Discovering True Love
Love is more than a feeling; it’s an action.
Feelings are a great servant but a terrible master.

Jeremiah 17:9 // The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

ἀγάπη (agape)- selfless, unconditional, sacrificial love that seeks the good of the other regardless of their worthiness or response.

1 Corinthians 13:1-2 // If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 // Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

 	L: Lifts

1 Thessalonians 5:11 // Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Relationship question: How can I best support you in this season?
 	O: Others-Focused

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 // It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking
Philippians 2:3-5 // Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.

Selfishness drains the life from a relationship, while service deposits strength to make it grow.
Relationship question: How can I serve you better?
 	V: Values

1 Corinthians 13:6-7 // Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

To value someone means you focus on their importance without tripping over their issues.

Romans 12:10 // Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Relationship question: What can I do to make you feel honored?
 	E: Endures

1 Corinthians 13:8 // Love never fails.
Colossians 3: 13 // Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Every thriving relationship is the result of two great forgivers.
Relationship question: Is there anything I have done that has hurt you and how can I fix it?

1 John 4:7 // Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.]]></itunes:summary>

Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.

Proverbs 13:20 // Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.

You may be one friend away from changing the course of your destiny.

Acts 9:26-28 // When [Saul] came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord.

Three types of friends every person needs
Samuel: A friend who makes you better

1 Samuel 16:12-13 // …Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David.
Proverbs 27:17 (NLT) // As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.

Jonathan: A friend who helps you find spiritual strength.

1 Samuel 23:15-16 // While David was at Horesh in the Desert of Ziph, he learned that Saul had come out to take his life. And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God.

Nathan: A friend who tells you the truth.

2 Samuel 12:7 // Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!”
Proverbs 27:5-6 (NLT) // An open rebuke is better than hidden love! Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.]]></itunes:summary>

Love was never meant to be a contract that protects our rights but a covenant that calls us to surrender them. Rooted in passages like Ephesians 5 and Genesis 2, this message challenges us to trade self-centered love for a Christ-centered commitment marked by unconditional love, mutual submission, and honoring one another well.

What does love require of me?
CONTRACT: We PROTECT our rights and LIMIT our responsibilities.
 	Covenant
 	Cut
COVENANT: We GIVE UP our rights and PICK UP our responsibilities.

Genesis 2:21-25 // So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

 	Rights we give up:

 	 PRIORITY.
 	OWNERSHIP.

1 Corinthians 7:4 // The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife.

 	PRIVACY.

Ephesians 5:22-33 // Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

 	Responsibilities we pick up:

 	LOVE unconditionally.
 	HONOR respectfully.
 	SUBMIT mutually.

The resurrection is not just something we celebrate but a power we are invited to experience in our everyday lives. Through the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we're reminded that there is no pain is beyond His purpose, no confusion beyond His presence, and no situation beyond His power to bring life.

Mark 16:9-13 // When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. 11 When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it. 12 Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country. 13 These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.

1 Peter 2:21 (MSG) // This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step.

We are a people of faith

Hebrews 11:1-2 // Faith is what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see. God was pleased with the people who lived a long time ago because they had faith like this.

Your life changes when faith becomes the very thing you live out

Mark 2:1-12 // When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. Soon, the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, “What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!” Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’? So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers…

 	The crowd
If our faith fills rooms but empties compassion, we’ve missed the heart of Jesus

Luke 19:10 // For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

Through passages like Matthew 4 and Luke 9, we are challenged to move beyond being fans of Jesus and step into the daily surrender of real discipleship.

They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

In this message, we’re reminded that the church was never meant to be a monument for insiders but a movement that turns the world upside down, as seen in Acts 17 and Jesus’ promise in Matthew 16 to build His church. We are challenged to create a church for everybody by one-anothering well and refusing to make it difficult for those who are turning to God.

In this message, Pastor Jason explores how generosity shapes the legacy we leave, challenging us to live in a way that outlives us through intentional, sacrificial, and even extravagant giving. Through the example of Mary’s offering in Gospel of John and Gospel of Mark, we are reminded that true generosity flows from grace, not selfishness, and that we give not to get, but in response to the mercy we have already received.

