All right so I've left the country, but I didn't want to leave you empty handed. I have to tell you that Academik has met a woman with more hidden music gems than I thought possible. I am in the process of seducing her so that I can bring all of her good music to the podcast. Feel free to send date suggestions to me@academik.org so that we ensure the stability and quality of future generations of podcasts.

Indie Hip Kid Mix - #88

This week, you get to feel like one of the cool kids. Asking people if they've heard the new m83 (releasing next week), or are they acquainted with the old school greatness that is Emmylou Harris? No, well you're more than happy to acquaint them and pass it all on in a mix you made (I don't have to take credit)... have a great week!

Kamael And Co Mix - #87

Last weekend while volunteering at the SF Foodbank I got to play DJ with my mammoth 80's ghetto blaster - totally worth it to own one if you have the opportunity. Some volunteers for the group asked for a mixtape of my music, but alas the days of mixtapes are gone and the days of podcasts have arrived (hooray!). This week's mix is dedicated to Kamael, Michelle, Rebecca, Holly, and Colleen. If I missed anyone, I'm sorry. Great for workouts, pre-Friday night or anytime you want to dance around in your apartment. You can't sit still for Maniac, it's impossible.

Indiful Mix - #85

I'm sharing some of my new faovrites with you this week from Thao (mad love for this woman who sounds a lot like Edie Brickell), Isobell Campbell (formerly of Belle and Sebastian), Basia Bulat and Bon Iver (heard on NPR and it was love at first listen). Bon Iver is the product of a winter in a cabin in the Midwest - amazing what happens when we pour our feelings into something. There's some old school love from Bob Dylan to kick off the track and a song from Starflyer 59 - a great band for lovers. All in all there's some great stuff this week for you to branch from - if you like one, let me know me@academik.org.

Parisian Affection - #84

MMmm... A variety of music this week from friends, foes, and fog-induced forgetfulness. We start with some classical music from Pink Martini and then wander through affection and cities with Crows Counting Blow. One of my favorite recent finds, Paul Brill, rocks out with Paris is On. No Cars Go to the Arcade Fire. Vampires chase people around campus on the weekend. Jamie T is back in the game. Missy Higgins finds the Wrong Girl. Finally Thrice walks For Miles in my shoes.

I don't have the thing, but I figure if they're going to hire cool people like LCD Soundsystem to create mixes, I ought to at least give them a little credit. http://www.apple.com/ipod/nike/ for more details on the product. Thanks for all the birthday wishes to everyone who called/wrote, and if you're in San Francisco we'll be getting together next Saturday night for some dancing so mark your calendars.

A week and a day ago the Grammys brought down Radio City Music Hall (I have no idea where they were). People laughed, Kanye cried, and there were no wardrobe malfunctions. Daft Punk brought out their pyramid, Amy Winehouse came out of Rehab to perform, and I did not watch any of it, but I read about it later. From those results... I give you the Grammy Winners from 2008.

2008 Welcomes You Mix - #78 Academik

So 2008 is upon us. My year started with a trip to see BT on New Year's Eve and then with a week in Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show. I met this week's opener, Suzanna Choffel, there and saw Molina Flamenco performing (soon to come on the podcast). This week is dedicated to new music from Suzanna, Rodrigo y Gabriela (thanks Jacob), Ana Martins (thanks Rishi), David Gray (he has a new greatest hits out so go pick it up if you like what you hear), and last but certainly not least William Walters and Tucker Rogers, a duo I've been wanting to put on the podcast for some time now, but just haven't had the opportunity. Have a listen and let me know what you think : ) me@academik.org

Have a listen and let me know what you think : ) me@academik.org</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>music,oldies,indie,hip,hop,academik,electronica,IDM,dance,drum,bass,chillout,chill</itunes:keywords>

Mokademic Mix - #76 Academik

A lot of this week's funkier selections were taken from Motel de Moka - a music blog with eclectic tastes like ours! Other highlights include an opener from Sam Sparro, a new track off of Radiohead's In Rainbows album, and a remix of The Shins by the Remix Artist Collective. Congratulations to Sabir, the guy in the picture, who announced his engagement this week in spite of his herpes. As always you can contact me@academik.org

Jealous of Your Music Mix - #75 Academik

I felt like I needed to do some searching for some really good stuff for this week's show since I missed last week's, and I found some gems. Big thanks to the SoundCheck radio show here in SF on 105.3 that landed all of us some great new music. I'm really loving the Rogue Wave music as well as the new single, Flux, from Bloc Party. Also got a chance to check out the up and coming Jealous Girlfriends from Brooklyn, NY. As always you can contact me@academik.org

Bjorn Yorn Mix - #74 Academik

This week's mix was really inspired by Justin King's CD Le Bleu. Music inspired by Justin's travels around the world made a good accompaniment to work this week and last. I went down to Scotts Valley near Santa Cruz this week for a much needed retreat with my church. Surrounded by redwoods and fresh piny air makes your head clear, but unfortunately it does nothing for your schedule. Wish me luck with finding a new place to live, and a new focus on the future. me@academik.org

Electrogressive Mix - #73 Academik

Saturday afternoon as I pondered what to include this week two friend called to tell me they were jamming out to last week's mix. I thought to myself - why not give them some more this week? I did a lot of digging on the net to find this week's chart topping electro and progressive house tracks. If you've been out in the clubs lately you're bound to have heard at least a few of the tracks here. Enjoy the random smattering of photos and know that Thanksgiving is quickly appraoching - hence the plate of food photo on this mix. Listen in iTunes to see all the artwork and enjoy. Let me know your thoughts at me@academik.org

