Yeng is the Winner!

Just as the show promised 4 months ago, a dream was fulfilled last night. And, it's Yeng's. She garnered 37% of the votes to beat 5 other co-scholars.

Jay-R got the 2nd place with 32% and Ronnie have 27%.
Bright future lies ahead of Yeng. Sa loob pa lang ng Pinoy Dream Academy, hitmaker na with her song "Hawak-Kamay." Good luck to her! Just like what Lea Salonga said, the real job begins after winning the PDA. It's really easy to be famous, but staying there will be difficult.

Good Luck to you Yeng. Wag lalaki ang ulo. Always follow your instincts. I hope you'd make the right decisions.

Honor List of Six

Finally, after about 4 months, the Honor List of Six has been named. They are, in no particular order, Jay-R, Chad, Yeng, Ronnie, Panky, and Irish.

Unfortunately, the crooner of Baguio, Yvan, and the Jukebox Queen Rosita of Dubai, got the lowest votes from the texter.

On the Grand Dream Night this Saturday in Araneta Coliseum, these six will compete for the Grand Star Scholar and fulfill her/his dreams. A singing contract, a Belgian Waffle franchise, and condo unit are just some of the stuffs he/she will go home with.

That would be the Question of the Week. For there will be no probationary night tonight. No four scholars nominated for expulsion will be revealed. But, we have the 8 remaining scholars to choose from. For the next Saturday night, 2 scholars from among the Dean's List of 8 will be expelled in preparation for the Big Night on December 16 - the night when the top 6 will compete in Araneta.

Yeng's Ang Awitin

I'll set the record straight. I don't like Yeng. There are couple of things to hate about her. (OA sa camera, pa-cute, masyadong pa-baby). Pero, she composes good songs. Hawak-Kamay is sooo good.

But, this song? This Ang Awitin? This song, Ang Awitin? (Yeah, it's redundant.) Ok, it's good. It got 53% of the votes. But, if you're gonna compare it with the other songs, it's less superior. Panky should've won. It's tastefully done. So, as Chad's. Mas maganda pa nga iyong kay Rosita.

Pero, siyempre, just like what I said before, that's how election in the Philippines goes. Popularity is the word! Guys, be objective enough when voting.

But, don't get me wrong. Yeng is a true musician. She is the epitome of the millions of hopefuls out there. Her popularity or "masa appeal" is a plus.

Kaya nga alam na natin kung sinong mananalo. I'll bet 100 pesos.

Eman Expelled

Tonight, Eman, the Ilonggo scholar, got the lowest texter's percentage vote of 21%, against Panky, Ronnie and Irish.

The guy, rock-wise, is very good. But as the competition progressed, one would notice that he's doing the same thing. Same moves. Same raspy voice. Same genre of music. No versatility. Would capture only a small portion of the audience. To make the prognosis worse for him, he can never compete with Irish and Ronnie in the looks department, which obviously was a plus for the latter two and that was shown in the expulsion night tonight.

But, Eman, I must say, is funny. Good Luck, Eman.

12th Nomination

For the first no one got a score below 80. This just shows that the scholars of Pinoy Dream Academy are getting better and more competitive.

To make things more exciting, we have 3 past Star Scholars for next Saturday's expulsion night - Eman, Ronnie, and Panky, who was nominated for the first time. Irish completes the list.

Yeng's I Will Survive

Davey; Oust by the People

Remember when Erap was ousted by the help of a throng of texters in 2001?
Although a loose analogy, this also happened to Davey. He got the lowest votes from the people against Yeng, Ronnie and Rosita who undoubtedly have bigger fan bases. This is the first expulsion night wherein the public was given the sole reponsibility to save who they think deserves to stay in the Pinoy Dream Academy.

Last night, Davey sang an original composition "Spending My Life With You" requested by his girlfriend, Angie. I like the song. It's radio-friendly. And the man can really sing!

11th Nomination

Finally, they are down to ten. However, as the first term of the Pinoy Dream Academy is coming to an end, they have to expell more. So, coming this Saturday, we (the public) are given the sole responsibility to boot out one. There will be no saving by the teachers and scholars next gala night.

On the chopping block for this week are Ronnie, Rosita, Davey, and Yeng. The voting is getting harder and harder. Who will you save? Mechanics here.

Joan, Arrivederci!

We have to say goodbye to Joan Ilagan, the scholar from Italy, who was praised by some jurors and teachers before to have one with the most beatiful voice among the scholars of the Pinoy Dream Academy.

Fortunately, last night she was voted out by her co-scholars in another close votation (6-5) against Davey. Jay-R was earlier saved by the public; and Irish, a fellow global, by the teachers.

Joan, Irish, Davey and Jay-R Nominated

Yesterdy, the scholars paid tribute to Pinoy Rock and sang classics from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and even from the recent years.

It was the first Saturday (since the first gala night) that there was no one expelled because Michelle went out last Wednesday after being nominated for the 5th time. Last night, was also a pivotal night for Rosita for if she would be on the bottom 4, she would be expelled right away.