And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. 7 “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. 8 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”

In this message, we’re challenged to see generosity as a mindset shaped by faith rather than fear or scarcity. Through Scripture, we’re reminded that God multiplies what is blessed and given, inviting us to trust Him as the source of abundance in every area of our lives.

 	Generosity is a MINDSET.
Generosity is not about what I have. It is about how I think.
 	Scarcity vs. Abundance
“God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with.” - Billy Graham

Proverbs 11:24 (MSG) // The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.
Malachi 3:7-12 // Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’ 8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.

 	Return
 	Rob
 	Whole
 	Test
 	See
 	Arubbōṯ - Floodgates, Window
 	God is a multiplier

Luke 9:12-17 // Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.” 13 He replied, “You give them something to eat.” They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.” 14 About five thousand men were there.
Matthew 14:21 // The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Luke 9:12-17 // But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15 The disciples did so, and everyone sat down. 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. 17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
Matthew 14:21 // The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Principle 1: It has to be blessed before it can multiply.
Principle 2: It has to be given away before it can multiply.

What is good financial advice for a 16-year-old?

 	Marry someone rich
 	Learn compounding interest
 	Be an extravagant giver

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 // Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

 	Hilaron
Hilaron - joyous, cheerful, not grudging
Hilaron - won over, already decided
Money tells the story of our hearts

Matthew 6:24 // “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Do we have money or does money have us?
Money is the chief competitor of my heart with God.
 	Dangerously discontent
Greed: The assumption it’s all for my consumption.
 	Mastered by Money:

 	Live
 	Save
 	Give

 	Mastering your Money

 	Give
 	Save
 	Live

Matthew 6:31-33 // So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

 	ACTION STEP: Put God First

Isaiah 29:13 // The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught."
Matthew 6:21 // For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

We live by faith, not fear
Faith is knowing and not knowing at the same time
A heart touched by God is generous and generous starts with the tithe.
 	We’re not stingy, we’re scared.
 	10
A heart touched by God passes the test.
Generosity is not a money issue. It’s a lordship issue.
 	What is my next step?

 	Pray
 	Automate the Important
 	Rest

Compassion isn’t just something we feel—it’s something we do, even when it costs us time, comfort, or convenience. The story of the Good Samaritan reminds us that following Jesus means choosing a love that interrupts our plans, serves others boldly, and reflects the heart of Christ.

Through the story of the lame man in Acts, we’re reminded that faith isn’t wishful thinking—it’s confident expectation in the power and name of Jesus. When we choose faith over fear and expectation over limitation, God meets us in the “ridiculous” and does the miraculous.

<itunes:summary><![CDATA[Ephesians 3:20 (LB) // Now glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes.

 	Play it safe
 	Faith

Hebrews 11:6 // Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Romans 1:17 // For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

 	What is Faith?
Faith is Seeing From God’s Point of View
 	Faith is not:

 	Desire
 	Pretending that something is true
 	A Feeling
 	Bargaining with God

Hebrews 11:1 // Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Faith is a way of seeing

1 Samuel 17:32-33 (NLT ) // “Don’t worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I’ll go fight him!” “Don’t be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There’s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been a man of war since his youth.”

 	Am I Reasonable or Ridiculous?

Acts 3:1-3 (NLT) // Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. 2 As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money.

 	Expectation determines experience.
Sometimes it’s easier to exist than to expect.

Acts 3:4-6 (NLT) // Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
Acts 3:7-10 (NLT) // Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

In the ridiculous, we find the miraculous
 	Whose faith healed the man?
 	What power was used?

Acts 4:7-12 // They brought in the two disciples and demanded, “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, 9 are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? 10 Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead. 11 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’ 12 There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

 	What was the man’s response?
What was the man’s response? Gratitude

2026: Make Room for God’s Presence
Ruach – a wind, breath, a violent exhalation, blast of breath.

Genesis 1:2 // Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Pneuma – a current of air, blast of breath, a strong breeze.

John 6:63 // The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

 	Wind is unseen.

John 14:17 // The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

 	Argument & Experience
 	Wind is unpredictable.

