprille: Congrats to the cast and crew for the #WalangHangganFinale! We stayed up in Sydney just to watch it! ABS-CBN rules TV ratings nationwide in July

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country's largest and leading multimedia conglomerate, continued its lead in TV ratings among urban and rural homes across the country for the month of July, wrestling daytime leadership (6AM to 6PM) from rival station and maintaining its consistent supremacy on primetime (6PM to 12 MN) when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers efficiently.

Data from Kantar Media show that ABS-CBN obtained an average national audience share of 42% for total day or a 12-point lead versus GMA’s 30%, which suffered a two-point decline in viewership last month.

Kantar Media is a leading television (TV) audience measurement provider with capabilities in gathering TV viewing data in both digital and analog platforms. It now has total of 6.315 million homes in rural areas across the Philippines (North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao) added to its existing 8.820 million homes in urban areas, bringing the total TV universe to 15.135 million homes nationwide. Kantar Media’s audience panel now covers and represents 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

For the entire month of July, ABS-CBN surged ahead of its competitors in national daytime with an average audience share of 37%, higher by four points than GMA's 33%. More notably, the country's highest rating daytime program "Be Careful with My Heart" on ABS-CBN even had more viewers than GMA's primetime shows. ABS-CBN’s “Be Careful With My Heart” rated at 19.7% as compared to GMA primetime programs “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” (15.9%), “Luna Blanca” (15.7%) and “Makapiling Kang Muli” (14.3%).

And when primetime clocks in, ABS-CBN viewership soared to 49% or almost twice the number of households tuning to GMA that had 27% share. ABS-CBN also continued its winning streak across other territories in primetime. In Metro Manila, ABS-CBN beat its rival with an average primetime audience share of 37% vs GMA’s 32%.

In total Balance Luzon (areas in Luzon outside of Mega Manila), ABS-CBN's primetime audience share hit 51% vs GMA’s 27%. The VisMin regions remained to be Kapamilya territories with ABS-CBN hitting an average primetime audience share of 58% in the Visayas compared to GMA’s 23%, and 64% in Mindanao or four times GMA’s primetime audience share of 16%.

This dominance was mainly driven by ABS-CBN’s weeklong top-caliber primetime offerings that continue to gain significant increases as more and more viewers watch them on both weekday and weekend nights. ABS-CBN made a clean sweep taking all 15 out of the top 15 slots in Kantar Media’s list of most watched programs for July.

“Walang Hanggan” continues to dominate the whole country as the number one program, hitting an average national TV rating of 39.2%, followed by leading weekend program “MMK” with a close 38.2% and royal teleserye “Princess and I” with 36.6%. “TV Patrol,” on the other hand, is still the undisputed and number one primetime newscast as it scored a national TV rating of 31.8% as opposed to rival “24 Oras” with only 17.5%.

ABS-CBN's morning drama series “Be Careful with Heart” topped all daytime programs, including independent blocktimer “Eat Bulaga” which only hit an average of 15.8%. The drama series secured the last spot in the top 15 with an average national TV rating of 19.7%.

Weekend programs also proved to be strong contenders in the ratings game as they occupied the 5th to 10th slots in the top 15. These includes “Wansapanataym” (31%), “PBB Teen Edition 4 (Saturday)” (26.6%), “Rated K” (26.5%), “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal” (25.3%), “The X Factor Philippines (Saturday)” (24.8%), and “Goin Bulilit” (24.3%).

Other Kapamilya programs in the top 15 are “Lorenzo’s Time” (22.7%), “Aryana” (22.7%), “Sarah G Live” (20.4%), and “TV Patrol Weekend” (19.8%) ABS-CBN registered a net income of P2.4 billion for the full year 2011, while news media reported that GMA Network net income plummeted to P1.72 billion in the same period.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court contrary to claims by GMA, which is not a party to the case, that it has been resolved.

X Factor Philippines Final 12 Slots - Who Will Make It?

The country’s biggest musical event of the year “The X Factor Philippines” finally named the top 20 contestants who will advance to the Judges’ Homes round of the competition.

Making it to the list of Boys (solo male performers 16-25 yrs old) are Anton AntenorCruz, Jeric Medina, Michael Pangilinan, Gabriel Anciano Maturan, and Kedebon Colim.

Allen Jane Sta. Maria, Jerrianne Mae Templo, KZ Tandingan, Abigail Mendoza, and Angelica Prado made it to the Girls (solo female performers 16-25 yrs old) category.

Contestants aged 26 and above also prove to be strong contenders with Joan Da, Paulo Castro, Cristine Ledesma, Mark Mabasa, and Modesto Taran comprising the Over 25s (solo performers 26 yrs old and above).

