Commons End of Life
Over the past six months, multiple announcements have been published regarding the decommissioning of the Commons. The purpose of this communication is to give you a final update on that timeline.
On August 24th, the remaining Commons sites will be set to “read only” mode. This means no changes can be made to any site. You can still view all the live content on your site and access the dashboard, but you will not be able to add, edit, or change anything.
On August 31st, all Commons sites will be archived and shut down unless other arrangements have been made. We will be happy to provide you with the archived site if you would like to upload it into another system (e.g. WordPress.com). You may request an extension, but during that time, your site will be in “read only” mode.
If you have any questions or need to request an extension, please submit an incident through our service desk at www.esc.edu/service-desk. You will be connected with someone to discuss next steps. Thank you.

Official Commons Decommissioning
The Commons, the college’s WordPress experimental website and blogging site, has been formally decommissioned. All sites we did not receive an evaluation request for have been deactivated, as detailed in our original announcements (http://www.esc.edu/its/news/commons-planned-decommission.html). If you submitted an evaluation request, that process will be managed within the service desk system.
If your site has been deactivated but you would still like the site to be reviewed, please place a Commons Site Evaluation service request at www.esc.edu/service-desk/. Please include the site’s URL in that request.

Welcome to the Empire State College Commons blogging system! Here faculty, staff and students can create, manage, and experiment within the WordPress platform.
Any news relating to the Commons system will appear below this welcome post. This will include announcements about system updates, scheduled or unscheduled maintenance, and new training material announcements. All these posts will be searchable in the sidebar and categorized.
Before you begin working in the Commons, take a moment to read about the goal of the Commons on the About tab, linked to in the navigation bar above and the sidebar. Then, take a look around our Commons Learning Center, which provides FAQs and guides to help you work in the Commons successfully.
If you have questions about how to accomplish something in the Commons, check the Commons Learning Center. If it’s not there or you find something is broken, submit an incident ticket at www.esc.edu/service-desk.