John 3:8 // Jesus answered...“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

 	Wind is powerful.

Acts 1:8 // “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.”

 	Wind is refreshing.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NLT // For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
John 20:22 // And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 4:1-5 // On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:12-16 // Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?” 13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.” 14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel
Acts 2:38-39 // Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

Let go of fears and misconceptions

James 1:17 // Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Ask God to give me all that He has for me

Ezekiel 47:3-5 // As the man went eastward with a measuring line in his hand, he measured off a thousand cubits and then led me through water that was ankle-deep. 4 He measured off another thousand cubits and led me through water that was knee-deep. He measured off another thousand and led me through water that was up to the waist. 5 He measured off another thousand, but now it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had risen and was deep enough to swim in—a river that no one could cross.
2 Corinthians 13:14 // May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
2 Corinthians 13:14 (MSG) // The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.

 	He convicts me

John 16:8 (NLT) // And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.

 	He guides me

John 16:13 // But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

 	He’s my best friend

From the story of Hosea to John 3:16, we’re reminded that God doesn’t love us because we’re worthy; He loves us because He is love. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us, and Jesus continues to seek and save the lost. In this message, Pastor Jason looks at the breathtaking depth of God’s love—one that rescues, covers, pursues, and restores us.

In this message, Pastor Jason explores the biblical call to honor and how it positions our hearts to receive the rewards God intends for us. From Jesus’ experience in His hometown to the Scriptures’ teaching on honoring authority, we see that honor isn’t just about words but the posture of our hearts.

 	Reward

Mark 6:1-6 // Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.

If we understand what restrains Jesus, we’ll understand what restrains us.
HONOR - Valuable, Precious, Weighty such as gold
DISHONOR - Devalue to treat something valuable as common.
 	Amazed

Matthew 8:10 // When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.
Isaiah 29:13 // The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth
and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship of me
is based on merely human rules they have been taught.

We honor with our actions, words, and thoughts. True honor originates in the heart.

Matthew 10:40-42 // “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

 	Equals
 	Above Us
 	Civil Authority (Romans 13 )
Reward: A life free from fear

Romans 13:1 // Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

 	Family Authority (Ephesians 5-6)
Reward: You will live a long life

Ephesians 6:1-3 // Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

 	Social Authority - (1 Peter 2)
Reward: It represents God well and draws the favor of God.

1 Peter 2:13-14 // Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.

 	Spiritual Authority - 1 Timothy 5:17
 	Reward: Double honor

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 // Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
1 Timothy 5:17 // The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.

Worship is more than music—it's the posture of a surrendered heart and a transformed mind. Through Scripture and the story of the woman with the alabaster jar, Pastor Cody reminds us in this message that true worship draws us close to God, reshapes our thinking, and touches every part of our daily lives.

Romans 12:1 // Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice… this is your true and proper worship.

“Worship” comes from the Old English word weorþscipe — worth-ship — to acknowledge worth.
Worship is the posture of your heart

Romans 12:2 // Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

In v.1, Paul calls for total surrender — presenting your body as a living sacrifice. That’s the outward expression: worshiping God in your daily life.
In v.2, Paul gives the “how” — renewal of the mind. Transformation starts internally. Your thinking, perspective, and mindset fuel the worship lifestyle.

Luke 7:36-50 // A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. …..44 Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown….

What is the current posture of my heart toward God?
Is there anything I’m holding back from Him?
True worship draws you closer to the Father

Psalm 22:3 // God inhabits the praises of His people.

Worship creates space for God to move in.
Before starting His ministry. Luke 4:1-2, 14-15
Before making important decisions. Luke 6:12-13
After a long, hard day of work. Matthew 14:23
After ministering tol ots of people. Luke 5:15-16
After losing a close friend. Matthew 14:10-13
 	Intimacy cannot come without intentionality
Do I intentionally create space for God, or do I rush past Him?
Where has my relationship with God grown lukewarm instead of alive?
What would it look like for me to intentionally draw near again?
 	To worship you I live

Romans 12:1 // Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice… this is your true and proper worship.
Colossians 3:17 // Whatever you do… do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Mark 12:41-44 // Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