Completing the top 20 are the Groups (16 yrs old and above) namely Daddy’s Home, 5th Avids, Take Off, Sweet Bliss, and Lucky Girls. The Lucky Girls are composed of five different solo female performers who didn’t quite make the cut in the Girls category. Judge-mentors Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Charice, and Pilita Corrales saw a lot of potential in them that they decided to merge them in one group so as to advance to the next round.

All 20 contestants will join their respective group mentors in their houses or the mentor’s location of choice where they will be thoroughly trained to become better performers. The competition definitely gets more exciting and eliminations gets even more dramatic as only 12 contestants— three from each category— shall advance to the next and final round.

Who will mentor the Boys, Girls, Over 25s, and Groups? Who will make the cut and who will bid goodbye as the judge-mentors finally name the top 12 finalists who must impress the public via the live shows?

Broadcasting giant ABS-CBN launched its latest station ID in time for the rainy season, which premiered after the network’s flagship newscast “TV Patrol” on Monday.

Titled "Da Best Ang Feeling," the theme song was performed by singer-actress Toni Gonzaga.

With the tagline “Masarap ang Piling Kapag Ikaw ang Kapiling,” the music video focused more on returning love-team partners John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, who were shown at the start and the end of the video.

It also featured several Kapamilya stars who headline ongoing and upcoming television series of ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN 2011 Income -- P2.4 Billion

The consolidated net income of ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, registered P2.4 billion for the full year 2011.

ABS-CBN generated consolidated revenues of P28.2 billion from advertising and consumer sales, a 13% decline compared to 2010. Less the revenues from political advocacies and advertisements in 2010, consolidated revenues for 2011 declined by 4% year-on-year.

ABS-CBN’s advertising revenues reached P17.6 billion, a decline of 19% from a year ago. Minus the revenues from political advocacies and advertisements in 2010, advertising revenues declined by 6% year-on-year. This decrease is attributable to a slowdown in advertising spending by corporates.

Consumer sales for 2011 amounted to P10.6 billion, posting a 1% increase from a year ago. Sky Cable continues to contribute positively with revenues increasing by 10% to P4.3 billion. This is mostly driven by the increased take up of its broadband service subscriptions which increased by 18% year-on-year. However, ABS-CBN Global revenues declined by 8% year on year in peso terms due to the decline in subscribers and the appreciation of the Philippine peso against the US dollar. ABS-CBN Global’s overall viewer count was almost flat compared to the previous year. There was subscriber growth in Canada, Asia-Pacific and Australia, while there were declines in the Middle East, Europe, North America and Japan.

Total operating and other expenses dropped by P1.1 billion or 5% year-on-year to P22.3 billion. This was partly a result of lower cost of sales and services and general and administrative expenses (GAEX) as the company continued its effort to manage and control expenses. The decline in both expense accounts partly offset the increase in total production costs due to the Company’s drive to produce quality and innovative programs.

Net income attributable to shareholders is at P2.4 billion, aided by a gain on sale of Sky Cable Philippine Depositary Receipts (PDRs) to the Singaporean company, STT Communications Ltd. Meanwhile, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) hit P6.8 billion.

Capital expenditure and film and program rights acquisition for the year amounted to P4.2 billion, 14% higher than the level of spending from the previous year. Additional equipment was purchased to increase the company’s capacity to produce additional new programs.

ABS-CBN maintained its national audience share and ratings leadership with prime-time audience share averaging 43% , with a 13 percentage point lead over GMA’s, based on the Kantar National TV Ratings figure.

For the full year 2011, twenty one of the company’s shows were in the Top 20, with the following occupying the Top 18 slots: Emil Cruz Jr.’s Mara Clara, 100 Days to Heaven, PabloS. Gomez’s Mutya, Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, Ikaw ay Pag-ibig, Budoy, Maalaala Mo Kaya…, Noah, Pilipinas Got Talent (Sun), TV Patrol, Guns and Roses, Pilipinas Got Talent (Sat), My Binondo Girl, Imortal, Rated K Handa Na Ba Kayo?,Junior Master Chef Pinoy Edition (Sat), Wansapanataym, Nasaan Ka Elisa?, and Maria La Del Barrio

ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. released sixteen films in 2011. Five of them–Ang Tanging Ina Mo Last Na To, Dalaw, Catch Me I’m in Love, In The Name of Love, No Other Woman and Praybeyt Benjamin–topped P100 million in box office receipts, earning blockbuster status by local standards. No Other Woman, a co-production with Viva Films, grossed P282 million, while Praybeyt Benjamin, also a co-production with Viva, grossed P342 million.