However, Joan, Irish, Davey and Jay-R were the ones nominated by the jurors namely Cookie Chua, Jimmy Antiporda and Louie Ocampo.

Ronnie vs. Joan

The most controversial issue inside the Academy right now is the conflict between Joan and Ronnie regarding Ronnie's "fake" affair with Michelle. Matagal-tagal na rin itong issue na ito. Last October pa ng pinapakita ito sa primetime pero this week lang napakita iyong "bull sessions" ng mga scholars last October 15. And now, after the one-on-one conversation of Joan with Headmaster Jim, it again resurfaced.

My take on this? Finally, they're (the producers) giving more attention to Joan. It's time to give her more airtime. Although a negative publicity, but it's still publicity.
Joan has a point, though. But, she should mind her own business. Mukhang si Joan ang susunod na Rosita - getting lots of criticism. Hinay-hinay lang guys.

Michelle Automatically Expelled

Another scholar and globee (after Kristoff) to be automatically expelled after gathering 5 nominations from the jury. This girl from Amsterdam received a grade of 7.34, the lowest among the scholars, for her version of I Honestly.

The four scholars with the lowest scores were Jay-R, Davey, Irish and Michelle. However, with the five-nomination rule in effect, the nominations this week were rendered null and void. Instead, Headmaster Jim came up with a shocking announcement; the gala night this coming Saturday will continue, there will be no text, teacher and student votes – which means no one will be expelled that night. The students will have to give their best though, because the judges will still be present to take note of the next four probationary students. And of course Rosita should not slack off so that she will not suffer the same fate as Michelle's.

Being not in the lowest 4 in the performances, Rosita was lucky not to be automatically expelled. Ronnie was saved by the public. The teachers once again loved Rosita's performance. The scholars voted for Emman at a very close vote of 6-5. Most of them opined that Emman delivered a better performance.

Chai is the eight scholar to go out of the Academy. Bye Chai!

Ghost inside the Academy

It was already around a month since the talk of ghosts inside the Pinoy Dream Academy surfaced. Una si Panky raw nakakita ng isang batang lalaking spiky ang buhok sa CR ng girls at may nakikita siyang vision na lumalabas ang name ng isang rape victim raw na Angel Alquiza ang name. Nakakaramdam din daw sila ng kakaiba sa loob ng bedroom ng girls. Mahirap daw sila makatulog doon at parang mabigat daw ang feeling. May balita pa na minsan magla-lock na lang daw ang pinto. Umabot pa sa time na pinagpalit pa tulugan ng boys at girls. Ngayon sa labas na rin natutulog ang mga boys. They've already vacated the girl's bedroom.

The producers even brought in some spirit questors of sort or someone who handle those kinds of things to pray for the spirits. Pero hindi nila pinakita sa scholars para hindi naman sila maapektuhan.

Lately, may incident naman na sa loob ng music room, pagkatapos gamitin ni Chad ang CD player at pagkalabas niya, kusang tumugtog ito na narinig nila Chai at Panky. Ito iyong usapan nila after the incident.

For me, it might be true. Kasi marami ang nakakaramdam. Pero may tawag sa psychiatry na mass hysteria. Nagsisimula ito sa isang tao, at ang hallucination or delusion ay nagpo-propagate sa iba. Bilang isang tao rin na nakakita na ng mga ganitong bagay, maaari ngang totoo ito. Pero, wala bang video na may nakitang ghost? 24 hours ang camera sa Academy, wala ba silang na-capture kahit isa. That would be very interesting to watch.

Pero, ito ang mga totoong zombies. Nakakatuwa itong dance performance ng mga boys last Saturday . They've really improved a lot when it comes to dancing. Congrats to Teacher Maribeth and the scholars.

8th Set of Probationary Scholars

Personally, the eighth batch of probationary scholars is a bit shocking for me. I believe that the four are among the strongest contenders in the Academy. Pero tulad nga ng sabi ni Headmaster Jim, sa showbiz, minsan nasa taas ka, minsan nasa baba.
Ronnie, Chai, Eman and Rosita, who was prenominated because of failing midterm grades, were the ones nominated for expulsion. Ironically, Ronnie and Eman were once Star Scholars and Chai got the highest midterm grades. For Rosita, this is her fourth nomination despite her exceptional delivery last gala night, so she should really focus hard in practicing for next Saturday.

Honestly, if you would ask me, I don't even know who to vote for. This is going to be the hardest voting decision so far. I'd rather vote for the ones not nominated who are apparently "less superior" than the four. Pero siyempre, hindi naman pwede iyon. Oh well, bahala na kayo sa pagboto - the mechanics here. Vote wisely. ;P

Rosita, Lowest in the Midterm

She performed well last night with her rendition of Total Eclipse of the Heart. Siguro nga Star Scholar pa siya for that performance. However, she got automatically nominated for next week's expulsion night because she got the lowest grade of 68.63 in their midterm exams. This is her 3rd time to ne nominated.

Alam ko dadagsain na naman ng comments itong post na ito. Sa mga galit kay Rosita, hinay-hinay lang ang comment. She deserves some respect from us. Guys, I know, in the "Looks department" wala talaga siyang habol, pero guys, she has talent. Ok? And you must admit, she has really improved.