Ways we can live out our worship:

 	Your parenting
 	Your marriage
 	Your generosity
 	Your prayers
 	Your finances
 	Your rest
 	Your hobbies
 	Your serving
 	Your work
 	Your friendships
 	Your leadership
 	Your home
 	Your faithfulness
 	Your words
 	Your time
 	Your creativity
 	Your attitude
 	Your decisions
 	Your obedience
 	Your influence

Through the story of the ten lepers, we’re reminded that feeling thankful isn’t the same as expressing it and God notices a grateful heart. When we choose gratitude over busyness, caution, or self-focus, we see God’s gifts more clearly and turn our thankfulness into worship.

 	Feeling Thankful
 	Space
 	Not feeling something
Unexpressed gratitude is experienced as ingratitude
 	Expression not the emotion
Our hearts gravitate toward recognition and gratitude.

Luke 17:11-19 // Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

He went back to thank the one who enabled him to move forward.
 	The nine… where?
 	Too busy to be thankful.
 	Too cautious to be thankful.
 	Too self-centered to be thankful.
 	Too arrogant to be thankful.
They felt it. They didn’t express it.
 	God notices the grateful heart.
 	No more looking for weeds.
“You ought to be glad for the troubles on your job because they provide about half your income. If it were not for the things that go wrong, the difficult people with whom you deal, and the problems of your working day, someone could be found to handle your job for half of what you are being paid. So, start looking for more troubles. Learn to handle them cheerfully and with good judgment, as opportunities, rather than irritations and you will find yourself getting ahead at a surprising rate. For there are plenty of big jobs waiting for people who are not afraid of troubles.” - Robert Updegraff
 	Remember the gifts of God.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 // Always be joyful. Pray continually, and give thanks whatever happens. That is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus.

Sadness and gratitude refuse to share the same heart.
What you have in Christ is far great than anything you don’t have in life.
 	Gratitude to God is worship.

What does it mean to follow God’s design for margin and rest in a world that glorifies busyness? Through Scripture and the practice of Sabbath, Pastor Jason reminds us that rest isn’t a reward—it’s a command and a blessing meant to restore our hearts and renew our connection with God.

“Technology is opening a new world of leisure time. One government report projects that by the year 2000, the United States will have a 30-hour work week and month long vacations as the rule.” - Walter Cronkite
 	Margin
Margin is the space that exists between our LOAD and our LIMITS.

Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG) // “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

God’s plan for supernatural margin and rest is sabbath.
 	Sabbath means to cease.
If you work on the Sabbath, God’s just not going to help you.
 	Joy & Delight
 	Sabbath is a commandment.

Exodus 20:8-11 // “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

The Ten Commandments have consequences and blessings
 	Sabbath is a witness.

Exodus 31:14-17 (NIV) // “‘Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it is to be put to death; those who do any work on that day must be cut off from their people. 15 For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death. 16 The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. 17 It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’”

“If I can just catch my breath”
 	Sabbath is a blessing.

Mark 2:23-28 (NIV)
// Now it happened that He went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; and as they went His disciples began to pluck the heads of grain. 24 And the Pharisees said to Him, “Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” 25 But He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and those with him: 26 how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and also gave some to those who were with him?” 27 And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”

Sabbath is a blessing, not a burden.
 	Divert daily.
 	Withdraw weekly.
 	Abandon annually.

In this message, Pastor Jason unpacks the story of Esther to reveal how easily we can trade our God-given mission for a shadow mission—one centered on comfort, control, or personal success. Through Esther’s courage and calling, we’re reminded that God places us in specific moments, positions, and relationships for a purpose.