Technonica Mix - #72 Academik

I had a little bit of techno in me this week so I had to let it out. One of my favorite tracks, Burnin' by Hybrid, makes the mix this week along with others from The Crystal Method, DJ Fresh, DJ Baby Anne, and DJ Sleepyhollow. A good mix of techno and drum and bass to get you pumped (and a little creepiness) to get your Halloween bumpin'. Let me know your thoughts at me@academik.org

Cover Me! We're going under cover this week to discover the best covers out there. Many thanks to the Hype Machine (www.hypem.com) which definitely helped me find some of the stranger covers on here. Gossip's rocking cover of Careless Whisper might just take the cake though. Let me know your thoughts at me@academik.org

Academik Podcast #59 - Fly On The Euro Wall Mix

Well there was just so much good music coming out of Europe at the moment that I had to stop and share. Highlights include the debut albums from Justice and Digitalism, a new track from veterans The Chemical Brothers, an oldie but a goodie that's gotten a reworking, and then some nice hip/hop mashups from LilWayne, Coldcut, and Spank Rock. Oh, and a remixed track by up and coming superstar Mark Ronson and two of the hottest UK djs (apart from Kissy Sell Out) Trevor Lovelys and Sinden. All brought to commercial free and in stereo by Spam, the meat that's not. me@academik.org

Let's throw another dub on the barbie! While still working on the final Summer Anthems 2007 mix, I'm trying out a little dub. This week we descend to the islands for some Marley, come to California for some Kaskade, and fly to New Zealnd for Fat Freddy's Drop (hot new stuff). A mix of dub, r and b, and chillout - I think you'll like it over the summer. Great with salsa or guacamole! www.academik.org for the tracklisting. me@academik.org for questions, comments, suggestions.

Drum and Bass baby! A little bit of last year mixed with this year and an amazing remix of... well you'll just have to listen. The mix starts out with a remix of Pacific State by 808 State and then progresses through some phuturistic blues remixes. It starts to turn the corner with some Alix Peres from last year and some Matrix and Future Bound along with High Contrast. We crank it up a notch with some huge tunes from the moment by TC and Matrix and Futurebound (once again bringing a huge track much like they did with the Jakatta - American Dream remix) and then we finish with the anthem of last year: Pendulum vs. The Freestylers - Fasten Your Seatbelt. If you haven't heard this track yet, you don't know how Drum and Bass can make you want to get up and shout.

Academik Podcast #44 - Ambience inspired by Air

A tribute to Air's new album Pocket Symphony. Styles mix and meld into relaxed aural pleasure this week. INspired by Air's new album, I've put together a variety of songs that inspire and provide a good background to whatever you might be doing. Highlights for me are The Album Leaf and Helio Sequence - both recent discoveries for me that have really gotten into my head. Architecture in Helsinki makes an appearance with their song It's almost a trap, along with Sun Kil Moon playing Space Travel is Boring. The mix finihses with highly instrumental pieces from Very Secretary and Talk Demonic, and then a great blues track from Tom Waits called Alice. I hope you enjoy!

Academik Podcast #41 - Progressive Trance

This progressive trance/house mix is great music to take your mind away for a while. Listen at work, in the car, or while wandering the city and get lost for a while. This mix starts off with a piece from Glasgow's Silicone Soul off the Soma record. Other artists include Deepsky, Deep Dish, Telepopmusik, Markus Schulz, Ewan Kaye, and a Phonique remix of Skye Edwards. All great tracks for you to discover something new this week. I highly recommend Silicone Soul, Deep Dish, and Markus Schulz if you feel the urge to explore from this podcast.

Academik Podcast #40 - Great Indie Music!

I've looked all over the place this week for great new music. The first is Alexi Murdoch, a singer/songwriter from Glasgow who I heard on a movie trailer with his song Orange Sky. Then we switch to a lounge sound from Sondre Lerche - although his new album sounds quite different. Justin King's Band plays Beauty Bar and then Change which are fantastic tracks that remind me a lot of Cary Pierce. In between the JK tracks is Golden Skans off of the brand new album from the Klaxons.
The elected give us something completely fresh with Sun,Sun,Sun and then Gary Jules of Mad World Donnie Darko fame brings us another gem with Falling Awake. Finally we round up the podcast with Cruel Storm by espers (great mood music) and Rubies by Destroyer (a 9.5 minute jaunt into the Dylanesque mind of Daniel Bejar. All great and all for you.

Small detour to Califone and then a great remake of Careless Whisper by Ben Folds. We finish strong with Via Audio, Tokyo Police Club, and Peter Bjorn and John - the Girl talk remix.
World Music - This week starts off with one of my favorite songs, The Shining by Badly Drawn Boy... this one just so happens to be
the minotaur shock remix, but the original, and the Avalanches remix are both excellent as well. Then we start a journey around the globe with
some great music from Mali in Western Africa, then to India, then it's off to Argentina for some fabulous Tango. Afterwards we go to Spain
to visit a singer who seranades in Catalan and finally down to Cameroon and then Brazil to finish with some Portugese flair that I know you all love.
You can find out the artists and songs at www.academik.org!

This week's mix is a bit mellow and quirky, but definitely not to be missed as it contains a new song from Damien Rice from his upcoming album 9, a live song from Emily Haines new album along with undiscovered music from Jess Hill, ABCs darlings Foy Vance and Joe Purdy as well as soundtrack tracks from The Hunger, and In The Mood for Love. With a vast variety like this how could you say no? Oh, and spoken word from Shane Koyczan, Canada's answer to WMDs.
