ABS-CBN 2011 Income -- P2.4 Billion

The consolidated net income of ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, registered P2.4 billion for the full year 2011.

ABS-CBN generated consolidated revenues of P28.2 billion from advertising and consumer sales, a 13% decline compared to 2010. Less the revenues from political advocacies and advertisements in 2010, consolidated revenues for 2011 declined by 4% year-on-year.

ABS-CBN’s advertising revenues reached P17.6 billion, a decline of 19% from a year ago. Minus the revenues from political advocacies and advertisements in 2010, advertising revenues declined by 6% year-on-year. This decrease is attributable to a slowdown in advertising spending by corporates.

Consumer sales for 2011 amounted to P10.6 billion, posting a 1% increase from a year ago. Sky Cable continues to contribute positively with revenues increasing by 10% to P4.3 billion. This is mostly driven by the increased take up of its broadband service subscriptions which increased by 18% year-on-year. However, ABS-CBN Global revenues declined by 8% year on year in peso terms due to the decline in subscribers and the appreciation of the Philippine peso against the US dollar. ABS-CBN Global’s overall viewer count was almost flat compared to the previous year. There was subscriber growth in Canada, Asia-Pacific and Australia, while there were declines in the Middle East, Europe, North America and Japan.

Total operating and other expenses dropped by P1.1 billion or 5% year-on-year to P22.3 billion. This was partly a result of lower cost of sales and services and general and administrative expenses (GAEX) as the company continued its effort to manage and control expenses. The decline in both expense accounts partly offset the increase in total production costs due to the Company’s drive to produce quality and innovative programs.

Net income attributable to shareholders is at P2.4 billion, aided by a gain on sale of Sky Cable Philippine Depositary Receipts (PDRs) to the Singaporean company, STT Communications Ltd. Meanwhile, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) hit P6.8 billion.

Capital expenditure and film and program rights acquisition for the year amounted to P4.2 billion, 14% higher than the level of spending from the previous year. Additional equipment was purchased to increase the company’s capacity to produce additional new programs.

ABS-CBN maintained its national audience share and ratings leadership with prime-time audience share averaging 43% , with a 13 percentage point lead over GMA’s, based on the Kantar National TV Ratings figure.

For the full year 2011, twenty one of the company’s shows were in the Top 20, with the following occupying the Top 18 slots: Emil Cruz Jr.’s Mara Clara, 100 Days to Heaven, PabloS. Gomez’s Mutya, Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, Ikaw ay Pag-ibig, Budoy, Maalaala Mo Kaya…, Noah, Pilipinas Got Talent (Sun), TV Patrol, Guns and Roses, Pilipinas Got Talent (Sat), My Binondo Girl, Imortal, Rated K Handa Na Ba Kayo?,Junior Master Chef Pinoy Edition (Sat), Wansapanataym, Nasaan Ka Elisa?, and Maria La Del Barrio

ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. released sixteen films in 2011. Five of them–Ang Tanging Ina Mo Last Na To, Dalaw, Catch Me I’m in Love, In The Name of Love, No Other Woman and Praybeyt Benjamin–topped P100 million in box office receipts, earning blockbuster status by local standards. No Other Woman, a co-production with Viva Films, grossed P282 million, while Praybeyt Benjamin, also a co-production with Viva, grossed P342 million.

After five months of unlimited surprises, drama, and twists and 29 housemates evicted from the Big Brother house, the Big Four housemates of “Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited” will come together at the “PBB Unlimited: Big Night at the Grandstand” to celebrate Pinoy pride and talent this Saturday (Mar 31) at the Quirino Grandstand.

With Divine’s eviction three nights before the finale, Biggel, Pamu, Paco, and Slater were announced as the Big Four housemates who garnered the highest percentages of votes in the other night’s one-hour poll. One of them will be declared as the reality show’s latest Big Winner.

The youngest in the Big Four cast is Biggel, the “Promdihirang Tisoy of Marinduque,” who was raised in a farm by his grandparents. The housemates have often remarked on his immaturity, but he has shown his eagerness to reach for his dreams and the scholarship he had longed for.