Mission - The purpose and direction of our lives.
Shadow Mission - Allowing our lives to center around something unworthy, dark, or selfish.
 	King Xerxes
 	Esther
 	Mordecai
 	Haman
 	Susa, Capital of Persia
 	470 BC
 	Israel is in Exile

Esther 1:1 NLT // These events happened in the days of King Xerxes, who reigned over 127 provinces stretching from India to Ethiopia.
Esther 1:22 NLT // He sent letters to all parts of the empire, to each province in its own script and language, proclaiming that every man should be the ruler of his own home and should say whatever he pleases.
Esther 2:1-5 NLT // But after Xerxes’ anger had subsided, he began thinking about Vashti and what she had done and the decree he had made. 2 So his personal attendants suggested, “Let us search the empire to find beautiful young virgins for the king. 3 Let the king appoint agents in each province to bring these beautiful young women into the royal harem at the fortress of Susa. Hegai, the king’s eunuch in charge of the harem, will see that they are all given beauty treatments. 4 After that, the young woman who most pleases the king will be made queen instead of Vashti.” This advice was very appealing to the king, so he put the plan into effect.
Esther 2:12 NIV // Before a young woman’s turn came to go in to King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribed for the women, six months with oil of myrrh and six with perfumes and cosmetics.
Esther 2:17 NLT // And the king loved Esther more than any of the other young women. He was so delighted with her that he set the royal crown on her head and declared her queen instead of Vashti. 18 To celebrate the occasion, he gave a great banquet in Esther’s honor for all his nobles and officials, declaring a public holiday for the provinces and giving generous gifts to everyone.
Esther 3:15 NIV // The couriers went out, spurred on by the king’s command, and the edict was issued in the citadel of Susa. The king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Susa was bewildered.
Esther 4:11-14 NIV // “All the king’s officials and the people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned the king has but one law: that they be put to death unless the king extends the gold scepter to them and spares their lives. But thirty days have passed since I was called to go to the king.” 12 When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, 13 he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

 	Career - advancing yourself
 	Calling - serving God
 	4 Key Questions:

Who plays the role of Mordecai in your life?
What is the position God has called you to?
 	What resources do you have?
What is the spiritual need you see?

It’s not your fault. It is your time.

Esther 4:15-16 NIV // Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: 16 “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”]]></itunes:summary>

 	Where does shame come from?

 	Our mistakes
 	Other people’s words or actions

Romans 8:28 //
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

God can step into the places we’d rather forget
Shame was never God’s design for us

Genesis 2:21-25 //
So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At last!” the man exclaimed.“This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’” This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.

 	Shame makes us hide

Genesis 3:6-8 //
The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. At that moment, their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.

That’s what shame still does today:

You can’t let them see that
You can’t let God see you like this
You can’t let people know what you’ve done

The enemy does his best work with the secret parts of our lives

Genesis 3:9-10 //
Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He replied, “I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.”

Because the first step toward healing is honesty

Psalm 32:3-5 //
When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night, your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.”And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.

Genesis 3:21 //
And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.

 	God covers what shame exposes

Hebrews 9:22 //
In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.

The shame we carry, Jesus has already paid for
God can turn your shame into a testimony
He doesn’t waste your shame; He redeems it.

Romans 8:28 //
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

 	You see this throughout Scripture:
Moses killed a man: God still used him to lead His people.
Peter denied Jesus: God still used him to build the church
Paul persecuted the church: God used Paul to preach the gospel
 	Stop hiding & start healing
 	Bring shame into the light
 	Let God rewrite the story

Shadows: The dark parts of our lives that follow us around.
“Your shadow is the accumulation of untamed emotions, less-than-pure motives and thoughts that, while largely unconscious, strongly influence and shape your behaviors. It is the damaged but mostly hidden version of who you are.” – Peter Scazzero
Doubt is a common characteristic of God’s children.
Just because we doubt doesn’t mean we’re out with God.
Why are young people leaving church? – Barna Survey
Churches are unfriendly to those who doubt

35% said Christians were too confident in their answers.
25% said the church demonizes everything outside of the church.
36% said they could not ask their most pressing questions.

Where does our doubt come from?

 	Questions you can’t answer
 	Situations that seem unfair
 	Hurts you can’t resolve

Your faith is a journey, not a destination.

Matthew 4:12
// When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.

Matthew 11:2-7, 11 // When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples 3 to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” 4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. 6 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.” 7 As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: 11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

When following Jesus isn’t what we expect, we start to doubt.
 	“Are you the one?”

Matthew 11:5 // The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.

Isaiah 35:5-6
// Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
6 Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy.
Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.