Let's just wait for the announcement of the other 3 probees tonight.

Iya Out, Mich Survived

Iya Gines, the scholar from Pangasinan, becomes the seventh scholar to go out of the Academy.
Last night, Michelle, the one from Amsterdam, was put in a difficult situation after nominated for the 4th time. If her performance would be in the bottom four last night, she would automatically booted out. But fortunately, she impressed the jurors, getting a score of 7.4. Irish, on the other hand, was saved by the texters; Yvan by the teachers; and, Michelle by her co-scholars with 9-3 vote.

Paano na kaya si Jay-R ngayong wala na si Iya? Unti-unti atang natitibag ang mga loveteams natin...

Nominated for 7th Expulsion Night

Again, Michelle was nominated for expulsion next week. This is her fourth time, putting her in Kristoff's shoes last week. If she would be in the lowest four next performance night, we have to say goodbye to the "Globie" from Amsterdam. This was according to the the 5-probation rule.

Yvan, Irish, and Iya were likewise nominated. The Jury of Three the other night was comprised of Noel Trinidad, Eugene Villaluz, and Kuh Ledesma.

Chad, This Week's Star Scholar

I can't help but make a post regarding Chad being the Star Scholar for this Week. He got an average score of 9.3 from the jurors.

Early last week, when I heard that he's gonna sing Freddie Aguilar's "Anak", I was quite pessimistic for Chad. It is hard to sing a classic like "Anak." When you sing such songs, you should either make a perfect copy of the original version or opt to gamble with a version of your own. Either way, pwede kang lamunin ng kanta. A song like "Anak" has a life of its own. Really.

The main problem with singing these type of songs is that you will always be compared with the original singer. Kung hindi mo nagaya iyong song perfectly just as the first interpreter did, magmumukha ka lang parang nagbi-videoke. Kung hindi naman maganda ang version mo, sasabihin nilang sinira mo lang ang kanta.

What Chad did was exceptional! A new flavor to a classic song. Just like what Eugene Villaluz said, "He made the song as if his own." Di siya nalamon ng kanta. He really deserves being a Star Scholar this week.

P.S. And thank God! Finally, Chad listen to Direk Jose Reyes. Nasabi kasi dati ni Direk na ang gwapo-gwapo ng mukha ni Chad pero pinapapangit niya during his performances. Ini-exaggerate niya kasi facial expressions niya. This time he finally tapped one of his greater assets - his face.

PDA Dream Girls

The Talent Center has just launched a new girl group (Pussycat Dolls-like) who used to be contestants of Pinoy Dream Academy but didn't make it to the Top 20 (of course except Gemma) - the Pinoy Dream Academy Dream Girls. We first saw them performed tonight in the 6th Expulsion Night of the Academy. The group is comprised of:

Its Saludo
Gemma Fritzgerald
Michelle Murenec
Jonah Maluto
Czar Rosales
Wendy Valdez

They're good. Their song is radio-friendly; their performance, sexy and sultry. And I know their "new and bold packaging" will click. Another group of talents to watch out for. I just hope that they will not be mere "second-rate copycats" of PCD.

Prediction: Some of them, if not all, will be listed in the FHM's 100 Sexiest Women next year.
At nakita niyo ba yung mga panga ng scholars. Laglag di ba? Iniisip siguro nila "mauuna pa silang sisikat kaysa sa amin." Sana pinatapos muna nila iyong season para delicadeza na rin sa mga nasa loob. Kung sa bagay, wala pa namang album. What can you say?

Kristoff, Automatically Expelled

Kristoff, the scholar from Canada, was automatically expelled after being nominated for expulsion for the 5th time tonight. This was the new rule in The Academy.

Unfortunately tonight, his performance of his original composition got one of the four lowest scores. But, I must say, it was his best performance inside the Academy.

Good luck to you man. Good soul - that's how I will remember you.

P.S. Oh, I must say this, he really lost some weight. Look at his picture here taken before they enter PDA. Thanx to Teacher Gege; now, he's a hunk!

Wake-up Call

I'm just wondering.. Hindi ba sa Pinoy Big Brother dati may wake-up call pa.. Minsan alarm clock lang. Minsan songs. Once nga, boses pa ni Madam Auring. Bakit wala na ngayon sa Pinoy Dream Academy?

Anyway, ang masasabi ko lang, the once who got up late don't have the right to blame it to somebody else - this time, to Iya? Hindi na sila bata na gigisingin pa. They're old enough to look after themselves. They should not rely those things to someone else.

They woke up late. So, face the consequences. Hindi iyong nagsisigaw pa sila. Grow up, guys.

Oh by the way, the story was like this. Irish, Mich, Panky, Rosita, Chai and Joan were late for the fitness class after they woke up late. They blamed it to Iya. Apparently, during the past weeks, Iya was the one waking them up for she would be up early to cook their breakfast. So, as a punishment, Teacher Gege ordered them to clean up their bathrooms. Iya eventually realized it so she apologized to the girls except Rosita. They questioned Iya's apology; Irish even saying it's fake.