Similar to Biggel, 20-year old Pamu grew up in a modest household. Tagged as the bold and cheerful “Kitikiti Kid of Batangas,” she proved herself when she stood up against the oppressive Don and Donya and expressed her feelings for ex-housemate Kevin.

Paco, on the other hand, was admired for his role as Big Brother’s house player, who was tasked to bring out the true colors of his fellow housemates. As the unofficial head of the former Team Wayuk, the “Hopeless Romantic of Gensan” was able to display his assertive personality and leadership skills in their tasks.

Like Paco, Slater is also a leader who has remained firm in his principles to avoid hurting his fellow housemates’ emotions. Although he grew up privileged, he has shown compassion and willingness to help the underprivileged housemates.

Although they have yet to divulge the status of their relationship, Gerald Anderson finally admitted that he went out with Sarah Geronimo and their friends during Valentine’s Day. During a February 17 press conference at Napa restaurant where he was launched as Mint clothing’s newest endorser, Gerald shared that he had an enjoyable night at a KTV place with Sarah and a group that included Sarah’s Mommy Divine.

Although the 22-year-old actor refused to give any specific details, he did admit to having a happy Valentine’s Day. “Okay naman, masaya. It was a great, fun night. It was a group date, marami kami. The Budoy star said he hopes that the public will not automatically assume he and Sarah are more than friends already. “Kumbaga hindi lang dahil nakasama ko si Sarah sa Valentines ibig sabihin na nagmamadali kami. Kumbaga single siya, single ako, wala namang masama dun. Kinikilala ko pa lang siya. Tingnan natin, huwag tayo magmamadali. Maraming beses ko ng sinabi na special siya sa akin,” he added.

Gerald said he is grateful to Mommy Divine for being nice to him. “I’m just really happy na binibigyan nila ako ng opportunity para makasama ko si Sarah at yung buong pamilya niya,” said the new Mint Clothing endorser. He also admitted that spending time with Sarah is one of the reasons he is feeling happy right now. “Yung mga simpleng pagsasama lang, yung bonding moments pag magkasama kami. Masaya ako dahil mas nakilala ko siya. Pinakagusto ko sa kanya is yung ugali niya, yung pagkatao niya.”

When asked if he is willing to formally court her already, Gerald said his top priority is his show Budoy, which is ending in three weeks. “Tingnan natin. Kumbaga hindi ayaw ko din naman sabihin na oo agad. We have to take it slow. Okay na yun. Kung may bagong updates, pag-usapan natin pero sa ngayon wala pa. Para sa akin friends kami eh. Yun yung pinakamalinaw dun. Malinaw na friends kami. Pareho kaming single so wala namang masama dun kumbaga kung magkaroon ng opportunity in the future ulit na lalabas kami… oo naman,” he said.

When asked to react on Sarah’s comment that she would be happy for him if he finds a girlfriend, Gerald said he feels likewise when Sarah gets a boyfriend. “It just shows na friends pa rin kami at ganun din ako para sa kanya. Kumbaga siyempre gusto ko lagi na maging masaya siya,” he said.

ABS-CBN’s newest Kapamilya Gold drama series, “Mundo Man ay Magunaw” sets the bar higher for afternoon soaps this Monday (January 30) as it presents a compelling family drama featuring a formidable ensemble cast of young and seasoned actors that include Empress, Nikki Gil, Ejay Falcon, Sylvia Sanchez, Allan Paule, Pinky Amador, Jason Gainza, Dianne Medina, Alex Castro Tessie Tomas, and Eula Valdes.

ABS-CBN kicks off the year of the dragon with the much-awaited and biggest Korean drama “City Hunter” premiering this Monday (Jan 23) in Primetime Bida.

Taking the lead in this landmark Korean production is Asian superstar Lee Min Ho who returns on Philippine primetime TV after his hit series “Boys Over Flowers,” and “Perfect Match” on ABS-CBN.

Playing as Min Ho’S leading lady is his rumored real-life girlfriend, Park Min Young. The two reportedly fell in love while shooting the action-drama soap.