Isaiah 61:1
// The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners

Doubt Is Not the Opposite of Faith
Faith isn’t the absence of questions; it’s the decision to trust in the middle of them.
Bring Your Doubts to Jesus, Not Away from Him\
 	“How long, O Lord?”
 	Remember What You’ve Already Seen
Don’t Let What You Don’t Understand Cancel What You Do Know

Matthew 11:4
// Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see:

Romans 10:17
// Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

The strongest faith isn’t a faith that never doubts.
The strongest faith is a faith that grows through your doubts.
Our faith is based on the person and work of Jesus.

 	Pride = Self over God.
Pride is dangerously destructive and difficult to detect. – Craig Groeschel

Micah 6:8 // He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Humility says – I want grace more than I want to be right

John 8:12 // When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

Pride blocks the light of Jesus in our lives because it moves our focus to SELF.

2 Chronicles 26:3-5 NIV // Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother’s name was Jekoliah; she was from Jerusalem. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Amaziah had done. He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success.
2 Chronicles 26:16 NIV // But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God…

 	Pride distorts our vision

2 Chronicles 26:21 NIV // King Uzziah had leprosy until the day he died. He lived in a separate house—leprous, and banned from the temple of the Lord. Jotham his son had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land.
Proverbs 16:18 // Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 8:13 // To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech

Get Honest about areas of pride
 	Listen to Others

2 Chronicles 26:5 // He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success.

 	Humility

James 4:6 // But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

 	Humility = God over self
Pride says I can, humility says God can
 	Remember

Hosea 13:6 NIV // When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.
James 4:10 NIV // Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less often.

 	The sermon on the mount
In Scripture, the heart refers to the core of a person's being
The source of decision-making (how you choose and act)
The center of intention (what motivates you)
The seat of affection (what you love and value)

Matthew 6:21 // For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Malachi 3:10-12 (NIV) // Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.
Acts 20:35 // It’s more blessed to give than to receive
2 Corinthians 9:6 // If you give bountifully, you shall receive bountifully
2 Corinthians 9:10 // God gives seed to the sower
Luke 6:38 // When you give it shall be given back to you
Matthew 6:21 // Where your treasure is, that’s where your heart is also

4 things I believe God wants us to know today

Money is not the root to all evil. It is the “love of money” that is the root to all evil.
There is no such thing as tithing your time.
Tithing is not an Old Testament principle; it’s a believer’s principle

Matthew 23:23 // "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.

 	Tithing has tremendous benefits

How to become a consistent tither (where do you start)?
 	Put this in your heart
Put God at the top of your budget
 	Take a stand

The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12 When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” 15 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” 16 The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.” 17 Gideon replied, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me. 18 Please do not go away until I come back and bring my offering and set it before you.”
Judges 6:21-23 // Then the angel of the Lord touched the meat and the unleavened bread with the tip of the staff that was in his hand. Fire flared from the rock, consuming the meat and the bread. And the angel of the Lord disappeared. 22 When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, he exclaimed, “Alas, Sovereign Lord! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!” 23 But the Lord said to him, “Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.”
Judges 6:36-40 // Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised— 37 look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.” 38 And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water. 39 Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.” 40 That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew.
Judges 7:2-4, 7 // The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’ 3 Now announce to the army, ‘Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.’” So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained. 4 But the Lord said to Gideon, “There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will thin them out for you there. 7 The Lord said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the others go home.”

Fear of Failure: What will happen if I try?
“I’ve lived through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.” - Mark Twain
Fear of Insignificance: What won’t happen if I don’t try?

Joshua 1:5-9 // No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. 7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

 	Be Strong and Courageous
Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. - William Shakespeare
 	Greatness vs Fame
 	Discouraged

Acts 4:29 // Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.
Acts 1:8 // But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

 	Courage > Integrity > Humility
 	Courage is rooted in humility.

Numbers 12:3 // Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.
Deuteronomy 34:9 // Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses.
Philippians 1:20-21 // I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Courage is not the absence of fear. It is the absence of self.
 	A million little yeses.
If God answered all of your prayers, would it change the world or just change you?
